• Drupal 5 Search not working on 404 pages.

  I have a <?php print $search_box; ?> in my page.tpl.php page. On pages that exist, the search works, but on 404 pages, it does not. I saw some bugs/patches threads over at drupal.org for D6.15, but none of them seem to work according to the thread and they weren't really relevant to D5.x I have a theory that the because the <?php print $search_box; ?> creates a form with an action to itself(a non-existant page), it'll get the 404. Has anyone run up against this? If so, how did you fix it? One theory I has was to somehow tap into the form and always make the action="/" (front page) which would always exist. If this is a good idea, how does one go about tapping into the FormAPI and overwriting the action? Is it a preprocess function?

  Hi All, I need to open an internal web browser from a custom eclipse wizard I have created - and so I am using IWebBrowser webBrowser = browser.createBrowser (IWorkbenchBrowserSupport.LOCATION_BAR | IWorkbenchBrowserSupport.AS_EDITOR | IWorkbenchBrowserSupport.NAVIGATION_BAR | IWorkbenchBrowserSupport.STATUS, null,"TestBrowser", "TestBrowser"); URL url = new URL("http://localhost:8080/app"); webBrowser.openURL(url); Now the problem is - the openURL needs time to complete as it tries to load a page for a webapp and as I am not able to get the progress of the 'load page' operation of the URL - my wizard progressmonitor completes before the URL can be completely loaded . Is there any way to get the status of the page load operation - (to check if its complete or it failed) or add a listener to indicate completion of page load? It is okay for me to use some other implementations of internal web browsers - so please suggest some other approach we cannot add a listener to IWebBrowser.. Thanks for ur help !!

• How can I test caching and cache busting?

  In PHP, I'm trying to steal a page from the Rails playbook (see 'Using Asset Timestamps' here): By default, Rails appends assets' timestamps to all asset paths. This allows you to set a cache-expiration date for the asset far into the future, but still be able to instantly invalidate it by simply updating the file (and hence updating the timestamp, which then updates the URL as the timestamp is part of that, which in turn busts the cache). It‘s the responsibility of the web server you use to set the far-future expiration date on cache assets that you need to take advantage of this feature. Here‘s an example for Apache: # Asset Expiration ExpiresActive On <FilesMatch "\.(ico|gif|jpe?g|png|js|css)$"> ExpiresDefault "access plus 1 year" </FilesMatch> If you look at a the source for a Rails page, you'll see what they mean: the path to a stylesheet might be "/stylesheets/scaffold.css?1268228124", where the numbers at the end are the timestamp when the file was last updated. So it should work like this: The browser says 'give me this page' The server says 'here, and by the way, this stylesheet called scaffold.css?1268228124 can be cached for a year - it's not gonna change.' On reloads, the browser says 'I'm not asking for that css file, because my local copy is still good.' A month later, you edit and save the file, which changes the timestamp, which means that the file is no longer called scaffold.css?1268228124 because the numbers change. When the browser sees that, it says 'I've never seen that file! Give me a copy, please.' The cache is 'busted.' I think that's brilliant. So I wrote a function that spits out stylesheet and javascript tags with timestamps appended to the file names, and I configured Apache with the statement above. Now: how do I tell if the caching and cache busting are working? I'm checking my pages with two plugins for Firebug: Yslow and Google Page Speed. Both seem to say that my files are caching: "Add expires headers" in Yslow and "leverage browser caching" in Page Speed are both checked. But when I look at the Page Speed Activity, I see a lot of requests and waiting and no 'cache hits'. If I change my stylesheet and reload, I do see the change immediately. But I don't know if that's because the browser never cached in the first place or because the cache is busted. How can I tell?

• Cache for everybody except staff members.

  I have a django site where I want to stick an "admin bar" along the top of every non-admin page for staff members. It would contain useful things like page editing tools, etc. The problem comes from me using the @cache_page decorator on lots of pages. If a normal user hits a page, the cached version comes up without the admin bar (even for admin users) and if an admin hits the page first, normal users see the admin bar. I could tediously step through the templates, adding regional cache blocks but there are a lot of templates, and life is altogether too short. Ideally, there would be a way of telling the caching to ignore cache get/set requests from admin users... But I don't know how to best implement that. How would you tackle this problem?

• Manually start session with specific id / transitioning session cookie between domains

  My host requires me to use a different domain for SSL secured access (shared SSL), so I need to transition the user session between two domains. One part of the page lives at http://example.com, while the SSL'd part is at https://example.hosting.com. As such I can't set a domain-spanning cookie. What I'm trying to do is to transition the session id over and re-set the cookie like this: http://example.com/normal/page, user clicks link to secure area and goes to: http://example.com/secure/page, which causes a redirect to: https://example.hosting.com/secure/page?sess=ikub..., which resurrects the session and sets a new cookie valid for the domain, then redirects to: https://example.hosting.com/secure/page This works up to the point where the session should be resurrected. I'm doing: function beforeFilter() { ... $this->Session->id($_GET['sess']); $this->Session->activate(); ... } As far as I can tell this should start the session with the given ID. It actually generates a new session ID though and this session is empty, the data is not restored. This is on CakePHP 1.2.4. Do I need to do something else, or is there a better way to do what I'm trying to do?

  I created a web application in which one .aspx page calls an AJAX-enabled WCF service (created with Visual Studio 2008 Add New Item - AJAX-enabled WCF Service). when I test the application in Visual Studio, it works and the page can call the service from Javascript but when I "publish" (code precompilation using Visual Studio) it to the local IIS Server, I get an error : "service ThunServ is undefined" in my .html page. I've been spending quite a time to solve this problem but to no avail. Attarea.

I plan to achieve this by putting [pFirstRun] = False as my first WHERE condition with the parameter pFirstRun tied to the value isPostBack. How do I achieve this? • Javascript performance issue

  Hello, I've built a top menu based on superfish, but the amount of displayed items in the menu is huge. And there is also alot of jquery on the top menu. Now to the problem, everytime I load any page that has the menu, the browser(ie7) feels like it looks it locks it self for about 1-2 seconds while the page is being loaded. I'm sure that the top menu is the issue, and I would like to improve the performance of the page.(besides removing the menu and removing the menu items) I've used firebug to see which calls take most of the times, and I the calls are standard jquery or superfish. The top menu is a ascx control. Are they any good ways to let the page load first and the menu later or any other goods ideas to improve the performance?

• 301 Redirecting URLs based on GET variables in .htaccess

  I have a few messy old URLs like... http://www.example.com/bunch.of/unneeded/crap?opendocument&part=1 http://www.example.com/bunch.of/unneeded/crap?opendocument&part=2 ...that I want to redirect to the newer, cleaner form... http://www.example.com/page.php/welcome http://www.example.com/page.php/prices I understand I can redirect one page to another with a simple redirect i.e. Redirect 301 /bunch.of/unneeded/crap http://www.example.com/page.php But the source page doesn't change, only it's GET vars. I can't figure out how to base the redirect on the value of these GET variables. Can anybody help pls!? I'm fairly handy with the old regexes so I can have a pop at using mod-rewrite if I have to but I'm not clear on the syntax for rewriting GET vars and I'd prefer to avoid the performance hit and use the cleaner Redirect directive. Is there a way? and if not can anyone clue me in as to the right mod-rewrite syntax pls? Cheers, Roger.

  Hi, A mortgage page on our website is accesible by multiple links on one page. In order to determine which of the links on that same page has been clicked on, I use event tracking. All events for these links are being stored under the category: "mortgage" When I look at the total number of pageviews for this mortgage page and the total number of events for the event category "mortgage", the number of pageviews is 10%-20% higher.   Hi, I'm really struggling to make facebook connection working for my system. What I want to do : When the user is not yet registered on facebook : Fetch some user profile fields into my database (ideqally via my registration page already working for non facebook users) Log the user into my website Redirect the user into my homepage What I've done so far : Set up the application in FB Add the Facebook class from the github website and integrate some code to make it working Add additionnal paremeters to login/register facebook link. I'm struggling to redirect the user after authorizing, to my register page (register/?facebook). The "Post-Authorize Redirect URL" field doesn't seem to work properly, I maybe do not fill the right field? My other question is, if my registration page uses a redirection show (index.php redirect to register.php), do the information given by facebook through the $_POST method would be available in the register.php page ? • Handling Errors in PHP

  I have a custom class that, when called, will redirect to a page and send a 'message_type' and 'message' variable via GET. When the page opens it checks for these variables and displays a 'success', 'warning', or 'error' message depending on the 'message_type' variable. I made it so the user thinks they stay on the same page. It also allows for other variables to be passed along with the message. Is this good practice, or should I just start using exceptions? Example: //Call a static function that will redirect to a page, with an error message RedirectWithMessage::go('somepage.php', MessageType::ERROR, 'Error message here.'); The following checkMessage() function is an include file: function checkMessage() { if((isset($_GET['message_type']) && strlen($_GET['message_type'])) && (isset($_GET['message']) && strlen($_GET['message_type']))) { DisplayMessage::display($_GET['message_type'], $_GET['message']); return true; } return false; } On the page that is redirected to, call checkMessage(); //If a message is received, display it. If not, do nothing checkMessage(); I know this might be vague, and I can supply more code if necessary. I guess the issue is that I don't have much experience using exceptions, but I think they seem cumbersome (writing try-catch blocks everywhere). • IE8 Inconsistent Rendering when Reloading

  I am working on fixing a website that doesn't work in the new release of IE8. After a bit I found out that you can force IE8 to render as IE7 with the following meta tag: <!-- Meta tag for IE8 so that it always displays the site in IE7 Compatibility mode --> <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" /> I have found that although the page loads fine when you specify this meta-tag; However, when you click or press the refresh button after the initial load of the page, the page renders completely wrong (see bellow): This really seems like an IE8 bug to me, as I've never seen any other browser render inconstantly on a page refresh. As anyone else noticed this? Update! This was cause by having CompanionJS installed in IE8.

• UpdatePanel works great in all browsers except IE8

  I'm using a timer triggered update panel which works perfectly under the latest versions of Firefox, Opera, and Safari. However, in IE, it sometimes works fine (just the panel updates without flicker elsewhere), but often the whole page starts to flicker after a while. I'm using a control to encapsulate this logic and the control is used on all of the pages on my web site. Here's my code. • Trouble with loading jquery onload.

  Hi guys, I'm trying to build some jquery tabs based on the request (which is stored in a table). I have two pages sharing one .js file. One page is for the user to create the request, and the other is for the administrator to approve/deny the request. On the admin page, here is my javascript code: $(function() { GetRequest(); }); Which is just calling a function I have inside my .js file. All the code in the .js file is also wrapped in a '$(function(){ //...code here })'. The problem is the function isn't built yet when calling it from the page. Is there a way I can tell the page to wait until the script is complete?

  I am successfully using RJS to implement AJAX on a page.replace.html create.js.rjs. I am attempting to update two locations instead of one and after watching Ryan Bates Railscast I am very close (I think) but have a problem in the syntax of my /views/likes/create.js.rjs file. Here is the situation: located at /views/likes/create.js.rjs is the following code: page.replace_html "votes_#{ @site.id }", :partial => @like page.replace_html "counter", 10 - (@question.likes.count :conditions => {:user_id => current_user.id}) page[@like].visual_effect :highlight My problem lies in the second line. Specifically he mentions that you cannot use a local instance variable but not sure how to make the change. Thoughts?

• JSF Ajax refresh issue

  In my JSF page, I have a dropdown that needs to be populated onload of the page which is set in request scope, now I have a Ajax call that refreshes a part of the page. The Ajax piece works fine but the issue is on refresh it also calls the getter for the Dropdown and returns null ( because its in request scope). To me it makes no sense to call the getter for a component that's not part of the Ajax refresh. Am I doing it correct , please suggest.

• How do I add ROW_NUMBER to a LINQ query or Entity?

  I'm stumped by this easy data problem. I'm using the Entity framework and have a database of products. My results page returns a paginated list of these products. Right now my results are ordered by the number of sales of each product, so my code looks like this: return Products.OrderByDescending(u => u.Sales.Count()); This returns an IQueryable dataset of my entities, sorted by the number of sales. I want my results page to show the rank of each product (in the dataset). My results should look like this: Page #1 1. Bananas 2. Apples 3. Coffee Page #2 4. Cookies 5. Ice Cream 6. Lettuce I'm expecting that I just want to add a column in my results using the SQL ROW_NUMBER variable...but I don't know how to add this column to my results datatable. My resulting page does contain a foreach loop, but since I'm using a paginated set I'm guessing using that number to fake a ranking number would NOT be the best approach. So my question is, how do I add a ROW_NUMBER column to my query results in this case?
