    I have a lot of code in a class library that does not specify CultureInfo.InvariantCulture. For example in toString operations, toBool, toInt, etc. Is there a way I can get set a property for the class library to always execute using CultureInfo.InvariantCulture, even if it is not explicitly specified everywhere in the code? Sort of like a global switch? It is not only messy to have to explicitly type it everytime, it makes my code less readable, and is a royal pain for example: if (Convert.ToInt16(task.RetryCount, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) < Convert.ToInt16(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["TasksMaxRetry"], CultureInfo.InvariantCulture))

There are two different ways (at least) to set the DataContext. One can use XAML or one can use the code behind. What is the 'best practice' and why? I tend to favor setting it in XAML because it allows a designer to define collections on their own but I need 'ammunition' on why it's a best practice or why I'm crazy and the code behind is the bomb...

  • Why does setting document.domain require me to set it in all popups and iframes too?

    I'm using a long-polling iframe solution for a chat script. Unfortunately, this requires me to set document.domain='yourdomain.com' in the iframe and main document, because the iframe is a subdomain call. The huge problem is...now all my other scripts that use popups and iframes are broken. They now require me to put document.domain in them too. It does fix it, but this is not an ideal solution at all. Is there another way around this problem?

    Hi - I've been using Log4Perl extensively in a number of scripts. I'd like to augment those scripts to set an error code if any WARN or ERROR messages have been logged. I couldn't find any obvious way to do this based on existing documentation. I'd like to avoid a brute-force rewrite of my existing scripts to add a check on every WARN or ERROR log message; I'd prefer to handle it prior to script exit if possible like this pseudocode: if $log->has_warnings_or_errors then exit 1 else exit 0 Is there any easy way to call Log4Perl to determine if the current logger has issues messages of certain levels? For its EditorPart.ApplyChanges method I set the return value to false whenever there is an error. In the EditorZone I get a standard error message indicating that some error happened to the editor, but I want to change that message. Is that possible?   • Why do I have to set the max length of every damn text column in the database?

    Why is it that every RDBMS insists that you tell it what the max length of a text field is going to be... why can't it just infer this information form the data that's put into the database? I've mostly worked with MS SQL Server, but every other database I know also demands that you set these arbitrary limits on your data schema. The reality is that this is not particulay helpful or friendly to work with becuase the business requirements change all the time and almost every day some end-user is trying to put a lot of text into that column. Does any one with some inner working knowledge of a RDBMS know why we just don't infer the limits from the data that's put into the storage? I'm not talking about guessing the type information, but guessing the limits of a particular text column. I mean, there's a reason why I don't use nvarchar(max) on every text column in the database.

    In my environment my Dev and QA Database Instances are on the same server. I would like to deploy the same package (or different versions of the package) into SSIS and set the filter to select different rows in the Config table. Is this possible? This is SQL 2005. For the sake of this question lets say I have one variable, which is a directory path. I would like to have these variables in the table twice (with different Filters applied (Dev and QA) as below (simplified) . . . Filter / Variable Value / Variable Name Dev / c:\data\dev / FilePath QA / c:\data\qa / FilePath Do I need to apply a change within the settings of the package in SSIS or is it changed on the job step within Agent?     I'm working on a Rails application where I have some a set of two radio buttons where users can click "yes" or "no". The MySQL DB column created by the ActiveRecord migration is a tinyint. If the user doesn't click either radio button I want MySQL to store NULL. (The column allows NULL.) And when they come back to edit the data, neither button should be checked. What's happening is that ActiveRecord is storing 0 and then when I come back the "No" button is checked. Rails 2.3.5 Form code (I'm using Haml): = f.radio_button( :model_attribute, true ) Yes = f.radio_button( :model_attribute, false ) No (In retrospect it probably would have been better to use a single checkbox, but it would be difficult to change that now.)

    I have a dynamically generated UITableView (so I have to use prototype cells, not static cells) with many cells on it. Each cell will have a UILabel on it. Additionally, each cell will also have at least one UIControl (as of right now, it could be a UITextfield or a UISegmentedControl, but I want to keep it flexible in case I add something else in the future). I'm going to need to be able to send the text in that label, and get either the text in the textfield, or the title of the selected segment index, etc. For the cells with multiple controls, I'm going to have to also let it know what control I'm interested in for that call. What would be the best way to set this up?

    Steps to reproduce in designer for Qt 4.8.0 I create a new dialog form in Qt Designer I add a QStackedWidget to the dialog I set the layout of the dialog to make the stacked layout size with the dialog I add a few controls to page one in the stacked widget I select the first page in the stacked widget in the right hand tree view of controls The icon next to that page (which is a QWidget) shows the page is missing a layout When I click one of the layout buttons above, it doesn't change the layout of the page QWidget, it changes the layout of the dialog even though I had explicitly selected the page. Is this a bug in designer? Am I missing something? I really don't want to add the layouts programatically as that prevents me from being able to layout the pages in designer in the same .ui file

    i want to set the value of inputLineNumber to 20. I tried checking if no value is given by user by [[-z "$inputLineNumber"]] and then setting the value by inputLineNumber=20. The code seems to be working correct when no value is given but I also receive ./t.sh: [-z: not found as message on the console. Is there some way to not print this message. Then I did: sudo visudo and added this row: myusername ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /home/scriptname rebooted and... Multitouch works but wifi not. When I manually launch the script it asks for sudo password so I thought it was because of modprobe and insmod commands and I've added those commands to sudo visudo. Nothing. What am I doing wrong?
