• unable to display index.php

  I'm trying to load a website I've development and transferred from windows to ubuntu. I've installed apache2/php5/mysql and I've confirmed that it works by using the default index.html file displaying something like "It Works!". I've also created arbitrary folder containing some php file that I've run in firefox and it was displayed. But when I try to run my projects index.php I get a blank screen. I've consulted mirc about this and they say that it has to do with file permission. I've chcked the file permission on my index.php file and it is owner : rw r , group : r, others : read-only and execute is unchecked. What am I doing wrong?

• How are vertex shader outs sent as inputs to the fragment shader?

  I'm learning some OpenGL 3.2 way of doing things and I think it's quite great, I'm actually understanding more of shaders and non-fixed pipeline in 1 week rather than those 2 years I tried to learn OpenGL fixed pipeline functions. But here's my question: From what I think I've understood the vertex shader is run for each vertexes in the VBO. But the fragments shader is run per each pixel (is that right?) which is a huge number compared to let's say 3 vertexes of a triangle. Now it seems that in the vertex shader the out variables (like colors and stuff) are passed 1 to 1 to the fragment shader. But let's say that I pass to the fragment shader the position of the vertex in the vertex shader. How is all executed? What vertex (A, B or C of the hipothetical triangle) is passed per each fragment and why?

• How can I set up private, per-user sections on Joomla?

  For this weekend's GiveCamp project, my team has been tasked with adding some functionality to an existing Joomla-powered website for a non-profit. A certain type of user will login, and have access to a personal area where they can upload files, check for messages, see tasks that have been assigned, etc. Each user would have their own area. They would not be creating pages, and their information would only be visible to themselves (or a site-administrator, of course. No sort of weird HIPAA privacy involved). None of us have worked with Joomla before, but we'd like to help this non-profit. We're not sure if we're searching using the wrong terms, or if we're just not finding it. Is such a solution possible in Joomla? And/or are we better off building some standalone solution that interfaces with the same mySQL database as Joomla?

• XBMC is slow and sluggish in Ubuntu 13.04; how can I speed it up?

  I have a Zotac ZBOX ID84 with Intel D2550 proc and Nvidia GT520M GPU, 2GB memory and 320GB hard disk. I tried XBMCbuntu first and it ran perfectly for a few months until I started to mess around with the Terminal. After a re-install I could get the HDMI sound to work again so I installed the latest version of Ubuntu (13.04) instead. That worked fine. The sound and everything worked right away, but the interface of Ubuntu is sluggish and XBMC doesn't run as good as it did in XBMCbuntu. The video playback is slow and it stutters. It speeds up and slows down with the complexity of the video. So, the PC is more than capable to run XBMC and play the videos, but something in Ubuntu (GUI?) slows it down to an unusable pace. Can anybody tell me what I can do to speed things up? Since I'm new to Ubuntu I have no clue where to start looking.

Some things like bringing your work home(thinking about how to solve problems), working many hours when the timeline reaches an end an so on. I've heard being a system administrator is a lot less stressing job, since you don't have to worry about it at home. • Why can't I view a specific websites?

  I am a netwrok administrator at a small company (22 PC) and i have a problem, and i don't know which could be the cause. I can't access a specific website from the LAN. I have a server which has 2 NICs(one to ISP and one to LAN). I have installed on the server (Bind DNS server and DHCP server) Debian 6 Server. I want to mention that "nslookup mcel.co.mz", and "dig my_site" is not working perfectly, I can't access the site from inside the LAN. I can't send emails to person that are located in that domain. When I dig mcel.co.mz @8.8.8.8 the domain is resolved. Why can't I view a specific websites? www.mcel.co.mz Why can't send email to person that are on some domains? @mcel.co.mz I don't have any rule configured in Debian Server which wouldn't let me acces the site. • Problems after installing Ubuntu LiveUSB on my 2nd HD

  I decided to create a Ubuntu USB installer using the Universal USB Installer, selecting a Ubuntu 12.10 ISO. I selected my D: drive, my NON-windows7 carrying drive as install. After this I Re-booted my system and my PC began to Run the Ubuntu Boot-startscreen every time I power up the machine, giving errors like this: Root=Unknown I used my girlfriend's laptop to create, on the exact same way, a real! USB Ubuntu installer. Booting from that USB, picking the option Run Ubuntu from this USB I get the following error: http://postimage.org/image/63qkv98c1/ Let's try installing it from that USB to a Hard-Disk: http://postimage.org/image/usqbwymfx/ As I said: I do not have the Option to pick my Boot-section, at this very moment I can only access to the Ubuntu installation and nothing else. I've read about 90% of other Questions that could've been related, but I could not find a solution. BTW I'm running a Acer Aspire 2Quadcore 4gb DDR 2 Ati Radeon HD, 64bit and I've set my Bios OS-usage from Windows to "Others"

• Why is "sudo virsh" hanging in the console?

  I wanted to experiment with OpenStack on my iMac: So I installed Ubuntu Cloud Live Image on a VM and I also ran DevStack on a fresh Ubuntu 64-bit Server VM. The DevStack script hangs on the following line: instances=`sudo virsh list --all | grep $INSTANCE_NAME_PREFIX | sed "s/.*\($INSTANCE_NAME_PREFIX[0-9a-fA-F]*\).*/\1/g"` I commented that block and ran the script again, this time it did not hang; thus completing its run. I attempted to run sudo virsh list --all on my CloudLive VM and it just hands until I break out of it. Why is sudo virsh hanging? Your help is appreciated. Note 1: The virsh command responds without sudo. Note 2: Not sure it matters, but I'm running my Virtual Machines in VMWare Fusion.

  Assuming I have an applicant information entry screen, the number and types of fields on which can be defined by the system administrator, how do I go about counting the number of Internal Logical Files (ILFs) and Data Element Types (DETs) for the related data functions? So far I have come up with something like this: ILF #1 (control information): Field Metadata, 1 RET, ~3 DET (name, type, mandatory) ILF #2 (business data): Applicant Data, most likely 1 RET, but how many DET? Of course I could count it as 2 DET (Field ref, Value), but I am not sure that would be correct And when it comes to an External Input (EI), say, "Add New Applicant", things become even more complicated, because the number of DET corresponding to the user-editable fields is totally dependent on the control information in ILF #1, and I am out of ideas here... Anyone fancy to help with that? Thanks in advance!

  I just updated to ubuntu 11.10 and am getting "Your authentication attempt was unsuccessful." I am the only user and am the Administrator, during login on my keyring i set to logon automatically, but it still askes me for my password. So i put in my old one and it works. But when i go to install apps it asks again and nothing works! Also if i go to user accounts and try to unlock or change my password it won't let me! It says under password "None" so what's going on?! I'm new to Ubuntu! Help!

• Ubuntu not starting up after shutdown while upgrading

  I had ubuntu 11.10 installed and I was upgrading it to Ubuntu 12.04.1. While upgrading my computer got shut down due to heating issues. Afterwards its not starting up and gets stuck at a black screen. I can use ctrl+alt+f1 to go to command line. But I dont know how to resolve this issue from there. It shows me a message the ubuntu release 12.04.1 is available and run the command "do-release-upgrade" to upgrade to it. But when I run this command, it errors out saying "no new release found". Can anyone suggest what to do ? Thanks !

• Possible to pass pygame data to memory map block?

  I am building a matrix out of addressable pixels and it will be run by a Pi (over the ethernet bus). The matrix will be 75 pixels wide and 20 pixels tall. As a side project, I thought it would be neat to run pong on it. I've seen some python based pong tutorials for Pi, but the problem is that they want to pass the data out to a screen via pygame.display function. I have access to pass pixel information using a memory map block, so is there anyway to do that with pygame instead of passing it out the video port? • Hangs on Splash Screen after login (auto-login), how can I fix this?

  Computer: Toshiba Terca A4 OS: Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 After installing 10.10, the splash screen hangs and the mouse pointer appears. Anyone know what I can do to fix this? ~/.xsession-errors has (nautilus:3190): GConf-CRITICAL **: gconf_value_free: assertion `value != NULL' failed btw, Safe-mode works: I do a Ctrl-Alt-F1 into a command prompt session and run ps aux | grep slave then sudo kill [id of gdm-simple-slave] That killed the session and allowed me to login in safe-mode. Safe-mode works. Then I open a terminal and run ps aux | grep nm- sudo kill -9 [id of nm-applet] nm-applet --sm-disable & to get my internet connection up.

  Hello everyone. I'm new to Linux and Ubuntu is my first distribution. I have chosen Ubuntu because I want to learn more about Linux. I'm under time constraints and need to setup a server as soon as possible. I have Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server setup via VMWare Fusion on my MacBook Pro. I installed everything I need on the server edition, but it feels way over my head. I have no experience with CLI. Can I just use Ubuntu Desktop to run my Web server for the time being while I learn CLI? I basically need to run Apache, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, Python and Django. Should I be using MAMP? Thanks.

• issue with vmd install not working any more. lubuntu 12.10

  I had vmd working on my lubuntu 64 bit but all of a sudden I was getting errors when I tried to run it. I tried reinstalling it but no joy. The error I now get when I try to run rlwrap: No match. I don't use make unless I have to so I don't know all that much about it. I have removing vmd completely to see if that helped. I tried the suggestions it made (I am sorry, I can't remember the details but it was moaning about CUDA and my graphic drivers for a while. I had not updated it or anything. It was fine until I went away from the computer and came back to it like that. If nobody can help I will try reinstalling my system and see if that helps.

  I managed to get as far as optirun glxgear, which worked perfectly, but I am unable to define settings for a specific shell script. In its wiki it says this: optirun [options] <application> [application-parameters] and I don't know what option has to be nor the application-parameter. (I'm really new) If my file is /home/hon/hon.sh, how can I execute it via terminal? If I just type optirun hon or optirun hon.sh it shows this error: /usr/bin/vglrun: 296: exec: hon: not found there I try to find the file /usr/bin/vglrun.   Hello everybody! With Natty coming out soon, I've been at work updating my deployment and self-config script to make my desktop on 11.04 run and look the way I want it to. One bummer is that dbus seems to have changed and does not permit, in the same manner Lucid and Maverick did, the authentication of the current user by terminal call using grep and cat. Ideally, to run the script, I would sudo -s and then launch it as # chmod +x install && ./install Instead of returning my user name.. it now returns root and applies changes to the root profile and aborts whenever paths do not correspond. • How can I compute the Big-O notation for a given piece of code?

  So I just took a data structure midterm today and I was asked to determine the run time, in Big O notation, of the following nested loop: for (int i = 0; i < n-1; i++) { for(int j = 0; j < i; j++2) { //1 Statement } } I'm having trouble understanding the formula behind determining the run time. I thought that since the inner loop has 1 statement, and using the series equation of: (n * (n - 1)) / 2, I figured it to be: 1n * (n-1) / 2. Thus equaling (n^2 - 1) / 2. And so I generalized the runtime to be O(n^2 / 2). I'm not sure this is right though haha, was I supposed to divide my answer again by 2 since j is being upped in intervals of 2? Or is my answer completely off?
