  • JQuery: Push Effect?

    I'm currently using the JQuery slideDown/slideUp effect and am not accomplishing what I want. Essentially, I want to create an action where I "push" a div off the top of the browser window. Something similar to the following push effect example. How can I do this with JQuery? The problem with just using slideDown/slideUp is that the other DIV just overlaps the div I'm hiding. But instead, I want to PUSH the div I don't want visible off the top of the browser window.

  • iPhone OS: implementing your own achievements, how do I do it?

    I'm working on a game where really the only game part is (at least right now) that the user can unlock achievements as she does various things throughout the game. I have a database that can keep track of certain user actions and record how many times a user does something but I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to architect the app so that I have to do the least amount of work. Kind of suck with the timing because gamecenter is not ready and it seems like openfeint is changing gears, but maybe I'm wrong. I'd prefer to do everything "in house" if it is not too ridiculous. looking for suggestions. Thanks, Nick

  • CSS Vertical Spacing Issue (Margin?) - Vertical Space Between Two Divs

    I've got the layout of my site mostly done. On the domain I'm testing this layout on - http://networkgenius.org/ - there is a vertical space separating the content-wrapper div and the menu div. I have the margins set to 0px for the vertical spacing, and this is the only area that is separated like it is. I'd like the white content area to be pressed up right against the bottom of the menu, so that none of the body's background shows between them. What am I doing wrong?

  • Getting the executed output of an aspx page after a short delay

    Hi all, I have an aspx page which has some javascript code like <script> setTimeout("document.write('" + place.address + "');",1); </script> As it is clear from the code it will going to write something on the page after a very short delay of 1 ms. I have created an another page to get the page executed by some query string and get its output.   • What programming technique / practice done by you was ahead of its time?

    I once built a very good web application in ASP (classic) back in 2001 and extensively used XmlHttpRequest object in it. (I was lucky that the clients were only using IE, and only IE supported this object at that time). Then later when people started talking about AJAX in 2005, It felt good to have used something ahead (or early) of its time. Well, maybe this does not qualify to be listed as something done ahead of its time. Which programming technology/technique/practice have you done that was ahead of this time.     I've been coding for a while now and would like to start looking into programming games. I know the industry's standard language is C++, for 3D graphics the main choice is between Direct 3D and OpenGL, but what is the most widely used GUI framework? I'm currently on a Mac so if native Windows API is the answer, then what is the cross platform choice? To be clear, I'm not looking for people's favourites but simply what the common or standard game industry's choice is so that I can learn and familiarize myself with it. Thanks, Spencer

  • How to merge two FBOs?

    OK so I have 4 buffers, 3 FBOs and a render buffer. Let me explain. I have a view FBO, which will store the scene before I render it to the render buffer. I have a background buffer, which contains the background of the scene. I have a user buffer, which the user manipulates. When the user makes some action I draw to the user buffer, using some blending. Then to redraw the whole scene what I want to do is clear the view buffer, draw the background buffer to the view buffer, change the blending, then draw the user buffer to the view buffer. Finally render the view buffer to the render buffer. However I can't figure out how to draw a FBO to another FBO. What I want to do is essentially merge and blend two FBOs, but I can't figure out how! I'm very new to OpenGL ES, so thanks for all the help.

  • $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH'] seemingly not available on PHP 5.1.6

    Hi, I've run into a problem on a server running php 5.1.6 - the code i use to detect ajax requests isn't working as the $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH'] variable is missing from the $_SERVER array. The same code works fine on php 5.2 and in firebug i can see the headers include X-Requested-With XMLHttpRequest. Anyone know any more about this issue and how I can get round it? Thanks in advance.

  • Collision detection, alternatives to "push out"

    I'm moving a character (ellipsoid) around in my physics engine. The movement must be constrained by the static geometry, but should slide on the edges, so it won't be stuck. My current approach is to move it a little and then push it back out of the geometry. It seems to work, but I think it's mostly because of luck. I fear there must be some corner cases where this method will go haywire. For example a sharp corner where two walls keeps pushing the character into each other. How would a "state of the art" game engine solve this?

  • Using hg repository as web site

    This is somewhat related to my security question here. Is it a bad idea to use an hg / mercurial repository for a live website? If so, why? Furthermore, we have dev, test and production installations of our website, like dev.example.com, test.example.com and www.example.com. If it's a bad idea to use a repository for a live/production website, would it be OK to use an hg repository for the dev and test sites? I'm also concerned about ease of deployment. We have technical and less technical co-workers who will be working with the site. The technical guys (software engineers) won't have any problem working with the command line or TortoiseHG. I'm more concerned about the less technical guys (web designers). They won't be comfortable working on the command line, and may even find TortoiseHG daunting. These guys mostly upload .css files and images to the server. I'd like for these files (at least the .css files) to be under version control, but I want this to be as transparent as possible for the non technical guys. What's the best way to achieve this? Edit: Our 'site' is actually a multi-site CMS setup with a main repository and several subrepositories. Mock-up of the repository structure: /root [main repository containing core files and subrepositories] /modules [modules subrepository] /sites/global [subrepository for global .css and .php files] /sites/site1 [site1 subrepository] ... /sites/siteN [siteN subrepository] Software engineers would work in the root, modules and sites/global repositories. Less technical guys (web designers) would work only in the site1 ... siteN subrepositories.

  • How to start recognizing design patterns as you are programming?

    I have general academic knowledge of the various design patterns that are discussed in GoF and Head First Design Patterns, but I have a difficult time applying them to the code that I am writing. A goal for me this year is to be able to recognize design patterns that are emerging from the code that I write. Obviously this comes with experience (I have about 2 years in the field), but my question is how can I jumpstart my ability to recognize design patterns as I am coding, maybe a suggestion as to what patterns are easiest to start applying in client-server applications (in my case mainly c# webforms with ms sql db's, but this could definitely be language agnostic).

  • Checkbox has the wrong values

    I have a page with several checkboxes on it, along with a dropdownlist of users. The checkboxes correlate to the user's permissions so each user is different. When a different user is chosen, the check boxes should change to match that user's permissions. The codebehind is correct, I stepped through it and the checkbox.checked value is being assigned to the box with the correct value to match the user. chk.Checked = viewable; No matter what I assign to the checked property the value stays the same as the very first submittal. I tried chk.EnableViewState = false; but that did not help. I am sure it is dot net trying to be helpful (grrr). Thank you for your help. There is no databinding per se. I will be saving the values from the textboxes via xmlhttp when the user clicks on them. I never want the check boxes to fill with values other than what I give them.   • Is there a HIPAA certification that would be helpful to programmers?

    I work at a Medical Billing company that's software handles many facets of the centers practice, including patients, treatments, etc. To be frank, the only thing I know about HIPAA is security is paramount. I was wondering if there were any training courses with an earned certification proving knowledge/experience that I could use to increase my worth to the company, and give them a selling point (we have HIPAA certified employees). I did a Google search and found this site, but it does not appear legitimate, and I'm trying to avoid any of those fake certification/degree sites. Does anyone know of any recognized and legitimate (preferably government sponsored) HIPAA certifications useful to programmers? If state is a factor, I live in Oklahoma.

  • How to accurately parse smtp message status code (DSN)?

    RFC1893 claims that status codes will come in the format below you can read more here. But our bounce management system is having a hard time parsing error status code from bounce messages. We are able to get the raw message, but depending on the email server the code will come in different places. Is there any rule on how to parse this type of messages to obtain better results. We are not looking for the 100% solution but at least 80%. This document defines a new set of status codes to report mail system conditions. These status codes are intended to be used for media and language independent status reporting. They are not intended for system specific diagnostics. The syntax of the new status codes is defined as: status-code = class "." subject "." detail class = "2"/"4"/"5" subject = 1*3digit detail = 1*3digit White-space characters and comments are NOT allowed within a status- code. Each numeric sub-code within the status-code MUST be expressed without leading zero digits. The quote above from the RFC tells one thing but then the text below from a leading tool on bounce management says something different, where I can get a good source of standard status codes: Return Code Description 0 UNDETERMINED - (ie.   • Syntax highlighting with Chili

    I want to use jquery Chili plugin for syntax highlighting a piece of code thats generated on the fly, but its not working for the same, because the code is inserted into the #output div on page load.   • @font-face fonts only work on their own domain

    I am trying to create a type of font repository for use on my websites, so that I can call to any font in the repository in my css without any other set-up. To do this I created a subdomain on which I placed folders for each font in the repository that contained the various file types for each font. I also placed a css file called font-face.css on the root of the subdomain and filled it with @font-face declarations for each of the fonts, the fonts a linked with an absolute link so that they can be used from anywhere. My issue is that it seems that I can only use the fonts on that subdomain where they are located, on my other sites the font does not show. Using firebug I determined that the font-face.css file was successfully being linked to and loaded. So why does the font not correctly load? Is there protection on the font files or something? I am using all fonts that I should be allowed to do this with, so I don't see why this is occurring. Maybe it is an apache issue, but I can download the font just fine when I link to it. Oh, and just to clarify, I am not violating any copyrights by setting this up, all the fonts I am using are licensed to allow this sort of thing. I would however like to set up a way that only I can have access to this repository of fonts but that's another project.

  • Automatically select option from select menu with link

    Hello there, I am trying to use php (and if not php, javascript) to link to a page and include a "?type=foo" or "#foo" at the end of the link so that when the linked page loads it will automatically select a specific option, depending on the end of the link, from a dropdown menu in a form. I have tried to search for this but do not know what this action is actually called, but I've seen it done before. Does anyone know how to achieve this? Thanks very much.
