  I just did some testing for Int PK join Vs Guid PK. Tables structure and number of records looking like that: Performance of CRUD operations using EF4 are pretty similar in both cases. As we know Int PK has better performance rather than strings. So SQL server execution plan with INNER JOINS are pretty different Here is an execution plan. As i understand according with execution plan from attached image Int join has better performance because it is taking less resources for Clustered index scan and it is go in two ways, am i right? May be some one may explain this execution plan in more details?

• C# public partial struct methods for more System.Windows.Media.Color

  How can I put in additional methods for manipulating color ? Best would be to overload the struct System.Windows.Media.Color. It is NOT a class (in c#). Now i'm tinkering with putting (in the same file for testing or must i put it in a different file) an namespace (Silverlight Application36 or System.Windows.Media ?) and a partial struct Color Normalize (double R, ...). I should see MyColor.Normalize() start being recognized by intellisense ? I'm not. I'm looking to put in a suite of overloaded color manipulations using floating and double numbers instead of unsigned byte integers. Any hints while I wack at it ? Cheers! dr.K

• Disabling multitasking on iPhone 3GS using UIApplicationExitsOnSuspend not working

  Hello I am developing an iPhone app where I don’t want/need the multitasking capability and I want my app to initiate every time I open it. I have set the UIApplicationExitsOnSuspend property in the info.plist and it does work when I test it on my iPhone 4 and in the simulator (which is also an ”iPhone 4”). The app calls applicationDidEnterBackground followed by applicationWillTerminate. However, when testing it on my wifes iPhone 3GS the property seems to be completely ignored and the program gets suspended/resumed. Both phones are running iOS 4.2.1. Someone has also confirmed this issue in another thread, with no solutions unfortunately: iPhone: how to test if UIApplicationExitsOnSuspend is working? Is there something I am missing to make this work? Any other ways to accomplish this? Thanx in advance

• Trying to make my leaflet map work on internet explorer

  I have been tearing my hair out of late trying to get my web map working on internet explorer. It's working flawlessly on every other major browser but none of the content will load in IE. Anyone out there who's good at browser testing that could help out? I know the leaflet javascript api, which I'm using for this project, supports IE in theory. In practice this isn't working out too well... • How would you create a string of all UTF-8 characters? [PHP]

  There are many ways to represent the +1 million UTF-8 characters. Take the latin capital "A" with macron (A). This is unicode code point U+0100, hex number 0xc4 0x80, decimal number 196 128, and binary 11000100 10000000. I would like to create a collection of the first 65,535 UTF-8 characters for use in testing applications. These are all unicode characters up to code point U+FFFF (byte3). Is it possible to do something like a for($x=0) loop and then convert the resulting decimal to another base (like hex) which would allow the creation of the matching unicode character? I can create the value A using something like this: $char = "\xc4\x80"; // or $char = chr(196).chr(128); However, I am not sure how to turn this into an automated process. // fail! $char = "\x". dechex($a). • UDF function with library dependencies on MySQL 5.1

  I'm having a problem with a MySQL UDF function (mychem.sourceforge.net) that's dependent on a large library (openbabel.org) which is in turn plugin based. The problem is that the format plugins to openbabel doesn't seem to load in MySQL 5.1 and I suspect it might be due to the plugin_dir setting. I have set plugin_dir to /usr/lib/ which is the location for both libmychem.so and libopenbabel.so as well as the directory openbabel that contains the format plugins. Is there a way to turn off the plugin_dir restriction in MySQL (preferably without compiling MySQL from sources) so that I can test this hypothesis or do you have a different idea on what might cause the problem? All this is done on Ubuntu 10.04 (but I had the same kind of problems on 8.04, where I managed to get it working after a lot of steps that I unfortunately have forgotten...) I have turned off apparmor during testing and it doesn't help either.

  Was about to finally submit an app when I realized that the youtube videos I'm playing play from the iPhone, but not the iPad. I have some code that's going into /etc/rc.local to detect what type of touch screen monitor is plugged in and changes out the xorg.conf before launching X. Here is a small snippet: CURRENT_MONITOR=`ls /dev/usb | grep 'egalax_touch\|quanta_touch'` case $CURRENT_MONITOR in '') CURRENT_MONITOR='none' ;; esac If one of those two touch screens is plugged in, it works just fine. If any other monitor is plugged in, it stops at the "CURRENT_MONITOR=ls /dev/usb | grep 'egalax_touch\|quanta_touch'." For testing I touched two files. One before creating CURRENT_MONITOR and one after CURRENT_MONITOR and only file touched before is created. I'm not a bash programmer so this might be something very obvious.

  I have a survey web-app that is public facing. I want to set up automated testing with Selenium, but selenium can't capture javascript alerts that we're currently using on the site. I'm thinking about changing our user-facing error notifications to some web 2.0 javascript library so that it is accessible to Selenium. However, I'm not sure how many of our users would be able to experience them properly. How backwards-compatible do I need to be in the present day? I have collected a database of actual user-agent strings of our users. I asked here how I could group them into meaningful data about what browsers our users are actually using.

• Adding icon to gcc executable and opening in terminal.

I won't be able to implement any GUI portion in the code right now but I need to deploy it to test users for testing. I want to have the executable with an icon so that a user can click on the executable and the program starts in the terminal. • CPU Usage relative to number of users? - ASP.Net Application

  My Asp.net application uses 25-30% of the CPU on a test server which has 600 MB Ram on it. I can see the asp_wb process taking that much percentage of CPU. This is when I am testing using one user. How many users can the server afford then without falling over? Is there a relationship between the CPU Usage and number of user aka if there are 2 users my application will sky rocket to 60% of memory usage? Or does/Should/How does the server handle this?

  I have picked up some possible answers to my problem here, but none have so far worked. I have installed XAMPP but get the dreaded HTTP 404 error on both IE and Firefox when asking for 'http://localhost/'. I work with Dreamweaver but cannot get the testing server (XAMPP) to work, although I can connect to the linux/apache remote server. Skype has been uninstalled. Therefore XAMPP is running on port 80 by itself. XAMPP says Apache and Mysql have 'started'. Is there someone that could please help me?

• xvfb on a machine with a display, can an application run 'in the background?'

  I'm setting up to cron a web scraping job, using xvfb, firefox, and watir on my Mac OS X. In testing the script so far, firefox pops up visibly on the local desktop, the watir script executes, and then firefox exits (I quit firefox in my script). I'd like to set the xvfb DISPLAY such that firefox will run, but won't be seen on the local desktop, running 'in the background' so to speak. Nothing I've been able to find online discusses such a possibility - nor explains that it's not possible. Is it possible? If so, what do I need to do to make it work?

• Android Apps Not Showing Up In AVD

  I recently started messing with Android Apps, but I have had nothing but problems trying to get them into the Virtual Device for testing. For some reason, they never seem to show up in the AVD. It has worked one time, but that's it out of hours spent just trying to test one or two very simple apps. I've redone the AVD setup many, many times, trying different settings and what not to no avail. I've followed multiple guides and tutorials to the letter to get it working, but they just refuse to show up in the list. :( Any insight would be appreciated, thank you.

  When using TextRenderer.DrawText(), what does setting the TextFormatFlags.Internal flag actually do? Equivalently, what does setting the DT_INTERNAL flag to Win32's DrawTextEx() function do? More to the point, when should I set that flag and when should I not set it? The documentation says: "Uses the system font to calculate text metrics", but I'm not entirely sure what that means. I've done some limited testing and setting the flag seems to change how the font is rendered when using a small font size, but doesn't seem to make a difference when using a large font size.

  Hi, i'm trying to put an activeX object on an asp-webpage. it already worked good a week ago, but now the object isn't showing up anymore. already made a little asp testing-project....just an asp-page and a activex control, containing a button and a label. but when i call up the page in the browser, there is only a white area with a little icon in the upper left corner, showing a red dot, a green triangle and a blue rectangle.... what does that mean? object not found? object blocked by IE? or what exactly does this icon stand for? i always thoght that an missing object is represented by an empty area with a little red cross in it. =/

  Hello I have some question about naive bayes classifier . In my project I have to classify a text into a class from 4 available class. In naive bayes we have formula like cmap=argmax.P(d|c).P(c) I have standarize the amount of training document of each class, so I got a same P(c) value for each class (0.25). Here's my question: What if a testing document token doesn't have any token which belong to any of those 4 class(in document training)? Resulted to all of the class have same value of P(d|c).P(c). Which class should i pick? What if the token exist, and 2 class or more have same value of P(d|c).P(c) what should I do? Thank you..

• Zend Framework on a Shared Host

  I am trying to push my first ZF project to my shared hosting provider. I have done a lot of testing on my home server and everything is working great. My issue is that I do not know how to set up my .htaccess files on the shared hosting provider to make it work correctly. The ZF documentation says to configure my Apache config VirtualServer DocumentRoot to /whatever/path/project-folder/public, but I don't have that kind of access. How do I get around this? I have seen http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1115547/zend-framework-on-shared-hosting but none of those solutions have worked for me. • silverlight vs ASP.NET MVC

  I'm debating whether to use Silverlight 2.0 vs ASP.NET MVC for a web application. The web application will be a subscription free service marketing all age groups. It's important the source is highly testable, but also with the Web 2.0 movement a graphical web application is important as well for competitive reasons. I'm assuming silverlight is better than the ajax helpers/MVC graphically, but foundation-wise testing is better/easier with MVC. Possibly an MVP pattern with Silverlight could increase the testability of the source. Could anyone elaborate on the pros/cons of each technology and recommend one or the other based on the above? (addition 9/22/08) In regards to allowing search engines to index the site, using either technology it will utilize a backend database whereas a lot of the content will be dynamically generated. Based on some of the comments, when we talk of the searchable content would the home page of the application if written in silverlight be searchable? Would I be able to get the site to appear in a google search?

  Greetings... I'm trying to get my Sharepoint 2007 site to render in Standards mode when browsing in IE. Since makes every browser that I might be worrying about do just that, I decided to use it. I've read here and there that Standards mode could cause unwanted behavior to some OOTB functionality and style (fly-outs, calendar items, etc...), but can't find a full list containing error reference and ways to correct it. So, I'm looking for any kind of info and guidance on the matter...
