  • ipad subview not loading before code is executing

    I have a command that should be loading a subview before a particular piece of time intensive code executes. However the command runs, the timely code executes and then the subview shows up.   • How does "Open With" some app in iPhone work?

    As far as I know, from iOS SDK 3.2, file type handling is added and an iOS application can associate itself with some file type so that other applications can open this kind of file with the application. Because of the sandbox mechanism in iOS, I wonder when a file in appA is opened with appB, which registered itself with this kind of file, what will happen? Is this file copied to appB and both appA and appB keep a copy of this file? If the answer is yes, is it possible to make appB open the file under appA's document folder? I cannot find any Apple documentation on this. For example, appA stores a Keynote document in it, if I open this Keynote document with the Keynote app, is it possible to let Keynote app to edit this document in place so that after editing, appA can see the updated document? Any help is appreciated.

    I had read a lot of post from the web, but I still cannot find out how can I make this out. Please help me in detail. I need to make a split-view inside a navigation because I need to make a login system. After login, then we can see the split view. I found that someone say must need to set it to be root view, some say do not need. However I cannot do it in both way. Can anyone teach me how to do that step by step??   • iPad search bar bad memory access?

    Hello all, So I am trying to implement a search bar in my app and am very close but can't seem to figure out where this memory error is occurring. This is what part of my search method looks like: filters = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; NSString *searchText = detailSearch.text; NSMutableArray *searchArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // Normally holds the object (ex: 70 locations) searchArray = self.copyOfFilters ; //This is the line that is breaking after ~2-3 letters are entered in the search for (NSString *sTemp in searchArray) { NSRange titleResultsRange = [sTemp rangeOfString:searchText options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch]; if (titleResultsRange.length > 0) [filters addObject:sTemp]; } displayedFilters = filters; copyOfFilters is a deep copy of the displayed filters that appear when the view first loads via: self.copyOfFilters = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithArray:displayedFilters copyItems:YES]; I have traced through the entry of letters and it is accurate after 2 letters, but once you try and enter a letter after a space in the search bar, it crashes. The value of copyOfFilters = {(int)[$VAR count]} objects. Does anyone know what may be causing this? Thanks!

  • Changing UIViews during UIInterfaceOrientation on iPad

    I am trying to change views on rotation because my views have to be significantly different from portrait to landscape. Now the code I am using works once then the app freezes when trying to rotate back. Either direction does not make a difference. For example: If I am in Landscape and rotate to portrait everything works great until I rotate back to landscape then it freezes and does absolutely nothing.   • iPhone SDK: problem managing orientation with multiple view controllers.

    I'm trying to build an iPhone application that has two subviews in the main window. Each view has its own UIViewController subclass associated with it. Also, within each controller's implementation, I've added the following method: -(BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: (UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return YES; } Thus, I would expect both of the views to respond to changes in orientation. However, this is not the case. Only the first view added to the app's main window responds to orientation. (If I swap the order the views are added, then only the other view responds. In other words, either will work--but only one at a time.) Why is this? Is it not possible to handle the orientation changes of more than one view? Thanks! EDIT: Someone else had this question, so I'm copying my solution here: I was able to address this issue by providing a root view and a root view controller with the method "shouldAutoRotate..." and adding my other views as subviews to the root view. The subviews inherit the auto-rotating behavior, and their associated view controllers shouldn't need to override "shouldAutoRotate..."

  • "Page Size" and "Orientation" are disabled when printing from some applications

    There are many different Print dialogs but one is very common and is used by Gimp, Shutter, Evloution and Simple Scan. In all these apps the "Page Size" and "Orientation" are disabled. The same dialog in Firefox, Thunderbird and GEdit works OK. I program in Gambas3 which uses this dialog in conjunction with the GTK+ library and it also has these options disabled. If I use the QT4 library then a different print dialog is displayed with no problems. Anybody else notice this problem and found a solution?

  • The Apple iPad &ndash; I&rsquo;m gonna get it!

    Ad:: SharePoint 2007 Training in .NET 3.5 technologies (more information). Well, heck, here comes another non-techie blogpost. You know I’m a geek, so I love gadgets! I found it RATHER interesting to see all the negative news on the blogosphere about the iPad. The main bitch points are - No Multi tasking No Flash Just a bigger iPhone. So here’s the deal! My view is, the above 3 are EXACTLY what I had personally hoped for in the Apple iPad. Before the release, I had gone on the record saying - “If the Apple Tablet is able to run full fledged iTunes (so I can get rid of iTunes on my desktop, I don’t like iTunes on Windows), can browse the net, can read PDFs, and will be under $1000, I’ll buy it”. Well, so, the released iPad wasn’t exactly like my dream tablet. The biggest downer IMO was it’s inability to run full iTunes. But, really, in retrospect, I like the newly released iPad. And here is why. No Multi tasking and No Flash, means much better battery life. Frankly, I rarely multi task on my laptop/desktop .. yeah I know my OS does .. but ME – I don’t multi task, and I don’t think you do either!! As I type this blogpost, I have a few windows running behind the scenes, but they are simply waiting for me to get back to them. The only thing truly running and I am making use of, other than this blogost, is media player playing some music – which the iPad can do. Also, I am logged into IM/Email – which again, iPad can do via notifications. It does the limited multitasking I need, without chewing down on batteries. Smart thinking, precisely the reason I love the iPhone. I don’t want a bulky battery consuming machine. Lack of flash? Okay sure, I can’t see Hulu on my iPad. That’s some loss. I can see youtube. Also, per Adobe I can’t see some porn sites, which I don’t want to see on my iPad. But, Flash is heavy. Especially flash video. My dream is to see silverlight run on the iPhone and iPad. No flash = not such a big loss. Speaking of battery life – 10 hours is plenty. I haven’t been away from electricity for that long usually, so I’m okay with charging it up when it runs low. It’s really not such a big deal honestly. Finally, eBook functionality – wow! I went on the record saying, eBook readers are not for me, but seriously, the iPad is perfect for my eBook needs at least. And as far it being just a bigger iPhone? I’ve always wanted a bigger iPhone, precisely for the eBook reading experience. I love my iPhone, I love the apps on it. The only thing that sucks about the iPhone is battery life, but other than that, it is the best gadget I have ever bought! And something that runs on mobile chips, is that thin, and those newly written apps .. mail, calendar .. I am very very excited to get my iPad, which will be the 64gig 3G version. The biggest plus in an iPad ……… no contract on data. I am *hoping*, this means that I can buy a SIM card in Europe, and use the iPad here. That would be killer awesome! But hey, if I had to pick downers in the iPad, they would be - - I wish they had a 128G Version. Now that we have a good video viewing machine, I know I’d chew up space quickly.- Sync over WIFI, seriously Apple.  Both for iPhone and iPad.- 3 month wait!!- Existing iPhone users should get a discount on the iPad data plan.     In the following example there is a guy and a boat. They have both a position, orientation and velocity. The guy is standing on the shore and would like to board. He changes his position so he is now standing on the boat. The boat changes velocity and orientation and heads off. My character however has a velocity of 0,0,0 but I would like him to stay onboard. When I move my character around, I would like to move as if the boat was the ground I was standing on. How do keep my character aligned properly with the boat? It is exactly like in World Of Warcraft, when you board a boat or zeppelin. This is my physics code for the guy and boat: this.velocity.addSelf(acceleration.multiplyScalar(dTime)); this.position.addSelf(this.velocity.clone().multiplyScalar(dTime)); The guy already has a reference to the boat he's standing on, and thus knows the boat's position, velocity, orientation (even matrices or quaternions can be used).

  • What differences should i make in the MPMoviePlayer sample code(for iphone) to make it work in Ipad?

    Its working perfectly in the iphone simulator. But not in the ipad simulator. I am only trying to make the movie getting loaded when the application launches.Copy pasted the same code in a ipad window application. But it loads and only gives the white screen and nothing is happening. Can anyone tell me what changes should I make to work it in ipad simulator just as in the iphone simulator?

  • Why is there a black bar on top of my iPhone/iPad app when I run it on the iPhone simulator?

    Whenever I run my iPhone / iPad app in the iPhone simulator, a black bar appears along the top of the screen which I can't seem to get rid of. On the iPad simulator, however, it looks fine and works great. Also tapping one of the buttons seems to cause a white screen to appear instead of the view on the iPhone, while on the iPad it doesn't seem to be troublesome. Thanks, Anthony Glyadchenko

  • Trouble with onscreen keyboard orientation in iPhone OpenGL ES application.

    I need to take keyboard input in my OpenGL ES application, so I just created an empty UITextView and added it as a subview to the main window along with the view that presents my content. I use the UITextview to control the keyboard and it works fine in a single orientation. I then changed my code to support all orientations by rotating the OpenGL content myself based on UIDeviceOrientation notifications. To rotate the keyboard, I overrode the shouldAutoRotateInterfaceOrientation method in the UITextView's controller. But I still see that the keyboard does not rotate according to the orientation. Any clues?

  • Problem serving video to iPad from Mongrel 1.1.5 , RoR 2.0.2 on Mac OS 10.6.3 Server

    I am working off the Final Cut Server Integration sample provided by Apple that is a Rails app using 2.0.2 and runs on Mongrel 1.1.5. I can have a basic non-Ruby directory on my boot volume (Mac OS 10.6.3 Server) and can serve up video files just fine to iPad. However, when I drag the same video file into the 'public' area of the app running on -p 3000 it will not play on iPad, but will in Safari 4.0.5 desktop version. Images work fine so I know it's not a permissions issue. I'm getting the crossed-out play icon on iPad so it is not an issue of waiting on a large file to download before playing. I suspect it is a Mongrel/Snow Leopard issue but why would Safari on desktop work fine and not Safari iPad?   • Can i openly speculate based on App rejection that the iPad has xxx MB of memory?

    If i were to calculate the iPad's amount of RAM based on just the one fact that my iPad App got rejected due to memory warnings twice, and me fixing it, would this violate the developer NDA? Obviously i know how much memory my App uses, how much the iPhone OS is likely to use and estimate the amount reserved for video memory, then i can deduct from that that the iPad has xxx MB of memory. I just wonder if i can say that number publicly without violating any NDA?
