• Granting rights to the sa account using osql

  I'm installing sql instances through script, and after creating a certain instance, I cannot get the sa account to be enabled through osql. What I've tried osql -S .\INSTANCENAME -E use master ALTER LOGIN sa ENABLE GO Using SSMS to enable the account (by logging in using Windows Auth., 'New query', and exactly the same query as in 1.) Suggestions in this issue No. 2. is actually working; and the account is enabled instantly. No 1 is not working, not even with the suggestions provided in 3., I have restarted the SQL services after executing the commands in osql. Additional info Windows 2003 Server, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise, No password policies apply to the account.

• Is there a way to unit test an async method?

  I am using Xunit and NMock on .NET platform. I am testing a presentation model where a method is asynchronous. The method creates an async task and executes it so the method returns immediately and the state I need to check aren't ready yet. I can set a flag upon finish without modifying the SUT but that would mean I would have to keep checking the flag in a while loop for example, with perhaps timeout. What are my options?

• Which version of Windows Server 2008?

  One of the projects I'm working on is looking like we're going to need to migrate from CentOS 5.4 over to something else (we need to run Postgresql 8.3+, and CentOS/RHEL only support 8.1), and one of the options will be Windows Server. Since 2008 R2 is out that's what I'm looking at. I'll need to run Postgres and Tomcat and don't really require anything that Windows has like IIS (if I can run Server Core, even better!). The other kicker is it will be virtualized through VMWare ESXI 4.0 so that we have three separate boxes: development, Quality, and Production servers. From a licensing standpoint though, and I good enough with just the Web Server edition? Am I right in assuming that will be three licenses? Or should I just jump up to Enterprise so that I get 4 VM licenses?

• DNS responding only to nslookup in Windows 7

  Hello. I have an interesting DNS issue in AD (2008R2) which I can't find a way to debug. Mainly if from commandline I try ping <machinename> then I get the reply that the hostr isn't found. But when I do nslookup <machinename> I get the correct response from my DNS with proper AAAA and A records. Anyone has an idea what could cause this? The client machines run Windows 7 Enterprise.

• Any other kinds of "Task Queue" APIs ?

  I'm curious if it's common practice outside of the GAE platform to be able to defer tasks to background workers via webhooks. I find it particularly useful to speed up the front-end of webapps, by delegating any long process to background tasks. I'd like to hear about open source software allowing to implement a TaskQueue-like API, with webhooks preferably, if anyone has some experience in this area. Thanks!

• Why is windows 7 marking all my extra RAM as "hardware reserved"?

  I have a new HP Z800 Workstation, running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. The machine has 4GB of RAM -- windows reported 1.99GB available, 2GB was "hardware reserved". I added another 2 GB and windows reports that there is 6GB of physical RAM, but now 4GB is "hardware reserved". The BIOS sees the full RAM amount as well. The video card is an nVida Quadro FX 580, so it shouldn't be using any shared memory at all. whats going on? Z800 Specs are here.

• Speed up login to StarTeam?

  I'm working on a program that accesses StarTeam using the StarTeam SDK for .NET. And I've noticed that it takes about 10 seconds to login to the StarTeam server. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to speed that up. Edit I used this command to run the StarTeam Cross Platform client with debugging output: stjava.exe StarTeamCP.stjava -- -netmon It appears that the delay happens when it send the command SRVR_CMD_GET_USER_PERSONAL_INFO. So I don't think there's anything I can do to speed it up.

• Adding a single 300Gb SCSI drive to poweredge 2850

  I have a 2850 setup with 3 146Gb drives, two partitions 1 12GB system with server 2003 sp2 and 1 261Gb Data. I am strapped on disk space on the data partition having to push data around. I wanted to add a 300Gb single drive for lesser critical data, is this possible? Or is it best to add 2 300Gb drives for another RAID 1 configuration? This is my church network and while it is mission critical it is not enterprise so I can take it down for a few hours. Any pointers to documentation or direct help would be greatly appreciated. John

• Missing AVFoundation.framework

  Hi, AVFoundation.framework is not where the documentation says it should be. I have iPhone SDK 2.2 installed (never had previous sdk versions installed) and I can't find that folder under /System/Library/Frameworks I did find it under /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS2.2.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/ folder but if I add it from that location, then the compiler can't find the header files. I tried copying the entire AVFoundation.framework folder to /System/Library/Framework, but it still can't find the header files. How can I use AVFoundation classes? Thanks, Alex

• IntellIJ editor doesn't appear

  I updated my IntellIJ install to the latest version (11.1.4) and now the Editor window doesn't appear. Double-clicking on the file, jump-to-source, nothing happens. No error message, it just doesn't appear. If I double-click on an xml layout file the preview window works, but no Editor window. Have installed and reinstalled; went back to an earlier version and it doesn't work there either. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Update: Editor works if I create a new project. • Why does a group policy not applied to the domain administrator account?

  I have a working policy on my entire domain. I just found out, when logging with the domain administrator, that this policy is not applied (EDIT: Running : gpresult shows that the GPO's are applied - but, this GPO is for Drive Mappings, and the actual drive mappings are NOT shown) The administrator account - does not have any login script on his profile tab. My GPO's are mainly small/atomic settings: single GPO to handle each settings: UAC, Firewall, printers. GPO status for the object is enabled That's an overview of the Drive Maps: Reading on MS support site, I checked the delegation tab, and it is marked as applied to domain and enterprise admins. Every user gets these policies correctly. The OU that is set is the root of the domain. (for testing purpose - I did that to eliminate hierarchy issues - did not help) Block Inheritance is disabled.   Version: Eclipse 4.2 Codename: Juno I don't see a fast view bar in eclipse 4.2. I can't rightclick on a view and enable fast view. The fast view options under General - Perspectives does nothing. Was the fast view feature removed or am I missing something?   We will be implementing a public-facing website in SharePoint 2010 and I have a few questions regarding licensing: Is there any (relatively) reliable pricing information available for SharePoint 2010? What about rumors? What edition of SharePoint 2010 would be appropriate for a publicly facing website (in 2007, you needed Enterprise for this, but it seems that WCM functionality is included in Standard in 2010)? What would be a reasonable number to budget for SharePoint 2010 licensing for a publicly facing website? Note: I have tried asking Microsoft directly. Unless you are a volume license customer, they direct you to a reseller (like CDW). Unfortunately, none of the resellers have the pricing for 2010 yet. The sku isn't even in their system. I was able to get in touch with the Microsoft Pre-Sales team and they confirmed that the price list will for 2010 will be published on May 3rd (or thereabouts), but they weren't able to give me a price. • Oracle 11g network configuration

  I installed Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition on my Windows 7 Pro. My problem is that I cannot log into database from other host (local network). When I connect to database using Oracle SQLdeveloper everything is ok as long as I specify 'localhost' in connection configuration. However, when I change it to '192.168.0.190' which is my host IP address I get 'The Network Adapter could not establish the connection'. I get the same error when logging in from other host in local network. What is the problem?

One requirement was that is should be less than 20 bytes in compiled form. the winner would be the one whose version is the smallest...
