• Combining two UPDATE Commands - Performance ?

  If I want to update two rows in a MySQL table, using the following two command: UPDATE table SET Col = Value1 WHERE ID = ID1 UPDATE table SET Col = Value2 WHERE ID = ID2` I usually combine them into one command, so that I do not to have to contact the MySQL server twice from my C client: UPDATE table SET Col = IF( ID = ID1 , Value1 , Value2) WHERE ID=ID1 OR ID=ID2 Is this really a performance gain? Background Information: I am using a custom made fully C written high-performance heavily loaded webserver.

• ADO program to list members of a large group.

  Hi everyone, I'm attempting to list all the members in a Active Directory group using ADO. The problem I have is that many of these groups have over 1500 members and ADSI cannot handle more than 1500 items in a multi-valued attribute. Fortunately I came across Richard Muller's wonderful VBScript that handles more than 1500 members at http://www.rlmueller.net/DocumentLargeGroup.htm I modified his code as shown below so that I can list ALL the groups and its memberships in a certain OU. However, I'm keeping getting the exception shown below: "ADODB.Recordset: Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal." My program appears to get stuck at: strPath = adoRecordset.Fields("ADsPath").Value Set objGroup = GetObject(strPath) All I am doing above is issuing the query to get back a recordset consisting of the ADsPath for each group in the OU. It then walks through the recordset and grabs the ADsPath for the first group and store its in a variable named strPath; we then use the value of that variable to bind to the group account for that group. It really should work! Any idea why the code below doesn't work for me? Any pointers will be great appreciated. Thanks.   Hi all I am struggling a little in getting my mapping right. What I have is a single self joined table of look up values of certain types. Each lookup can have a parent, which can be of a different type. For simplicities sake lets take the Country and State example.   This seems like the model binding is causing me issues. Essentially I have a model called ProductOption and for the purpose of this question it has 2 fields ID (Int) PK ProductID (Int) FK I have a standard route set-up context.MapRoute( "Product_default", "Product/{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Product", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); and if the user wants to add an option the URL is, /Product/Options/Add/1 in the above URL 1 is the ProductID, I have the following code to return a blank model the the view, [HttpGet] public ActionResult Add(int id) { return View("Manage", new ProductOptionModel() { ProductID = id }); } Now in my view I keep a hidden field <%= Html.HiddenFor(x=>x.ID) %> This is used to determine (on submit) if we are editing or adding a new option. However the Model binder in .net seems to replace .ID (Which was 0 when leaving the above get actionresult) with 1 (or the value of the id parameter in the URL) How can I stop or work around this? I run the sp_LockReader at same time in two diferent query windows and the second one starts showing test table contents without the first one terminates. Shouldn't serializeble level forces the second query to wait? How do i get the described behaviour? Thanks

• need to change TextBox.Text inside TextChanged, something forces form close

  I am making a TextBox behave like if it could store a null value. In order to do that, i have a variable NullMode that indicates wether the value is stored is Null, and in TextChanged i set that to false, and on specific user action i set it to true and Text to a value that indicates that there is null inside the textbox. Then, based on NullMode, textbox is drawn differently. Now, i have a semaphore-like approach in order to prevent event handle from firing when i dont need it. Here is how it looks: private void input_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (_preventTextBoxEvents) return; _preventTextBoxEvents = true; //if (NullMode) // Text = ""; NullMode = false; ValidateInput(); _preventTextBoxEvents = false; } Now, if i need to set a textbox text to something that should show while in nullmode, i just set _preventTextBoxEvents before i do to true and it works all right. BUT! I need to also remove the text when user tries to input something into the textbox! So i need to set Text to "". Problem is, if i uncomment that, form is closed after the event handler exits. I cannot prevent it (e.Cancel = true in FormClosing doesnt help!) and do not understand what can be causing it. There is no error message too (and i'm not doing try-catch). My logic, when i do Text="". OnTextChanged should fire, it should call my TextChanged and it will see _preventTextBoxEvents is true and exit, so there would be no stack overflow / infinite recursion. What is going on?

My problem is that when I delete a "relation unaware" object (Child), the record in the many-to-many table is left. I want the relationship to be removed regardless of which end of it is deleted. • UIScrollView eating touches from its parent

  I have nested scrollViews (or rather a subclass of UIScrollView inside of an actual scrollview). I set the size of the inner view to its contentSize and set scrollEnabled = NO, because I only want the outside view scrolling. But the innerView occasionally eats touches and keeps the outerView from scrolling when it should. Is there something else I need to set to keep it from stealing the scrolling touches, but still allowing user interaction (e.g. editing a textView)?

  I've found that if I use the CursorManager to set a cursor — CursorManager.setBusyCursor() — then set stage.mouseChildren = false, the cursor set by CursorManager is replaced by the "default" mouse cursor the next time the mouse is moved. I'm setting stage.mouseChildren = false so that, while the mouse is being dragged, other "stuff" on the stage won't get mouse events (eg, so that mouse-over affordances aren't triggered if I'm in the middle of a drag). Is there some way I can work around this?

  Is there a way that when a user types python setup.py install to install a Python package, setup.py can be made to set specific variables at the base of the pacakge? A common example would be to basically set mypackage.__revision__ to be the svn revision of the checkout if one is working from svn. Another example case would be if the user can choose a global option, so that the option mypackage.__option__ be set according to a flag passed to setup.py, e.g. python setup.py install --set-flag=10 Then when using the package, mypackage.__option__ would equal 10.

• sort arrow is always showing up once sorting is used

  we have several pages as tabs where datatable is used in most of the pages.when we sort on a particular coulmn and exit the page and re enter this page the arrow appears(up /down based on how we left) Although the data is not sorted in the direction the arrow shows.i have set preserveSort and preserveDataMode to false. The arrow is set to true in the column's t:commandSortHeader tag in all the pages. is this a bug or am i missing any setting?I have tried to set forceId to false in t:commandSortHeader but of now use.

  I have a business layer that has DTOs that are used in the presentation layer. This application uses entity framework. Here is an example of a class called RoleDTO public class RoleDTO { public Guid RoleId { get; set; } public string RoleName { get; set; } public string RoleDescription { get; set; } public int? OrganizationId { get; set; } } In the BLL I want to have a method that returns a list of DTO.. I would like to know which is the better approach: returning IQueryable or list of DTOs. Although i feel that returning Iqueryable is not a good idea because the connection needs to be open. Here are the 2 different methods using the different approaches public class RoleBLL { private servicedeskEntities sde; public RoleBLL() { sde = new servicedeskEntities(); } public IQueryable<RoleDTO> GetAllRoles() { IQueryable<RoleDTO> role = from r in sde.Roles select new RoleDTO() { RoleId = r.RoleID, RoleName = r.RoleName, RoleDescription = r.RoleDescription, OrganizationId = r.OrganizationId }; return role; } Note: in the above method the datacontext is a private attribute and set in the constructor, so that the connection stays opened. Second approach public static List GetAllRoles() { List roleDTO = new List(); using (servicedeskEntities sde = new servicedeskEntities()) { var roles = from pri in sde.Roles select new { pri.RoleID, pri.RoleName, pri.RoleDescription }; //Add the role entites to the DTO list and return. • capistrano deployment with use_sudo=true - permissions problem

  i am trying to do a deployment with capistrano to newly installed Ubuntu server i am deploying to directory /var/www, owned by root, so i need to set use_sudo to true while i execute commands with run "#{try_sudo} command" without problem, svn checkout doesn't work with sudo prefix i try set :deploy_via, :export and it throws Can't make directory '/var/www/pr_name/releases/20091217171253': Permission denied during checkout i imagine adding "try_sudo" prefix to "svn export" would help, but where can i edit the one it uses in deploy_via? -- if on other hand i don't use use_sudo, and set /var/www/ directory ownership to myuser, i still cannot deploy - some of my deployment commands set folders ownership to apache user www-data and then i get something like: changing ownership of `/var/www/pr_name/current/specificdirectory': Operation not permitted which, if i understand correctly, has to be done with sudo
