• computer and User Account Migrated using ADMT but not sending mail

  I have successfully migrated a User and Computer account using ADMT. The user is able to login to the computer with the new account and is able to open outlook receive mail but is not able to send internal or external mail. The Exchange server is still in the Old domain. The bounce back message received was that the user doesn't have permissions to send to the recipient. When I migrated the user I did migrate the SID history so why is mail not being about to be sent? The body of the bounce back message is as follows: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: test Sent: 1/6/2010 4:17 PM The following recipient(s) could not be reached: User, user on 1/6/2010 4:17 PM You do not have permission to send to this recipient. • connecting to bsnl wll, with huawei fixed wireless modem with connected to usb port on linux mint.

  On windows, when I plugged in the usb connector, to the device was recognized as a mass storage device and installed all the drivers, to my computer, then the device, automatically restarted and started behaving like a modem, I'm writing this post, using the same modem, through windows... On linux mint (debian kernel, similar to ubuntu 8.10), the device is recognized as a mass storage device, some times, but, has no programs, useful for linux... When I use the modem on windows and restart the computer and login to linux, the device shows up as "not yet configured" in the terminal command "lsusb"... I googled a lot for solutions, tried many things, atlast, configured it and run the command "wvdial". But, get the error, that the modem is not responding, at last ! :'( Please help me out... Many more people are facing this problem, as I could discover, when I googled for it. this is the website address of huawei, the company of my modem... • Enable anonymous access to report builder in reporting services 2008

  I have a 2008 reporting services server installed on windows 2003 server. I am trying to allow anonymous access to the report builder folder so that my users do not have to select the remember password option when they login, if they are wanting to use the report builder. All I have found so far is that I should be able to do this with the IIS manager, but that only seems to work for reporting services 2005. Reporting services 2008 does not show up in the IIS manager, enabling anonymous access seems to be hidden somewhere else. How do I enable anonymous access to report builder in reporting services 2008?

• Password problem while creating domain

  Hi, I'm freshman so far in server management stuff but this seems to be clearly against logic. After updating my Windows Server 2008 Standard 32bit, installing DNS server and AD DS I wanted to create domain via using CMD and dcpromo.exe setup. But no matter if I disable demand for comlex password in Password policies or create a password which fully comply with requirements for strong and complex password, still I can't get any further and it says that my password doesn't meet requirements. I'm also asked there to activate password demand by NET USER -passwordreq:yes and when I do so, this password doesn't work any more and I have to remove it from other admin account to be at least able to login with proper Administrator account.

• SQL Server User Mapping - Limit view of databases for a user

  Hi there, I am adding a new Login with SQL Server Authentication. I set its Server Role as public and then went into User Mapping, selecting the only database this user should have access to. I then change the Default Schema to dbo and made this user the db_owner. I then connect to the instance using the new user's credentials and I can see not only the database he should have access to but all the other attached databases. How can I limit this user to just see the database he has access to? Thanks in advance!

  Hello, I am way out of my depth, and I am trying to get all of my nodes on a cluster to mount a drive on my head node. I've got /etc/auto_master and /etc/auto_afp configured according to Apple's "Autofs: Automatically Mounting Network File Shares in Mac OS X" White Paper: /etc/auto_master +auto_master # Use directory service /net -hosts -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid /home auto_home -nobrowse,hidefromfinder /Network/Servers -fstab /- -static /- auto_afp /etc/auto_afp /Volumes/userA -fstype=afp afp://userA:[email protected]:/ /Volumes/userB -fstype=afp afp://userB:[email protected]:/ I am logged into a compute-node as userA. automount appears to mount both /Volumes/userA and /Volumes/userB to head-node.local:/Users/userA/Documents/ even though I have usernames, passwords, and user-directory specified in the afp url. If I go and login with Finder - it mounts userB appropriately. File sharing and cd/dvd sharing is enabled on all computers involved. Am I doing the right thing, and if so, what did I do wrong? -Stephen

• Why does a group policy not applied to the domain administrator account?

  I have a working policy on my entire domain. I just found out, when logging with the domain administrator, that this policy is not applied (EDIT: Running : gpresult shows that the GPO's are applied - but, this GPO is for Drive Mappings, and the actual drive mappings are NOT shown) The administrator account - does not have any login script on his profile tab. My GPO's are mainly small/atomic settings: single GPO to handle each settings: UAC, Firewall, printers. GPO status for the object is enabled That's an overview of the Drive Maps: Reading on MS support site, I checked the delegation tab, and it is marked as applied to domain and enterprise admins. Every user gets these policies correctly. The OU that is set is the root of the domain. (for testing purpose - I did that to eliminate hierarchy issues - did not help) Block Inheritance is disabled. • Implications of allowing Windows clients to use NTLMv1?

  I have a web application that I'd like to authenticate to using pass-through NTLM for SSO. There is a problem, however, in that NTLMv2 apparently will not work in this scenario (without the application storing an identical password hash). I enabled NTLMv1 on one client machine (Vista) using its local group policy: Computer-Windows Settings-Security Settings-Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level. I changed it to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated. This worked, and I'm able to login to the web application using NTLM. Now this application would be used by all of my client machines... so I'm wondering what the security risks are if I was push this policy out to all of them (not to the domain controller itself though)?

• SSH with X11 forwarding to host where I don't have a home-dir

  I am trying to ssh with X11 forwarding into a host where I don't have a home directory. Because of that, xauth fails and X11 doesn't seem to work. • X11 tunnelling through SSH from Fedora 3 server to Windows Vista client fails to work.

  Okay, I've tried using Xming and PuTTY, as well as Cygwin/X and Cygwin ssh, and it is not working. I've been able to run X applications locally, so it's not a client-side X problem. • Getting jerky backgrounds on Win7 on iMac 27'' 2560x1440

  I installed Win7 on bootcamp on my new iMac 27'' (ATI videocard) and everything was good until recently I noticed that the default win7 background (then one on the background on login) looked jerky. When I say jerky I mean the kind of jerky you get if you can't display enough colours, and instead of nice fading shades you just get stripes and jerky patterns. I am on native resolution but even if I go down to 1920x1080 I get the same. This might have happened after a firmware update but as I don't use windows very often I am not too sure it's what caused it. Oh, and when I am playing games everything looks OK (as in not jerky!). Any help appreciated!

• Moving Windows 7 profile to new user

  I have a laptop which I've been using as part of a corporate network with an AD login (and associated local profile). The laptop is loaded with Windows 7 Ultimate. I need to remove the laptop from this domain and, to start this process, I have already configured a local user on the box for me to use moving forward (granting this user the same local admin rights as the AD user). I'd like to migrate all the files, settings, etc from the local AD profile to the new non-AD profile. Is there a simple way to do this? Anything built into Win 7? As far as basic files I can probably just manually copy all the documents, pictures, music, desktop, favorites, etc... But is there a more streamlined way to move profile information? -Kevin

• Wildcard DNS setting in Windows Server 2008 R2 DNS Server not working

  We've got a windows server 2008 R2 DNS server that we are trying to setup a wildcard DNS entry in. So we want proxy.domain.com and *.proxy.domain.com to go to the same IP. Right now, it seems as if the windows server has registered the actual asterisk as the subdomain. So *.proxy.domain.com resolves to the right IP but something like login.proxy.domain.com doesn't. This seems to be a problem specifically with 2008 because we were able to get this working on a 2003 server. Has anyone come across this yet?

• Can't access Administrator account on Windows XP after adding local user account

  I have an installation of windows XP, and it's not part of a domain. Previously, it just had only the administrator account, and upon creating a different user account, all access was lost to the administrator account. When the machine starts up, only the new local account is offered for login, which seemed strange. I've checked that the administrator account was not disabled, nor are any rights missing from the local security policy. Furthermore, the administrator account is accessible via remote desktop, where an opportunity is given to type the desired account. REALLY strange. Upon deletion of the new local user account, the administrator account appeared again. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

• Windows XP app not able to talk to web server

  My company makes an app built with Adobe Air which talks to our webserver for user authentication. Some users are not able to login. Running Charles Proxy tells us that the "host cannot be found." Loading up the webserver in IE, initially we weren't able to visit the site, we had to add it to trusted sites. My guess is that some security setting is denying our app as well. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as where to make security looser for our app?

• Why does bash invocation differ on AIX when using telnet vs ssh

  I am using an AIX 5.3 server with a .bashrc file set up to echo "Executing bashrc." When I log in to the server using ssh and run: bash -c ls I get: Executing bashrc . .. etc.... However, when I log in with telnet as the same user and run the same command I get: . .. etc.... Clearly in the telnet case, the .bashrc was not invoked. As near as I can tell this is the correct behaviour given that the shell is non-interactive in both cases (it is invoked with -c). However, the ssh case seems to be invoking the shell as interactive. It does not appear to be invoking the .profile, so it is not creating a login shell. I cannot see anything obviously different between the environments in the two cases. What could be causing the difference in bash behaviour?

• How do you cache web pages with a personalized header using caching reverse proxy such as Squid, Var

  Pretty much every page of my website is dynamically generated. However they don't change that frequently (kinda similar to a forum page). So I'd like to cache them using a caching reverse proxy such as Squid, varnish or Nginx. The problem is that for my logged-in users, each of them will see a personalized header saying "Welcome John Doe. Logout" on the upper right corner of the page (just like serverfault). While users who aren't logged in will see a header that says "Login" instead. So basically even though every user will see the same page in general, they all slightly different version due to that personalized header. Is there any way so that I can cache the "main" part of the page and serve it from cache while generate the personalized header dynamically for each individual user? This must be a very common problem. How is it solved in general?

  I have an SSH+Samba server so people can access its files from anywhere on the network. I thought it would be also interesting to provide access through a web interface, so they can access the files even when they don't have access to the VPN or a Samba/SSH client. Something like the Ubuntu One or Dropbox web interface. The http server could be on the same machine as the SSH+Samba, so it should just provide access to local files and some way to login with their username/password. Someone knows any software like this?

• Unable to edit CIFS Share permissions

  Hi, I have this backup Disk to disk device HP Storageworks 2540i. Managing the device is via a web interface. I joined the device into our AD domain in the CIFS server configuration. I then created a CIFS share called backupdata. If I try to access it I'm prompted for a login. The permissions tab in the web interface is empty. The following message is displayed. "CIFS Authentication is managed through Active Directory" However I do not find the share in AD. I forced replication between all DCs and I do not find it. Is there another way to edit the permissions?

• SQL Server 2008 No process is on the other end of the pipe

  I've recently been having some issues with SQL Server 2008 on our server. We only have one website running at the moment, but it seems at random that the following error occurs. A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) I don't understand this error, or what's causing it. Any help would be appreciated. When this error does occur all it takes to fix it is to restart the MSSQLSERVER service. But I need to fix the underlying problem first.

• Third party biometric software.

  Most of us with fingerprint readers and such devices probably use the software provided by the vendor, to enable biometric OS login or single sign-on functionality. However, I've recently wondered if there is any third-party software that will do the same thing? This would be similar to how you don't need the manufacturer's software to use a scanner, printer, or webcam - you just use their drivers and your choice of software. Is there anything like this for fingerprint readers or other biometric devices? Free or Open Source projects are preferred, but I'd be interested in learning about any existing solutions regardless. I personally am particularly interested in Windows-compatible software, but I'll leave the query open for any OS.
