• iPhone - stdint.h file not found!

  I am dealing with a project designed for iPhone OS 2.0 and I am intending to keep compatibility with this version while offering new OS 3.x functionality. When I set the base SDK to iPhone OS 3.1.3 and Target OS for 2.0, Xcode gives me this error during compilation. 'stdint.h' file not found /Developer/usr/lib/clang/1.0.1/include/stdint.h:32:16: fatal error: 'stdint.h' file not found The strange thing is that the file is there, on the path it says it is not. if I set the target OS for 3.x the problem vanishes. how to solver that? thanks for any help.

• Building an Issue Tracker Plugin for TortoiseSVN

  I've read a lot about IBugTraqProvider interface and implementing an issue tracker into the commit dialog of TortoiseSVN. IBugTraqProvider is written here. Is there a more simpler way not to do it, building the plug-in and installing it on TortoiseSVN. The Document is not that clear that a developer can create its own plugin. I'm working with SalesForce as the Issue Tracker, and retrieved the WSDL file to integrate with the Working Items. Now I need to know how to connect it to TortoiseSVN. Please any suggestions?

• How to set my .apk file to run on different screen resolution in android?

  I am using a "WVGA800" for my app. I try to run it on different resolution screens. It it is not perfectly scratching in that resolution . I read and implement issues form this link. http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html But still not result. Please let me know if any one hase a perfect solution. Main issue are that I am fixing hight & width of Image, textsize etc. When these are displayed to screen of "WVGA800". But when I test them on "HVGA", "QVGA" then problem arise. I want to avoid the "if else" conditions by getting the screen resolution at Runtime. If any one hase any solution for this...let me know. Thanks in advance. I am also wondring when there will be new devices with new screen resolutions?

• How do you prevent file confusion if version-control keywords are forbidden?

  At least two brilliant programmers, Linus Torvalds and Guido von Rossum, disparage the practice of putting keywords into a file that expand to show the version number, last author, etc. I know how keyword differences clutter up diffs. One of the reasons I like SlickEdit's DiffZilla is because it can be set to skip leading comments. However, I have vivid memories of team-programming where we had four versions of a file (two different releases, a customer one-off, and the development version) all open for patching at the same time, and was quite helpful to verify with a glance that each time we navigated to an included header we got the proper one, and each time we pasted code the source and destination were what we expected. There is also the where-did-this-file-come-from problem that arises when a hasty developer copies a file from one place to another using the file system, rather than checking it out of the repository using the tool; or, more defensibly, when files under control in locations A, B, and C need to be marshalled (with cherry-picking) into a distribution location D. In places where VCS keywords are banned, how do you cope?

• Programmer productivity by programming language?

  In code complete, there's a nice table listing how productive a programmer is depending on language. Jeff Atwood has a nice blog post about it. This chart is at least 4 years old by now. I'm curious: have there been any more recent studies done on this? (insert standard anti-flamewar boilerplate here... we're all adults) Update: I appreciate everyone's opinions on the subject and whether or not this is a relevant question or not. But that's not really what I'm asking for. I'm wanting any studies on the subject. I'm inclined to agree with most of the opinions posted thus far, but I'd like to see if there's any research to back that up. And I'm also aware that choice of programming language is a complicated subject that depends on other factors like developer familiarity. To me, this is all the more reason to have these kinds of discussions backed by research. Also, thanks for the link, Robert Gamble.

  Has anyone done a thorough comparison of AppFabric and NCache or AppFabric and ScaleOut? We are currently looking to implement either AppFabric, NCache or ScaleOut for distributed caching in geographically distant locations and I would like to know anyone's thoughts who has compared them side by side. I appreciate that many people use one or the other and tell me why their chosen solution is great but I am really looking for a comparison of the two products. Such things as what does AppFabric not do or not do well (if anything), partially from a features point of view but also from developer's point of view. Is working with one compared to the other nicer, easier, more flexible, more powerful, etc. There are plenty of lists of features which I can compare but am really looking for a comparison from someone who has perhaps been in a similar position to us and has performed the evaluation that we are about to launch into which will give us some food for thought whilst we do so. • Printing a PDF in .NET

  It's the "printing question guy" again. Looking for a third-party solution to print PDFs, preferable from a service. I have seen some arguments against it, but due to our use case, this really is the preferred solution - the service will be receiving messages from a messaging bus, and there shouldn't be any sort of delay between the receipt of that message and the printing of the report. So far, I've found 1 solution from PDF Tools that seems very nice, and very flexible. The problem is that it's licensed per server. If anyone knows of any third-party solutions that have a seat license (per developer, unlimited runtime distribution), that would be much preferred. EDIT: Clarification, by printing, I mean sending the PDF to a printer.

  Joel mentions in several of his blog posts that it is very important for a developer/software entrepreneur to have solid understanding of Economics. Yet the Fog Creek MBA book reading list does not include any Economics books. Is there any good material that people can recommend? Obviously, I am not as concerned about mathematical treatise as foundations and basic principles. For example, I was able to find a very good high-level read on Macroeconomics: Concise Guide to Macroeconomics but I am yet to find anything similar on Microeconomics. Any suggestions and reading pointers would be highly appreciated.

• IE7 float/clear bug

  I am having the weirdest behavior in IE7 on this page. I have a clear: left on #moored that makes sure that #content-container will expand to the height of the float: left'd #content. Of course, Firefox and IE8 do it right. The weird thing though, is in IE7, it appears that #content-container is automatically expanding to contain the #secondary-content, which it shouldn't. Even weirder is when I view with IE8 with developer tools, the boundary boxes seem to show the that the #content-container is the expanding to the height of the #secondary-container, even though the background: #fff tells a different story. The background goes to where it should, and the void is now black. I've Googled a bit and came across heaps of similar float bugs, but I don't think I've found one which offers a fix yet for this circumstance. Can anyone please help me?

• Del.icio.us get xml of all posts

  Im trying to get all of my posts in a delicious account to an MySql DB. Since delicious exports xml I think it wont be too complicated, but being new to it I cant really make sense of the api... I believe I have to query it as so: https://api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all? But one catch is that im using an yahoo id for that account which I need to do it as follows: "To access data from accounts created using a Yahoo! ID, use the same API's as below, but change the path to /v2, and make HTTP requests using OAuth as provided by the Yahoo! Developer Network." I cant understand how to do it, can someone please help. Thanks. EDIT Although I still have the same doubt I figured out I can export the whole thing from the settings in my account, now I just need to get the html export in a xml file :) Also the yahoo method for accessing data, really is no good.

  i am looking for a project planning tool that include features like a organizer, todo list, target * deadlines of projects. since i am a developer, it will be good to have a tool that can also do modelling like UML/ERD etc. i am also looking for something that can do note taking. something like a blog with code snipplets - so with syntax highlighting. OneNote etc all does not have code highlighting - the best i can do is use an online syntax highlighter to generate HTML then paste in which is slow. of course its good to have a free/open source tool that has all the features i listed. but its fine to know what paid options are there

• How do I mirror a SVN repository on CodePlex?

  I'm the creator (and so far, only developer) of a CodePlex project. I've writing it on my laptop, using a Subversion repository on my home network. Submitting my changes to CodePlex via the TeamServer interface is driving me crazy, and I'd really like a simple way of syncing my svn repos with CodePlex via there new SVN interface. svnsync or synmerge seem to be the way to go, but neither's instructions seem clear to a guy who's only ever used TortoiseSVN. And they seem to also seem need local access to the destination server (which clearly for CodePlex, is impossible) So, could someone give simple instructions how to do this?

• ASP.Net 2.0 Web application cannot find specified module.

  Recently my ASP.NET application quit working. It is local to my machine. It quit working after installing and uninstalling some third party developer tools. (I believe) I emptied out my directory and started adding modules until I narrowed it down to a managed C++ dll. When I load the dll into Dependency Walker it says that "c:\windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft.vc80.debugcrt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_5490cd9f\MSVCM80D.DLL" loads fine, but "MSVCR80D.DLL" could not be found. However this dll exists in the same directory. The managed dll contains an embedded manifest and I am using Visual Studio 2005 service pack 1.

  The new Android 2.1 SDK (version 7) has a new class called SignalStrength: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/telephony/SignalStrength.html I updated my SDK in Eclipse to include the 2.1 add-on, and now I am trying to use this new class. However, when I go to do an import android.telephony.SignalStrength, it can't find it. Do I have to somehow reset my project to refresh the SDK so it knows about the new libraries?   Hey all, I'm trying to use SubWCRev to get the current revision number of our SVN repository and put it in a file so I can show it in the UI. As I'm working with a Web App, I use the following post build command line: "SubWCRev.exe" "$(SolutionDir)." "$(ProjectDir)Content\js\revnumber.js.tpl" "$(ProjectDir)Content\js\revnumber.js" It works great, but now I want to make sure I have SubWCRev before running it, so I can skip this post build if a fellow developer is not running TortoiseSVN. I tried a few batch codes here, but couldn't figure this out. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Problems Executing iPhone "GenericKeychain" Example

  I can't get apple's "GenericKeychain" example to run. I have replaced all 5 occurrences, as mentioned in the readme file, of "YOUR_APP_ID_HERE.com.yourcompany" with my own string: se.[company name].[project name].demo. The compilation goes fine but when trying to run it on the phone, an error saying "The executable was signed with invalid entitlements" appears. And yes, I have an ad hoc provisioning profile installed. I've tried to add "Entitlements.plist" with "get-task-allow" checked but with the same result. Has anyone been able to run the example? • What is node.js?

  I don't fully get what node.js is all about. Maybe it's because I am mainly a web based business app developer. Can someone please explain what it is and the use of it? Thanks. My understanding so far is that: The programming model is event driven, especially the way it handles IO. It uses javascript and the parser is V8. It can be easily used to create concurrent server apps. Are my understandings correct? If yes, then what are the benefits of evented IO, is it just more for the concurrency stuffs? Also is the direction of node.js to become a framework like, javascript based (v8 based) programming model?

  Hi All, I would love to begin developing applications for the MAC OS X, although I have to idea where to start. Problem: I currently do not, and cannot afford a new MAC OS X-based computer. Solution: A very good friend loves trying out things that I've made for Windows, and also owns a MAC OS X computer, and is willing to test these new creations. Now I am faced with another problem. I don't know which language to use to develop these apps in. I am a .NET Developer and seeing as though I can only use a Windows based PC to develop MAC apps, where should I start? I've heard of Mono, and have used it on Linux before, would Mono be an option for MAC development on a Windows based computer, too? Are there any other ways around this? • Windows Aero areas in own C# Applications

  I'm wondering about that many new applications, I think most built in WPF, has this really cool Windows Aero Glass interfaces. For example Seesmic or the upcoming Firefox 3.7 Searching in the internet most time it looks like you need a hack to realize this. But seriously: I don't think big software development teams use hacks to roll out their huge used products. So my question is: Windows Aero Glass Areas - How to do? Is it only possible with a hack? Maybe it's just one property, i don't know. I'm WinForms developer so I never tested out WPF. But my Google search didn't look like It is easier with WPF.
