  The problem I have been trying to install SQL Server 2012 on Windows Server 2012. All the software seems to be there by default on Server 2012 and my hardware meets the reqs. Copy the installation media to the local drive and try to install from that (rather than a DVD). This produced the same error. Based on another error message, I installed .NET 4.0 (which apparently is not on Server 2012 out of the box). Same error. Install from command line.   I'm having trouble upgrading SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 to SP3. The SP1 install uses mixed mode authentication (so there is an sa password). • Should I use Evernote or Org-mode for taking notes?

  I am looking for an app that will help me manage my notes, and after coming across Org-mode, I was wondering whether Org-mode's functionality is strong enough that it can remove the need for me to use another note taking app (because org is more of a task management app), such as Evernote. My wishes for a note taking app are: can be accessed offline in some form, eg through an iPhone app or desktop client Org-Mode and Evernote can both do this, however it seems like MobileOrg is more aimed at tasks, rather than notes? If this is the case, I probably would use Evernote in addition to MobileOrg. I can clip web content into easily for research Evernote has the browser extension, how is it with Org-Mode? I know I can use c-c c-l, but how suited is it really for taking notes on stuff I am browsing in Chrome/Firefox? has voice notes on the iPhone and computer too, if possible Org-Mode cannot do this on the iPhone, on the computer could I record audio externally and then link the files in? I can add notes too on my iPhone & computer while not connected to the internet both can do this. The types of notes I am likely to have include: howtos/things I have learnt, documentation on my setup/stuff, research on things I may do in the future, ideas, and task specific notes. I have thought about where I would want to access each of these notes and will post that here if you think it would help. So, is Org-mode strong enough in note-taking and the requirements I listed that I can avoid the need to use a separate tool for taking notes?

• Gaming blew fuse: how to overcome?

  I've been gaming for a while now. When playing certain games this PC goes into overdrive. The fan/fans start/s to sound like a jet engine it/they get/s so busy. Also I have smelt burning when this has happened. The fuse blew on the 4 socket adapter I was using recently. On the following thread someone said this could be due to the PSU not being strong enough to handle the load, in what it seems could be a related issue someone had, although the person who posted this question did say that blowing a fan on their PC stopped it crashing in that case: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2047543/gtx-650-overheating-issue.html. This is exactly what they said: Your GPU isn't overheating. 70+ before it would shutdown and cause a restart. Make sure your PSU is strong enough to handle your new system at load and possibly run Memtest to check your RAM (although not BSOD'ing and just shutting down points to the PSU). This (the PSU part) makes more sense to me than it being to do with dust etc, since it seems a more plausible explanation of why the fuse blew. The PC has no problems except when playing certain games: i.e. TERA Rising and WoW with add-ons (I think WoW is ok as long as I don't have more than 1 add-on (Healers Have To Die)). I'm just wondering if anyone knows or can suggest what I might be able to do to be able to play these games without this problem occurring. The PC's spec is this: Display: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 8GB RAM (6 available) Processor: AMD FX (tm) - 8120 Eight-Core Processor - 3.1 GHz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors I have read on another post that forcing vsync in the Nvidia Control Panel helped with what seems could be a similar problem, so I plan to see if that solves it, God permitting.

• Configuring two nearby WLANs: should I use the same ssid?

  I'm configuring a home network for basic internet use (ie don't really need connectivity between workstations on the network). My brick walls mean a single wireless router doesn't provide good coverage throughout the house, so I have purchased two powerline adapters and now have the incoming modem/wireless router at one end of the house plugged into a powerline adapter, and at the other end of the house the other powerline adapter plugged into another wireless router. Currently the two wireless networks have different ssids. (The powerline adapters only do power-Ethernet; they're not wireless access points themselves.) This works well, except when I move between rooms and would ideally like my devices (iPad, phones, laptops) to switch from the weak to the strong signal. Sometimes there's enough signal that they hold on to the weak connects instead of switching to the strong one. Should I name the two networks the same ssid, and if so what is the actual effect? Do the signals get confused, is the bandwidth affected, will this help my devices seamlessly move from one to the other, or is the ssid just a cosmetic thing that actually doesn't have any impact on this situation? Are there any other settings that I should configure to make my setup optimal?

• Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition

  Have got a new kickn server as new DEV machine It has got two 3ware 9650 Cached Controllers with 8 x 300gig Velociraptor Drives First Problem was the 9.5.1.1 drivers Had to press F8 as soon as the Win 2008 r2 server cd started to load. Once in Adavanced Startup options Disable Driver Signing options Next Issue was I got everything running and accidently selected wrong raid part to do install once I restarted All I would get after waiting the 10 mins for the reboot to start & loading the driver was "setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition"  Finally after about 1 hour I removed all drives apart from the 2 needed for system part on cont 0 deleted system part and recreated this RAID1 mirror. (ALso make sure all USB drives are out on boot..only add them when browsing  the driver to be added )  Restarted loaded driver selected install and Once system is up I will go back and add drives and new parts on both controllers AT least I did not get stuck for a day as is the norm..lol

  Today is the first day of the SQLPASS 2012 and I will be soon posting SQL Server 2012 experience over here. Today when I landed in Seattle, I got the nostalgia feeling. I used to stay in the USA. I stayed here for more than 7 years – I studied here and I worked in USA. I had lots of friends in Seattle when I used to stay in the USA. I always wanted to visit Seattle because it is THE place. I remember once I purchased a ticket to travel to Seattle through Priceline (well it was the cheapest option and I was a student) but could not fly because of an interesting issue. I used to be Teaching Assistant of an advanced course and the professor asked me to build a pop-quiz for the course. I unfortunately had to cancel the trip. Before I returned to India – I pretty much covered every city existed in my list to must visit, except one – Seattle. It was so interesting that I never made it to Seattle even though I wanted to visit, when I was in USA. After that one time I never got a chance to travel to Seattle. After a few years I also returned to India for good. Once on Television I saw “Sleepless in Seattle” movie playing and I immediately changed the channel as it reminded me that I never made it to Seattle before. However, destiny has its own way to handle decisions. After I returned to India – I visited Seattle total of 5 times and this is my 6th visit to Seattle in less than 3 years. I was here for 3 previous SQLPASS events – 2009, 2010, and 2011 as well two Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Summit in 2009 and 2010. During these five trips I tried to catch up with all of my all friends but I realize that time has its own way of doing things. Many moved out of Seattle and many were too busy revive the old friendship but there were few who always make a point to meet me when I travel to the city. During the course of my visits I have made few fantastic new friends – Rick Morelan (Joes 2 Pros) and Greg Lynch. Every time I meet them I feel that I know them for years. I think city of Seattle has played very important part in our relationship that I got these fantastic friends. SQLPASS is the event where I find all of my SQL Friends and I look for this event for an entire year. This year’s my goal is to meet as many as new friends I can meet. • Long pause in pxe/preseed install

  I'm encountering a long pause during unattended (preseeded) install of precise server via pxe. The install eventually works, but appears to just sit there for 20 or 30 minutes after it authenticates the mirror. There is nothing in the logs during this time, even with full debug. • Apt-get 403 Forbidden, but accessible in the browser

  I've noticed that running apt-get update recently has resulted in quite a few ppa's returning "403 Forbidden". In and effort to clean them up I had a look: W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/gnome3-team/gnome3/ubuntu/dists/raring/main/binary-amd64/Packages 403 Forbidden W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/gnome3-team/gnome3/ubuntu/dists/raring/main/binary-i386/Packages 403 Forbidden E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. The strange things is, if I copy these URLs into my browser I can access the files just fine. Why would apt-get report "403 Forbidden" if they're still accessible? I tried re-adding the ppa through add-apt-repository which downloads the signing key again, and it still reported "403 Forbidden".

• Incorrect instructions on Upgrading to 12.10 from 12.04LTS

The correct steps are: Alt+F2, Update Manager, choose settings, updates tab and set notify to "For any new version." Close the manager. Press Alt+F2, Terminal, then enter "sudo update-manager -d" (without the quotes)... Sorry to pester this list, but the Ubuntu wiki has no provisions for "Talk" or "Discussion" that do not require registration and a login. I feel like I should be able to point out a problem without signing in.

• Crashes while playing Mp3 songs

  I have Downloaded and Installed Ubuntu last month while downloading codecs for playing Music and Video Formats my Laptop (Dell XPS) crashed. later i again started the system now the problems i face are 1) After Signing in as User/Admin the wallpaper loads while all other windows disappear no UI (task bar and dock) is displayed even after say 30 min. 2) I uninstalled and reinstalled Ubnutu hence there were no problems but when i play Music files the Laptop crashes and the same sequence as above follows this has happened for last 6 times. 3) Whenever the UI disaapears after logging in the Hard Disk starts to heat up and there is considerable increase in power usage of the system. where in the power drain is notable.   Possible Duplicate: How to install tor? I downloaded the tar.gz file from TORproject .org and unzipped it. I clicked everything inside the directories but nothing happened. I also tried to install the addon from here http://bit.ly/bSSNea . The addon is installed but I cant see the TOR button anywhere. I checked relevant the option in the preferences section of toolsaddons. How do I install it?   One of the most common problems faced by customer's is the use of the keystore and it's interplay with the credential store.Here is a picture that describes these relationships.(Click on the picture for a larger image). The picture makes some assumptions in describing the relationship. Some of assumptions are: a) the key used for signing and encryption are the same. b) A keystore can have multiple keys and each key can have it's own alias. In the picture I show only a single key with alias "orakey". c) The keystore being described here is a JKS keystore. Things can vary slightly for other type of keystores. I hope to have a detailed How To that provides the larger picture and then shows these relationships in that context and this picture was created in the context of that How-To. However I think people will find this picture useful on a standalone basis as well. The <serviceInstance> is the entry you will find in jps-config.xml

Upon sign-up, new AWS customers receive 5 GB of Amazon S3 storage, 20,000 Get Requests, 2,000 Put Requests, 15GB of bandwidth in and 15GB of bandwidth out each month for one year. source:aws.amazon.com , emphasis mine. 20,000 GET requests & 2000 puts mean , 20,000 page views(max) and 2000 file uploads per month. Isn't that lower than what App Engine offers 43,200,000 requests per day.Am I missing some thing, please help.

• Android: debug certificate expired error

  I started up Eclipse today, created a new project, and immediately had an error before I had changed a single line: Error generating final archive: Debug Certificate expired on 11/12/11 When installed, the Android SDK generates a "debug" signing certificate for you in a file called "debug.keystore". Eclipse uses this certificate rather than forcing you to create a new one for every project. In older versions of Eclipse, the certificate was only valid for 365 days, but as I understand it the default has been changed to 30 years in newer versions. If for whatever reason you don't want to upgrade Eclipse, you can manually delete the certificate to for Eclipse to generate a new one. You can find the location in Preferences -> Android -> Build -> Default debug keystore (mine was in C:\Users\myUserName\.android\); just delete the "debug.keystore" file, then go back into Eclipse and Clean the project to generate a new file.

• Mixing self signed certs with traditional SSL

  I have a traditional SSL cert going to a subdomain secure.mydomain.com on my domain. My host required me to have a dedicated IP in order to do this. I would also like to use HTTPS on my site for when I log into WordPress, etc. and since this is just for me, I don't mind self signing it and clicking through the scary messages. Is there a way to use a self signed cert for mydomain.com/wp-admin (just for me) when I already am on a dedicated IP that already has a traditional SSL cert for normal users on secure.mydomain.com? (FWIW, I'm on WHM without root access.)

I understand that you have to change your IP from dynamic to a static IP Address but I am not sure how you achieve that step. I am looking for some assistance on this on how to enable self signing certificates, make the domain name resolve on the Internet from hosting the website on the web server, enabling protected directories and the basic commands of accessing the directory where the website files can be uploaded and available on the World Wide Web.
