  • Data Model Evolution

    Hey guys, When writing code I am seeing requirements to change data models (e.g. adding/changing/removing data members from a class). When these data models belong to an interface, it seems difficult to change without breaking the existing client codes. So I am wondering if there is any best practice of designing interfaces/data models in a way to minimize the impact during evolution. The closest thing I can find from google is data contract versioning. But that seems to be a .net specific topic. I am wondering if the same practice applies to the Java world, or there is a different or generic way to deal with data model evolution. Thanks

One of my friend write an IDE for java,as I remember he use javac to generate the codes error,in other hand maybe u see when u try to write code in a Visual stadio or Netbean the IDE generate errors for u.so now I want to know any one have any idea how I can do it for my sql files?     I am trying to extend the User model so that I can add my own custom fields but I keep getting an error stating: 'NoneType' object has no attribute '_default_manager' whenever I try to use user.get_profile() to add values to the custom field i.e. whenever I use it like so: user = User.objects.create_user(username, email, password) user.first_name = fname user.last_name = lname user.save() uinfo = user.get_profile() uinfo.timezone = "Asia/Pune" uinfo.save() I have already followed the steps given at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/44109/extending-the-user-model-with-custom-fields-in-django/965883#965883 with no luck.

    Hi all, Using jQuery validation plugin, how can I configure it so that I have the error labels appear beside the input fields, and also inside a validation summary? I can make them either display besides the input fields OR inside a validation summary, but not in both. I'd like to have the error messages duplicated (one for the input field and another for the validation summary). Is it possible? If yes, how? Thanks

    Just tired to see this error every time for years only in ONE project: "Cannot evaluate expression because a thread is stopped at a point where garbage collection is impossible, possibly because the code is optimized" Almost every property or field displays this message. From vs2005+.net2.0 to vs2008+.net3.5 now. Does anybody know how to fix it?

    I have Muttiple sequence alignment (clustal) file and i want to read this file and arrange sequences in a such a way that in looks more clear and precise in order. I am doing this from biopython using AlignIO object.     Hey guys, I am grabbing a JSON array and storing it in a NSArray, however it includes JSON encoded UTF-8 strings, for example pass\u00e9 represents passé. I need a way of converting all of these different types of strings into the actual character. I have an entire NSArray to convert. Or I can convert it when it is being displayed, which ever is easiest.   • Mapping US zip code to time zone

    When users register with our app, we are able to infer their zip code when we validate them against a national database. What would be the best way to determine a good potential guess of their time zone from this zip code? We are trying to minimize the amount of data we explicitly have to ask them for. They will be able to manually set the time zone later if our best guess is wrong. I realize zip codes won't help with figuring out the time zone outside the US, but in that case we'd have to manually ask anyway, and we deal predominantly with the US regardless. I've found a lot of zip code databases, and so far only a few contain time zone information, but those that do are not free, such as this one. If it's absolutely necessary to pay a subscription to a service in order to do this, then it will not be worth it and we will just have to ask users explicitly. Although language isn't particularly relevant as I can probably convert things however needed, we're using PHP and MySQL.

The values, which are stored in JQrelcopy has to be saved in some other table. Now the problem is I want to give AJAX validation like the field cannot be blank, Only alphabetical characters are allowed for the fields which are inserted through JQrelcopy. I thought about creating a scenario, but I can't get it right
