  • Components are not longer resizable after moving

    - by Junior Software Developer
    Hi guys My question relates to swing programming. I want to enlarge a component (component x) by removing it from its parent panel (component a) and adding it in one of component a's parent (component b). Before that, I call setVisible(false) on all components in b. After that I want to make this back by removing it from b and adding on a. After that all components are not longer resizable. Why that? An easy example: import java.awt.BorderLayout; import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Component; import java.awt.Dimension; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JLabel; import javax.swing.JTabbedPane; public class SwingTest { private static ViewPanel layer1; private static JFrame frame; private static JTabbedPane tabbedPane; private static ViewPanel root; public static void main(String[] args) { frame = new JFrame(); frame.setLayout(new BorderLayout()); frame.setMinimumSize(new Dimension(800, 600)); root = new ViewPanel(); root.setBackground(Color.blue); root.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(400, 600)); root.setLayout(new BorderLayout()); root.add(new JLabel("blue area")); layer1 = new ViewPanel(); layer1.setBackground(Color.red); layer1.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(400, 600)); layer1.setLayout(new BorderLayout()); tabbedPane = new JTabbedPane(); tabbedPane.add("A", new JLabel("A label")); tabbedPane.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(400, 600)); layer1.add(tabbedPane); root.add(layer1); frame.add(root, BorderLayout.NORTH); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE); frame.pack(); frame.setVisible(true); Thread t = new Thread() { @Override public void run() { try { Thread.sleep(8000); System.out.println("start"); for (Component c : root.getComponents()) { c.setVisible(false); } layer1.remove(tabbedPane); root.add(tabbedPane); Thread.sleep(8000); root.remove(tabbedPane); layer1.add(tabbedPane); for (Component c : root.getComponents()) { c.setVisible(true); c.repaint(); } } catch (InterruptedException e) { //... } } }; t.start(); } }

  • Sending email using Java, connecting to a gmail host hangs

    - by Tot
    I would like to send emails via Java code. I added in my library the following .JARs: log4j.jar, smtp.jar, mailapi.jar,ctivation.jar. And my Java class looks like this: import java.util.Properties; import javax.mail.*; import javax.mail.internet.*; public class SendEmail { public static void main(String [] args) { String to = "[email protected]"; String from = "[email protected]"; String host = "smtp.gmail.com"; Properties properties = System.getProperties(); properties.setProperty("mail.smtp.host", host); properties.setProperty("mail.smtp.starttls.enable", "true"); properties.setProperty("mail.smtp.auth", "true"); SmtpAuthenticator authentication = new SmtpAuthenticator(); javax.mail.Message msg = new MimeMessage(Session .getInstance(properties, authentication)); try { msg.setFrom(new InternetAddress(from)); msg.setRecipient(Message.RecipientType.TO, new InternetAddress(to)); msg.setSubject("Subject"); msg.setText("Working fine..!"); System.out.println("fine1 !!"); Transport transport = Session.getDefaultInstance( properties , null).getTransport("smtp"); System.out.println("fine2 !!"); transport.connect("smtp.gmail.com" , 465 , "username", "password"); System.out.println("fine3 !!"); Transport.send(msg); System.out.println("fine!!"); } catch(Exception exc) { System.out.println(exc); } } } My SmtpAuthenticator class: import javax.mail.Authenticator; import javax.mail.PasswordAuthentication; public class SmtpAuthenticator extends Authenticator { public SmtpAuthenticator() { super(); } @Override public PasswordAuthentication getPasswordAuthentication() { String username = "user"; String password = "password"; if ((username != null) && (username.length() > 0) && (password != null) && (password.length() > 0)) { return new PasswordAuthentication(username, password); } return null; } } When i run my Java application class it prints: fine1 !! fine2 !! And it hangs. How can I get rid of this problem?

  • tap interfaces always disabled in linux bridge

    - by Dani Camps
    I have a physical interface eth0, and I want to create two virtual interfaces and bridge them with eth0. For this purpose I do: #Create the virtual interfaces tunctl -t tap0 tunctl -t tap1 ifconfig tap0 up ifconfig tap1 up #Create the bridge brctl addbr br0 brctl stp br0 off brctl addif br0 eth0 brctl addif br0 tap0 brctl addif br0 tap1 #Turning up the bridge ifconfig br0 up However my problem if that the tap interfaces always appear disabled in the bridge, and no traffic flows to them. $brctl show br0 bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces br0 8000.080027cabeba no eth2 tap0 tap1 $brctl showstp br0 br0 bridge id 8000.080027cabeba designated root 8000.080027cabeba root port 0 path cost 0 max age 20.00 bridge max age 20.00 hello time 2.00 bridge hello time 2.00 forward delay 15.00 bridge forward delay 15.00 ageing time 300.01 hello timer 0.00 tcn timer 0.00 topology change timer 0.00 gc timer 298.42 flags eth2 (1) port id 8001 state forwarding designated root 8000.080027cabeba path cost 4 designated bridge 8000.080027cabeba message age timer 0.00 designated port 8001 forward delay timer 12.97 designated cost 0 hold timer 1.24 flags tap0 (2) port id 8002 state disabled designated root 8000.080027cabeba path cost 100 designated bridge 8000.080027cabeba message age timer 0.00 designated port 8002 forward delay timer 0.00 designated cost 0 hold timer 0.00 flags tap1 (3) port id 8003 state disabled designated root 8000.080027cabeba path cost 100 designated bridge 8000.080027cabeba message age timer 0.00 designated port 8003 forward delay timer 0.00 designated cost 0 hold timer 0.00 flags Is there any way to set the tap interfaces in forwarding state? • onPause/onResume activity issues

    - by Josh
    I have a small test application I am working on which has a timer that updates a textview to countdown from 100 to 0. That works fine, but now I am trying to pause the application if the user presses the back button on the phone and then restart the timer from where they left off when they reopen the app. Here is the code I am using: @Override public void onPause() { if(this._timer_time_remaining > 0) { this.timer.cancel(); } super.onPause(); Log.v("Pausing", String.format("Pausing with %d", this._timer_time_remaining)); } @Override public void onResume() { super.onResume(); Log.v("Resuming", String.format("Resuming with %d", this._timer_time_remaining)); if(this._timer_time_remaining > 0) { setContentView(R.layout.in_game); start_timer(this._timer_time_remaining); } } The start_timer() method creates a CountDownTimer which updates the textview in the onTick method and updates the this._timer_time_remaining int variable. CountDownTimer and _timer_time_remaining are both declared at the class level like this: private CountDownTimer timer; private int _timer_time_remaining; From the Log.v() prints I see that the _timer_time_remaining variable has the correct number of seconds stored when onPause is called, but it is set back to 0 when onResume starts. Why does the variable get reset? I thought that the application would continue to run in the background with the same values. Am I missing something? This is all declared in a class that extends Activity. Thanks in advance!

    When I run the following piece of code, the engine variable is set to null when I'm using OepnJDK 7 (java-7-openjdk-i386). import javax.script.ScriptEngine; import javax.script.ScriptEngineManager; import javax.script.ScriptException; public class TestRhino { /** * @param args */ public static void main(String[] args) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub ScriptEngineManager factory = new ScriptEngineManager(); ScriptEngine engine = factory.getEngineByName("JavaScript"); try { System.out.println(engine.eval("1+1")); } catch (ScriptException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } } } It runs fine with java-6-openjdk and Oracle's jre1.7.0. Any idea why? I'm using Ubuntu 11.10. All JVMs are installed under /usr/lib/jvm. I noticed OpenJDK 7 has a different directory structure. Perhaps something is not installed right? $ locate rhino.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/rhino.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-common/jre/lib/rhino.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-i386/jre/lib/rhino.jar Edit Since ScriptEngineManager uses a ServiceProvider to find the available script engines, I snooped around resources.jar's META-INF/services. I noticed that in OpenJDK 6, resources.jar has a META-INF/services/javax.script.ScriptEngineFactory entry which is missing from OpenJDK 7. Any idea why? I suspect this is a bug? Here is the contents of that entry (from OpenJDK 6): #script engines supported com.sun.script.javascript.RhinoScriptEngineFactory #javascript Another edit Apparently, according to this thread, the code simply isn't there, perhaps because of merging issues between Sun and Mozilla code. I still don't understand why it was present in OpenJDK 6 and not 7. The class com.sun.script.javascript.RhinoScriptEngineFactory exists in 6's rt.jar but not in 7's. If it was not meant to be included, why is there a OpenJDK 7 rhino.jar then; and why is the source still in the OpenJDK source tree (here)?

  • adjust selected File to FileFilter in a JFileChooser

    - by amarillion
    I'm writing a diagram editor in java. This app has the option to export to various standard image formats such as .jpg, .png etc. When the user clicks File-Export, you get a JFileChooser which has a number of FileFilters in it, for .jpg, .png etc. Now here is my question: Is there a way to have the extension of the default adjust to the selected file filter? E.g. if the document is named "lolcat" then the default option should be "lolcat.png" when the png filter is selected, and when the user selects the jpg file filter, the default should change to "lolcat.jpg" automatically. Is this possible? How can I do it? edit: Based on the answer below, I wrote some code. But it doesn't quite work yet. I've added a propertyChangeListener to the FILE_FILTER_CHANGED_PROPERTY, but it seems that within this method getSelectedFile() returns null. Here is the code. package nl.helixsoft; import java.awt.event.ActionEvent; import java.awt.event.ActionListener; import java.beans.PropertyChangeEvent; import java.beans.PropertyChangeListener; import java.io.File; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.List; import javax.swing.JButton; import javax.swing.JFileChooser; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.filechooser.FileFilter; public class JFileChooserTest { public class SimpleFileFilter extends FileFilter { private String desc; private List<String> extensions; private boolean showDirectories; /** * @param name example: "Data files" * @param glob example: "*.txt|*.csv" */ public SimpleFileFilter (String name, String globs) { extensions = new ArrayList<String>(); for (String glob : globs.split("\\|")) { if (!glob.startsWith("*.")) throw new IllegalArgumentException("expected list of globs like \"*.txt|*.csv\""); // cut off "*" // store only lower case (make comparison case insensitive) extensions.add (glob.substring(1).toLowerCase()); } desc = name + " (" + globs + ")"; } public SimpleFileFilter(String name, String globs, boolean showDirectories) { this(name, globs); this.showDirectories = showDirectories; } @Override public boolean accept(File file) { if(showDirectories && file.isDirectory()) { return true; } String fileName = file.toString().toLowerCase(); for (String extension : extensions) { if (fileName.endsWith (extension)) { return true; } } return false; } @Override public String getDescription() { return desc; } /** * @return includes '.' */ public String getFirstExtension() { return extensions.get(0); } } void export() { String documentTitle = "lolcat"; final JFileChooser jfc = new JFileChooser(); jfc.setDialogTitle("Export"); jfc.setDialogType(JFileChooser.SAVE_DIALOG); jfc.setSelectedFile(new File (documentTitle)); jfc.addChoosableFileFilter(new SimpleFileFilter("JPEG", "*.jpg")); jfc.addChoosableFileFilter(new SimpleFileFilter("PNG", "*.png")); jfc.addPropertyChangeListener(JFileChooser.FILE_FILTER_CHANGED_PROPERTY, new PropertyChangeListener() { public void propertyChange(PropertyChangeEvent arg0) { System.out.println ("Property changed"); String extold = null; String extnew = null; if (arg0.getOldValue() == null || !(arg0.getOldValue() instanceof SimpleFileFilter)) return; if (arg0.getNewValue() == null || !(arg0.getNewValue() instanceof SimpleFileFilter)) return; SimpleFileFilter oldValue = ((SimpleFileFilter)arg0.getOldValue()); SimpleFileFilter newValue = ((SimpleFileFilter)arg0.getNewValue()); extold = oldValue.getFirstExtension(); extnew = newValue.getFirstExtension(); String filename = "" + jfc.getSelectedFile(); System.out.println ("file: " + filename + " old: " + extold + ", new: " + extnew); if (filename.endsWith(extold)) { filename.replace(extold, extnew); } else { filename += extnew; } jfc.setSelectedFile(new File (filename)); } }); jfc.showDialog(frame, "export"); } JFrame frame; void run() { frame = new JFrame(); JButton btn = new JButton ("export"); frame.add (btn); btn.addActionListener (new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) { export(); } }); frame.setSize (300, 300); frame.pack(); frame.setVisible(true); } public static void main(String[] args) { javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { JFileChooserTest x = new JFileChooserTest(); x.run(); } }); } }

  • How To Make Moving News Bar in C# Desktop Application without Timer

    - by Ehab Sutan
    Hello, I'm making a desktop application in C# which contains a moving News Bar labels. I'm using a timer to move these labels but the problem is that when i make the interval of this timer low (1-10 for example) the application takes very high percentage of CPU Usage, And when i make it higher(200 -500 ) the movement of the labels becomes intermittent or not smooth movement even that the user may not be able to read the news in Comfortable way. Question is : Is there better way to make news Bar moving in a good manner without consuming high resources. Thanks.

  • OpenMP timer doesn't work on inline assembly code?

    - by Brett
    I'm trying to compare some code samples for speed, and I decided to use the OpenMP timer since I'll eventually be multi threading the code. The timer works great on two of my four code snippets, but not on the other two start=omp_get_wtime(); /*code here*/ finish = omp_get_wtime() - start_time; The four code here sections are serial code, xmmintrin.h code, and two inline assembly codes. The serial and xmminstrin.h code are able to be timed, but the inline assembly codes returns -1.#IND00 for a time. I can't seem to figure out why this is? Thanks for any help or suggestions!

  • Swing code in sockets

    - by asb
    I am learning swings for making GUI. I was thinking which is the best possible way in case of socket with swings. 1. The whole swing code goes in the server file. All the handlers and logic in on server side. Client only create socket. 2. The server have logic part. The code for the swing to display interface goes on client side. Client Creates stream to send / rec. data from server. Whch is the good way out of 2 ?

  • Storyboard as timer in WPF

    - by Adrian
    Hi, I'm trying to do smooth animation in procedural code. For this (in Silverlight at least), it's recommended to use the Storyboard timer rather than a DispatcherTimer. So I use something like this: Storyboard _LoopTimer = new Storyboard(); public void StartAnimation() { _LoopTimer.Duration = TimeSpan.FromMilliseconds(0); _LoopTimer.Completed += new EventHandler(MainLoop); _LoopTimer.Begin(); } void MainLoop(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Do animation stuff here // Continue storyboard timer _LoopTimer.Begin(); } And in Silverlight, this works fine. But in WPF, I only hit MainLoop() once. Setting RepeatBehaviour to Forever doesn't help, either. So what's the right way to do this in WPF with a Storyboard? Thanks very much.

  • Timer running while on home screen iPhone - Objective C

    - by Franky
    Hello, I am interested in building a Timer Based game such as mafia wars or soemthing like that. I'm stuck on one question. What would be the best way to retain a timer, even if the app is closed? Should I do this based on the Device Clock? or should I set a time to a server, and get the time when the device starts up? If any one knows a better way for this, let me know. Thanks. @lessfame

  • Push notification or thread with timer

    - by neha
    Hi all, In my application, I'm having functionality like twitter that when you have not refreshed your screen, and if there're new messages then you get this message that "You have n new messages" and a refresh button, which on press will refresh the screen. I'm basically fetching all the data from an xml with some url. In case of thread, I need to call a timer after some time period which might affect the app performance. Can anybody please suggest wheather what will be better to use push notifications or thread with timer? Thanx in advance.

  • Basic iphone timer example

    - by Rob
    Okay, I have searched online and even looked in a couple of books for the answer because I can't understand the apple documentation for the NSTimer. I am trying to implement 2 timers on the same view that each have 3 buttons (START - STOP - RESET). The first timer counts down from 2 minutes and then beeps. The second timer counts up from 00:00 indefinitely. I am assuming that all of the code will be written in the methods behind the 3 different buttons but I am completely lost trying to read the apple documentation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • JDK-7 SwingWorker deadlocks?

    - by kd304
    I have a small image processing application which does multiple things at once using SwingWorker. However, if I run the following code (oversimplified excerpt), it just hangs on JDK 7 b70 (windows) but works in 6u16. It starts a new worker within another worker and waits for its result (the real app runs multiple sub-workers and waits for all this way). Did I use some wrong patterns here (as mostly there is 3-5 workers in the swingworker-pool, which has limit of 10 I think)? import javax.swing.SwingUtilities; import javax.swing.SwingWorker; public class Swing { static SwingWorker<String, Void> getWorker2() { return new SwingWorker<String, Void>() { @Override protected String doInBackground() throws Exception { return "Hello World"; } }; } static void runWorker() { SwingWorker<String, Void> worker = new SwingWorker<String, Void>() { @Override protected String doInBackground() throws Exception { SwingWorker<String, Void> sw2 = getWorker2(); sw2.execute(); return sw2.get(); } }; worker.execute(); try { System.out.println(worker.get()); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } public static void main(String[] args) { SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { runWorker(); } }); } }

  • suggestions for declarative GUI programming in Java

    - by Jason S
    I wonder if there are any suggestions for declarative GUI programming in Java. (I abhor visual-based GUI creator/editor software, but am getting a little tired of manually instantiating JPanels and Boxes and JLabels and JLists etc.) That's my overall question, but I have two specific questions for approaches I'm thinking of taking: JavaFX: is there an example somewhere of a realistic GUI display (e.g. not circles and rectangles, but listboxes and buttons and labels and the like) in JavaFX, which can interface with a Java sourcefile that accesses and updates various elements? Plain Old Swing with something to parse XUL-ish XML: has anyone invented a declarative syntax (like XUL) for XML for use with Java Swing? I suppose it wouldn't be hard to do, to create some code based on STaX which reads an XML file, instantiates a hierarchy of Swing elements, and makes the hierarchy accessible through some kind of object model. But I'd rather use something that's well-known and documented and tested than to try to invent such a thing myself. JGoodies Forms -- not exactly declarative, but kinda close & I've had good luck with JGoodies Binding. But their syntax for Form Layout seems kinda cryptic. edit: lots of great answers here! (& I added #3 above) I'd be especially grateful for hearing any experiences any of you have had with using one of these frameworks for real-world applications. p.s. I did try a few google searches ("java gui declarative"), just didn't quite know what to look for.
