  • From .psd to working HTML and CSS - help me suck less

    I am not much of a designer. My strength lies in coding. That said, I'm often forced into the role of "The Man," responsible for all aspects of site creation. So, that said I'm wondering if the pros can give me tips/solutions/links to tutorials to my main questions. Resolution. What should I aim for? What are the lower and upper edges I should be aware of? I know that systems like 960 Grid were popular recently. Is that the number I should still aim for? Slicing up a .psd - are there any tricks I should know? I've always found it difficult to get my slices pixel perfect. I'm also really slow at it. I must be looking at it wrong, or missing something fundamental. The same goes for text. Layouts are always filled with the classic "Lorem...", but I can never seem to get real content to fit quite as well on the screen. The advanced (to me, anyway) looking things, like a part of a logo/image overlaying what looks like a content area. How does one do that? How do layouts change/are informed by the decision to go fixed or liquid? Again, any tips/tricks/suggestions/tutorials you can share would be greatly appreciated.

I tried putting the exact same code of the control template in a user control say "ErrorUC" and using it as below TextBox1.SetResourceReference (System.Windows.Controls.Validation.ErrorTemplateProperty, new ErrorUC()); On running the above code i learnt that "AdornedElementPlaceholder" can be used only in templates and not in user controls.   • Re-add missing project without having to re-add it to all projects referencing it

    Lets say you open a .NET solution (mine being VS 2010) after you just moved your entire folder to some new location locally. Now one of the projects that was being referenced in that solution is not there and so when you launch VS, it naturally tells you that the project is missing and therefore as always you see the project greyed out in Solution Explorer. Ok, well I can't go re-add that project (specify a different path for where that project lives) unless I remove the missing project reference and then try to re-add it back to the solution. But how can I reassociate a project without losing all references in other projects that were referencing that missing project? Is this possible? Otherwise every time I re-add that missing project, I end up having to go through about 8 projects of mine that are referencing it and re-reference it for each one of those projects which is tedious. I guess it makes sense since each project was referencing that missing project at that old path so it would break it there as well but is there an easier way to re-associate a project and references to that missing project without having to take 10 minutes every time to re-associate it all over the place if simply the path has changed?

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The TrustedInstaller service is failing to start with an error about a file missing, and sure enough C:\Windows\servicing\TrustedInstaller.exe is missing. What is the easiest way to restore this file? I can't run SFC from within Windows, because that results in the error "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"... which happens if the trusted installer service is not running.

Below is a screecapture of a wikipage in the edit mode, where the standard WYSIWYG controls (expected to be present just above the text input in the left corner) are missing. In an attempt to solve the issue, TracWysiwygPlugin was installed, but this has not changed the situation. What could be the reason for missing WYSIWYG controls and how could it be fixed?

If I reinstall windows, then I will lost all software program install on that windows XP. I don't want to reinstall all software program after windows installation.     Attention advanced Freemarker gurus: I want to use a single freemarker template to be able to output tables of arbitrary pojos, with the columns to display defined separately than the data. The problem is that I can't figure out how to get a handle to a function on a pojo at runtime, and then have freemarker invoke that function (lambda style). From skimming the docs it seems that Freemarker supports functional programming, but I can't seem to forumulate the proper incantation. I whipped up a simplistic concrete example. I am looking for a way to get a handle to a function and have freemarker invoke it, or perhaps some kind of "evaluate" feature that can take an arbitrary expression as a string and evaluate it at runtime.

    Do you have experience with a Javascript templating engine, one that is stable, easy to use and has good performance? I need to do apply the same template many times for different data. I prefer to download the template itself once (and have it cached) rather than processing the template on the server. Also, this way the template itself would be a static resource more easily cached in the server side too.
