• How to wait for the user to select one of the datagridview rows?

  I have a datagridview populated with some Names, I want to perform a check of all the Name in another database with the Names in datagridview and add the Surnames to the adjacent cell when a match is found, this I am achieving by string compare method. My Problem is that due to typing inconsistencies & at times with two people having same names some of the names are not being adjudged properly. What I want is to give user the choice to either choose one of the names present in Datagridview which they consider is best match or enter both First Name & Surname in a new row. To achieve this I want the program to wait until user has clicked on one of the rows in the datagridview. Is there a way to wait to this effect? Thanks Jhon

• EXC_BAD_ACCESS when not using self.

  I got nabbed by the following bug again and would like some clarification to exactly why it is a bug. I have a simple UITableView that loads some data: // myclass.h @property (nonatomic, retain) NSArray *myData // myclass.m @synthesize myData; - (void) viewDidLoad { ... myData = someDataSource // note the lack of self } - (UITableViewCell *) cellForRowAtIndexPath ... { ... cell.textLabel.text = [self.myData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; // EXC_BAD_ACCESS } The table first loads fine, but when scrolling up enough that one of the cells is totally out of the view I then get the EXC_BAD_ACCESS error. Am I missing something in regards to @property retain. My understanding is that it releases anything that the pointer was previously pointing to before the reassignment. If I am correct then why would not using self. cause any problems? Thanks for the help.

  Hi, I have 3 tables (Student, Course, student_course_choose(have field grade)) I defined a view on these 3 tables that get me an Average of the each student. I want to have constraint(with trigger) on these view(or on the table that need it) to limit the average of each student between 13 and 18. I somewhere read that I must use foreach statement(instead of foreach row) on trigger because when I decrease some grade of special student and his/her average become less than 13 they don't give me error (because later I increase grade of another his/her course ). how must I wrote this Trigger? (I want to implement aprh for testing trigger) note:I can write it in SQL server, oracle or Mysql no diff for me.

  As I was typing some constants in Java I noticed I had used 4 keywords in a row, which Eclipse highlighted for me: public static final int. I then took a break from my regular coding and asked myself (and google with no relevant results) what the longest chain of keywords I can use and still have valid code. After a while, the best I could come up with was this method definition: public synchronized static final strictfp int a() { ... which is 6 keywords in Java. Is it possible to go 7, or even higher? What about other languages?

Expected Result : Columns = ItemID | Name | Field1 | Field2 | Field3 Each Row= ItemId | ItemName| Value1 | Value2 | Value3 Important concerns : 1: Number of fields per item are not known 2: I need one to write ONE query. 3: Query will be running on 100K records, so performance is concern. 4: I am using MySQL 5.0, so need solution for MYSQL Should I denormalize the tables if above query is not possible at all ?   I have two tables, House and Person. For any row in House, there can be 0, 1 or many corresponding rows in Person. But, of those people, a maximum of one will have a status of "ACTIVE", the others will all have a status of "CANCELLED". e.g. SELECT * FROM House LEFT JOIN Person ON House.ID = Person.HouseID House.ID | Person.ID | Person.Status 1 | 1 | CANCELLED 1 | 2 | CANCELLED 1 | 3 | ACTIVE 2 | 1 | ACTIVE 3 | NULL | NULL 4 | 4 | CANCELLED I want to filter out the cancelled rows, and get something like this: House.ID | Person.ID | Person.Status 1 | 3 | ACTIVE 2 | 1 | ACTIVE 3 | NULL | NULL 4 | NULL | NULL I've achieved this with the following sub select: SELECT * FROM House LEFT JOIN ( SELECT * FROM Person WHERE Person.Status != "CANCELLED" ) Person ON House.ID = Person.HouseID ...which works, but breaks all the indexes. Is there a better solution that doesn't? I'm using MySQL and all relevant columns are indexed. EXPLAIN lists nothing in possible_keys. Thanks.

  Ok here is my problem : Before i start the description, let me to tell you that I have googled up a lot and I am posting this question for a good optimal solution :) i am building a rest service on WCF to get userProfiles... the user can filter userProfiles by giving something like userProfiles?location=London now i have the following method GetUserProfiles(string firstname, string lastname, string age, string location) the sql query string i built is: select firstname, lastname, .... from profiles where (firstName like '%{firstname}%') AND (lastName like '%{lastName}%') ....and so on with all variables being replaced by string formatter. Problem with this is that it filters any row having firstname, lastname, age or location having a null value.... doing something like (firstName like '%{firstName}%' OR firstName IS NULL) would be tedious and the statement would become unmaintanable! (in this example there are only 4 arguments, but in my actual method there are 10) What would be the best solution for this?....How is this situation usually handled? Database used : MySql

  Hi! I've been struggling for a while with this one; I'll try to explain it here as simply as possible. Consider this MySQL table: +----------+-----------+---------+--------+ |status_id |session_id |pilot_id |present | +----------+-----------+---------+--------+ |1 |61 |901 |1 | |2 |63 |901 |1 | |3 |62 |901 |0 | |4 |62 |902 |1 | |5 |63 |903 |1 | +----------+-----------+---------+--------+ Both session_id and pilot_id are foreign keys making reference to a primary key in another table. The same pilot_id can be associated with different session_id, but every pilot_id-session_id combination is unique. I need to make an HTML table (in PHP) that would display the data like this: +----------+---------+---------+---------+ | |61 |62 |63 | +----------+---------+---------+---------+ |901 |X | |X | |902 | |X | | |903 | | |X | +----------+---------+---------+---------+ Hence, rows are pilot_id and columns are session_id. When a pilot_id-session_id combination has a present value of 1, the corresponding cell should be checked. (ie. when the row-combination is zero or the combination does not exist in the MySQL table, nothing should appear in the HTML table) Phew. Any ideas? Thanks!

I tried using 'join' but since I need to use multiple where clauses I can't figure out how to get this to work ..

• When is it good to start using project management applications?

  Hello, I was wondering, when is the right time or the correct project size to start using project management applications ( like Redmine or Trac ). I have a serious project, for now it's only me developing, but I use redmine to set my project versions, issues, and estimations. I think it's a good idea, because you never know when somebody else is going to join the team, and also allows me to organize myself effectively. I ask this question because I was Teaching Assistant at my university for one year in a row for a course, and I got questions about this very very often. While I'm a believer of the KISS principle, I think that learning to use this tools early is a win-win most of the time. I really believe that we can avoid this question to become argumentative, and that there's somewhat of a consensus about this issue, which I consider quite important in todays software development world. So, when is the right time ? what is the correct project/team size ?

  Generally, I am bulding dynamic SQL statement that is executing using sp_executsql like this: EXEC sp_executesql @TempSQLStatement I need to insert the return result row set in something (table variable or temporary table), but I am getting the following error: Msg 208, Level 16, State 0, Line 1746 Invalid object name '#TempTable'. after executing this: INSERT INTO #TempTable EXEC sp_executesql @TempSQLStatement From what I have read, I believe the issue is caused because I am not specifying the columns of the temporary table, but I am not able to do this because the return columns count varies. I have read that I can use global temporary tables, but I have done this before and wonder is there an other way to do that.

• Does Displaytag stash the "media type" in a page or request attribute?

  When you enable "export" from Displaytag, the tag code gives you links with special magic parameters that the tag recognizes as indicators that the table contents should be exported (as CSV, Excel, whatever). Well I'm interested in detecting the media type so that (for example) I can exclude columns that make no sense in an export (embedded action buttons, for one thing, or checkboxes for row selection). I suppose I could write a table decorator and use that to stick the media type on the request, but it'd be nice to avoid that if the tag already does it. The documentation is not clear on the subject; I guess I can start digging through the source code too.

• Copying Data to a Master sheet from other sheets without duplicates

  I have four workbooks, three of which are for data entries, and the latter which hosts all data entered in the other workbooks; as a matter of fact, it serves as a master workbook. I need code to copy data entered in each workbook in sheet 1 to be copied to the next available row on sheet 1 of the master workbook, but if the data to be copied from these individual workbooks are duplicates, then a message box should pop up displaying that its a duplicate. To be precise, I want the users to type p in column j indicating process, and click a button in the spreadsheet to copy the data to the master sheet. I would be glad for any assistance.   Hello, We are attempting to rework the SQL in a product. The product stores XML in a table as follows: XML_STORAGE - UID IDENTITY - PARENT_ID INTEGER - SEQ INTEGER - XML VARCHAR(3800) The current way of doing this is as follows: Retrieve all ROWS for PARENT_ID = n. Then go over the fetched rows in the code and concatenate the XML strings into one large XML before parsing. The SEQ column is used to ORDER the result so the XML strings can be concatenated properly. Hopefully that is clear. What we are attempting to do is rework this so we can use a SQL variant to retrieve the whole string and just fetch one row back from DB2. Is there a DB2 function that will allow us to concatenate the string in all of these rows into one large string in the resultset. How would such a SQL look. Please let me know. After population I see the text I want using getTable("tableLister.listTable.1.1") The table also has a class=clsDisplayTableBody. I want to click the check box in column 0 for the row of interest.   Hi, Here's my problem: I have 2 identical tables (past month data, current month data) - data_2010_03, data_2010_04: Content_type (VARCHAR), content_id (INT), month_count (INT), pubDate (DATETIME) Data in month_count is updated hourly, so for each combination of content_type and content_id we insert new row, where value of month_count is incrementally updated. Now I try something like this: SELECT MAX(t1.month_count) AS max_1, MAX(t2.month_count) AS max_2, SUM(max_1 + max_2) AS result, t1.content_type, t1.content_id FROM data_2010_03 AS t1 JOIN data_2010_04 AS t2 ON t1.content_type = t2.content_type AND t1.content_id = t2.content_id WHERE t2.pubDate < '2010-04-08' AND t1.content_type = 'video' GROUP BY t1.content_id ORDER BY result desc, max_1 desc, max_2 desc LIMIT 0,10 I get an error "Unknown column 'max_1' in 'field list'. Please help.

• Problems with Visual Studio Express installation

  I just installed 'Visual C# 2008 Express Edition' and 'Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition' on my Vista machine. Previously I have been running these in Win XP. When launching the software, starting a new project and trying to build it I get warnings like "The referenced component 'System' could not be found."; one row for each namespace used. I have .NET Framework 3.5 installed and are able to browse through the tabs in 'Add reference', but I cannot make it work. (A re-install did not help.) Is there an easy fix?
