• How to functionally generate a tree breadth-first. (With Haskell)

  Say I have the following Haskell tree type, where "State" is a simple wrapper: data Tree a = Branch (State a) [Tree a] | Leaf (State a) deriving (Eq, Show) I also have a function "expand :: Tree a - Tree a" which takes a leaf node, and expands it into a branch, or takes a branch and returns it unaltered. This tree type represents an N-ary search-tree. Searching depth-first is a waste, as the search-space is obviously infinite, as I can easily keep on expanding the search-space with the use of expand on all the tree's leaf nodes, and the chances of accidentally missing the goal-state is huge... thus the only solution is a breadth-first search, implemented pretty decent over here, which will find the solution if it's there. What I want to generate, though, is the tree traversed up to finding the solution. This is a problem because I only know how to do this depth-first, which could be done by simply called the "expand" function again and again upon the first child node... until a goal-state is found. (This would really not generate anything other then a really uncomfortable list.) Could anyone give me any hints on how to do this (or an entire algorithm), or a verdict on whether or not it's possible with a decent complexity? (Or any sources on this, because I found rather few.)

We would like to create masked directories for quicker access like \\marketing that would point to \\apollo\marketing.oems. I've done research and have not come across any real answers, although I know it's possible Any help would be appreciated.

• lubuntu issues with desktop directory

  My lubuntu 12.04 is upgraded from the 11.10 version and I'm a Chinese user. What surprises me is that the directory shown on the initial screen is always changing! recently It seems to be mapped with the directory called w in my home directory(~). However when using pcmanfm to open the directory it usually shows odd string as to the name of the folder that cannot be print, which I think may be some Chinese characters.The directory also sometimes fails to appear in the window appeared first when logged in. I know the lxde has no conception of the shown folder and I think the lubuntu team has done some optimization. Can someone tell me what's happening?Thanks in advance.

• Spanning-tree setup with incompatible switches

  I have a set of eight HP ProCurve 2910al-48G Ethernet switches at my datacenter that are set up in a star topology with no physical loops. I want to partially mesh the switches for redundancy and manage the loops with a spanning-tree protocol. However, our connection to the datacenter is provided by two uplinks, each to a Cisco 3750. The datacenter's switches are handling the redundant connection using PVST spanning-tree, which is a Cisco-proprietary spanning-tree implementation that my HP switches do not support. It appears that my switches are not participating in the datacenter's spanning-tree domain, but are blindly passing the BPDUs between the two switchports on my side, which enables the datacenter's switches to recognize the loop and put one of the uplinks into the Blocking state. This is somewhat supposition, but I can confirm that, while my switches say that both of the uplink ports are forwarding, only one is passing any real quantity of data. (I am assuming that I cannot get the datacenter to move away from PVST. I don't know that I'd want them to make that significant of a change anyway.) My question is: how do I configure my switches so that I can use a spanning tree protocol inside my switch infrastructure without breaking the datacenter's spanning tree that I cannot participate in?

• Expanding your home directory size

  I would like to copy or expand my /home directory ... All tutorials talks about moving the home directory from a partition to another but the problem that I only have one partition that was more than 300 gigs (before I resize it and create a new partition) although I see 30 Gigs only on my home directory (4 Gigs left :( ) I resized it and created a new partition as you can see in the next image I've tried booting from Ubuntu live CD and from a USB and what I can see in Gparted is exactly as in the picture below I would like to move my home directory to the new partition of expand it. • Allow sudo on specific file from active directory group

  I have an Ubuntu Server 12.04 box that has active directory integration running on it. I want to allow a certain active directory group access to execute a script as sudo. I want to do something like this: %programmers ALL=NOPASSWD: /usr/local/bin/createSambaShare.php When I log in with my active directory user and issue groups I do not see the group programmers, but I am a part of the programmers group within active directory. I've set up the group under the Unix attributes tab and given it an id of 1000 and added my user to it. My first thought was that I needed to add the group to the Ubuntu box. When I tried to do that, it told me that the programmers group already existed. What am I missing here?

• C# class in a directory without having the directory name in its namespace

  Hi ! If you add a directory in your Visual Studio project and you add a class inside it, the namespace will respect the whole path the directory inclusive. But sometimes, I prefer having the class in the main project namespace, although it lies in a directory structure, just because I don't want to have mess in my code. So often happens that I rewrite the Myproject.MyDirectory namespace to be Myproject only. Is it OK in your opinion? Or does any convention say that every class inside the directory must have it included in the namespace ? Thanks

  I've been reading a bit about how interpreters/compilers work, and one area where I'm getting confused is the difference between an AST and a CST. My understanding is that the parser makes a CST, hands it to the semantic analyzer which turns it into an AST. However, my understanding is that the semantic analyzer simply ensures that rules are followed. I don't really understand why it would actually make any changes to make it abstract rather than concrete. Is there something that I'm missing about the semantic analyzer, or is the difference between an AST and CST somewhat artificial?

  Consider the deletion procedure on a BST, when the node to delete has two children. Let's say i always replace it with the node holding the minimum key in its right subtree. The question is: is this procedure commutative? That is, deleting x and then y has the same result than deleting first y and then x? I think the answer is no, but i can't find a counterexample, nor figure out any valid reasoning. EDIT: Maybe i've got to be clearer. Consider the transplant(node x, node y) procedure: it replace x with y (and its subtree). So, if i want to delete a node (say x) which has two children i replace it with the node holding the minimum key in its right subtree: y = minimum(x.right) transplant(y, y.right) // extracts the minimum (it doesn't have left child) y.right = x.right y.left = x.left transplant(x,y) The question was how to prove the procedure above is not commutative.

  This is my first ever trial at implementing the BST, and I am unable to get it done. Please help The problem is that When I delete the node if the node is in the right subtree from the root or if its a right child in the left subtree, then it works fine. But if the node is in the left subtree from root and its any left child, then it does not get deleted. • Problem with building tree bottom up

  Hi, I have problems building a binary tree from the bottom up. THe input of the tree would be internal nodes of the trees with the children of this node being the leaves of the eventual tree. So initially if the tree is empty the root would be the first internal node. Afterwards, The next internal node to be added would be the new root(NR), with the old root(OR) being one of the child of NR. And so on. The problem i have is that whenever i add a NR, the children of the OR seems to be lost when i do a inOrder traversal. This is proven to be the case when i do a getSize() call which returns the same number of nodes before and after addNode(Tree,Node) Any help with resolving this problem is appreciated edited with the inclusion of node class code. both tree and node classes have the addChild methods because i'm not very sure where to put them for it to be appropriated. any comments on this would be appreciated too. • Home directory messed up

  Recently, I installed Ubuntu 12.04. For some reason, i backed-up my home directory contents to another directory(say bkp dir). Precisely, I moved Documents, Pictures, Downloads, etc.. to bkp directory. Now, Deleted all my original home directory contents. I restored all the bkp directory content back to home. I find them all on my Desktop. I believe some kinda chain is broken. I dont find respective home directories icons on them. How do i restore it? Also, i dont find them in my places options. • How to procedurally (create) grow an artistic (2D) tree in real-time (L-System?).

  Recently I programmed an L-system module, It got me interested further. I am a Plants vs Zombies junkie as well, really liked the concept of Tree of Wisdom. Would love to create similar procedural art just for fun and learn more. Question: How should I approach the process of creating an artistic tree (2d perhaps with fixed camera/perspective) dynamically? Ideally I would like to start with a plant (only a stem with a leaf) and grow it dynamically using some influence (input/user action) over its structure. These influences may result in different type of branching, curves in branches, its spread, location of fruits, color of flowers, etc. Want it to be really full of life/spirit. :) Plants vs Zombies: Tree of wisdom It would be great to dynamically grow a similar tree, but with lot more variation and animations happening. My Background: Student / Programmer, have used few game engines (Ogre3d, cocos2d, unity). Haven't really programmed directly using openGL, trying to fix that :). I am ready to spend considerable time, Please let me know about the APIs? and how would an expert like you would take on this problem? Why 2D? I think it's easier to solve the problem only considering 2 dimensions. Now I want to grab all directories with the name test in that directory tree and move them into a new directory called tests, e.g.: src->com->a1 -> A.java -> B.java -> test -> test1.java -> test2.java to src->com->a1 -> A.java -> B.java tests->com->a1->test -> test1.java -> test2.java How would I best do that?

• transparent home directory encryption

  #1 I'm very new to the ubuntu home directory encryption or rather ecryptfs folder encryption. I read about the same within Dustin's blog & tried implementing it. Problem or query is my home directory is encrypted & has a www folder ... now when I reboot the system the decryption doesnt happen at startup/boot & apache is not able to find the files rather the folder www since it is not mounted ... in order to mount it I have to login .... is there a way by which an encrypted home / private folder can be mounted at boot without human intervention ? #2 I have installed ubuntu server 11.10 & had selected "encrypt home directory" when installing the same. With ubuntu things are working transparently even after reboot & without logging in. Kindly can anyone pls explain or guide on the same ?

  A newbie here. I am trying to set up Eclipse for Linux Kernel Programming. The guide says set the project location as the root directory of the kernel. Where's the root directory of the kernel now? According to Linux file hierarchy system, it lists /lib as the root directory for shared libraries and kernel modules. I also see /lib32 and /lib64. However, I tried proceeding selecting /lib as the location and eclipse doesn't allow me to create the project.

  Currently I have a couple of websites. My problem is that if I login on 1 specific domain with any of my programs (using notepadd++, FileZilla and Netbeans) the program stops at the content listing. I had it correctly running, (I'm working on a project on this domain for more than a year now) and suddenly I broke it somehow. This only happens on 1 specific domain, all other domains (from other hosts) are working. My colleague (next to me with same ip address) is able to login on this domain. (Because I have the setting upload on save enabled.) What I tried: First I thought it's my firewall, I disabled firewall but no result. Also notice that all other domain are working. • Go to the parent directory in Files/Nautilus Ubuntu 12.10

  In Ubuntu 12.10 (Gnome3) they've removed the "go to parent directory" using Backspace. I was very used to it... I've seen in source code comments that they've removed this support and there are at least 3 other ways of achieving the same. I wonder - what are other ways besides the Alt + up? Basically, I'd like to find out how to enable the Backspace key to go to the parent directory or at least know the shortcut for doing it with one hand (Alt + up is useless).
