• Example website login/registration code?

  I am looking at building the login/registration part of a website (ASP.NET) and would like to see some example code or instructions on how to do this properly. For example, how to correctly use cookies and how to encrypt what is stored in the cookie to ensure the session persists until they logout/timeout. I do not want to use the builtin ASP.NET Membership/Provider stuff as it looks painful to use and not very flexible. Please do not answer with 'This is how easy the ASP.NET Membership/Providre stuff is to use, just check this out and you will use it!' as I don't want to use it!

• Best package for basic web-based file manager

  I'm looking for a basic web-based file management application. It must have an affordable price, and fairly easy installation would be a plus. ASP.Net / IIS based would be easiest for me to work with. Basically, I'd like it to create a secure web site where myself and a few people can exchange various types of files, etc. I'm looking for a package I can install on my own server rather than a web-based service, as I think I can get more space at a good price point this way. I could go custom coding, but I figure this is such a generic need, there must be something already mature out there at a decent price. What has worked best for you?

• My C# and DLL Data Woes

  Hey guys, I'm a very beginner C# coder. So, if I get some of the terms incorrect, please be easy on me. I'm trying to see if it is possible to pull data from a DLL. I did some research and found that you can store application resources within a DLL. What I couldn't find, was the information to tell me how to do that. There is a MS article that explains how to access resources within a satellite DLL, but I honestly don't know if that is what I'm looking for. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165653.aspx I did try some of the codes involved, but there are some "FileNotFoundExceptions" going on. The rest of the DLL information is showing up: classes, objects, etc. I just added the DLL as a resource in my Visual Studio Project and added it with "using". • Turning an NSImage* into a CGImageRef?

  Is there an easy way to do this that works in 10.5? In 10.6 I can use nsImage CGImageForProposedRect: NULL context: NULL hints: NULL If I'm not using 1b black and white images (Like Group 4 TIFF), I can use bitmaps, but cgbitmaps seem to not like that setup... Is there a general way of doing this? I need to do this because I have an IKImageView that seems to only want to add CGImages, but all I've got are NSImages. Currently, I'm using a private setImage:(NSImage*) method that I'd REALLY REALLY rather not be using...

I'm developing an application with Hibernate 3.5 and Spring 3.0 Pros: Good documentation Easy configuration and helpful logs Popularity - wide community Some extensions to JPA Some additional Tools - JBoss Tools for Eclipse, hbm2ddl, generating static metamodel etc... Cons: Bugs! (Sequences, collections etc...) Lots of reatures are doubled with "pure" Hibernate. There's a mess in legacy Hibernate and JPA annotations. I'm considering to switch to EclipseLink. What do You think ? Edit: I've tried EclipseLink and have very bad experiences. It seems like EclipseLink needs LoadTimeWeaver and likes to run on OSGi platform rather than simple Jetty or Tomcat environment. I just don't have time for all this configuration stuff.

  How to streamline/automate the configuration of Eclipse? Given N developers running a mixture of Ubuntu and Mac OS X, all with the same version of Eclipse, how to make sure that: Each developer, on top of his favourite "Available Software Sites" selection, has a common set of installation sources? Each developer has an easy (automated?) way of installing a base set of plug-ins? Each developer can just as easily install a custom plugin developed in-house and distributed over the local network? No automatically deployed plugins conflict with any others a developer might already be using? I would post this to serverfault.com if it wasn't that I am more interested in a "scripting" answer than a traditional "system management" solution... ;-)

• How to customize a many-to-many inline model in django admin

  I'm using the admin interface to view invoices and products. To make things easy, I've set the products as inline to invoices, so I will see the related products in the invoice's form. As you can see I'm using a many-to-many relationship. In models.py: class Product(models.Model): name = models.TextField() price = models.DecimalField(max_digits=10,decimal_places=2) class Invoice(models.Model): company = models.ForeignKey(Company) customer = models.ForeignKey(Customer) products = models.ManyToManyField(Product) In admin.py: class ProductInline(admin.StackedInline): model = Invoice.products.through class InvoiceAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): inlines = [FilteredApartmentInline,] admin.site.register(Product, ProductAdmin) The problem is that django presents the products as a table of drop down menus (one per associated product). Each drop down contains all the products listed. So if I have 5000 products and 300 are associated with a certain invoice, django actually loads 300x5000 product names. Also the table is not aesthetic. How can I change it so that it'll just display the product's name in the inline table? Which form should I override, and how?

  I have been trying to get Ruby on Rails to migrate a database for the good part of today, the problems all seem to result with this issue, can someone please help! If its a radrails specific problem I guess Ill take this to their forums. • Windows 2003 IIS FTP Server Migration w/ User Accounts

  I'm trying to figure out the best way to migrate an FTP server from old hardware to new hardware. The server is on a domain, but not all the users setup on the server (to use FTP) are domain accounts, some are local to the server. For example, I have users both ways: domain\username machinename\username The new machine name will be different. So I need to copy all the files with permissions in tact from the old server to the new server. Then I need to convert all the user accounts from the old server to the new server. Then I need to change the file permissions so that they are no longer oldserver\username but newserver\username. Can this be accomplished all with CALCS? Is there an easy way that perhaps I'm missing?

  I have an array that has 9 items in it (it may also have 7, 10 or 11 items in it) $anArray = array(1=>'A',2=>'B',3=>'C',4=>'D',5=>'E',6=>'F',7=>'G',8=>'H',9=>'I'); I also have three variables: $A='A'; $B='B'; $C='C'; I need change the first 1/3 of the items in the array from what they are to $A ...the 2nd third to $B ...and the final third to $C Array([1]=>A [2]=>A [3]=>A [4]=>B [5]=>B [6]=>B [7]=>C [8]=>C [9]=>C) Is there an easy and straight-forward way of doing this? Right now I'm doing lots of foreach with counters, etc... and it seems like to much work.

• Run a shell command with arguments from powershell script

  Hello, I need to extract and save a some tables from a remote SQL database using bcp. I would like to write a powershell script to invoke bcp for each table and save the data. So far I have this script that creates the necessary args for bcp. However I can not figure out how to pass the args to bcp. Every time I run the script it just shows the bcp help instead. • Adsense in a ajax based application?

  How do I add adsense or other ads in a asp.net ajax/ajax based application ? (ex. ra-ajax samples page) or GWT Is creating an iframe a viable solution? As stated below, placing adsense script is easy. But the google bot wont be able to scan my ajax based page, as all of the content is javascript. There wont be contextual ads. So wont be able to monetize. It would be great for static ads. Any idea/inputs?

  Hey Guys, I am wondering if anyone can shed some lights on the situation. I am about to start a project and trying to figure out what solution is best to go with asp.net or java jsp pages I have personally worked alot with .net and am really happy with the framework and Visual studio as IDE I find it easy to work with and there is a massive community support behind .net, i can get alot done quickly I have not every written anything use java jsp, there will be a learning curve here , so my experience is limited here. however after seeing jira i am very impressed with its capabilities, it has changed alot since the old days ( java 1.2 ) that i used to work with, and the fact that it runs under linux is a huge plus, so i am trying to decide is the learning curve, worth the price ? so given the situation above what would you recommended?   I have a table defined like this: Column: Version Message Type: varchar(20) varchar(100) ---------------------------------- Row 1: 2.2.6 Message 1 Row 2: 2.2.7 Message 2 Row 3: 2.2.12 Message 3 Row 4: 2.3.9 Message 4 Row 5: 2.3.15 Message 5 I want to write a T-Sql query that will get message for the MAX version number, where the "Version" column represents a software version number. I.e., 2.2.12 is greater than 2.2.7, and 2.3.15 is greater than 2.3.9, etc. Unfortunately, I can't think of an easy way to do that without using CHARINDEX or some complicated other split-like logic. Running this query: SELECT MAX(Version) FROM my_table will yield the erroneous result: 2.3.9 When it should really be 2.3.15. Any bright ideas that don't get too complex?

• Web framework for an application utilizing existing database?

  A legacy web application written using PHP and utilizing MySql database needs to be rewritten completely. However, the existing database structure must not be changed at all. I'm looking for suggestions on which framework would be most suitable for this task? Language candidates are Python, PHP, Ruby and Java. According to many sources it might be challenging to utilize rails effectively with existing database. Also I have not found a way to automatically generate models out of the database. With Django it's very easy to generate models automatically. However I'd appreciate first hand experience on its suitability to work with legacy DBs. Also I appreciate suggestions of other frameworks worth considering.

• Test (with RSpec) a controller outside of a Rails environment

  I'm creating a gem that will generate a controller for the Rails app that will use it. It's been a trial and error process for me when trying to test a controller. When testing models, it's been pretty easy, but when testing controllers, ActionController::TestUnit is not included (as described here). I've tried requiring it, and all similar sounding stuff in Rails but it hasn't worked. What would I need to require in the spec_helper to get the test to work? Thanks!

  If my Perl code has a production code location and "test" code location (e.g. production Perl code us in /usr/code/scripts, test Perl code is in /usr/code/test/scripts; production Perl libraries are in /usr/code/lib/perl and test versions of those libraries are in /usr/code/test/lib/perl, is there an easy way for me to achieve such a setup? The exact requirements are: The code must be THE SAME in production and test location. To clarify, to promote any code (library or script) from test to production, the ONLY thing which needs to happen is literally issuing cp command from test to prod location - both the file name AND file contents must remain identical. Test versions of scripts must call other test scripts and test libraries (if exist) or production libraries (if test libraries do not exist) The code paths must be the same between test and production with the exception of base directory (/usr/code/ vs /usr/code/test/) I will present how we solved the problem as an answer to this question, but I'd like to know if there's a better way.

I tried proguard and it has a really nice GUI, seems really stable, and seems to be the most popular, but it seemed to not like some enumeration on a referenced jar file (not within the code I was trying to obfuscate) which was weird. Yguard seems to require some interaction with ant, which I didn't know too much about. What is a good java obfuscator? It doesn't need to be free, it just needs to work well and be easy to use.

• C# UTF8 output keep encoded characters intact

  Hello, i have a very simple question I can't seem to get my head around. I have a properly encoded UTF8-String I parse into a JObject with Json.NET, fiddle around with some values and write it to the commandline, keeping the encoded characters intact. Everything works great except for the keeping the encoded characters intact part.   i hope i'm just doing something wrong here. Ideally i'm trying to open the connection, open a transaction execute a ton of prebuilt sqlstatements (with parameters) against this connection then close the connection. ideally all in the same batch. It's easy enough to wrap this all in a for loop, however i'd like to use the forEach function of the list generic to set the connection as it'll probably be faster than my implementation of calling List.Item(i) in the loop but i get some strange errors. • Is it possible to use best_in_place with typeahead from twitter bootstrap?

  Basically, I am using best_in_place in my rails webapp to let users edit their profile info in place. The thing is, I would like users to be presented with a typeahead form for certain entries.. Here's what I'm working with: <p>College/University: <input type="text" class="span3" style="margin: 0 auto;" data-provide="typeahead" data-items="8" data-source='["University of Pennsylvania","Harvard","Yale","Princeton","Cornell","Brown","Columbia","Dartmouth"]'></p> This gives me a working form box with typeahead. However, I want to be able to wrap this in best_in_place with something like <%= best_in_place @student, :education %> so that users only see the typeahead form when they click on the text, and upon clicking away from the box or hitting enter the selection is stored in the database. Is there a reasonably easy way to do this?

  I have a UITabBar in the detail view of my navigation based application. I am storing text and images in a tableview and would like the user to be able to tap on a cell to hide the navigation controller and the tabbar for full screen viewing of the content. I found this code for hiding the top bars, but it does not seem as easy to hide the tabbar. [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarHidden:YES animated:YES]; [self.navigationController setNavigationBarHidden:YES animated:YES]; Does anyone know how to do this?
