  I read about many CSS related languages and tools which need ruby. What is the purpose of these languages and tool how these can save time and improve our CSS coding. What is the role in ruby language in these languages and tool. Will i have to install and learn ruby language to use these languages and tool. will i need ruby installed on webserver where website will be hosted. • Level designing with Cocos2d and Box2d

  I want to learn how to make levels using cocos2d and box2d (for iOS). I am talking about a 2d platformer such as Limbo or Braid or something like that. How can I design and build levels like this? I have seen Level Helper for cocos2d but its not free and I don't think it makes physic objects for box2d. How is this accomplished in real games? How to make camera move with character and so on. Any starting points would be much appreciated.

  Hi. I'm trying to select all elements that have a class, get their ID's (if they have one), and append individual spans to the end of my document based on that information. This is as far as I've managed to get: var element = $(".foo"), element_id = element.attr("id"), span_id = "for-" + element + "-id-" + element_id, ; I am hoping to append a span for each element gathered. Here are some examples of the span format I wish to achieve: <span id="for-img-id-profile"></span> <span id="for-div-id-content"></span> If possible, I would also like to allow for elements without an ID to be formatted like so: <span id="for-h1"></span> I really appreciate the help as I'm very new to jQuery and am trying to learn.

• Styled Javascript Popup that Conncects to Database

  I want to create a javascript popup box that contains text fields. I want to be able to style this box - using CSS - and I want the textfield entries to be Inserted into a MySQL database. Is this possible? I would be familiar with doing this through web forms and server side scripting but I need it to be a bit more client side this time to make things seem a bit faster. I am thinking I may need to learn some AJAX but any pointers would be a help. GF

  Why would a 'public event EventHandler cccc' be null? I have a class that's public class Builder { public event EventHandler StartedWorking; public Builder() { // Constructor does some stuff } public void Start() { StartedWorking(this, eventargobject); //StartedWorking is null -- } } This seems straightforward and something I do all the time? Am I missing something obvious or is there something that could cause this? EDIT: Does this mean that if I fire an event that is not subscribed to in a client class I have to check that it is not null? EDIT-2: I guess I'd never had events that were never not subscribed to and hence never ran into this -- You learn something new every day Sorry about the seemingly stupid question....

My job and personal experience covers many project-specific Swing client frameworks as well as the Eclipse RCP, and every one of them had some original and clever concepts, but also drawbacks and rigid realizations. My plan is to incorporate the best of those concepts and features into a new framework whose core is very open and extendable. For my must-have-features list, I'm counting on your input and hope you can share some concept pearls & diamonds you've encountered in other frameworks, or features you always wanted to have or have in a better way. The framework is intended for very simple to very complex and sophisticated projects for clients that need full i18n for richt clients that execute some or all of the non-presentation logic on the server to be very lightweight to be easy to learn and use Thanks in advance for sharing your insights :)

Now I am shifting to web programming so I just stuck in understanding the fundamentals of web programming, after googling I came to StackOverflow to learn from all of you great guys. My confusion is about how messages flow between systems in distributed enviornment ? I mean suppose I want to send a message "Hello" to a system connected to LAN or Internet, then what will be the steps taken to send the message. Second thing is suppose my system is "A" and I wana send message to system "B" which is connected via a wire, so how the message flows on wire and how system "B" reads it from the wire ? • What did I do wrong here when trying to unit test a class that references a web service

  So I had a class that referenced a class that referenced another class that called a web service. So I learn how to create an interface using partial classes. I inject the web service through the constructor. Then my unit test fails because I am newing up the actual web service in the second level of the class. So I end up modifying all three classes to pass the web service down through the constructor... was not happy :-( gave up.... what should I be doing in this case?

  I am currently architecting a small CRUD applicaton. Their database is a huge mess and will be changing frequently over the course of the next 6 months to a year. What would you recommend for my data layer: 1) ORM (if so, which one?) 2) Linq2Sql 3) Stored Procedures 4) Parametrized Queries I really need a solution that will be dynamic enough (both fast and easy) where I can replace tables and add/delete columns frequently. Note: I do not have much experience with ORM (only a little SubSonic) and generally tend to use stored procedures so maybe that would be the way to go. I would love to learn Ling2Sql or NHibernate if either would allow for the situation I've described above.

  I am trying to learn python and couldn't figure out how to translate the following perl script to python: #!/usr/bin/perl -w use open qw(:std :utf8); while(<>) { s/\x{00E4}/ae/; s/\x{00F6}/oe/; s/\x{00FC}/ue/; print; } The script just changes unicode umlauts to alternative ascii output.   Hi guys, I have a website that has around 10 pages. Only one of those pages uses Zend (to integrate with Google gData). Right now, it's just all coded into that one page, but I'm wanting to learn how to use Zend Framework. How do you handle basic-relatively static php pages within Zend Framework? Do you just stick the whole individual pages into their own respective views and then have to common stuff in the layout, and not worry about a model and controller for those pages? in general, is MVC accepted and appropriate technology for general "web-design" work?

  The sensor module in my project consists of a rotating camera, that collects noisy information about moving objects in the surrounding environment. The information consists of distance, angle and relative change of the moving objects.. The limiting view range of the camera makes it essential to rotate the camera periodically to update environment information... I was looking for algorithms / ways to model these information, in order to be able to guess / predict / learn motion properties of these object.. My current proposed idea is to store last n snapshots of each object in a queue. I take weighted average of positions and velocities of moving object, but I think it is a poor method... • Two Column Theme, Help, to make both columns seperately Scrollable.

  Hey, I am not sure what to do on this one, I'm not a programmer, but trying to learn CSS as this is how the theme I am using was coded in. I've gotten quite far on my own, but this one stumps me Its two column Theme... As far as I have been able to get, I can use the following: #left { width: 235px; padding: 10px; margin-left: 20px; position: fixed; line-height: 15px; If I change the position to Absolute, The whole page scrolls, If I leave it at Fixed, and add lets say, a Twitter feed, or other type of text that takes me past its reading where you would normally scroll, Its just cut off, cannot get to it, hightlight or scroll.. I've also toyed with the idea, of changing the theme to a 3 column theme, but Again, not a programmer, and i'd be really confused. anyhelp would be great...   So I had this structure in xml and I was able to parse it successfully. Now what I have done is that I converted this xml into a JSON using www.xmltojson.org but I am not able to parse it . • wxPython formatting questions

  I have an app I was working on to learn more about wxPython( I have been primarily been a scripter ). I forgot about it now I am opening it back up. It's a screen scraper, and I have it working almost the way I want it, going to build a regex parser to strip out the links in every scrape that I don't need. The questions I have are this. In it current state, if I check more than one site, it goes out and scrapes, and returns it in separate windows, the for:each section in the Clicked function. I want to put them in a frame, in the window, altogether. I also want to know if I can take the list they are read into and send it to a checklist, so someone could check off separate items, I want to build a save function and keep certain ones. In regards to a save function, I want to keep saved checks, are there calls to the widgets to save their states? I know it's a lot, but thanks for the help.

  Given this MSDN article, we learn that the Common Type System in .Net has this classification of reference types: "Reference types can be self-describing types, pointer types, or interface types. The type of a reference type can be determined from values of self-describing types. Self-describing types are further split into arrays and class types." So an array, for instance, is a self-describing type because we can determine it's type from its values? How? Is that it, or is there more to this definition?

• Storing data with a stand-alone C++ application

  I work with Apache, PHP, and MySQL for web development and local applications. For the past couple of years I have slowly been learning C++ and want to build an application this summer. Specifically, I want to make a "library" application in which I can store information about the books, CDs, and records that I own. I know this type of app exists, but I want to learn C++ and this seems like a good way to go about it. Here are a few questions: Is it possible to create a stand-alone application that does not require a database for storing data? If the answer to #1 above is "yes", is it a good idea to do this for an application that could potentially need to manage a lot of data? What data-storage options would you recommend for use with a C++ application? Thanks!
