• Copy Office files from a Mac to a PC

  A friend of me recently dumped his Mac fpr a PC. He used Microsoft Office for Mac and has several hundred Files (Word, Excel) which were copied over to the new PC using a USB disk. Microsoft Office is now unable to read any of there files. I suspect this is because of little endian vs. big endian. Is there any tool which can converted all theses files automatically, doing this by hand would take ages.

  Could anyone explain to me why is it that producers of processors claim that their processor can perform so many thousands (or millions) operations per second and yet typical program (Word, VS etc.) on my machine with 4GB, 3500hz starts with no less than 10 sec. Have to mention that I've just formatted disk and tick any necessary boxes to optimize my machine. So if for example outlook starts in 10 sec I wonder how many millions of operations have to be performed to run such program? Thanks

• Cannot copy non-latin characters from PDF document

  Hi, I have a pdf file which contains some non-latin european characters. If I copy some text with the highlight tool, and paste it into another program (word, notepad) - the 'special' characters do not transfer correctly (I get other odd characters in their place). I have tried copying the text from both Acrobat Reader and Foxit. Is there anything I can do here to copy this? Thanks

  I have the iPhone 3G with OS 3.1 3.0.1 on it. Every time I type a text message that includes the word "me", it gets auto corrected to "mr". So my friends get a text that says "call mr when you get done" or "jack told mr about it yesterday" how do i change this autocorrect so it stops changing my "me" to a "mr"?

  I want to make certain directories on my drives read-only except to particular programs who will have full permissions. For example, the Microsoft Word might be allowed to modify the files in my Documents folder, but other programs (such as the Command Prompt) would not be allowed to. I'm guessing this requires a file system filter driver of some sort, but I don't know which programs have this capability. Is there any (free) program that can do this for me?

  I've been trying to make a script that will a file name and change only one word in it. An example would be: projectname.vcproj.domainname.username.user to projectname.vcproj.otherdomainname.username.user I've tried using the if loop to list the directory and set the delimiter to a period but it doesn't seem to be able to identify and change it. I'm using examples of renaming .txt files but it doesn't seem to work, any suggestions?

  Hi, I am looking for a way to exclude specific file types from being logged in the security audits. I have a folder being audited for deletion events and the majority of logged events are .tmp files (such as a temp Word file that is automatically deleted when the app is closed) which I do not care about. If I have company word documents, excel spreadsheets, etc on my computer, do these scanners just take a copy of everything on my hard drive, put it on their server, and search through them?   There are lots of ways to disable pendrive automount. I used one, but regreted, forgot which one and now need to reenable pendrive automount. It may have been a changed setting after pressing a button while booting Ubuntu or a deleted folder named something20090101 or 01012009something or whatever as long as it's a word and a date... If I don't want pendrive viruses, it's disable autorun, but keep automount enabled, right? blush

  I have a java code that reads an excel file and writes it to a text file. When i get the output text file, I can see only symbols like this in the notepad. "????????????????????????????" But if i open the text file in wordpad or ms-word, the data is correctly displayed. What could be the error?

Having attempted a 'repair' out of Disk Utility, am still seeing: there is a problem with the Office database upon startup, after which Word/Excel work without issues. Outlook on the other hand won't even start. Given the obvious message here "You do not have write access to the Outlook application folder" – where is the DB located to check?
