• T-SQL: How to make a positive value turn into the equivalent negative value (e.g "10.00" to "-10.00"

  Ok so i have a DECIMAL field called "Score". (e.g 10.00) Now, in my SP, i want to increment/decrement the value of this field in update transactions. So i might want to do this: SET @NewScore = @CurrentScore + @Points Where @Points is the value im going to increment/decrement. Now lets say @Points = 10.00. In a certain scenario, i want 10.00 to become -10.00 So the statement would be translated to: SET @NewScore = @CurrentScore + -10.00 How can i do that? I know its a strange question, but basically i want that statement to be dynamic, in that i dont want to have a different statement for incrementing/decrementing the value. I just want something like this: SET @Points = 10.00 IF @ActivityBeingPerformedIsFoo BEGIN -- SET @Points to be equivalent negative value, (e.g -10.00) END SET @NewScore = @CurrentScore + @Points

  Whats the most efficient way to lower case every element of a list or set? My idea for a List: final List<String> strings = new ArrayList<String>(); strings.add("HELLO"); strings.add("WORLD"); for(int i=0,l=strings.size();i<l;++i) { strings.add(strings.remove(0).toLowerCase()); } is there a better, faster way? How would this exmaple look like for a set? As there is currently no method for applying an operation to each element of a set (or list) can it be done without creating an additional temporary set? • Data Source Security Part 1

  I’ve written a couple of articles on how to store data source security credentials using the Oracle wallet.  I plan to write a few articles on the various types of security available to WebLogic Server (WLS) data sources.  There are more options than you might think! There have been several enhancements in this area in WLS 10.3.6.  There are a couple of more enhancements planned for release WLS 12.1.2 that I will include here for completeness.  This isn’t intended as a teaser.  If you call your Oracle support person, you can get them now as minor patches to WLS 10.3.6.   The current security documentation is scattered in a few places, has a few incorrect statements, and is missing a few topics.  It also seems that the knowledge of how to apply some of these features isn’t written down.  The goal of these articles is to talk about WLS data source security in a unified way and to introduce some approaches to using the available features.  Introduction to WebLogic Data Source Security Options By default, you define a single database user and password for a data source.  You can store it in the data source descriptor or make use of the Oracle wallet.  This is a very simple and efficient approach to security.  All of the connections in the connection pool are owned by this user and there is no special processing when a connection is given out.  That is, it’s a homogeneous connection pool and any request can get any connection from a security perspective (there are other aspects like affinity).  Regardless of the end user of the application, all connections in the pool use the same security credentials to access the DBMS.   No additional information is needed when you get a connection because it’s all available from the data source descriptor (or wallet). java.sql.Connection conn =  mydatasource.getConnection(); Note: You can enter the password as a name-value pair in the Properties field (this not permitted for production environments) or you can enter it in the Password field of the data source descriptor. The value in the Password field overrides any password value defined in the Properties passed to the JDBC Driver when creating physical database connections. It is recommended that you use the Password attribute in place of the password property in the properties string because the Password value is encrypted in the configuration file (stored as the password-encrypted attribute in the jdbc-driver-params tag in the module file) and is hidden in the administration console.  The Properties and Password fields are located on the administration console Data Source creation wizard or Data Source Configuration tab. The JDBC API can also be used to programmatically specify a database user name and password as in the following.  java.sql.Connection conn = mydatasource.getConnection(“user”, “password”); According to the JDBC specification, it’s supposed to take a database user and associated password but different vendors implement this differently.  WLS, by default, treats this as an application server user and password.  The pair is authenticated to see if it’s a valid user and that user is used for WLS security permission checks.  By default, the user is then mapped to a database user and password using the data source credential mapper, so this API sort of follows the specification but database credentials are one-step removed from the application code.  More details and the rationale are described later. While the default approach is simple, it does mean that only one database user is doing all of the work.  You can’t figure out who actually did the update and you can’t restrict SQL operations by who is running the operation, at least at the database level.   Any type of per-user logic will need to be in the application code instead of having the database do it.  There are various WLS data source features that can be configured to provide some per-user information about the operations to the database. WebLogic Data Source Security Options This table describes the features available for WebLogic data sources to configure database security credentials and a brief description.  It also captures information about the compatibility of these features with one another. Feature Description Can be used with Can’t be used with User authentication (default) Default getConnection(user, password) behavior – validate the input and use the user/password in the descriptor. Set client identifier Proxy Session, Identity pooling, Use database credentials Use database credentials Instead of using the credential mapper, use the supplied user and password directly. Set client identifier, Proxy session, Identity pooling User authentication, Multi Data Source Set Client Identifier Set a client identifier property associated with the connection (Oracle and DB2 only). Everything Proxy Session Set a light-weight proxy user associated with the connection (Oracle-only). Set client identifier, Use database credentials Identity pooling, User authentication Identity pooling Heterogeneous pool of connections owned by specified users. Set client identifier, Use database credentials Proxy session, User authentication, Labeling, Multi-datasource, Active GridLink Note that all of these features are available with both XA and non-XA drivers. Currently, the Proxy Session and Use Database Credentials options are on the Oracle tab of the Data Source Configuration tab of the administration console (even though the Use Database Credentials feature is not just for Oracle databases – oops).  The rest of the features are on the Identity tab of the Data Source Configuration tab in the administration console (plan on seeing them all in one place in the future). The subsequent articles will describe these features in more detail.  Keep referring back to this table to see the big picture.

  This is my script - it simply looks for the image file associated to a person record. Now the error will display if there is NO .jpg evident when the query runs. Msg 4860, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot bulk load. The file "C:\Dev\ClientServices\Defence\RAN\Shore\Config\Photos\002054.2009469432270600.001.jpg" does not exist. Is there a way to write this query to 'IF not exists then set id_number = '002054.2009469432270427.001' - so it wil always display this photo for any records without a picture. • Calculating percentiles in Excel with "buckets" data instead of the data list itself

  I have a bunch of data in Excel that I need to get certain percentile information from. The problem is that instead of having the data set made up of each value, I instead have info on the number of or "bucket" data. For example, imagine that my actual data set looks like this: 1,1,2,2,2,2,3,3,4,4,4 The data set that I have is this: Value No. of occurrences 1 2 2 4 3 2 4 3 Is there an easy way for me to calculate percentile information (as well as the median) without having to explode the summary data out to full data set? (Once I did that, I know that I could just use the Percentile(A1:A5, p) function) This is important because my data set is very large. If I exploded the data out, I would have hundreds of thousands of rows and I would have to do it for a couple of hundred data sets. Help!

• Setting Focus with ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit

  I'm using the AutoComplete control from the ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit and I'm experiencing an issue where the AutoComplete does not populate when I set the focus to the assigned textbox. I've tried setting the focus in the Page_Load, Page_PreRender, and Page_Init events and the focus is set properly but the AutoComplete does not work. If I don't set the focus, everything works fine but I'd like to set it so the users don't have that extra click. Is there a special place I need to set the focus or something else I need to do to make this work? Thanks.

• Conditionally setting the font color of an item in a drop down box in JSF

  I'm a newbie to web programming, so please bear with me. I am using JSF 1.2 and I want to conditionally set the color of the items in my drop down list. In other words, I have a collection of items that, along with a key and a value, also have a boolean property, warning, that is dynamically set by user action. I want the drop down to show all of the items, but those whose warning property is set to true should be displayed in red. I assume I have to extend the SelectItem class to add in the boolean property. How do I then conditionally set the color of the font of those items whose warning property is set to true in my JSP pages? Thanks in advance

• MySQL update query, how to skip empty values?

  I've got such query: $sql = "UPDATE test_accs SET acc_owner = '$owner_id', acc_policy_version = '$version', acc_policy_last_update = '$approved', acc_policy_next_update = '$renewed' WHERE acc_id = '1'"; Now, all of these values on the web folmular are optional, one can set one of these values, two, or so. Now, after I submit the form, it goes in the query like that: UPDATE test_accs SET acc_owner = '2', acc_policy_version = '1.2', acc_policy_last_update = '2012-12-19', acc_policy_next_update = '2012-12-18' WHERE acc_id = '1' It works only when I submit all values from the form. Can you please show me how could it work even if not all the values has been sent, just for example one of them? When I set one value (f.ex. policy version), it looks like that: UPDATE test_accs SET acc_owner = '', acc_policy_version = '1.2', acc_policy_last_update = '', acc_policy_next_update = '' WHERE acc_id = '1' and it isn't working. It might be possible cause of the acc_owner table values? #1366 - Incorrect integer value: '' for column 'acc_owner' at row 1 Thanks in advice.

• Problems deploying Sinatra app to staging environment

  I have a small Sinatra app with both a staging and production environment on a single server with running Nginx. To deploy I am using Capistrano and capistrano-ext to easily deploy to different locations. The problem that the staging environment always runs with the production configuration specified within the app.rb file. configure :staging do # staging settings set :foo, "bar" end configure :production do # prod settings set :foo, "rab" end I have come to the conclusion that the capistrano :environment variable within the deploy.rb file doesn't config Sinatra in any way.   I have created a VBScript which pulls the service tag, username, and computer name from a computer. What I need to do now is compile this information in a text document.   Hi, I'm having a VARIANT with its type set to VT_R8. Subsequently I need to change its type to VT_BSTR. I would like know whether there is a way of resetting a VARIANT status. Thus, I noticed that every time I set value to the VARIANT (in my case, its double) , VARIANT itself set its bstrVal member to a bad pointer, even though I set bstrVal member to NULL at the initialization of VARIANT. Why such thing is happening ? Is it safe to use a VARIANT as structure where both dbVal and bstrVal member are set ? Please clarify, thank you.

  I have a column using a BIT type (1/0). I have some records are set to 1 and some are set to 0. Those are record flag needs to be reversed. So basically, I want all records with 1 set 0, and all records with 0 set to 1. If I run "Update Table1 Set Flag = 1 Where Flag = 0" first, then I am afraid all record flags will be 1 now, and will not able to know which ones are flag = 0. any suggestions, Thanks!

• Can I get.seed() somehow?

  In reference to the statement set.seed(), can I get the seed instead after running some code if I didn't set it explicitly? I've been re-running some code containing a function that randomises some sample of the input data (the function is part of the kohonen package). After playing with it for some time to see the variety of output (it was an 'unstable' problem), I noticed one result that was pretty interesting. I of course had not used set.seed(), but wondered if I could get the seed after running the code to reproduce the result? In ?set.seed I see .Random.seed saves the seed set for the uniform random-number generator But I don't know how that helps.

  I have a couple questions about glTexParameter and filtering 1) What is the scope when applying a glTexParameter (specifically the filtering)? Here's a scenario: Bind a texture. Set the filters to LINEAR Set the texture to "Sampler1" of a shader Bind another texture. Set its filters to NEAREST Set that texture to "Sampler2" of a shader Draw When I use the textures in a shader, will one be linear and the other be nearest? • Extra line breaks inserted in MrEd text%

  In a DrScheme project, I'm using a MrEd editor-canvas% with text% and inserting a string from a literal in a Scheme file. This results in an extra blank line in the editor for each line of text I'm trying to insert. Is this a Windows vs. Unix linebreak problem?
