• Marshaling an array of IntPtrs in C#

  From safe, managed code in C#, I would like to call a function in a C API that receives an array of pointers (void**). I have the corresponding managed array of IntPtr objects, but the Marshal methods advertised in the documentation at MSDN do not seem sufficient to provide and IntPtr to an unmanaged block of memory with the correct content. I had hoped to obtain an IntPtr with 'Marshal.AllocHGlobal' and then assign the correct content using 'Marshal.Copy', but it seems the function has not been overloaded for an array of IntPtr. Any thoughts on the best way to do this? Thanks in advance.

  As a database architect, developer, and consultant, there are many questions that can be answered. One, though I was asked recently and still can't answer good, is... "What is one of, or some of, the best methods or techniques to keep database changes documented, organized, and yet able to roll out effectively either in a single-developer or multi-developer environment." This may involve stored procedures and other object scripts, but especially schemas - from documentation, to the new physical update scripts, to rollout, and then full-circle. There are applications to make this happen, but require schema hooks and overhead. I would rather like to know about techniques used without a lot of extra third-party involvement.

  I have an verilog based test-bench, interfaced to 'C source using DPI. Now using DPI I am planning to write my whole firmware. To do this I need 3 things Register Read Register Write Interrupt handler As I understand, register reads and writes are tasks that I need to export from the RTL test-bench. And Interrupt handler (I implemented by importing a function from 'C). I checked most the cadence documentation and found no useful hints. I have also registered with cadence users community but it seems that I cannot ask question till they approve my registration. Just in case someone is aware of this, would appreciate their help.

• NSXMLParser error code 65

  Hi guys, NSXMLParser is giving me the following error: "Error 65, Description: (null), Line: 1, Column: 47" I've checked the documentation, and it says that a space is required at column47??. Was hoping someone can help out on this? The raw xml file is as follows. • Entitiy Framework: "Update Database from Model" instead of "Generate Database from Model"

  Hey everyone, I have created a Entity Framework 4 model with Visual Studio 2010 and generated a database from it. Now I found myself adding new properties (with default values), changing documentation of columns, changing names of columns, changing types of columns several times. All tasks that do not require much "extra work" in order not to be possible to be achieved automatically (in my humble opinion). Everytime I did "Generate Database from Model" and lost of course the table data. Is there a way just to update the database's architecture so to say - leaving the table data untouched? Maybe with some user interaction especially when changing types etc.? Or would this functionality be simply too difficult to be realized to work in a reliable way? Thanks in advance! Cheers, David

  msdn: "Any public static (Shared in Visual Basic) members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe." it contains only instance methods. How should I use it in a way that all activity gets recorder by TextWriterTraceListener to a text file. Is one static member which all threads use (by calling) TraceEvent-method safe. (I've kind of asked this question in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1901086/how-to-instantiate-c-tracesources-to-log-multithreaded-asp-net-2-0-web-applica, but I cannot just believe if somebody just says it's OK despite the documentation).

• How to bind a List of a DataObject to a Grid with BindingSources?

  In an assembly I created a class like the following: [DataObject(true)] public class A { public int Foo{get;set;} [DataObjectMethod[DataObjectMethodType.Select)] public static List<A> GetAllA(string ConnectionString) { // return filled List<A> } } Now I want to display this List with a Gridcontrol under Winforms. I though of a DataGrid. Though I'm coming from ASP.net I'd first think of this.dataGridView1.DataSource = A.GetAllA(ConnectionString) Works, but I'd prefer a better databinding with BindingSources. (Because I've always heard that thats the way to go) I managed to drop a BindingSource onto the form and set the DataSource property to class A. But where can I set the SelectMethod and its parameters? If I set DataSource property of the dataGridView to the BindingSource, it will only display an empty line. Is this the right way to go? Will it only require some additional clicks in the wizard, or do I need to read tons of documentation to get this working?

• PLT Scheme Extracting field ids from structures

  I want to see if I can map PLT Scheme structure fields to columns in a DB. I've figured out how to extract accessor functions from structures in PLT scheme using the fourth return value of: (struct-type-info) However the returned procedure indexes into the struct using an integer. Is there some way that I can find out what the field names were at point of definition? Looking at the documentation it seems like this information is "forgotten" after the structure is defined and exists only via the generated-accessor functions: (<id>-<field-id> s). So I can think of two possible solutions: Search the namespace symbols for ones that start with my struct name (yuk); Define a custom define-struct macro that captures the ordered sequence of field-names inside some hash that is keyed by struct name (eek).

• Preventing referenced assembly PDB and XML files copied to output

  I have a Visual Studio 2008 C#/.NET 3.5 project with a post build task to ZIP the contents. However I'm finding that I'm also getting the referenced assemblies' .pdb (debug) and .xml (documentation) files in my output directory (and ZIP). For example, if MyProject.csproj references YourAssembly.dll and there are YourAssembly.xml and YourAssembly.pdb files in the same directory as the DLL they will show up in my output directory (and ZIP). I can exclude *.pdb when ZIP'ing but I cannot blanket exclude the *.xml files as I have deployment files with the same extension. Is there a way to prevent the project from copying referenced assembly PDB and XML files?

• Confused about this factory, as it doesn't look like an Abstract Factory nor Factory Method

  I'm looking into Guice and I've been reading its documentation recently. Reading the motivation section I don't understand the factories part, why they name it that way. To me that factory is just a wrapper for the implementing class they want it to return after calling getInstance(). public class CreditCardProcessorFactory { private static CreditCardProcessor instance; public static void setInstance(CreditCardProcessor creditCardProcessor) { instance = creditCardProcessor; } public static CreditCardProcessor getInstance() { if (instance == null) { throw new IllegalStateException("CreditCardProcessorFactory not initialized. " + "Did you forget to call CreditCardProcessor.setInstance() ?"); } return instance; } } Why do they call it factory as well if it is neither an abstract factory nor a factory method? • In windbg, how do I get a heap header address from !heap -l results?

  I am playing around with windbg's !heap command, particular the "-l" switch which detects memory leaks. When -l does detect a leak, I am having problems navigating from its results to a stack trace for the source of the leak. Here is a snippet of the results from !heap -l 0:066 !heap -l Searching the memory for potential unreachable busy blocks. But the output for !heap -l doesn't specify a header address! It's only specififying Entry, User, Heap, and Segment. I've racked my brain looking over the other commands but can't figure out how to get the header address from any of these fields. Can someone help?

• Rails fields_for :child_index option explanation

  I have been trying to create a complex form with many nested models, and make it dynamic. Now I found that making a nested model isn't difficult with accepts_nested_attributes_for, but making it nested and dynamic was seemingly impossible if there were multiple nested models. Could anyone shed some light on lines 13 and 16? 13 form_builder.object.class.reflect_on_association(method).klass.new and 16 form_builder.fields_for(method, options[:object], :child_index => "new_#{method}") do |f| From intuition, line 13 instantiates a new object, but why must it do so many method calls? I couldn't find any documentation for the :child_index option on line 16. When the form is created, a very large number is used as an index for new models, whereas existing models are indexed by their id. How does this work?

• How do I write a custom validator for a zend form element with customized error messages?

  I have a question field with a list of allowed characters : A-Z,0-9,colon (:), question mark (?), comma(,), hyphen(-), apostrophe ('). I have the regex which works fine, in the fashion : $question->addValidator('regex', true, array(<regular expresstion>)) The default error message is something like ''' does not match against pattern '' I want to write a custom error message that says ' is not allowed in this field' Is there a simple way to do it using the existing zend components that I'm missing? Is writing a custom validator the only way to achieve what I'm trying to achieve? If yes, how do I write a custom validator (I looked at the documentation and didn't quite understand how I can customize the error messages) If there is any other way, I'd most appreciate that input too. This map is similar to the one that can be sent to the .css() method, except that the range of properties is more restrictive. So, why does this work $('#con div').css( { top : function(i) { console.log(i); return (i * 500) + 'px'; } } ); and this doesn't? $('#con div').animate( { top : function(i) { console.log(i); return (i * 500) + 'px'; } } ); The console shows that the function is being evaluated for css, but not for animate. Am I missing something? By the way, I'm using 1.4.2.

I have a group project for a Digital Logic course that is due soon, where my partner, who was supposed to take care of the Xilinx simulations decided to bail on me. So here I am trying to figure it out last minute. I have designed a synchronous counter using a few JK Flip Flops and I need to define the CLK input for the FJKCs. I have drawn up the correct schematic, but I cannot figure out how to define a clock input. Any help appreciated, and yes, this is homework. • Why can't I set a custom color-tint for the UINavigationBar?

  I want to change the color on the navigation bar and the documentation states not to attempt to change the 'alpha' value. So, how can I set a color that is not the SDK defined values (e.g., [UIColor redColor], brownColor, etc.) if all the constructors provide an alpha value? I tried getting the current alpha value but that did not help. When I use a custom color, it causes the navigation bar to look like an x-ray (a scraggy, black-on-white). • Why does Maven have such a bad rep?

  There is a lot of talk on the internet about how Maven is bad. I have been using some features of Maven for a few years now and the most important benefit in my view is the dependency management. Maven documentation is less than adequate, but generally when I need to accomplish something I figure it once and than it works (for example, I remember when I implemented signing the jars.) I don’t think that Maven is great, but it does solve some problems that without it would be a genuine pain. So, why does Maven has such a bad rep and what problems with Maven can I expect in the future? Maybe there are much better alternatives that I don't know about? (For example, I never looked Ivy in detail.) NOTE: This is not an attempt to cause an argument. It is an attempt to clear the FUD.
