  • Unable to decode hex values in javascript tooltip

    - by staudk27
    Hi all, I have quite the process that we go through in order to display some e-mail communications in our application. Trying to keep it as general as possible... -We make a request to a service via XML -Get the XML reply string, send the string to a method to encode any invalid characters as follows: public static String convertUTF8(String value) { char[] chars = value.toCharArray(); StringBuffer retVal = new StringBuffer(chars.length); for (int i = 0; i < chars.length; i++) { char c = chars[i]; int chVal = (int)c; if (chVal > Byte.MAX_VALUE) { retVal.append("&#x").append(Integer.toHexString(chVal)).append(";"); } else { retVal.append(c); } } return retVal.toString(); } We then send that result of a string to another method to remove any other invalid characters: public static String removeInvalidCharacters(String inString) { if (inString == null){ return null; } StringBuffer newString = new StringBuffer(); char ch; char c[] = inString.toCharArray(); for (int i = 0; i < c.length; i++) { ch = c[i]; // remove any characters outside the valid UTF-8 range as well as all control characters // except tabs and new lines if ((ch < 0x00FD && ch > 0x001F) || ch == '\t' || ch == '\n' || ch == '\r') { newString.append(ch); } } return newString.toString(); } This string is then "unmarshal'ed" via the SaxParser The object is then sent back to our Display action which generated the response to the calling jsp/javascript to create the page. The issue is some text can contain characters which can't be processed correctly. The following is eventually rendered on the JSP just fine: <PrvwCommTxt>This is a new test. Have a*&amp;#xc7;&amp;#xb4;)&amp;#xa1;.&amp;#xf1;&amp;#xc7;&amp;#xa1;.&amp;#xf1;*&amp;#xc7;&amp;#xb4;)...</PrvwCommTxt> Which shows up as "This is a new test. Have a*Ç´)¡.ñÇ¡." in the browser. -The following shows up in a tooltip while hovering over the above text: <CommDetails>This is a new test. Have a*Ç´)¡.ñÇ¡.ñ*Ç´)¡.ñ*´)(¡.ñÇ(¡.ñÇ* Wonderful Day!</CommDetails> This then shows up incorrectly when rendered in the tooltip javascript with all the HEX values and not being rendered correctly. Any suggestions on how to make the unknown characters show correctly in javascript?

  • Searching for the J. R. "Bob" Dobbs screensaver from Slackware to install in 13.10

    - by kiloseven
    I have seen on older (ca. 2004) RHEL systems a screensaver, xlock, with a twisting and morphing picture of J. R. "Bob" Dobbs. An extensive search of screensavers available for Ubuntu has not provided revelation. Does any SubGenius out there know where I may find it for the current Lubuntu ver. 13.10? Thank you kindly. Where do I expect to find it? Well, every screensaver app available via Synaptic and Ubuntu Software Center has been checked, to no avail. I have also done an extensive search for it via multiple search engines, not merely looking at the first screen in a Google Search. That's why I am asking here. How might I import that app from Slackware's repository into Lubuntu?

  • SOA’s People Problem by Bob Rhubart

    - by JuergenKress
    Are reluctant passengers slowing down your SOA train? Based on my conversations with various experts in service-oriented architecture (SOA), the consensus is that SOA tools and technology have achieved a high level of maturity. Some even use the term industrialization to describe the current state of SOA. Given that scenario, one might assume that SOA has been wildly successful for every organization that has adopted its principles. Obviously SOA could not have achieved its current level of maturity and industrialization without having reached a tipping point in the volume of success stories to drive continued adoption. But some organizations continue to struggle with SOA. The problem, according to some experts, has little to do with tools or technologies. “One of the greatest challenges to implementing SOA has nothing to do with the intrinsic complexity behind a SOA technology platform,” says Oracle ACE Luis Augusto Weir, senior Oracle solution director at HCL AXON. “The real difficulty lies in dealing with people and processes from different parts of the business and aligning them to deliver enterprisewide solutions.” What can an organization do to meet that challenge? “Staff the right people,” says Weir. “For example, the role of a SOA architect should be as much about integrating people as it is about integrating systems. Dealing with people from different departments, backgrounds, and agendas is a huge challenge. The SOA architect role requires someone that not only has a sound architectural and technological background but also has charisma and human skills, and can communicate equally well to the business and technical teams.” The SOA architect’s communication skills are instrumental in establishing service orientation as the guiding principle across the organization. “A consistent architecture comprising both business services and IT services can comprehensively redefine the role of IT at the process level,” says Danilo Schmiedel, solution architect at Opitz Consulting. That helps to shift the focus from siloes to services and get SOA on track. To that end, Oracle ACE Director Lonneke Dikmans, a managing partner at Vennster, stresses the importance of replacing individual, uncoordinated projects with a focused program that promotes communication, cooperation, and service reuse. “Having support among lead developers and architects helps, as does having sponsors that see the business case and understand the strategic value,” she says. • Encrypt a hex string in java.

    - by twintwins
    I would like to ask for any suggestions about my problem. I need to encrypt a hexadecimal string. I must not to use the built-in functions of java because it doesn't work in my server. In short, I have to hard code an algorithm or any means of encrypting the message. Anyone who could help me with this? thanks a lot! here is the code. public Encrypt(SecretKey key, String algorithm) { try { ecipher = Cipher.getInstance(algorithm); dcipher = Cipher.getInstance(algorithm); ecipher.init(Cipher.ENCRYPT_MODE, key); dcipher.init(Cipher.DECRYPT_MODE, key); } catch (NoSuchPaddingException e) { System.out.println("EXCEPTION: NoSuchPaddingException"); } catch (NoSuchAlgorithmException e) { System.out.println("EXCEPTION: NoSuchAlgorithmException"); } catch (InvalidKeyException e) { System.out.println("EXCEPTION: InvalidKeyException"); } } public void useSecretKey(String secretString) { try { SecretKey desKey = KeyGenerator.getInstance("DES").generateKey(); SecretKey blowfishKey = KeyGenerator.getInstance("Blowfish").generateKey(); SecretKey desedeKey = KeyGenerator.getInstance("DESede").generateKey(); Encrypt desEncrypter = new Encrypt(desKey, desKey.getAlgorithm()); Encrypt blowfishEncrypter = new Encrypt(blowfishKey, blowfishKey.getAlgorithm()); Encrypt desedeEncrypter = new Encrypt(desedeKey, desedeKey.getAlgorithm()); desEncrypted = desEncrypter.encrypt(secretString); blowfishEncrypted = blowfishEncrypter.encrypt(secretString); desedeEncrypted = desedeEncrypter.encrypt(secretString); } catch (NoSuchAlgorithmException e) {} } those are the methods i used. no problem if it is run as an application but then when i put it to my server which is the glassfish server an exception occured and it says no such algorithm.

  • PHP: Simple, Validate if string is hex?

    - by oni-kun
    I have no clue how to validate this string. I am simply supplying an IV for an encryption, but can find no "is_hex()" or similar function, I can't wrap my head around it! I read on a comment in the php documentation (user contrib. notes) this: if($iv == dechex(hexdec($iv))) { //True } else { //False } But that doesn't seem to work at all.. It only says false. If it helps my input of my IV would be this: 92bff433cc639a6d

  • Nearest color algorithm using Hex Triplet

    - by Lijo
    Following page list colors with names http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colors. For example #5D8AA8 Hex Triplet is "Air Force Blue". This information will be stored in a databse table (tbl_Color (HexTriplet,ColorName)) in my system Suppose I created a color with #5D8AA7 Hex Triplet. I need to get the nearest color available in the tbl_Color table. The expected anaser is "#5D8AA8 - Air Force Blue". This is because #5D8AA8 is the nearest color for #5D8AA7. Do we have any algorithm for finding the nearest color? How to write it using C# / Java? • Convert hex to decimal keeping fractional part in Lua

    - by Zack Mulgrew
    Lua's tonumber function is nice but can only convert unsigned integers unless they are base 10. I have a situation where I have numbers like 01.4C that I would like to convert to decimal. I have a crummy solution: function split(str, pat) local t = {} local fpat = "(.-)" .. pat local last_end = 1 local s, e, cap = str:find(fpat, 1) while s do if s ~= 1 or cap ~= "" then table.insert(t,cap) end last_end = e+1 s, e, cap = str:find(fpat, last_end) end if last_end <= #str then cap = str:sub(last_end) table.insert(t, cap) end return t end -- taken from http://lua-users.org/wiki/SplitJoin function hex2dec(hexnum) local parts = split(hexnum, "[\.]") local sigpart = parts[1] local decpart = parts[2] sigpart = tonumber(sigpart, 16) decpart = tonumber(decpart, 16) / 256 return sigpart + decpart end print(hex2dec("01.4C")) -- output: 1.296875 I'd be interested in a better solution for this if there is one.

  • Chrome causing 404's ending with "/cache/[hex-string]/"?

    - by Jan Fabry
    Since the last weeks we see many 404's on our sites caused by Chrome adding /cache/[hex-string]/ to the current page URL. The hex strings we have seen are: e9c5ecc3f9d7fa1291240700c8da0728 1d292296547f895c613a210468b705b7 408cfdf76534ee8f14657ac884946ef2 9b0771373b319ba4f132b9447c7060a4 b8cd4270356f296f1c5627aa88d43349 If you search for these strings you get matches from different sites, but they are most likely auto-generated (/search/cache/e9c5ecc3f9d7fa1291240700c8da0728/ for example). Is this a known issue with Chrome (or an extension)?

  • Hex to Decimal conversion in C

    - by darkie15
    Hi All, Here is my code which is doing the conversion from hex to decimal. The hex values are stored in a unsigned char array: int liIndex ; long hexToDec ; unsigned char length[4]; for (liIndex = 0; liIndex < 4 ; liIndex++) { length[liIndex]= (unsigned char) *content; printf("\n Hex value is %.2x", length[liIndex]); content++; } hexToDec = strtol(length, NULL, 16); Each array element contains 1 byte of information and I have read 4 bytes. When I execute it, here is the output that I get : Hex value is 00 Hex value is 00 Hex value is 00 Hex value is 01 Chunk length is 0 Can any one please help me understand the error here. Th decimal value should have come out as 1 instead of 0. Regards, darkie

  • How to convert from hex-encoded string to a "human readable" string?

    - by John Jensen
    I'm using the Net-SNMP bindings for python and I'm attempting to grab an ARP cache from a Brocade switch. Here's what my code looks like: #!/usr/bin/env python import netsnmp def get_arp(): oid = netsnmp.VarList(netsnmp.Varbind('ipNetToMediaPhysAddress')) res = netsnmp.snmpwalk(oid, Version=2, DestHost='10.0.1.243', Community='public') return res arp_table = get_arp() print arp_table The SNMP code itself is working fine. Output from snmpwalk looks like this: <snip> IP-MIB::ipNetToMediaPhysAddress.128.10.200.6.158 = STRING: 0:1b:ed:a3:ec:c1 IP-MIB::ipNetToMediaPhysAddress.129.10.200.6.162 = STRING: 0:1b:ed:a4:ac:c1 IP-MIB::ipNetToMediaPhysAddress.130.10.200.6.166 = STRING: 0:1b:ed:38:24:1 IP-MIB::ipNetToMediaPhysAddress.131.10.200.6.170 = STRING: 74:8e:f8:62:84:1 </snip> But my output from the python script yields a tuple of hex-encoded strings that looks like this: ('\x00$8C\x98\xc1', '\x00\x1b\xed;_A', '\x00\x1b\xed\xb4\x8f\x81', '\x00$86\x15\x81', '\x00$8C\x98\x81', '\x00\x1b\xed\x9f\xadA', ...etc) I've spent some time googling and came across the struct module and the .decode("hex") string method, but the .decode("hex") method doesn't seem to work: Python 2.7.3 (default, Apr 10 2013, 06:20:15) [GCC 4.6.3] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> hexstring = '\x00$8C\x98\xc1' >>> newstring = hexstring.decode("hex") Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "/usr/lib/python2.7/encodings/hex_codec.py", line 42, in hex_decode output = binascii.a2b_hex(input) TypeError: Non-hexadecimal digit found >>> And the documentation for struct is a bit over my head.

  • How to scroll hex tiles?

    - by Chris Evans
    I don't seem to be able to find an answer to this one. I have a map of hex tiles. I wish to implement scrolling. Code at present: drawTilemap = function() { actualX = Math.floor(viewportX / hexWidth); actualY = Math.floor(viewportY / hexHeight); offsetX = -(viewportX - (actualX * hexWidth)); offsetY = -(viewportY - (actualY * hexHeight)); for(i = 0; i < (10); i++) { for(j = 0; j < 10; j++) { if(i % 2 == 0) { x = (hexOffsetX * i) + offsetX; y = j * sourceHeight; } else { x = (hexOffsetX * i) + offsetX; y = hexOffsetY + (j * sourceHeight); } var tileselected = mapone[actualX + i][j]; drawTile(x, y, tileselected); } } } The code I've written so far only handles X movement. It doesn't yet work the way it should do. If you look at my example on jsfiddle.net below you will see that when moving to the right, when you get to the next hex tile along, there is a problem with the X position and calculations that have taken place. It seems it is a simple bit of maths that is missing. Unfortunately I've been unable to find an example that includes scrolling yet. http://jsfiddle.net/hd87E/1/ Make sure there is no horizontal scroll bar then trying moving right using the - right arrow on the keyboard. You will see the problem as you reach the end of the first tile. Apologies for the horrid code, I'm learning! Cheers

  • how to type/send hex on a putty session

    - by Amit Phatarphekar
    I'm using Putty to make a serial connection to a device. I need to send a Hex string on this session. How do I do this? The Hex String is FF7E414244 This is required to break the serial device into command interface mode... From an XP machine, I can use HyperTerminal. And then on the serial connection, do a "send file", where the file has this hexstring entered using hex editing means. So this mechanism works. But now I have a windows 7 with no hyperterminal. so I'm using putty. But now how do I send the hex string? Thanks

  • Can I interpolate two HEX color values without converting them to RGB?

    - by navand
    I'm trying to make a Gradient Class for a Blackberry app. At first I thought about converting the HEX values to RGB and then interpolating them before converting the result back into HEX, but since I will be doing this for every pixel line of an area, and the calculations will be made by a mobile, I thought that maybe there's a more efficient way of doing it. Maybe involving those pesky bitwise operators which I know nothing of... or something. So, is there a way of interpolating without converting to RGB and back? If so, is it faster than the original way? In any case, can you help me make the most efficient color interpolation? Thank you in advance!

  • Storing a Hex Grid

    - by Pedro Caetano
    I've been creating a small hex grid framework for Unity3D and have come to the following dilema. This is my coordinate system (taken from here) Link because I'm a new user It all works pretty nicely except for the fact I have no idea how to store it. I originally intended to store this in a 2D array and use images to generate my maps. One problem was that it had negative values (this was easily fixed by offsetting the coordinates a bit). However, due to this coordinate system, such an image or bitmap would have to be diamond shaped - and since these structures are square shaped, this would cause a lot of headaches even if I hack something together. Is there anything I'm missing that could fix this? I recall seeing a forum post regarding this in the unity forums but I can no longer find the link. Is writing a set of coordinate translators the best solution here? If you guys think it would be helpful, I can post code and images of my problem.

    Eric White has posted an interesting LINQ query on his blog that shows how to create a Hex Dump in something like 7 lines of code.Of course, this is not production grade code, but it's another good example that demonstrates the expressiveness of LINQ.Here is the code:byte[] ba = File.ReadAllBytes("test.xml");int bytesPerLine = 16;string hexDump = ba.Select((c, i) => new { Char = c, Chunk = i / bytesPerLine })    .GroupBy(c => c.Chunk)    .Select(g => g.Select(c => String.Format("{0:X2} ", c.Char))        .Aggregate((s, i) => s + i))    .Select((s, i) => String.Format("{0:d6}: {1}", i * bytesPerLine, s))    .Aggregate("", (s, i) => s + i + Environment.NewLine);Console.WriteLine(hexDump); Here is a sample output:000000: FF FE 3C 00 3F 00 78 00 6D 00 6C 00 20 00 76 00000016: 65 00 72 00 73 00 69 00 6F 00 6E 00 3D 00 22 00000032: 31 00 2E 00 30 00 22 00 20 00 65 00 6E 00 63 00000048: 6F 00 64 00 69 00 6E 00 67 00 3D 00 22 00 75 00000064: 3E 00Eric White reports that he typically notices that declarative code is only 20% as long as imperative code.   • Problem with writing a hexadecimal string

    - by quilby
    Here is my code /* gcc -c -Wall -g main.c gcc -g -lm -o main main.o */ #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> void stringToHex(const char* string, char* hex) { int i = 0; for(i = 0; i < strlen(string)/2; i++) { printf("s%x", string[2*i]); //for debugging sprintf(&hex[i], "%x", string[2*i]); printf("h%x\n", hex[i]); //for debugging } } void writeHex(char* hex, int length, FILE* file, long position) { fseek(file, position, SEEK_SET); fwrite(hex, sizeof(char), length, file); } int main(int argc, char** argv) { FILE* pic = fopen("hi.bmp", "w+b"); const char* string = "f2"; char hex[strlen(string)/2]; stringToHex(string, hex); writeHex(hex, strlen(string)/2, pic, 0); fclose(pic); return 0; } I want it to save the hexadecimal number 0xf2 to a file (later I will have to write bigger/longer numbers though). The program prints out - s66h36 And when I use hexedit to view the file I see the number '36' in it. Why is my code not working? Thanks!

  • Outlook plugin/macro - "Got the wrong bob"

    - by tumchaaditya
    I want to develop a feature in outlook similar to 'Got the wrong bob' feature in Gmail. I want my plugin/macro to check the addressees when I hit send and want to alert me if I have included wrong person. I need some ideas about how can I build the logic for this feature? Or how should I go about it? If such plugin is already there then even better.. P.S.: I have already checked SendGuard and it is not of much use in this case.
