  For years, I’ve been using the “Remote Desktops” mmc plugin to manage servers in our infrastructure.  I’ve upgraded to Windows 8 and Remote Desktops is nowhere to be found!  I search and searched and came across a forum listing saying “Why don’t you just use Remove Desktop Connection Manager?” I downloaded it and started using it and its WAY better than Remote Desktops!  I’m glad they took it out and I discovered this tool.  I wish I had discovered this two years ago! • Is there a buffer size attached to stdout?

  I am trying to find some information on data limits related to stdout on Windows. I can't seem to find the information on MSDN. Is there a limit to how much data can be written to stdout? If so, what happens if the limit is reached? Is the data lost? If stdout is redirected (for example, by launching the process from .Net and using the ProcessStartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput property), does that have any effect on how much data can be written? As I read from the stdout stream in the calling process, does that affect the limitations? Are these limits related in any way to named pipes?

  Looking for a simple, clean and easy to use personal/career objectives tracker for my team of ~10 developers something like what remember the milk is for tasks. At the moment I track these in a google doc, but ideally like a system where I can browse the teams objectives, add a team objective and it automatically appear on members personal objectives. Also where team members can add/manage their own objectives, browse colleges public/team objectives. Ideally it would also have option for people to add personal out side of work objectives for personal dev projects. • Cann't find shared folder anymore

  I use VMware Fusion under Mac, and I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7 as virtual machine. Under Ubuntu, by "shared folder", I used to manage a common folder with Mac via /mnt/hgfs/myfolder. Under Windows, I have set up so that this folder is also accessible. But today I cann't find myfolder anymore under /mnt/hgfs in Ubuntu, while it is still accessible via Windows (and Mac of cause). I tried to restart the machine, reset the sharing settings, it still does not work. Could anyone help?

• Good practices when writing a parser for a standard file format (such as ePub)

  I am considering writing an Android reader software that can read ePubs and display them. I checked the ePub standard documents. However, these contain a lot of information. So I am wondering what is the process of implementing a standard for a file format. What are the steps to get a working implementation without passing by parts of the standard? Are there any best practices? Also, is it even possible to program this alone in a reasonable time? From what I have already found out, ePub is basically a zip archive. That means I could probably use zlib to decompress it. The content is in XHTML and CSS, so I believe it should be possible to display it in a WebView. The parts that are missing are writing the code that can read the metadata and manage the non-standard XHTML extensions.

  i have to write a program that sniffs network packets (part1-the simple part). and i have to update the program (part2) so that it will be able to terminate connections. the specific requirements are: construct raw packets by specifying data link layer and network layer information including appropriate source and destination MAC and IP addresses. These packets are intended to terminate the connection. To do so, you should used SOCK_RAW as the socket type to be able to set the header information by yourself. can anybody give me some ideas on the second part? should i hijack the session,apply a dos attack on one of the users?? all i need is some tips of how to terminate the connection. i am using c programming language. and this is a course assignment for the security course.

• Script.PostDeployment.sql not executing in CI build VS 2010

  I have a database project in VS 2010 (SQL 2008). The local Deploy Solution action works and executes all of the SQL in the Script.PostDeployment.sql file. When I check changes in, the Build Definition for the continuous integration server executes. The database is deployed into the CI environment, but the PostDeployment script doesn't get executed. I wasn't able to find anything specific to this particular scenario. I also expect I'll need to provide additional information unless this is a trivial problem that I missed somewhere. Additional Information: The build is executing vsdbcmd.exe to deploy. The deployment manifest references the PostDeployment.sql file and it's present in the path with the rest of the files. • How can I link to callback functions in Lua such that the callbacks will be updated when the scripts are reloaded?

  I'm implementing Lua scripting in my game using LuaBind, and one of the things I'm not clear on is the logistics of reloading the scripts live ingame. Currently, using the LuaBind C++ class luabind::object, I save references to Lua callbacks directly in the classes that use them. Then I can use luabind::call_function using that object in order to call the Lua code from the C++ code. I haven't tested this yet, but my assumption is that if I reload the scripts, then all the functions will be redefined, BUT the references to the OLD functions will still exist in the form of the luabind::object held by the C++ code. I would like to be able to swap out the old for the new without manually having to manage this for every script hook in the game. How best to change this so the process works? My first thought is to not save a reference to the function directly, but maybe save the function name instead, and grab the function by name every time we want to call it. I'm looking for better ideas!

• Do Nvidia's drivers work in 12.10?

  I recently upgraded to 12.10 and was just checking for proprietary drivers to be installed. I found this in software sources When I enabled Nvidia binary Xorg driver, unity disappears along with the launcher and everything. I just have the wallpaper. I did manage to open the terminal and open software sources and select the nouveau display driver which fixed it. Question is how to enable NVIDIA binary Xorg driver and have everything working? Hardware: Apple MacBook Pro 9,1 Mid 2012 15 inch non-retina. NVIDIA GeForce GT650M EDIT: I tried the solution here. And now, when I boot into Ubuntu, I get a blinking cursor. That's all! No tty1, nothing. help !!

• Some help understanding and modifying a 2D shader

  I have a similar question as the one posed here, except that I don't wish to use a 1D Color Palette. I simply wish to have it display 1 color of my choosing (red, for example). I plan to use this as a "shield" effect for a 2D ship. I also wish to understand how it works a little bit better, as I'll be the first to admit that shaders in general are not my strongest suit. I'm not asking for an overview of HLSL (as that is too broad of a subject), just an explanation of how this shader works, and the best way to implement it in a 2D game. Code examples would be ideal (even if they are theoretical) but if the answer is explained well enough, I might be able to manage with plain old text. This is also in XNA 4.0. Thanks in advance.

  Good day everyone! This is my first post on this site ^_^ My question is: What are my options if I need a Web 2.0 gallery software that work in a very similar manner to this removed web site. Essentially: users can create account, then create and manage their own galleries. And all other users and guests can see these galleries, add tags, comments, etc. Basically a community driven gallery web site. When it comes to "normal" cms I know a lot of good options, but I never worked with any gallery management software... If you can suggest me some good solutions (free) it would be great! Also: If you by any chance know what software is used at this removed website it would be even better, because this solution suits me the best and I would have used this engine, but I cant find any information on what this engine is and if it is even public, or privately developed thing. There are many reasons that a parallel process can fail during orte_init; some of which are due to configuration or environment problems. Can anyone help me? Upd2: Error code -2147024891 might be WMI error WBEM_E_INVALID_PARAMETER (0x80041008) which occures when one of the parameters passed to the WMI call is not correct. Does this mean that the problem is in OpenMPI source code itself? Or maybe it's because of wrong/outdated wincred.h and credui.lib I used while building OpenMPI from the source code?

  I'm actually trying GateIn for my firm and I don't manage to integrate OpenAM and GateIn. I follow all the steps in the GateInReference Guide but I've a problem. The scenarii of the problem is : Go to localhost:8080/portal Click sur Administrator I'm redirected to : openam.vauban.com:2080/openam_s952/UI/Login?realm=gatein&goto=http://localhost:8080/portal/private/classic I filled in the form with root / gtn I'm redirected to localhost:8080/portal/private/classic and the page is blank and the main fact is : The system seems to redirect me to this page infinitely.. Does Someone know an issue for this infinite loop? For information, I configured my OpenAM : Yo encode the cookies, use c66encode.

• Does SQL Server 2005 error message numbers back to the asp.net application?

  I'd like to get the message number and severity level information from SQL Server upon execution of an erroneous query. For example, when a user attempts to delete a row being referenced by another record, and the cascade relationship is "no action", I'd like the application to be able to check for error message 547 ("The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint...") and return a user friendly and localized message to the user. When running such a query directly on SQL Server, the following message is printed: Msg 547, Level 16, State 0, Line 1 <Error message...> In an Asp.Net app is this information available in an event handler parameter or elsewhere? Also, I don't suppose anyone knows where I can find a definitive reference of SQL Server message numbers?
