• How to install Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction?

  I first tried to install Diablo 2 LOD from an iso image using acetone iso. However, after acetone iso mounted the image, it said "Please install the labelled disc". I then tried with Gmount, and, following advice I received from some forums, I attempted to create mount points and then install; after it mounted the image, it installed the first three disc images but not the expansion. When I tried to play, it told me to insert the labelled disc, even though the iso image was still mounted with Gmount. How can I resolve this problem?

• Chainload boot of Ubuntu installed on 32GB SD card from legacy Grub boot on USB

  I have Ubuntu installed on a 32 GB SD card (in the Storage Expansion slot on an Acer Aspire One) with Grub2 installed in the same partition. I boot into legacy Grub on a USB drive and would like to boot by chainloading Grub2 from Grub (kernel/initrd or symlink booting would also be fine), but I haven't figured out how to do this from legacy Grub CLI. Output from blkid for this partition is /dev/mmcblk0p1: LABEL="Ubuntu" UUID="7ceb9fa7-238c-4c5d-bb8e-2c655652ddec" TYPE='ext4" / fdisk -lu information Boot indicator ID 83. Related entries in grub.cfg: search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set-root 7ceb9fa7-238c-4c5d-bb8e-2c655652ddec linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-17-generic root=UUID=7ceb9fa7-238c-4c5d-bb8e-2c655652ddec... initrd /boot/initrd.img-3.5.0-17-generic I can't seem to replicate this in legacy Grub. Is there any way get Grub2 to chainload? How do I set root with UUID in legacy Grub? I prefer to boot from USB. Would Grub2 on USB (copying the grub.cfg generated during installation) be an option?

• Toyota's Supply Chain "ran too hot"

  The Feb 28th '10 edition of the Economist had a very informative artical (pg.74) on Toyota's over-stretched supply chain pointing out that they were ' the author of most of its own misfortunes".  James Womack is quoted in the piece on Toyota's rapid expansion 'meant working with a lot of unfamiliar suppliers who didn't have a deep understandin of Toyota's culture.  The majority of the problems almost certainly originated not in the Toyota factories but in those of the supppliers'. One purchasing executive said that it started in mid-2008, when the weaker parts of the supply chain were put under great strain. There is a need for visibility but not always there. Firms need transparancy and speed of communications to make sure defective parts and errors dont reach the customer. It concludes with guidance to manufacturers: "It may be safer not to have all your eggs in one basket, but to have maybe 3 suppliers for major components who can benchmark each other' - Toyota was the peerless exemplar, now seen as an awful warning

• Recycle Old Hardware into a Showcase Table

  If you have a plethora of old hardware laying around, especially motherboard and expansion cards, this obsolete-hardware-to-table hack is just the ticket for your office or geek cave. The table’s design is simple. They took a regular coffee table, affixed old mother boards to it and then, over the motherboards and elevated by acrylic standoffs, they put a heavy sheet of acrylic to serve as the table top.   Is there a definitive guide to writing code comments, aimed at budding developers? Ideally, it would cover when comments should (and should not) be used, and what comments should contain. This answer: Do not comment WHAT you are doing, but WHY you are doing it. The WHAT is taken care of by clean, readable and simple code with proper choice of variable names to support it. Comments show a higher level structure to the code that can't be (or is hard to) show by the code itself. comes close, but it's a little concise for inexperienced programmers (an expansion on that with several examples and corner cases would be excellent, I think).

  I installed Xubuntu 10.10 on an old box today and the graphical performance is horrid.   I have one application which handles hardware events connected on the same computer's PCIe slots. The maximum number of PCIe slots on motherboard are two. I have utilized both slots. Now for scaling the application I need either more PCIe slots in same computer or I use another computer. So consider I am using another computer with same application and hardware connected on the PCIe Slots. Now my problem is that I want to design application over it which can access both computers hardware devices and does the process on it. The processed data should be send back to the respective PC's hardware. Please refer the attached diagram for expansion.

  When working on a software project or a website, do you develop with localization in mind? By this I mean e.g. Externalizing all strings, including error messages. Not using images that contain text. Designing your UI with text expansion in mind. Using pseudo-translation to test your UI's early in the process. etc. On projects you work on, are these in the 'nice to have' category and let the L10N team worry about the rest, or do you have localization readiness built into your development process? I'm interested to hear how developers view localization in general.

• Folder missing in external hard drive

  I have been backing up my folders, I am using Seagate Expansion portable Drive. I had created a folder called "|o|o" in the root folder of the portable drive... I copied my latest folders into "|o|o" folder to re-install ubuntu. When I open the portable drive the folder |o|o is not visible, when I ctrl+a and check properties the space used is 122GB, however when I click on the drive to view properties of the drive used space is 260GB. It looks as if the folder is there in the portable drive but I cannot access it... I have tried to view all the hidden files and "|o|o" is still not there. I am using 12.04.Can you please help me to retrieve this folder.

This is a pretty capable setup and definetly did have FF work previously, Note: I've downloaded and installed the ATI drivers from AMD. Not sure how to get WebGL working.   I have an X61 thinkpad (currently running 10.10) that I purchased 3 years ago. I splurged a little and got a Turbo Memory expansion to improve my windows boots. When I installed 10.04 (and subsquently upgraded to 10.10) there was no Turbo Memory support and there's an awful lot of noise on searches. 1) Is there any support for Intel Turbo Memory in 11.04 or trivially compilable into the kernel as swap, suspend, hibernate point, or boot partition? 2) If there is, should I bother trying to use it?

• Why is cleverness considered harmful in programming by some people?

  I've noticed a lot of questions lately relating to different abstraction techniques, and answers saying basically that the techniques in question are "too clever." I would think that part of our jobs as programmers is to determine the best solutions to the problems we are given to solve, and cleverness is helpful in doing that. So my question is: are the people who think certain abstraction techniques are too clever opposed to cleverness per se, or is there some other reason for the objection? EDIT: This parser combinator is an example of what I would consider to be clever code. I downloaded this and looked it over for about half an hour. Then I stepped through the macro expansion on paper and saw the light. Now that I understand it, it seems much more elegant than the Haskell parser combinator.

• Ubuntu 14.04 doesn't detect my discrete GPU

  I recently purchased a laptop with an Nvidia GeForce 860m, and have installed Ubuntu 14.04. On my old laptop I had 12.04, which automatically filled Additional Drivers with Nvidia drivers. But on this computer, the only thing in Additional Drivers is Qualcomm. So I manually installed Nvidia, but X Server Settings doesn't seem to detect any GPU... lspci | grep VGA reports only my integrated Intel GPU, but lspci -v reports many things, including the Nvidia GPU: 01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107M [GeForce GTX 860M] (rev a2) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.   Please go easy on me. I'm a clutzy dinosaur. I currently have a large, unwieldy website hand-coded in html/css with php includes. It currently has a single WP installation in a subdirectory. The plan is to reorganize, and I want to use WP as the CMS and incorporate 3 WP blogs for 3 subdomains. Ideally, would like to create a WP multisite network to allow for further expansion and to save admin trouble. I just want to confirm that if I install WP in the root directory and create 3 blogs (in subdomains), does this mean my website's home page is the mother blog's index.php? Essentially, I will have created 4 blogs - mother at root and 3 children in subdomains? How to set this up on my Mac (OSX 10.5.8) running MAMP for development? And then how to migrate to server without breaking?
