  • Mac OS X Lion no longer recognizes environment.plist?

    Just installed Lion today and my PATH env variable is no longer being set by ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist. Did something change? Can't seem to find any info on that or how to fix. Any ideas?   • WPF WebBrowser - How to Zoom Content?

    Trying to test basic browser concepts in a WPF (C#/XAML, .NET 4.0) WebBrowser application. So far, the only problem is programatically zooming. Has anyone had any experience with this? MSDN lists nothing: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.controls.webbrowser.aspx Additionally, I have tried various things such as RenderTransform options to no avail.     I want to have a web page that contains 3 parts: A header at the top of the page , a footer (both of which having specific height in px)and the main part of the page which should be a div or table cell with the appropriate height attribute in order to take all the available space between them. I want the page to take 100% of the browser window height, trying to avoid scrollbars. The problems I have are the following: USING DIVs a) If I set the maindiv height to 100%, the page overflows and I get a vertical scrolbar.   • Any way to avoid a filesort when order by is different to where clause?

    I have an incredibly simple query (table type InnoDb) and EXPLAIN says that MySQL must do an extra pass to find out how to retrieve the rows in sorted order. SELECT * FROM `comments` WHERE (commentable_id = 1976) ORDER BY created_at desc LIMIT 0, 5 exact explain output: table select_type type extra possible_keys key key length ref rows comments simple ref using where; using filesort common_lookups common_lookups 5 const 89 commentable_id is indexed. Comments has nothing trick in it, just a content field. The manual suggests that if the order by is different to the where, there is no way filesort can be avoided. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/order-by-optimization.html I also tried order by id as well as it's equivalent but makes no difference, even if I add id as an index (which I understand is not required as id is indexed implicitly in MySQL). thanks in advance for any ideas!

We're running PHP5 on the server and we try to find a good way for managing errors and status reports that arises from the usage of our functions. While using return in functions, the execution is ended, so nothing more can be sent back. Right? What's the best practice to send a status information or error code upon ending execution of actual function?   • How can I detect when the .NET Framework feature is "turned off" in Windows 7 / Vista?

    My application requires the .NET Framework version 3.5. I recently ran into a customer that had the .NET Framework installed but turned off on Windows Vista (also applies to Windows 7). In this case, my installer (InstallShield 2009) does not prompt the user to install the Framework (because it is already installed) and when my application runs it crashes immediately. I tried another .NET application and it also crashes immediately. Is there any way to detect this situation and handle it more gracefully? Just detecting this during install is not ideal since the .NET Framework can be turned off at any time. Ideally, the application would be able to check and display a friendly message to the user telling them they need to turn on the .NET Framework. EDIT: "Turning off" the .NET Framework in Windows Vista or Windows 7 is not the same as uninstalling it.     Hello, Many Zw* functions that work with files (such as ZwCreateFile) need to be called at PASSIVE_LEVEL with APCs enabled: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff566424%28VS.85%29.aspx. This is because, internally, I/O operations are asynchronously and the completion of an operation is delivered through an APC (correct me if I'm wrong). However, the documentation for similar functions from a mini-filter (such as FltCreateFile, FltReadFile, etc) does not specify that APCs should be enabled. Is it safe to call FltCreateFile/FltReadFile with APCs disabled? Thanks!

  • Why do Java and C# not have implicit conversions to boolean?

    Since I started Java it's been very aggravating for me that it doesn't support implicit conversions from numeric types to booleans, so you can't do things like: if (flags & 0x80) { ... } instead you have to go through this lunacy: if ((flags & 0x80) != 0) { ... } It's the same with null and objects. Every other C-like language I know including JavaScript allows it, so I thought Java was just moronic, but I've just discovered that C# is the same (at least for numbers, don't know about null/objects): http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/c8f5xwh7(VS.71).aspx Microsoft changed it on purpose from C++, so why? Clearly I'm missing something. Why change (what I thought was) the most natural thing in the world to make it longer to type? What on Earth is wrong with it?

    Hello I am trying to insert a value in a one IDENTITY column Table in SQL Server CE 3.5. I Tried the following: INSERT Target DEFAULT VALUES INSERT Target (ID) VALUES (DEFAULT) INSERT Target (ID) VALUES () But none of them worked. This is the SQL command I used to create the table (Using SQL Server Management Studio): CREATE TABLE Target( ID int NOT NULL IDENTITY (1, 1) PRIMARY KEY ); Microsoft help site (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174633%28SQL.90%29.aspx) mentions that DEFAULT values are not valid for identity columns however they do not mention any alternative. They mention something about uniqueidentifier and ROWGUID but I have not been able to make it work. I would appreciate any pointers on how to solve this problem or links to documentation about valid sql commands for sql server CE. Thank you

    I'm currently trying to build a RDP client in python and I came across the following issue with a len check; From: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc240836%28v=prot.10%29.aspx "81 2a - ConnectData::connectPDU length = 298 bytes Since the most significant bit of the first byte (0x81) is set to 1 and the following bit is set to 0, the length is given by the low six bits of the first byte and the second byte. Hence, the value is 0x12a, which is 298 bytes." This sounds weird. For normal len checks, I'm simply using : struct.pack("h",len(str(PacketLen))) but in this case, I really don't see how I can calculate the len as described above. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated !

    I was always sure (don't know why) that it's better to add annotations to variables, but while browsing the Hibernate doc http://docs.jboss.org/hibernate/stable/annotations/reference/en/html_single/#entity-hibspec-collection I noticed they tend to annotate the methods. So should I put my annotations before methods, like this: @Entity public class Flight implements Serializable { private long id; @Id @GeneratedValue public long getId() { return id; } public void setId(long id) { this.id = id; } } Or is it better to do it like this: @Entity public class Flight implements Serializable { @Id @GeneratedValue private long id; public long getId() { return id; } public void setId(long id) { this.id = id; } } Or maybe there's no difference?

  • CEF and the localized strings in *.pak files

    I develop an application that uses the chromium embedded framework's control. I write in C++. I would like to use CEF mechanizm to localize an application if it exists. Can i embed the application's customized strings into CEF .pak files (en-US.pak and so on) so that i can retrieve these locolized strings in run-time? If so how can i embed them and how can i retrieve a given embedded string in my application code? If .pak files is not a case then is there other ability to localize an application through CEF? Could you please share any idea? Thanks

  • How can I avoid causing memory leaks in Firefox?

    It seems that there is a lot of information on memory leaks in IE and how web developers can avoid them, but I can't find much on avoiding leaks in FF. I've found lots of random tips on how end users can tweak their preferences, or tips for extension developers, but little on what I can do as a web developer to make sure my pages don't leak. Am I missing something? It seems lazy to just blame it on the user and say "you've got too many extensions". Or are the major patterns the same as in IE -- circular references and all that? Also, if anyone knows of any tools to troubleshoot leaks in FF, that would be great.     I'm implementing an installer in Java, that is supposed to download and install an application for non-privileged users in Windows (from XP and up). The application is written in C++, and depend on the usual VC runtime-libraries (msvcm90.dll and friends). In order to save bandwidth, I want to avoid downloading the VC redistributables if they already are available for the user. I do however have a problem finding a reliable method to detect if an assembly is installed. If the assembly is missing, I will deploy it as described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms235291%28VS.80%29.aspx So the question is simply how to detect if a (any) assembly is installed on the machine. It's no requirement that this can be done from Java. I can easily write a small probe in C++ and link it statically for the task. jgaa

    I am learning how to encrypt the ConnectionString for our C# (3.5) Application. I read the .Net Framwork Developer Guide (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/89211k9b(VS.80).aspx) about securing connection string. but not fully understand the contents. It says "The connection string can only be decrypted on the computer on which it was encrypted." We have a release machine which will build our application which will generate the OurApp.exe.config and then install it to many product machines. Is that meam we have to have this encryption process separated with our application and run it at individual product machine? We may use the "RSAProtectedConfigurationProvider". It mentioned we need encryption key for that provider. when and how we should provide the encryption key? thanks,

    Hi, I am trying to put operations inside the locales to adapt to different languages. For example, in English a billion is 1,000,000,000, however in Spanish a billion is 1,000,000,000,000 so I would like to be able to have the following: en: billion: "You have %{money} billions" es: billion: "Tienes %{money/1000.0} billones" In order to be able to write: I18n.t :billion, :money => whatever And be right for whatever language. However, it seems that I cannot put operations inside the locales' strings. Any hint on how should I be doing this? Maybe my approach is just wrong "philosophically" talking? Thanks all!

  • How do I download an attachment from an annotation using client-side JScript?

    I'm trying to provide a link to the attachment of a note through the client-side JScript. The standard MS-made Notes component does this through the following url: [serverurl]/[appname]/Activities/Attachment/download.aspx?AttachmentType=5&AttachmentId={blahblahblah}&IsNotesTabAttachment=1&CRMWRPCToken=blahblahblah&CRMWRPCTokenTimeStamp=blahblahblah The problem is that I don't know how to get the Token or TokenTimeStamp, so I'm receiving an Access Denied error ("form is no longer available, security precaution, etc"). The only other way I can think of doing this is through the OData endpoint, but that would at best get me a base64 string that I still would have translate into a filestream to give to the browser (all of which seems like it would take forever to implement/figure out).
