• How to list column headers of a SQL Server table using sp_help perhaps?

  Hi, I have a few tables with 70-80 columns in them. I would like to populate them with somewhat random data, unless I will not be able to do so due to key violation, etc. The first step would be simply to get the list of all headers. There seem to be two ways: A) Run select * from table_of_interest; in MSFT SQL Server Management Studio 2008. Now, right-click the result and click "Copy With headers". However, I get zero rows back, and when I try to copy nothing + headers, I get: TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio ------------------------------ Value cannot be null. Parameter name: data (System.Windows.Forms) ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------ This looks like a bug ... anyhow ... there is another way. B) I can run sp_help table_of_interest;. However, I end up getting too much back. I get 7 different tables back but I am only interested in the second one. The columns of the second table are: Column_name | Type | Computed | Length | Prec | Scale | Nullable | TrimTrailingBlanks | FixedLenNullInSource | Collation I might be interested in just a Column_name and Type, but maybe other columns. So ... since sp_help probably runs a bunch of queries ... how do I get under the hood? How can I run the second query AND filter down the number of columns that I am interested in? Many Thanks!

• How can I render a list of objects using DisplayFor but from the controller in ASP.NET MVC?

  Here's the scenaio, I have an Employee object and a Company object which has a list of employees. I have Company.aspx which inherits from ViewPage<Company>. In Company.aspx I call Html.DisplayFor(m => m.Employees). I have an Employee.ascx partial view which inherits from ViewUserControl<Employee in my DisplayTemplates folder. Everything works fine and Company.aspx renders the Employee.ascx partial for each employee. Now I have two additional methods on my controller called GetEmployees and GetEmployee(Id). In the GetEmployee(Id) action I want to return the markup to display this one employee, and in GetEmployees() I want to render the markup to display all the employees (these two action methods will be called via AJAX). In the GetEmployee action I call return PartialView("DisplayTemplates\Employee", employee) This works, although I'd prefer something like return PartialViewFor(employee) which would determine the view name by convention. Anwyay, my question is how should I implement the GetEmployees() action? I don't want to create any more views, because frankly, I don't see why I should have to. I've tried the following which fails miserably :) return Content(New HtmlHelper<IList<Of DebtDto>>(null, null).DisplayFor(m => debts)); However if I could create an instance of an HtmlHelper object in my controller, I suppose I could get it to work, but it feels wrong. Any ideas? Have i missed something obvious?

• why Geocoder.getFromLocationName(...) returns an empty list?

  I'm using the android.location.Geocoder for the first time. The Idea is: I have a Listener on a button which takes input from an EditText and resolve the location. Up to now it's debugging phase, so I have no handler taking messages from the thread, only geocoding and write to logcat. • How can I get a distinct list of elements in a hierarchical query?

  I have a database table, with people identified by a name, a job and a city. I have a second table that contains a hierarchical representation of every job in the company in every city. Suppose I have 3 people in the people table: [name(PK),title,city] Jim, Salesman, Houston Jane, Associate Marketer, Chicago Bill, Cashier, New York And I have thousands of job type/location combinations in the job table, a sample of which follow. You can see the hierarchical relationship since parent_title is a foreign key to title: [title,city,pay,parent_title] Salesman, Houston, $50000, CEO Cashier, Houston, $25000 CEO, USA, $1000000 Associate Marketer, Chicago, $75000 Senior Marketer, Chicago, $125000 ..... The problem I'm having is that my Person table is a composite key, so I don't know how to structure the start with part of my query so that it starts with each of the three jobs in the cities I specified. I can execute three separate queries to get what I want, but this doesn't scale well. e.g.: select * from jobs start with city = (select city from people where name = 'Bill') and title = (select title from people where name = 'Bill') connect by prior parent_title = title UNION select * from jobs start with city = (select city from people where name = 'Jim') and title = (select title from people where name = 'Jim') connect by prior parent_title = title UNION select * from jobs start with city = (select city from people where name = 'Jane') and title = (select title from people where name = 'Jane') connect by prior parent_title = title How else can I get a distinct list (or I could wrap it with a distinct if not possible) of all the jobs which are above the three people I specified?

• Silverlight - How do I make each item in a list box be the same height?

  How can I make a silverlight listbox have all items be the same size and have them take up 100% of the listbox height. I.e. 1 item would be the height of the listbox, 2 items would each be 50% of the height of the list box, etc... • Why does the .NET tab in the 'Add Reference' dialog in Visual Studio not list the contents of the GA

  Duplicate of: Getting assemblies to show in the .NET tab of Add Reference So, I'm using Visual C# 2008 Express Edition and I've just been on a bit of a detour as I found out that my assumption that the .NET tab of the 'Add Reference' dialog lists the contents of the GAC was incorrect. This was a bit of a problem for me as the assembly that I wanted to reference from my project was only available in the GAC. (It was Microsoft.XNA.Framework v2.0 obtained from the XNA 2.0 redistributalbe and as far as I could see it installed only into the GAC). I worked round the problem by setting the reference to Microsoft.XNA.Framework manually in the .csproj file and then getting a copy of the dll out of the cache. I was then able to create a directory for the DLL, add it to Visual Studio's list of assembly directories in the registry and then voila! I could see it in the .NET tab. This all seems like a bit of a faff to me and I don't think that my initial assumption (that the .NET tab shows the contents of the GAC) was that unreasonable or would be that uncommon. Can someone who knows more than me tell me why the contents of the GAC aren't shown? The documentation just says that they are not, but is there a good reason? is there actually a way to get the entire contents of the GAC to be listed? A tick box I've missed somewhere? Any info much appreciated.

  I am trying to reverse-engineer a preferences file (not for any nefarious purposes, just so that I can script usage of it) that, among other things, has arrays of coordinates stored within it. This is the salient snippet from the property list: <dict> <key>$class</key> <dict> <key>CF$UID</key> <integer>34</integer> </dict> <key>coordArray</key> <data> AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT70vS8/M7xSPwAAAD8AAAA/AAAA </data> <key>coordCount</key> <integer>1</integer> </dict> I assume that data string is an array of coordinates (based on its key name). My question is, how can I figure out what data is stored there? If I simply base64-decode that string, I get gibberish. Is there a way to decode it and cast it into whatever format it came from (NSArray, I think)?

• WPF Custom ListBox as Buttons Click not firing

  I am attempting to have a ListBox of TextBoxes with click events. I have read that one way to achieve this was to have a list of Buttons and call ButtonBase.Click="" on the ListBox. This was not working. Any advice as to how I would hook up a click event to the listbox items?   I am using the below code for my WordPress site which is emailing all the form details as an HTML text but I need the details to be written into a PDF first and then have to email the PDF as an attachment. How can I achieve this? This is not a PHP code to use PHP's writePDF modules. • Where can I find a list of 'Stop' words for Oracle fulltext search?

  I've a client testing the full text (example below) search on a new Oracle UCM site. The random text string they chose to test was 'test only'. Which failed; from my testing it seems 'only' is a reserved word, as it is never returned from a full text search (it is returned from metadata searches). I've spent the morning searching oracle.com and found this which seems pretty comprehensive, yet does not have 'only'. So my question is thus, is 'only' a reserved word. Where can I find a complete list of reserved words for Oracle full text search (10g)? Full text search string example; (<ftx>test only</ftx>) Update. I have done some more testing. Seems it ignores words that indicate places or times; only, some, until, when, while, where, there, here, near, that, who, about, this, them. Can anyone confirm this? I can't find this in on Oracle anywhere. Update 2. Post Answer I should have been looking for 'stop' words not 'reserved'. Updated the question title and tags to reflect.

• Retrieve a list of the most popular GET param variations for a given URL?

  I'm working on building intelligence around link propagation, and because I need to deal with many short URL services where a reverse-lookup from an exact URL address is required, I need to be able to resolve multiple approximate versions of the same URL. An example would be a URL like http://www.example.com?ref=affil&hl=en&ct=0 Of course, changing GET params in certain circumstances can refer to a completely different page, especially if the GET params in question refer to a profile or content ID. But a quick parse of the page would quickly determine how similar the pages were to each other. Using a bit of machine learning, it could quickly become clear which GET params don't effect the content of the pages returned for a given site. I'm assuming a service to send a URL and get a list of very similar URLs could only be offered by the likes of Google or Yahoo (or Twitter), but they don't seem to offer this feature, and I haven't found any other services that do. If you know of any services that do cluster together groups of almost identical URLs in the aforementioned way, please let me know. My bounty is a hug.

• Can you have a Dynamic Data Field which consists of a list of fields?

  This is a purely theoretical question (at least until I start trying to implement it) but here goes. I wrote a web form a long time ago which has a configurable section for getting information. Basically for some customers there are no fields, for other customers there are up to 20 fields. I got it working by dynamically creating the fields at just the right time in the page lifecycle and going through a lot of headaches. 2 years later, I need to make some pretty big updates to this web form and there are some nifty new technologies. I've worked with ASP.NET Dynamic Data just a bit and, well, I half-crazed plan just occurred to me: The Ticket object has a one-to-many relationship to ExtendedField, we'll call that relationship Fields for brevity. Using that, the idea would be to create a FieldTemplate that dynamically generated the list of fields and displayed it. The big questions here would probably be: 1) Can a single field template resolve to multiple web controls without breaking things? 2) Can dynamic data handle updating/inserting multiple rows in such a fashion? 3) There was a third question I had a few minutes ago, but coworkers interrupted me and I forgot. So now the third question is: what is the third question? So basically, does this sound like it could work or am I missing a better/more obvious solution?

I have implemented a "Click and Drag" scrolling technique so that the user scrolls with the mouse via clicking and dragging.   I'm looking for an efficient way to get the list of unique commit authors for an SVN repository as a whole, or for a given resource path. I haven't been able to find an SVN command specifically for this (and don't expect one) but I'm hoping there may be a better way that what I've tried so far in Terminal (on OS X): svn log --quiet | grep "^r" | awk '{print $3}' svn log --quiet --xml | grep author | sed -E "s:</?author>::g" Either of these will give me one author name per line, but they both require filtering out a fair amount of extra information. They also don't handle duplicates of the same author name, so for lots of commits by few authors, there's tons of redundancy flowing over the wire. More often than not I just want to see the unique author usernames. (It actually might be handy to infer the commit count for each author on occasion, but even in these cases it would be better if the aggregated data were sent across instead.) I'm generally working with client-only access, so svnadmin commands are less useful, but if necessary, I might be able to ask a special favor of the repository admin if strictly necessary or much more efficient. The repositories I'm working with have tens of thousands of commits and many active users, and I don't want to inconvenience anyone.

  Sorry for the long title, but it seems most descriptive for my question. Basically, I'm having a difficult time finding exception information in the official python documentation. For example, in one program I'm currently writing, I'm using the shutil libary's move function: from shutil import move move('somefile.txt', '/tmp/somefile.txt') That works fine, as long as I have write access to /tmp/, there is enough diskspace, and if all other requirements are satisfied. However, when writing generic code, it is often difficult to guarantee those factors, so one usually uses exceptions: from shutil import move try: move('somefile.txt', '/tmp/somefile.txt') except: print 'Move failed for some reason.' I'd like to actually catch the appropriate exceptions thrown instead of just catching everything, but I simply can't find a list of exceptions thrown for most python modules. Is there a way for me to see which exceptions a given function can throw, and why? This way I can make appropriate cases for each exception, eg: from shutil import move try: move('somefile.txt', '/tmp/somefile.txt') except PermissionDenied: print 'No permission.' except DestinationDoesNotExist: print "/tmp/ doesn't exist" except NoDiskSpace: print 'No diskspace available.'   Here's what I take to be a pretty standard header for a list. Because the struct points to itself, we need this two-part declaration. Call it listicle.h: typedef struct _listicle listicle; struct _listicle{ int i; listicle *next; }; I'm trying to get swig to wrap this, so that the Python user can make use of the listicle struct. So far the function is in use in 3 location. Each of them generates HTML using the same template under django. The function works perfectly in 2 of the 3 locations, and I"m plain stumped as to why the 3rd won't work. Below is the complete set of relevant javascript, the page load HTML for the relevant section. And 2 examples of HTML that is loaded through the script, 1 of them works, 1 of them doesn't and both are loaded into the same page load HTML Any ideas what I'm missing here?
