  Hi all, I have a UITableView in iPhone with enough cell to make it scrollable. I would like to have a subview display whenever I click on a cell, rather than using the navigation controller behaviour. The problem is that I cannot calculate the CGRect exactly to have the subview always centered in page, because the CGRect is calculated from top of table, and if I scroll table and click cell, the subview will be added out of screen. The solution could be easy, but I don't know if it's possible: identify the portion of the current viewable area of the UITableView and obtain in some way the frame and therefore origin and size, then build a subview based on such coordinates. Do you think it's possible without writing not too much code ? thanks Leonardo

  Im building a new web-app, LAMP environment... im wondering if preg_match can be trusted for user's input validation (+ prepared stmt, of course) for all the text-based fields (aka not html fields; phone, name, surname, etc..).   I need to connect to a Bluetooth device through virtual COM port created in Windows. It's easy when the port has been already created during manual pairing procedure. But I would like my application to relieve an user from the manual pairing of a device. I would like to present all devices in the range, allow user to chose one, and then create virtual COM port connected with the selected device. I'm not trying to avoid the pairing procedure itself, but rather I would like to invoke it by my application. I started getting familiar with Microsoft Bluetooth API. And then some doubts arose. I've been wondering what happen if some user would use different (than Microsoft's) Bluetooth stack? Is the Microsoft's API the real Bluetooth API, which have to be implemented by any other Bluetooth stack provider? Or rather each provider has its own API, and the Microsoft's is only one of many other?

  Back when migration version numbers were simply incremented as you created migrations, it was easy enough to do: rake migrate VERSION=097 rake migrate VERSION=098 rake migrate VERSION=099 rake migrate VERSION=100 ...but we now have migration numbers that are something like YYYYMMDDtimeofday. Not that this is a bad thing - it keeps the migration version collisions to a minimum - but when I have 50 migrations and want to step through them one-at-a-time, it is a hassle: rake migrate VERSION=20090129215142 rake migrate VERSION=20090129219783 ...etc. I have to have a list of all the migrations open in front of me, typing out the version numbers to advance by one. Is there anything that would have an easier syntax, like: rake migrate VERSION=NEXT or rake migrate VERSION=PREV ?

  Hey Guys, This question seems ridiculously easy, but I seem to be stuck. Lets say we have a table "Books" Each Book, has a name, description, and a status. Lets say I want to create link in the show view, that when clicked, solely changes the status (to "read") for example. So far, I've tried adding a block in the controller, that says: def read @book = Book.find(params[:id]) @book.status = "Read" @book.update_attributes(params[:book]) respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to :back} format.xml { render :xml => @book } end end Then I've added a link to the view that is like: <%= link_to "Read", read_book_path(@book), :method = :put % This isn't working at all.   Nowa days I'm working with the Vi editor with the positive approach that you can do most things using it - unlike other editors. I came across one problem: Let's assume I have open a folder with vi <folder name> so it opens the folder in Vi and lists the files in that folder. I select a file and read the content, then I want to go back to the previous view which has filenames listed so it is easy to choose another file. But don't know how to achieve this.   I have made a Silverlight application which can read data from various URLs. So users of the application who control a website can: FTP text and XML files onto their website put a clientaccesspolicy.xml in their root directory enter their URL in the silverlight application at which point the silverlight application then begins reading data from their site. I would like to extend this to less technical users who do not control a website, aren't adept with FTP, etc. What is the best service on the web that: allows users to publish different kinds of data, e.g. put out text files on web allows Silverlight client access (has clientaccesspolicy.xml set up) Some ideas are: free blog services (although then they are limited to a RSS feed, or the silverlight app would have to do some screen scraping) Google Docs? free cloud services? What free services allow easy publishing of any kind of data on the web and allow Silverlight client access?

• Why not standard Android emulators?

  I'm new to Android, but have published iphone and bberry apps. I see that I have to create an emulator using the SDK, before I can write and test an app. Why are there no default emulators? Why not at least a Nexus one, or HTC hero emulator shipped with the product? Sure its supposed to be flexible, but why not make it easy to create hello world and play around with a virtual Android phone? Both blackberry and iphone come with default simulators when you download the sdk. Thanks, Gerry

• Redirecting from ASP.NET WebForms to MVC

  Hi there, We have a large existing ASP.NET WebForms application, but we are now moving over to MVC. Rather than go through a painful process of trying to integrate MVC into the existing app, we're looking at creating a brand new VS project to completely isolate the new code. As a first step, we are wanting to use the existing login process of the WebForms app, then redirect over to the MVC app. Does anyone know of an easy way to do this (i.e. redirect from a WebForms project to the MVC project, in the same VS solution)? All the information I've found so far suggests either starting from scratch in MVC, or combing MVC into the existing Webforms project - neither of which is very feasible. Many thanks, Paul

  I've a jQuery.each(data, foo), where data is either a string or a list of strings. I'd like to know if there's an existing utility function to convert the string to a list, or otherwise perform foo on just the string. So instead of the easy route: if (!$.isArray(data)) { foo(0, data); // can't rely on `this` variable } else { $.each(data,foo); } I was just wondering if there was already a builtin function of jQuery or Javascript that would convert data to a list automatically, like this: function convert_to_list(data) { return $.isArray(data) ? data : [data]; } $.each(convert_to_list(data), foo); Just curious!   I want to keep track of all items added to uber cart. I.e. Whenever someone clicks ADD TO CART, I want to: create a database entry of the time and item added. This way I can see which items are most clicked on. The logic to add it to a db etc is easy to do. What I need to know is, how do I plug into the "add to cart" part. I.e. How do I know when this has been clicked?

• HTML is not being interpreted after JQuery's .ajax function

  Hello there... Once I have retrived an HTML string with the $.ajax function I put it into a div... the HTML is a simple message with a <b> tag, but it's not being interpreted by the browser, I mean, the <b> is not making the text bold.   I have ELMAH setup on my production server and it has done a fantastic job of letting me know about any niggles - as well as any creative SQL injection! I've decided to introduce URl Rewriting and went for http://www.urlrewriting.net/ in the end. It was nice and easy to setup and it's doing exactly what I want with the customer-facing site. The problem is ELMAH. • 2 way synchronization of in-house gitosis repositories server with Github repositories

  We use gitosis as our local in-house shared repository and also have a private Github account that mirrors our local repository. If one does a git push to the in-house repository the post-update hook updates the Github repository. How can I make this two way without causing "loops"? I.e. if someone pushes to the Github repository, I would like it to also update the in-house gitosis repository. A pointer to an example of how to do it would be greatly appreciated. Or if there are recommendations of alternatives to gitosis that would make this kind of thing easy, I would consider migrating to that.

  If my Perl code has a production code location and "beta" code location (e.g. production Perl code us in /usr/code/scripts, BETA Perl code is in /usr/code/beta/scripts; production Perl libraries are in /usr/code/lib/perl and BETA versions of those libraries are in /usr/code/beta/lib/perl, is there an easy way for me to achieve such a setup? The exact requirements are: The code must be THE SAME in production and BETA location. To clarify, to promote any code (library or script) from BETA to production, the ONLY thing which needs to happen is literally issuing cp command from BETA to prod location - both the file name AND file contents must remain identical. BETA versions of scripts must call other BETA scripts and BETA libraries (if exist) or production libraries (if BETA libraries do not exist) The code paths must be the same between BETA and production with the exception of base directory (/usr/code/ vs /usr/code/beta/) I will present how we solved the problem as an answer to this question, but I'd like to know if there's a better way.

• Referencing assemblies created with ILMerge in Visual Studio projects

  I have a solution in Visual Studio with 5 projects. They are: Foo.Core: Core functionality Foo.Api: Generated code built on top of core Foo.Web: Web-specific extensions Foo.Web.Mvc: MVC-specific extensions Newtonsoft.Json: 3rd party library I want to use ILMerge to merge Foo.Core, Foo.Api and Newtonsoft.Json into a single assembly, called Foo. That's the easy part. The problem I'm running into is that Foo.Web and Foo.Web.Mvc both need to reference all three of the merged assemblies. If I reference the original assemblies, they will have invalid references after I do the ILMerge. If I reference the ILMerged assembly, I have to reference a debug assembly and then change it before I package everything up, which doesn't seem ideal. I've tried creating a project called Foo, which references the 3 merged assemblies and replaces its own output with the ILmerged assembly, but that doesn't seem to work at all. Is there a reliable way to do this?

  When I do PHP, I use XAMPP to set up a development environment on Windows, then upload to Linux servers, works very well. I'm now passing on a PHP project to a person who has a Mac so he needs a local PHP dev environment. I noticed XAMPP has a version for Mac which I will recommend. But knowing that Mac is always a bit different, has anyone used any other easy PHP environment setup tool for the Mac, or I could even imagine that Mac solves this issue more elegantly by e.g. having a web server ready to go upon first boot etc. What is the best way to set up a PHP development environment on a Mac?
