• Boot xen server through ipxe

  I'm want install Xen Server 6.2 though ipxe, I tried different configurations, no luck making to work until now. • Fix corrupt NTFS partition without Windows

  MY NTFS Partition has gotten corrupt somehow (it's a relic from the days when I had Windows installed). I'm putting the debug output of fdisk and blkid here. At the same time, any OS is unable to mount my root partition, which is located next to my NTFS partition. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, though. • mysql remote connection [closed]

  I spoke with my host supporter to find what is my sql hostname. He said that the only way is add permissions in mysql remote (cpanel) to my actual ip. So the config in heidiSQL for example will be localhost userxxx passxxx But i have a dynamic ip, so i need to change the permissions every time, correct? Add the flag % probably is not a good idea, so how can I solve this problem? Why I dont have something like mysql.something.com ? Sorry, if this question is too basic.

• Unknown CSS font-family oddity with IE7-10 on Win Vista-8

  I am seeing the following "oddity" with IE7-10 on Win Vista-8: When declaring font-family: serif; I am seeing an old bitmapped serif font that I can't identify (see screenshot below) instead of the expected font Times New Roman. I know it's an old bitmapped font because it displays aliased, without any font smoothing, with IE7-10 on Win Vista-8 (just like Courier on every version of Win). Screenshot: I would like to know (1) can anyone else confirm my research and (2) BONUS: which font is IE displaying? Notes: IE6 and IE7 on Win XP displays Times New Roman, as they should. It doesn't matter if font-family: serif; is declared in an external stylesheet or inline on the element. Quoting the CSS attribute makes no difference. • How do I restore my system from a "Backup and Restore Center" backup?

  The Windows (Vista) documentation and available online info is comprehensively vague. If I have a moderately brain dead system and want to restore it, and I have a "Backup and Restore Center" backup whose "delta" is not quite a week old (but with a "full backup" behind it), what steps do I go through to recover my box back to that backup point? It's totally unclear whether simply doing "restore all" from the (advanced) "Center" is sufficient, or do I need to first take the box back to day zero with the system restore DVD, et al? (Just editing this to get my correct ID associated with it.)

• Dealing with "jumping" sprites: badly centered?

  Thing is, I've used darkFunction Editor as a way to get all the spriteCoordinates off a spriteSheet for each individual sprite, and parse the .xml it generates inside my game. It all works fine, except when the sprites are all similarly sized, but when a sprite changes from a small sprite into a big one, such as here: When from walking from some direction, to attacking, it starts "jumping", appearing glitchy, because it's not staying in the same correct position, only doing so for the right attacking sprite, due to the drawing being made from the lower left part of the rectangle. I think someone experienced will immediately recognize the problem I mean, if not, when I return home soon, I will shoot a little youtube video demonstrating the issue! So the question is: what possible solutions are there? I've thought that some sort of individual frame "offset" system might be the answer, or perhaps splitting, in this case, the sprite in 2: the sword, and the character itself, and draw sword according to character's facing, but that might be overly complex. Another speculation would be that there might be some sort of method in LibGdx, the library I'm using, that allows me to change the drawing center (which I looked for and didn't find), so I could choose from where the drawing starts.

They identified several issues and instructed the following to correct the issues: Problem: SSL Server Supports Weak Encryption for SSLv3, TLSv1, Solution: Add the following rule to httpd.conf SSLCipherSuite ALL:!aNULL:!eNULL:!LOW:!EXP:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM Problem: SSL Server Supports CBC Ciphers for SSLv3, TLSv1 Solution: Disable any cipher suites using CBC ciphers Problem: SSL Server Supports Weak MAC Algorithm for SSLv3, TLSv1 Solution: Disable any cipher suites using MD5 based MAC algorithms I tried searching google for a comprehensive tutorial on how to construct an SSLCipherSuite directive to meet my requirements, but I didn't find anything I could understand. I see examples of SSLCipherSuite directives, but I need an explanation on what each component of the directive does. So even in the directive SSLCipherSuite ALL:!aNULL:!eNULL:!LOW:!EXP:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM, I dont understand for example what the !LOW means. Can someone either a) tell me the SSLCipherSuite directive that will meet my needs or b) show me a resource that clearly explains each segment of a SSLCipherSuite is and how to construct one?

• Should websites live in /var/ or /usr/ according to recommended usage?

  According to a guide on the Linux directory structure, /usr/ is for application files, and /var/ is for files that change (I assume this means "files that belong to the applications"). Is this correct? If this is the case then I'm a little torn between using either. A website is an application (if it's dynamic, so to speak), but in other cases it is just a collection of files used by Apache. The default www dir lives in /var/www/, so should we follow suit by using /var/websites/ (or something similar), or choose /usr/websites/ since they could be applications? This is a very trivial question, but it's bugging me nonetheless. For our case, I'm leaning toward /usr/web or something like that, since our websites are all applications. Update: This is for our company websites; it's not a shared hosting server, so we don't need to worry about separating them in /home/ or anything like that.

• Does an ESEUTIL defrag of an Exchange store also perform an integrity check/repair on it?

  Earlier this morning, store.exe fuzzled up in one way or another, which necessitated a restart of our Exchange server. It came back online with no errors or problems, all the transaction logs replayed successfully, and all the stores mounted as normal. To me, it was just one of those random crashes; however, our consultant suspects it was caused by corruption in one of the stores. Perhaps he's correct, since he has far more experience than me, but that's not the point. To fix the suspected errors, he's planinng to run an ESEUTIL defrag (via PerfectDisk) to fix them, which he claims will also fix any errors present. From what I understand, defrag, verify, and repair are 3 separate actions, and a defrag does not imply any kind of integrity check. Is this correct? Are there any dangers of running a straight-up defrag on a database that might be corrupt? Edit: Here's the first error in the event log, which indicated the start of the problems we were having. • Windows XP boot: black screen with cursor after BIOS screen

  Here is a weird one, Got computer with Windows XP. It's getting stuck on a black screen with cursor blinking. What did I do: - Boot from installation CD (recovery option - command line): chkdsk C: /R copy D:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\ copy D:\i386\ntldr c:\ fixmbr fixboot Chkdsk showed 0 bad sectors and no problems during scan. dir on C:\ shows all directories and files in place (Windows, Program Files, Documents and Settings). BIOS shows correct boot drive. Still does not boot. Not sure what to think of. Please help. UPDATE: Just performed these steps: Backed up current disk C: (without MBR) using True Image to external hard drive Ran Windows XP clean installation with deleting all partitions and creating new one. Hard drive booted fine into Windows GUI installation!!! Then: Interrupted installation. Booted from True Image recovery CD and restored archive of disk C to an new partition. Same issue with black screen.

• Unable to connect to the Report Server

  Win/7 Professional SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Reporting Services Configuration Manager When I launch it, shows correct Server Name, but report server instance is blank. When I press FIND I get: "Unable to connect to the Report Server " This is my development workstation, so no IIS installed. Seems to work fine on XP. SSMS works fine - no issues. I tried uninstalling SQL Server completely, rebooting, reinstalling a fresh download. Same result. I've googled every article I can find - nothing. Can anyone point me in the right direction in case you've come across this yourself? Thanks.

• Cron stopped working, partially working.

  Our cron script stopped working in different dates in August. What can be the possible reasons? We did not change anything. Our hosting showed us a log where we can see that cron is executing our scripts. But, nothing is happening in our scripts. If we manually execute the scripts, we're getting correct results like before. I showed the commands to hosting and they showed me that the commands are working. What should I tell my hosting? what should I do? They are php scripts which are executed by CRON and they just post to facebook and twitter. They don't execute any hard or huge things. I even asked my hosting if we broke any rules.

  It doesn't matter who I am logged in as I am getting the following error in the mmc console when I launch the firewall advanced settings There was an error opening the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap in You do not have the correct permissions to open the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security console, You must be a member of the Administrators group or the Network Operators group to perform this task. For more information, contact your system administrator. Error code: 0x5. Ive tried processmonitor to identify what permission is being denied but no luck. If I run netsh directly I get access denied as well. This is running windows server 2008 SP2. And yes I was running as an administrator. Any ideas?

• nginx points the sub-directory of an alias folder to the base directory

  I am new to Nginx. Now I have a confusion on nginx configurations: My web site contains folders in different locations: location / { root /Path1 } location ^~ /personal { alias /Path2 } When I query http://mysite/personal, I am accessing the content of /Path2 instead of /Path1 Now I want to add a sub-directory in /personal with specific configurations, so I add: location /personal/download { autoindex on; } But I got 404 error when querying http://mysite/personal/download. According to the error log, I am directed to /Path1/personal/download, which is not correct. How can I configure nginx, such that all access to http://mysite/personal/* will be directed to the same directory in /Path2?

• Can't assign software to non-admin account

  I'm trying to deploy software on our domain using group policy, but I am only able to do so if the user is a member of a group with administrative privileges. We do not want to allow users to install programs generally, but do want to be able to assign/publish. The test program I'm using is originally a .msi file, and it installs fine for users in the administrators group. How can we assign/publish to normal users without opening up the ability to install whatever? Also, from what I've read, I believe I have correct permissions on the folder/share where the .msi files are stored. This is on Win2008R2 with Win7Pro clients.

• Practical RAID Performance?

  I've always thought the following to be a general rule of thumb for RAID: RAID 0: Best performance for READ and WRITE from stripping, greatest risk RAID 1: Redundant, decent for READ (I believe it can read from different parts of a file from different hard drives), not the best for WRITE RAID 0+1 (01): combines redundancy of RAID 1 with performance of RAID 0 RAID 1+0 (10): slightly better version of RAID 0+1 RAID 5: good READ performance, bad WRITE performance, redundant IS THIS ASSUMPTION CORRECT? (and how do they compare to a JBOD setup for R/W IO performance) Are certain practical RAID setups better for different applications: gaming, video editing, database (Acccess or SQL)? I was thinking about hard disk drives but does this apply to solid state drives as well?

  I have windows 7 home 32-bit on my desktop which is connected to my mp600 via USB. I have Vista 64-bit on my laptop. The MP600 is set for sharing and appears under printers in network under my pc's name. When I click on connect it says "The server for canon inkjet mp600 printer does not have the correct printer drivers installed........." I don't know what to do and it is really frustrating. • How is virtual machine port opening works

  I have a question regarding VM port. Say I have a Virtual Machine and a Host Machine. The opening ports on Host are 80, 22, 443 only. if I opened ports 80, 22, 443 VM it should be working. However if I opened port 21 on VM, will it work? If it works, does it mean the port 21 on Host is opened also? My understanding is that the network traffic goes from VM's virtual network adapter to Host's physical network adapter. So the ports on these 2 network adapters should match. Am I correct to say this?

  Just like the question states. Is it somehow possible to get the IP address of a network that you don't have access to? For example, if you click the little wifi button on your task bar, and highlight your cursor over one of the options, you get some info. But your external IP address is actually the address of the router, isn't it? Which would mean you would have to connect to the wifi, and then the router to get an IP address, correct?   I'm reading a book on Windows Internals and there's something I don't understand: "The kernel handles software interrupts either as part of hardware interrupt handling or synchronously when a thread invokes kernel functions related to the software interrupt." So does this mean that software interrupts or exceptions will only be handled under these conditions: a. When the kernel is executing a function from said thread related to the software exception(trap) b. when it is already handling a hardware trap Is my understanding of this correct? The next bit: "In most cases, the kernel installs front-end trap handling functions that perform general trap handling tasks before and after transferring control to other functions that field the trap." I don't quite understand what it means by 'front-end trap handling functions' and 'field the trap'? Can anyone help me?

  I'm using mongoexport to export some collections into CSV files, however when I try to target fields which are members of an array I cannot get it to export correctly. command I'm using: mongoexport -d db -c collection -fieldFile fields.txt --csv > out.csv and the contents of fields.txt is similar to id name address[0].line1 address[0].line2 address[0].city address[0].country address[0].postcode where the BSON data would be: { "id": 1, "name": "example", "address": [ { "line1": "flat 123", "line2": "123 Fake St.", "city": "London", "country": "England", "postcode": "N1 1AA" } ] } what is the correct syntax for exporting the contents of an array?

• 2D Side Scrolling game and "walk over ground" collision detection

  The question is not hard, I'm writing a game engine for 2D side scrolling games, however I'm thinking to my 2D side scrolling game and I always come up with the problem of "how should I do collision with the ground". I think I couldn't handle the collision with ground (ground for me is "where the player walk", so something heavily used) in a per-pixel way, and I can't even do it with simple shape comparison (because the ground can be tilted), so what's the correct way? I'know what tiles are and i've read about it, but how much should be big each tile to not appear like a stairs?Are there any other approach? I watched this game and is very nice how he walks on ground: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmSAQwbbig8&feature=player_embedded If there are "platforms" in mid air, how should I handle them?I can walk over them but I can't pass "inside". • Digest authentication not working: endless cycles of asking for user/pass

  I'm trying to setup my SVN repository for access remotely. In doing so I have some settings under Apache's dav_svn.conf file. When navigating to hostname/svn, or using Tortoise to do the same it prompts for the user name and password as expected. However, when entering the correct user name and pass that were set in the password file linked to under AuthUserFile it just asks for the credentials again. I think I'm probably missing something simple? The server is running Ubuntu Server 9.10. Accessing SVN remotely does currently work if the authentication lines of dav_svn.conf are commented out. These are the contents of the dav_svn.conf file: <Location /svn> DAV svn SVNPath /home/svn/repo AuthType Digest AuthName "Subversion Repository" AuthDigestDomain /svn/ AuthUserFile /etc/svn_authfile Require valid-user </Location>
