  • XAMPP - Apache service stops running after few seconds.

    Hello I have this big problem with my Xampp server, for some reason the Apache service stops running after a few seconds it as been started, and i have no idea what the problem is, and the error logs don't say much about the problem.     I'm trying to get a vsftpd server set up on CentOS 5.3 x64. I'm not able to get any local user login's to work.   • Weird fluctuating time on a XEN linux guest

    I have a weird problem with some servers here at work. We have a few XEN guests who's current time fluctuates. # date;date;date;date;date;date;date Thu Feb 25 16:00:40 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:48 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:40 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:48 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:40 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:48 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:40 PHT 2010 As seen above, the time fluctuates between 16:00:48 and 16:00:40, which is problematic for us since computing for time differences in some of our scripts becomes inaccurate (ex. what should be a few ms differences becomes some few second differences, and even sometimes, negative differences). The problematic servers are linux guests on a XEN host. The time fluctuates on the guest systems, but it is okay in the host itself. I've ruled out ntpd since this happens irregardless of whether ntpd is running or not on the guest systems. Guest is on full virtualisation. The time on both the host and the guest does match except that the time in the guest fluctuates at about a few seconds from the host's time, and the host time does not fluctuate. /proc/sys/xen/independent_wallclock is 0 in the host and does not exist in the guest. Ntpd service was stopped and disabled. Setting independent_wallclock to 1 in the host has no effect (that is, time still fluctuates in the guest). Though I was not able to restart the guest as it is a production server. Might be able to do that over the weekend. Any ideas on what to check and how to resolve this problem?

    I'm just starting a trial of ForeFront TMG to use as a proxy server. I know I can get a real time activity monitor and filter on a per user basis, but would like to be able to get a real time activity monitor of all users that I can then sort by bandwidth consumed (enabling me to get a view on who the bandwidth hogs are). Does anyone know if this is possible in Forefront TMG or if a third party product is required? Thanks. JR

    I have the following problem: - I have a mails that are arriving in my mailbox - these mails contain a specific string in the body - what I want to do is: -- removing this string from the body -- then send this body to another mail adres (send, not forward) What have I already done: A. created a rule that activates the script in incoming messages that contain a certain string in the description This is the rule description: Apply to message with "Maileater" in the subject and on this computer only run "Project1.ChangeString" B. created the script with the following instructions: Public Sub ChangeString(MyMail As MailItem) Dim body As String body = MyMail.body body = Replace (body, "=====================================================", " ") MyMail.body = body MyMail.Save End Sub C. now I want to add in the script the instruction to send the body (or MyMail.body) to a specific mail adres (e.g. [email protected] with description "Support asked") after the replace of the string. is this possible? Can someone help me with this, I would be very greatfull because this will eliminate me from a lot of manual work. remark: this is just an exemple of a mail, the real thing will contain other replacements and mails to send

  • What's the compelling reason to upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 from VS2008?

    Are there new features in Visual Studio 2010 that are must-haves? If so, which ones? For me, the big draws for VS2008 as compared to VS2005 were LINQ, .NET Framework multitargeting, WCF (REST + Syndication), and general devenv.exe reliability. Granted, some of these features are framework things, and not tool things. For the purposes of this discussion, I'm willing to combine them into one bucket. What is the list of must-have features for VS2010 versus VS2008? Are there any? I am particularly interested in C#. Update: I know how to google, so I can get the official list from Microsoft. I guess what I really wanted was, the assessment from people using it, as to which things are really notable. Microsoft went on for 3 pages about 2008/3.5 features, and many people sort of boiled it down to LINQ, and a few other things. What is that short list for VS2010? Summary so far, what people think is cool or compelling: Visual Studio engine multi-monitor support new extensibility model based on WPF, prettier and more usable new TFS stuff, incl automated test tools parallel debugging .NET Framework parallel extensions for .NET C# 4.0 generic variance optional and named params easier interop with non-managed environments, like COM or Javascript VB 10.0 collection and array literals / initializers automatic properties anonymous methods / statement lambdas I read up on these at Zander's blog. He described these and other features.     My current Sony laptop has RAID 0 (don't worry I back it up 100% every day). I have 2 × 320gb drives giving me 640gb. I want my next laptop to be RAID but with SSD + 500GB drive Unfortunately Sony's current line seems to have abandoned two disk configuations and I really don't want to go to a slower system than I have now. Anybody know if Sony has any RAID laptops (16" or larger) in the pipeline - or do I have to switch to DELL or something else

  • When to choose "Generate an activator..." when creating a new Eclipse plugin project

    There are lots of Eclipse RCP tutorials that begin with "Create a new plugin project..." It seems that approx. 70% of them specify checking the Generate an activator, a Java class that controls the plug-in life cycle. The others specifically say don't check that toggle. Its not clear to me, what generating an activator class does for you, when you need one, and when you don't. For being a prominent option you get every time you create a new plugin project (it seems to be set on by default) this option isn't very well explained anywhere that I have found. Any advice/rules of thumb on choosing this option when creating Eclipse plugin projects?

Exchange is installed in a safe LAN, there is a Linux relay in DMZ that feeds messages to Exchanges and gets from it the messaged to be delivered on the Net (smart relay). The mail traffic is about 2000 Internet messages/day and probably another 2000 msg/day sent by local users within the organization. The servers hosts 200 users.

    omg... hope someone can help me because I am so lost as to what to try next.... I don't know what is causing the error to happen, and I don't see how to figure it out... Keep going between the pgloader.conf examples and what I have, and I don't understand why I keep getting the 'connection already closed' error? The first few lines of my fr.conf is at the very end... I'd really appreciate / love some guidance here... Been trying to get this thing going all morning, and am even getting stuck just on this part...   • Is it a good practice to run identd in 2010?

    I know in the "old days" it was good practice to shut this off. But nowadays I have heard that it improves deliverability of email. In the old days people were not worried about spam (or having their outbound email rejected), so that made sense. Of course, the question is only relevant to servers that send email. What is the current, common practice among discerning Linux admins? Run identd or leave it off? Thanks
