  • Cookie Settings Storage Method

    I've got an web app that needs to store some non-sensitive preferences for the user. Right now I'm storing their language preference and what mode they want a window opened in by default in two cookies: "lang" can be "en" or "de" "mode" can be "design" or "view" I might add a few more in the future. I'm not sure how many, but probably never more than a dozen. Language is parsed on every request, whereas the mode cookie is only used occasionally. I saw a recommendation that made sense I shouldn't try to do what I was originally planning to do and strongly type a user settings class deserialized on each request because of the overhead involved. I see three options here and I'm not sure which is the best overall. Keep things as they are, add a new cookie for each new setting Combine the cookies into a single settings cookie and add future values to it Change the mode cookie to settings (leaving language alone), add new user settings values to the settings cookie All would work obviously. I'm leaning toward option three, but I'm not sure if there's a best practice for this?

  • Server.transfer causing HttpException

    I am developing a C#/SQL ASP.NET web application in VS 2008. Currently I am using the Server.Transfer method to transfer control from one ASPX.CS file to another ASPX file. The first time through, this works. But after control is transferred to this new file it encounters a condition: if (restart == false) { where "restart" is a boolean variable. After this statement it immediately transfers control back to the same ASPX.CS file and tries to reexecute the Server.Transfer method. This time it gives me the following exception and stack trace. Do you know what is causing this? I tried to read this but it didn't make much sense to me.     Proprietary Nvidia (290) on gentoo here. I'm running Nvidia TwinView with two 1680x1050 monitors here. Now I want to hotplug between HDTV and one of the monitors. Almost good, but since Nvidia reads the EDID information of the monitors and sees the maximum resolution of 1680x1050, it won't allow 1920x1080. "Detect displays" of nvidia-settings doesn't do anything. My only option this far is to restart X, but this is highly unpreferable. I already discovered that something towards my liking can be done with MetaModes, but it doesn't allow larger resolutions either. I guess I have to drop the EDID information and specify modes manually. However, TwinView hasn't liked my offerings thus far.     Some old games look really jagged nowadays on large displays without any anti-aliasing, but don't have any option built-in to the game to enable it. On a PC with an NVIDIA graphics card, it's possible to force anti-aliasing in the NVIDIA control panel which can really improve this. But I'm playing the game in Parallels on a Mac, and although the Mac has an NVIDIA graphics card, it's Parallels' emulated card that Windows sees and so obviously there's no NVIDIA control panel. Is there some generic way I can force anti-aliasing for a Direct3D game without using the NVIDIA control panel?

  • Can I use an nVidia Geforce 9600GT for triple-monitor?

    My work PC has (as you can guess from the title) a single Geforce 9600GT card. According to the spec page for this card, both DVI ports are Dual-Link DVI. Both are currently in use on Dell 19" 1280x1024 screens. I'm running Windows 7, with Aero enabled, for what that's worth. What I'm wondering is if I can use a standard DVI splitter cable to drive a third screen from one of the ports -- specifically a Samsung 22" 1680x1050. I'm really outgrowing the two-screen setup, and am strongly considering bringing in my home monitor (which is almost never used) to bolster my usable space. If I can't, then my alternative is to replace one of these Dells with that Samsung, to give me at least a "little" more space. (Before you ask, there's probably no chance I can get my company to spring for a second video card and third monitor. Even if I could, it would not be politically expedient, as a number of my other coworkers are already pretty jealous at my setup.)

  • Can Autodesk Flame run with an nVidia Quadro FX3800 SDI and output to preview through SDI???

    I am running on Linux RHEL 4.3, DKU 5.0.1. Everything seems to be ok on the xorg.conf and init.cfg, but when I start my projects and Flame enables output to preview I start having preview on my SDI monitor and stop seeing on my main monitor (which is connected to the DisplayPort). Could it be posible that Flame needs Quadro FX4x00/5x00 series with dual DVI to output both monitors?? Cause the FX3800 has only one DVi (which is connected to the SDI card) and 2 DisplayPorts as additional output monitors. Anyone knows a config or workaround this problem?? Thanks ahead!!!

    I'm trying to run from the live USB to install Ubuntu 13.10 on my Windows Machine (as I've grown a touch sick of Windows). However, whenever I boot into the LiveUSB session after a few moments the Unity desktop locks up (except the mouse pointer, which I can move). Is this something to do with the fact I've got an NVidia 580 GTX? I've heard of issues with Ubuntu and this card. I've also got an SSD, but given that it's booting from USB I shouldn't think that's an issue.     Original Question: After I replaced my Ubuntu 10.10 with 11.04 all I get when I Strg+Alt+F1-6 into a tty is a black screen. Also when I boot there's a while of black screen after grub2 menu is displayed. Then until just before gnome starts it stays black. I have an Nvida Geforce Quadro FX 770M on my HP EliteBook 8530w. How do I get my ttys (aka 'virtual terminals') to work again? My effords in chronological order: So grub and gfx-payload seems to be the problem, I figured. I went along with this guide for higher tty resolution. Which led to the grub2 menu displaying in my native resolution rather than 800x600. The black screen problem remains. I googlehit some bugreports on other nvidia crads having that problem. I tried uninstalling the nvidia driver. No effect. Also tried different resolutions With an older version of the kernel it works. Though not perfectly. The ttys are usable, black screen between grub2 menu and gnome start remains. Not really a solution. Tried so much, that I lost track. Reinstalled grub2 and linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic. Then did this to my /etc/default/grub in accordance with the aforementioned guide (/etc/grub.d/00_header edited as well): GRUB_DEFAULT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT=3 GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` #GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" GRUB_GFXMODE=1680x1050x32 To my surprise I can now use my ttys in native resolution.     I have all time this issue when using Ubuntus, the fan (fans?) runs most off the time and between 60%~100% even in idle which is weird. The GPU temperatures are mostly around 80 degrees and I don't think it's right :( I always use Jupiter with power saving preset and add the line in linux default like this: quiet splash pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 So it helps a little (fan just doesn't run all the time 100%...) What else can I do? The notebook spec is: Core i7-720 (8 threads) NVIDIA GTS250M So it's rather one of the first, not so silent and cold notebooks;), with Core i7 family and without optimus technology (as nvidia GPU is the only graphic card built-in) but anyway I don't have theese strange hot times in Windows 7.

    I have an Acer Aspire 8951G running 12.04 Pangolin with bumblebee working beautifully. My problem is that when I connect either the VGA port or the HDMI to my projector there is no way I can see to properly set up the resolutions or colours. The default basic display driver sees the projector correctly, but messes up colours and resolutions (on hdmi) and resolutions on VGA. (Its a 1280 X 720 projector) Am I missing some sort of Xorg configuration? nvidia-xconfig does not seem to exist and running optirun nvidia-settings -c :8 opens the settings, but of course only for the one display. I just want a way to set a default config for my projector via VGA or preferably HDMI. Any help would be wonderful.

I just reinstalled with amd64, and tried updating the Nvidia drivers with Nvidia Xserver. but it made no difference.     I'm experiencing brightness related issues on my MSI GT683 (Intel Core i5-2410M, nVidia GeForce GTX 560M, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64, nVidia driver version 295.40). To start with, when I open brightness settings, the slider is working incorrectly - screen is the dimmest on about 1/3 of a bar, moving it to the left side increases brightness. Next, while pressing the keyboard buttons (Fn+up, Fn+down), brightness changes incorrectly - sometimes 2 steps up/down, but sometimes it's totally irregular - ex. in order to set the lowest brightness, I have to set the maximum, then hit Fn+down, then Fn+up. (after 2 moves from 8 to 2... What's even more strange, while changing brightness from keyboard on boot and on login screen, it works perfect. Tried adding acpi related switches to GRUB, but the brightness settings wouldn't work at all. Any help appreciated.

  • Is it normal to not have desktop effects after installing on an Asus N53S?

    I've just installed 11.10 and so far so great, except I just discovered (after looking at another installation) I'm missing some effects. First of all, I am using unity 3d (I chose ubuntu at the login menu), and have already the correct nvidia drivers. Yet, my launcher is the same from unity 2d, the same as the app switcher, and when dragging windows to screen corners, they don't get grabbed. This "error" was present since the begining, so I was not able to detect it. Please help, I want to have an ubuntu experience as nice as everyone else. EDIT 1: I'm using an Asus N53S. My graphic card is Nvidia geforce GT540M. It says cuda, if that matters.

    Well, a picture is work 1k words: Looks bad, huh? I am using the 331-updates latest 331.67 drivers from NVidia's website on a Dell Latitude e6400. Everything else is up-to-date. This only happens when I resume from sleep, or I switch to a VT and back. It also doesn't ALWAYS happen, which I find odd. Graphics Card: Nvidia Quadro NVS160M UPDATE AFTER TESTING: This problem only exists with KDE (specifically QT). I can go into Unity or Mint or any non QT-based GUI and it works perfectly with no resume errors. UPDATE: This only happens when I use KWin (and KDE). I have upgraded to 14.04 and the problem is not occurring as frequently. Also, sometimes this effect doesn't happen, but instead the top menu bar simply goes out of focus with the rest of the screen goes blank.

    I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T530 with Optimus video, which is not supported on 12.04.1. I don't normally need the discrete (nVidia) graphics, so I turn it off in the BIOS settings to achieve longer battery life (and so that the screen dimmer will work), but when placed in the docking station, the integrated (Intel) graphics don't power the HDMI ports. (The VGA port does work, but I want to focus on the HDMI.) This means I have to change the BIOS settings constantly. Is there any way to have the system detect the docking station and power up/enable the discrete graphics accordingly? I don't need to do it on the fly. Just at startup. This post suggests that bumblebee can turn the discrete graphics on and off for specific applications, but I just want to turn it on or off. [2 suggests that vga_switcheroo will not work with nVidia Optimus.

    I have two monitors, one 1920x1200 and the other 1920x1080, and in 10.10 they were "separate". As in when I opened the display preferences they were shown as separate screens. Since installing (from scratch) 11.04 I instead have one giant 3840x1200 screen spread over the two monitors. Not a problem per se, except when I want to play full-screen games! When playing games I want them to be on the primary (1920x1200) monitor, but since the game only detects one screen I cant do that, even if I lower the resolution in-game. I have a nVidia GTS 250 card, using nvidia-current driver (version 270.41.06), even though "Additional Drivers" reports the driver is "activated but not currently in use". Is there a way to force the game to use only one of the monitors? Or make the game detect both monitors?

  • OpenGL behaviour depending on the graphics card?

    This is something that never happened to me before. I have an OpenGL code that uses GLSL shaders to texture a 3D model. The code involves a lot of GPU texture processing, blending, etc... I wanted to check how the performance of my code improves using a faster graphics card (both new and old are NVIDIA, using always the NVIDIA development drivers). But now I have found that once I run the code using the new graphics card, it behaves completely different (the final render looks wrong), probably because some blending effect is not performed correctly. I haven't really look into what has changed, but I am guessing that some OpenGL states are, by default, set different. Is this possible? Have you ever found different OpenGL/GLSL behaviour using different graphics cards? Any "fast" solution? (So far I've thought of plugging back the old one, push all OpenGL default states, and compare with the ones I initially get using the new card..)
