• Incorrect Dates for Downloable files in Google Snippets

  We have a website which create publications and newsletters. In most (if not all) the search results for our downloadable files, the Google snippets show dates which are less than when those files were actually published, from one to three months before. It would be impossible since those files did not even exist before the dates mentioned. The dates themselves do not seem to have any significance in our site. Any suggestions where the dates come from?

• Evolution not downloading messages for offline use

  Even though I've selected "Copy folder content locally for offline operation" on my inbox and "Automatically synchronize account locally" in my account options, Evolution still only downloads headers for my inbox. When I click an email, its downloaded from the server. I want all my emails to be available to read offline - As far as I know this should be possible, so is my configuration that's wrong, or is it a bug?

  I am trying to get emacs-like keybindings in gtk, firefox, chrome, etc. I have followed the directions recommended here (and in lots of places) but to no effect: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Emacs_Keybindings_(Firefox) In other words, I added 'gtk-key-theme-name = "Emacs"' to my .gtkrc-2.0, and I also ran gconf-editor and set "/desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_key_theme" to "Emacs". I even rebooted just for good measure. I am using an ordinary Ubuntu 12.04 install, with unity3d as the desktop environment. Thanks! Sam

  I'm trying to do this secure.domain2.com -loads content from- secure.domain1.com So if somebody goes to secure.domain2.com it will load the content of secure.domain1.com Note that I don't want a redirect, so if someone goes to secure.domain2.com in the address bar it will still say secure.domain2.com even though it's loading content from secure.domain1.com I've read that it's possible with a CName or something like that, what is the best way to do that?

• Deny access to a folder on hosting server but serve the pages

  My hosting server allows to host multiple websites. The directory structure is like this root |_ www.a.com |_ www.b.com |_ www.c.com |_ www.d.com I want to put some PHP files on the www.d.com folder so if some one browse the site from web-browser can get it, but no one can get it's source code [even by loggin in to the root folder]. Is there any way to doing so ? There is a feature called Password protect folder or so, can in help in this case ?

All rights reserved MatheMagic – Guess My Age – Method 1 The Mathemagician stands on the stage and asks an adult to do the following: ·         Do the next few steps on your calculator, or the calculator in your phone, or even on a piece of paper. ·         Do it silently! Don’t tell me the results until I ask for them directly ·         Compute a single digit multiple of 9 – any one of 9, 18, 27, … all the way to 81, will do. ·         Now multiply your age by 10 ·         Subtract the 9 multiple from this number. ·         Tell me the result. Notice that I don’t know which multiple of 9 you subtracted from 10 times your age. I will nonetheless immediately tell you what your age is. How do I do this? Let’s do the algebra. 10X – 9Y = 10X – 10Y + Y = 10(X – Y) + Y Now remember, you asked an adult, so his/her age is a two digit number (maybe even 3 digits), thus reducing it by the single digit multiplied by nine is still positive – the lowest is can be is 100 – 81 which yields 19. Now make two numbers out of the result. The last digit and the number before it. This number is X – Y or the age minus the single digit you selected. The last digit is this very single digit. This is always so regardless of the digit you selected. So… Add tis digit to the other number and you get back the age! Q.E.D Example: I am 76 years old and here is what happens when I do the steps 76 x 10 = 760 760 – 18 = 742 made of 74 and 2. My age is 74 + 2 760 – 81 = 679 made of 67 and 9. My age is 67 + 9 A note to the socially aware mathemagician – it is safer to do it with a man. The chances of a veracious answer are much, much higher! The trick may be accomplished on any 2 or 3 digit number, not just one’s age, but if you want to know your date’s age, it’s a good way to elicit it.   I am running into problems in NetLogo with large *.csv / *.txt files. The documents can consist of about 1 million data sets and I need to read them (to eventually create a diagram based on the data). With the most straightforward source code, my program needs about 2 minutes to process these files. How should I approach reading such large data files faster in NetLogo? Is NetLogo even suitable for such tasks (as it seems to be designed more for teaching and learning)?

• Set Ctrl+Alt+T to open a maximized terminal

  I use the Ctrl+Alt+T shortcut to open a terminal, but I cannot see how I can get it maximized. When I start it manually, I can simply do a gnome-terminal --maximize, but that does not apply for the shortcut. Even a changing of the .desktop files did not change anything. Any way to let the shortcut open a maximized terminal window? I use regular Gnome 2 on Ubuntu 11.04 with no compositing effects.

  Last night I gave a talk to the Portland Silverlight User Group. http://www.portlandsilverlight.net/Meetings/Details/15 And I survived (which you should have probably already figured out since you’re reading this post AND that’s what I titled it…) Really though it was a fantastic time and I had a lot of fun! I was a little nervous getting ready for it, but I’m always a little nervous getting ready for things. I had the game all written,  I knew the general flow for what the talk was going to be. I read over Scott Hanselman’s 11 Top Tips for a Successful Technical presentation (which has become something I do EVERY time I’m preparing for a talk). I gave myself a brief list of points I wanted to make sure I covered or worked into the talk. But then I was ready and I waited. I hate the waiting. It makes me nervous. Once I was up in front of the room though with my laptop open and some XNA code in front of me, my nerves go away. Then I’m ready. I know XNA, I love talking about XNA and I love sharing what I know and hearing questions that make me think. And hopefully that came through while I was talking. I had a freaking blast. The swag went quickly (and I was even able to hand out some XNA 2.0 books that have been around forever!) and the pizza was been gobbled down. I started the talk at about 6:10 and managed to cover a very brief intro to programming against the game loop (it’s a different concept and one that seems to trip a lot of people up getting started with game development) and then rolled into making a basic 2D game for Windows Phone 7 using XNA. And I finished the whole thing before 8:30. Wahoo! I’m planning on posting the source code and assets on my site so those should be coming soon. And to make things even better, they recorded the whole thing on video so everyone will get to see me pretend I can speak! Just wait till you hear the new song I wrote for this talk…

  I decided to add to my game few trees, I already quake 3 model loader (md3) its for characters and method for texture drawing is store in *.ini file. I found a package of trees in MD3 and I have no problem with loading model alone, but there is a *.shader file and i have no idea how to load it to draw texture properly.   On 12.04 64-bit, about every 5 seconds my screen blinks twice. Even during installation of Ubuntu from CD, this happens during the complete process. I had no problems with earlier Ubuntu versions (earlier version was 10.04LTS 64-bit) System specs: I7-2600K MSI 7681 Motherboard 16 GB RAM 2 x Nvidia 560 card SLI (only 1 screen on 1 card active during install process) This flickering is driving me crazy, please help.

• How are you coping with Ubuntu's Unity app launcher? (It auto-hides, can't minimize apps)

  [Firstly, let me tell you that this cannot be subjective in anyway, as I think at least Ubuntu beginners will have these questions boggling in their mind; and yes, this is a question that has a definite answer - - so, I am completely within the rules.] Okay, coming to the point, I see that Ubuntu uses Unity since v10.xx (netbook edition?) and carried the same to v11.04 & v11.10. As someone who's stuck to Windows for all these years, it's somewhat difficult to cope with Ubuntu's Unity, for the following reasons: [1] The Unity app launcher (to the screen's left) auto-hides when a window is maximized. [2]- And once launched, apps cannot be minimized by clicking the app's icon in the launcher. I have to go to the top-left of the screen and click the "_" button. I do know I can fix these issues by installing some configuration tool. But the thing is, if that's how it's meant to work, Canonical/Ubuntu would have designed it that way. But they didn't. Why? w.r.t above points [1], [2]: [1] EDITED: So, does it mean, it's good to work without maximizing the windows? Because if I maximize the window, the app launcher hides. And I need to hover the mouse to the left of the screen, wait a bit (even if it's a sec or even less, I can still feel the lag), and then click on the next app icon in the launcher to switch to it. I do know, I can use Alt+TAB to switch, but I am not sure which window comes next. This, I feel, isn't productive. Also, this makes me feel, Ubuntu is designed for large screens (it's nice on my 1920x1080p screen), because I can have two windows side-by-side or something like that on a large screen. This is not possible on smaller screens. [2]- Being able to minimize an application's window by clicking on its icon in the launcher (just like it works on Windows & probably elsewhere) would have been great, rather than having to go to the top-left and clicking the _ (minimize) button which brings up the app launcher itself (from hiding) most of the time. It's too tiring to have these small issues in the UI. I really would like to know how you are coping with these issues the way they are?
