  • Give the path to the inserted USB key to a script

    I'd like to run a given Perl script whenever I connect my camera to my PC, so that this script will download all the photos on it. But as the drive letter for the camera may change depending on what's already connected, I need to pass this drive letter as an argument to the script. Is this doable? Thanks.   • Adding EXIF Lens data for manual lens (e.g "Lens Baby")

    I have a Lens Baby Composer, which is an entirely mechanical lens (no electronics in it), so the camera body cannot determine what lens is attached.. So obviously the metadata does not contain the lens info.. Is there any way to manually set this metadata, so the photos don't show up as "Unknown Lens"? It's a Canon 5D Mark II (so the native files are .cr2), and I convert them to DNG with Lightroom

  • How to automate photoshop from the command line.

    I have a tool which writes some tags to a photo. On some photos it fails, and for those I want to open them in photoshop, and resave it with maximum quality (jpeg). Ideally I would like to do that from the command line as then I can just do: for %a in (*.jpg) do mytool.exe "%a" || [AUTOMATED PROCESS HERE] I tried first just doing photoshop.exe "%a" but it seems photoshop doesn't even accept a command line argument for what photo to open.

  • iPhoto & iPhone Album order is different

    I can't seem to find any answers to this, I have around 100 albums in iPhoto on my Mac, they are all synced to my iPhone, but on the phone they are just being displayed in a seeming random order. I have removed all the photos from the phone and started again, but they go back in the same order. In iPhoto the albums are actually in alphabetical order, have I've clicked the sort albums option, but this did nothing? Any ideas?

  • How should I use my new SSD drive?

    I just built a new PC the other day. Specs... Processor: Intel i7-930 quad core CPU CPU Cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Motherboard: AsRock X58 Extreme 3 RAM/Memory: 6gb G-Skill tripple channel DDR3 memory (3 sticks of 2gb planning to get another kit to make it 12gb total soon) Operating System Hard drive: Intel X25-M 80GB Mainstream SATA2 Solid State Drive Video Cards: 2 XFX ATI Redeon HD 4650 cards to run 3-4 monitors Case: Lian Li PC-B10 Midtower case Power Supply: Antec TruePower New TP-750 Blue 750W Operating System Windows 7 Pro 64bit Not sure if the specs are helpful at all but I posted them just in case. So I got everything put together and running great so far but I need some advice/ideas/help/tips. I got the SSD drive in hopes of using it strictly for my windows 7 install along with all my other programs I install. I am then going to get another drive or 2 just for data (video,music,photos, etc). So my plan is to just install the new data drives and then in windows 7 I will change my "My documents" "My Music" "My Video" "MY Photos" library's to be located on the data drives instead of the OS SSD drive. I would ultimately like to install all my programs with my windows install on the SSD drive and then create an IMAGE of the drive and then 6 months down the road if things are sluggish I can just wipe the drive and restore my IMAGE with all my programs and settings in tact still. So here are some questions now. 1) How can I verify that TRIM is working on my new SSD? 2) Is there anything above that I missed that I should be doing? I think I once read that there is a page file or some sort of file that windows changes a lot and that it should be moved off f an SSD an onto my data drives. DOes anyone know what I might of heard? If you do can you explain the pros and cons of doing such a thing as well as how to possibly? 3) Any tips or advice to get the best performance from all this, I built a pretty nice system and I just want to make it stay that way as long as I can.

    When I plug a USB thumb drive into my Win7 PC, it no longer auto-launches the window giving me options like "Import Photos" or "browse". The drive is recognized but nothing autolaunches. Similarly, CD's don't autoplay either.     Context: Windows 7 Wired mouse and keyboard The Windows 7 Photos screensaver intermittently fails to kick in after 2 minutes. The computer knows that the time has passed because it will make my monitors display solid black screens. I already tried installing the latest mouse drivers from Microsoft and the problem persists. I also can't find any rhyme or reason to when the problem will happen. The problem happens even when Windows Media Player isn't running.

  • How can I set a minimum thumbnail size with ImageMagick?

    I'm trying to create thumbnails of JPG photos using ImageMagick's convert tool. The thumbnails need to have a defined size (210x159), no blank areas, and the image can be cropped if necessary. Unfortunately, I only have ImageMagick 6.3.7 available, which doesn't support the '^' geometry modifier (added in v6.3.8-3). Is there another way to achieve this in earlier versions of ImageMagick?     Hello, I had a system running Win 7 Home premium and ubuntu 10.04, side by side dual boot.I got an ubuntu 10.10 image disk so I decided to update.But during the installation I think I made a mistake by specifying the whole partition, and after installation of ubuntu 10.10 I saw that my windows and all the other data was gone.there was around 250GB of it.Is there any way I can recover this data??I had a lot of irreplacable photos and collections on the drive.I do have a recovery cd for my windows, but it does not detect any windows os.thanku very much.   • How can I enable Javascript in Firefox, or what is stopping it from being enabled?

    XP3 Firefox 3.6.9 The Superuser and other sites state that I don't have Javascript enabled. I also am unable to view certain videos on the web and they say that I must have Javascript enabled.   • Architectural advice - web camera remote access

    I'm looking for architectural advice. I have a client who I've built a website for which essentially allows users to view their web cameras remotely. The current flow of data is as follows: User opens page to view web camera image. Javascript script polls url on server ( appended with unique timestamp ) every 1000ms Ftp connection is enabled for the cameras ftp user. Web camera opens ftp connection to server. Web camera begins taking photos. Web camera sends photo to ftp server. On image url request: Server reads latest image on hard drive uploaded via ftp for camera. Server deleted any older images from the server. This is working okay at the moment for a small amount of users/cameras ( about 10 users and around the same amount of cameras), but we're starting to worrying about the scalability of this approach. My original plan was instead of having the files read from the server, the web server would open up an ftp connection to the web server and read the latest images directly from there meaning we should have been able to scale horizontally fairly easily. But ftp connection establishment times were too slow ( mainly due to the fact that PHP out of the ox is unable to persist ftp connections ) and so we abandoned this approach and went straight for reading from the hard drive. The firmware provider for the cameras state they're able to build a http client which instead of using ftp to upload the image could post the image to a web server. This seems plausible enough to me, but I'm looking for some architectural advice. My current thought is a simple Nginx/PHP/Redis stack. Web camera issues post requests of latest image to Nginx/PHP and the latest image for that camera is stored in Redis. The clients can then pull the latest image from Redis which should be extremely quick as the images will always be stored in memory. The data flow would then become: User opens page to view web camera image. Javascript script polls url on server ( appended with unique timestamp ) every 1000ms Camera is sent an http request to start posting images to a provided url Web camera begins taking photos. Web camera sends post requests to server as fast as it can On image url request: Server reads latest image from redis Server tells redis to delete later image My questions are: Are there any greater overheads of transferring images via HTTP instead of FTP? Is there a simple way to calculate how many potential cameras we could have streaming at once? Is there any way to prevent potentially DOS'ing our own servers due to web camera requests? Is Redis a good solution to this problem? Should I abandon PHP/Ngix combination and go for something else? Is this proposed solution actually any good? Will adding HTTPs to the mix cause posting the image to become too slow? Thanks in advance Alan

  • Why Windows Live Photo Gallery stopped displaying thumbnails, and how to fix it?

    I now get this instead, for most (but not all) photos. This is the icon which represents the WLPG application, I think. Some observations: I can see the thumbnails fine in Explorer, which is where a lot of other people have this problem. My C:\ drive may have temporarily filled up at some point recently, but then was cleaned up. Double-clicking on the photo will display it fine, so I know it's not file corruption or permissions issues. Thanks
