• Throttling an AMQP Consumer Using RabbitMQ

  I'm using AMQP in a reliability pattern and my use-case is to put messages in a queue, then consume them and insert the information into a web service. My web service is slow, and my queue can have many, many messages and I would like to ensure that the consumer doesn't kill my database. Is there a build-in way to perform throttling in RabbitMQ, either time-based(only X messages per minute/second/hour) or some other mechanism?

I'm using VB.NET for a web-application that starts some process using CreateObject, like this: Dim AVObject = CreateObject("avwin.application") After all is done everything get closed down en stopped using the proper release functions, however, for some reason the process remains. Is there some way in which I can get the process id of the started process, in order to explicitly kill it just before termination? Thanks

• microsoft visual studio 2008 builds keep failing

  My builds keep failing with the following error Project : error PRJ0002 : Error result 31 returned from 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\bin\mt.exe'. I find that i have to kill some process called mspdbsrv.exe description:"microsoft program database" Then rebuild the entire project. This is annoying. Is there a permanent solution to this problem or is it stuck with me for good? PS OS: windows 7 ultimate msv studio 2008 + sp1 professional

• Backgroundworker abort

  Hi, I recently tried to use backgroundworker instead of "classic" threads and I'm realizing that it's causing, at least for me, more problems than solutions. I have a backgroundworker running a synchronous read (in this case from serialPort) and getting blocked around 30 seconds in 1 code line, then cancellationpending isn't the solution. I'm seeing that if the application gets closed at this point (either with the cross button and Application.Exit()) the process keeps zombie forever. I need a way to force abort or to kill the backgroundworker thread.

• DBMS debugger causes TOAD to hang

  I can start the dbms debugger in Toad and use it normally but if I hit the 'halt execution' button or just hit the 'Run' button to reach the end of the function it causes TOAD to hang. Windows reports it as not responding and I have to kill it through the task manager. I have had this problem in Toad 9.7.2.5 and Toad 10 on two different laptops. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If you have did you find a solution to this?

  Hi, I got this error just one time (non-repeatable) while running my Objective-C & C++ program with the Xcode debugger: Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. Xcode could not locate source file: sweep.c (line: 1026) kill quit I don't have any references to any "sweep.c" in my code, so I'm thinking maybe it's a Xcode/GDB error. Anything I can do to further investigate this? Am using standard Xcode 3.2.2 (uses GNU gdb 6.3.50-20050815 (Apple version gdb-1460)) on OS X 10.6.3

• Hive NR map progress inconsistent and regurlarly restart from 0%

  I have a Yarn MR (with two ec2 instances to mapreduce) job on a dataset of approximately a thousand avro records, and the map phase is behaving erratically. See the progress below. • Is redis a durable datastore?

  By "durable" I mean, the server can crash at any time, and as long as the disk remains in tact, no data is lost (see ACID). Seems like that's what journaling mode is for, but if you enable journaling, doesn't that defeat the purpose of operating on in-memory data? Read operations might not be affected by journaling, but it seems like journaling would kill your write performance.

  I need to implement a view where I need the user to answer several questions using YES or NO. I thought of using a UISwitch but as far as I see it does not allows replacing the ON/OFF messages it shows with YES/NO. Am I wrong? I thought of implementing a segmented control with 2 buttons but this is like using a cannon to kill a fly... Any suggestions on how to do that? thanks

• why is my emacs yanking the wrong text?

  running emacs 22... on ubuntu 9.04, fresh install. When I copy a region of text via C-w (clipboard-kill-ring-save) then yank it back with C-y (clipboard-yank) it pastes random stuff, from some other buffer that isn't even open. It was working fine earlier today and I haven't changed my emacs config. Any ideas why this is suddenly happening/ how to fix it? Thanks!

• Rails: Passing new child object placeholder (build) to parent view

  I've got 2 classes of objects... Magician has_many Rabbits and Rabbit belongs_to Magician. When viewing a Magician (show.html) I'd like to list all the associated Rabbits and then have some blank fields with a submit button to add a new Rabbit. To do so I build a new rabbit (associated to the current magician) in the Magician's show method (below). Edit2: found way to make it work but not sure if it's the "Rails way"? see comments inline (below): If I build the rabbit in Magician's show method then when show is rendered an empty (and invalid) rabbit ends the list before the new rabbit form fields are then shown. If I build it in the view itself then everything works & renders correctly.   We have a .Net application that runs as a shell for certain users. We'd like the application to automatically restart when it crashes. The application is set as the shell here: HKEY_USERS*User*\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\WinLogon\Shell I've tried adding an "AutoRestartShell" key with a value of "1", like what exists in: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\WinLogon. When I kill the application's process for the user (via RDP) the application exits, but never restarts. Ideas?

  I have 2 forms Form1 and Form2, when program executes I want both forms to display but Form2 with ShowDialog(); i.e user has to respond to Form2 before using Form1. How can I achieve this? Form2 will take userinput and will display on Form1, so do I have to hide Form2 after user responds to Form2 or just kill it.

So, I set up a port on a remote machine to forward to my local machine, so that Facebook can hit the web server, and have the requests forwarded to my local machine.   When using SQL Server Express 2005's User Instance feature with a connection string like this: <add name="Default" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress; AttachDbFilename=C:\My App\Data\MyApp.mdf; Initial Catalog=MyApp; User Instance=True; MultipleActiveResultSets=true; Trusted_Connection=Yes;" /> We find that we can't copy the database files MyApp.mdf and MyApp_Log.ldf (because they're locked) even after stopping the SqlExpress service, and have to resort to setting the SqlExpress service from automatic to manual startup mode, and then restarting the machine, before we can then copy the files. It was my understanding that stopping the SqlExpress service should stop all the user instances as well, which should release the locks on those files. But this does not seem to be the case - could anyone shed some light on how to stop a user instance, such that it's database files are no longer locked? Update OK, I stopped being lazy and fired up Process Explorer. Lock was held by sqlserver.exe - but there are two instances of sql server: sqlserver.exe PID: 4680 User Name: DefaultAppPool sqlserver.exe PID: 4644 User Name: NETWORK SERVICE The file is open by the sqlserver.exe instance with the PID: 4680 Stopping the "SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)" service, killed off the process with PID: 4644, but left PID: 4680 alone. Seeing as the owner of the remaining process was DefaultAppPool, next thing I tried was stopping IIS (this database is being used from an ASP.Net application). Unfortunately this didn't kill the process off either. Manually killing off the remaining sql server process does remove the open file handle on the database files, allowing them to be copied/moved. Unfortunately I wish to copy/restore those files in some pre/post install tasks of a WiX installer - as such I was hoping there might be a way to achieve this by stopping a windows service, rather then having to shell out to kill all instances of sqlserver.exe as that poses some problems: Killing all the sqlserver.exe instances may have undesirable consequencies for users with other Sql Server instances on their machines. I can't restart those instances easily. Introduces additional complexities into the installer. Does anyone have any further thoughts on how to shutdown instances of sql server associated with a specific user instance?
