  • Commiting broken code to the repository for the purpose of backing it up

    - by Tim Merrifield
I was just talking to another developer (more senior than I) and trying to convince him that we should implement continuous integration via Cruise Control. He told me that this will not work because he commits code that does not compile to the repository all the time for the purposes of backing it up. And that automated builds notifying us of failures would be just noise. Committing garbage to the repo sounds bad to me. But I was at a loss of words and didn't know what to say. What is the alternative? What's the best practice for backing up your code on another machine without adding a bunch of pointless revisions? BTW, our version control system is SVN and that probably won't change any time soon.

  • How to hide overflow in this example?

    - by Abe Miessler
    You can see the fiddle here: http://jsfiddle.net/easeS/4/ Here is the html/css I have: #main div { float:left; width:30px; margin-right:10px; } #main { overflow:hidden; width:100px; height:50px; border:1px solid; } <div id="main"> <div>test1</div> <div>test2</div> <div>test3</div> </div> I'm not sure why but it bumps the third div down to a new line instead of hiding it. Any suggestions?

  • VB6 lives forever like Cobol

    - by Kb
In the last 3-5 years I have been renewing an insurance application and a commmercial integration toolkit based on vb6. According to Microsoft's "It just works policy" the IDE is no longer supported after april 8th 2008 It still works to develop and deploy vb 6 apps. The question is: When will it be impossible to support vb6 applications, or will they live forever like Cobol applications do? Update: Microsoft statement march 2010: The Visual Basic team is committed to “It Just Works” compatibility for Visual Basic 6.0 applications on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 including R2, and Windows 7.

  • Logical Programming Problem

    - by user353060
Hello, I've been trying to solve this problem for quite sometime but I am having trouble with it. Let's say on a trigger, you receive values. First trigger: You get 1 Second trigger: You get 1, 2 Third trigger: You get 1, 2, 3 So, I store 1. For 2nd trigger, I store 2 since 1 already exist. For 3rd trigger, I store 3 since 1,2 already exist so in total I have stored 1,2,3 As you can see, we can easily check for new values, if old != new. Here's come the problem: Fourth trigger: You get 1, 2, 4 For 4th trigger, I store 1, 2 because it exists but how do I check against 3 and remove 3 from store and check if 4 is new? If you are having problems understanding this, feel free to clarify. Thanks!

  • jquery: .attr() fails for child element

    - by user984003
I'm going crazy staring at this. I need to change the attribute of an element, something which I have done many times before. But it fails. Now I can't even get jquery to show me the attribute that it has. Does it have to do with what is returned by find()? var c = new_photo_div.find('[class = photo]')[0]; alert(c); alert(new_photo_div.attr('class')); alert(c.attr('class')); The first alert correctly identifies the element: Object HTMLImageElement The second alert correctly gives me the class of new_photo_div. The third alert fails. No alert. I think it should say: photo

  • iOS Downloading Videos and saving in Application Support folder

    - by Satyam svv
In my application, i've to download videos around 10 to my application and play accordingly. Each video is around 50 MB. I'm using following code and then after downloading the video, i'm saving it to Application support folder to avoid icloud sync. But the problem is that when downloading the videos its crashing. [NSURLConnection sendAsynchronousRequest:req queue:[[NSOperationQueue alloc] init] completionHandler:^(NSURLResponse *response, NSData *rcvdDat, NSError * err) { . . . } What I'm thinking is that, while downloading the video, it resides in memory and so the total memory occupying by the app is increasing. Finally iOS is making the app to close. I would like to download the video and when ever a stream of data received, write to temp file and when completes move it to application support folder. Can some one help me on how to write it to file and save it at the end? I cannot use 3rd party libraries (unless its small) due to legal issues.

  • Expected symbol problems with this function declaration

    - by Derek
I am just getting back into the C programming realm and I am having an issue that I think is linker related. I am using cmake for the first time as well, so that could be adding to my frustration. I have included a third party header file that contains a typedef that my code is trying to use, and it has this line: typedef struct a a_t so my code has a_t *var; //later..... var->member;// this line throws the error which throws the error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type So am I just missing another include file, or is this a linker issue? I am building this code in QtCreator and using cmake. I can dive on a_t to see that typedef declaration in the included header, but I can't seem to dive on "struct a" itself to see where it's coming from. Thanks

  • Which .NET data provider?

    - by worlds-apart89
I am new to database programming, so I'd like help getting on the right track. I have read that there are Microsoft-defined and third-party data providers for data access. MSDN has information on data providers for SQL Server, OLE DB, ODBC, Oracle, as well as the EntityClient provider (Entity Framework). Which data provider is today's hottest, most-widely used model? Which one is the future? Also, I have seen Linq to SQL tutorials, but what category does L2S fall into?

  • Add static const data to a struct already defined

    - by Kyle
Since static const data inside a class is really just namespace sugar for constants I would think that struct A { float a; struct B { static const int b = a; }; }; would be equivalent to struct A { float a; }; struct A::B { static const int b = a; }; or something similar. Is something like this possible in C++? It would be useful for me to be able to tag class definitions that I'm pulling in from third party libraries with information like this.

  • django - change content inside an iframe

    - by fabriciols
Hello guys, I have a site running in django and want to make it available on third party sites. In these sites they make my content available through an tag. When my site is requested from within that iframe I would like to modify the content (remove header, filter data, etc.). What would be the best way to do this? Is there any way of knowing that the request is being made from an iframe? Multiples sites will request the same url, can I change the content, based on the requesting site? Thanks! PS: Sorry for my bad english :/

  • Python lxml - returns null list

    - by Chris Finlayson
I cannot figure out what is wrong with the XPATH when trying to extract a value from a webpage table. The method seems correct as I can extract the page title and other attributes, but I cannot extract the third value, it always returns an empty list? from lxml import html import requests test_url = 'SC312226' page = ('https://www.opencompany.co.uk/company/'+test_url) print 'Now searching URL: '+page data = requests.get(page) tree = html.fromstring(data.text) print tree.xpath('//title/text()') # Get page title print tree.xpath('//a/@href') # Get href attribute of all links print tree.xpath('//*[@id="financial"]/table/tbody/tr/td[1]/table/tbody/tr[2]/td[1]/div[2]/text()') Unless i'm missing something, it would appear the XPATH is correct: Chrome screenshot I checked Chrome console, appears ok! So i'm at a loss $x ('//*[@id="financial"]/table/tbody/tr/td[1]/table/tbody/tr[2]/td[1]/div[2]/text()') [ "£432,272" ]

  • Protect value from changies using reflection?

    - by IordanTanev
Hi, here is the problem case i am writing a little third party library. In this library i have a class like this public class TestClass { public int TestField { get; private set; } public TestClass( ) { TestField = 1; } } Then i have a varialbe form this class like this public TestClass test = new TestClass( ); The problem i am facing is that usnig reflection like this PropertyInfo field = typeof( TestClass ).GetProperty( "TestField" ); field.SetValue( test, 2, null ); programers can change internal value of this class. this will be very bad thing becouse it can crash the hole library. My question is what is the best way to protect my code form such changes.I know i can use some kind of bool flag so tha value can be changed only ones but this is not very good salution is there a better one? • Is there a server side API for Team Foundaion Server

    - by Ralph Shillington
It would seem there is precious little documentation on programming against a TFS 2010 instance. What bits I have found, have next to nothing in the case of documentation beyond barebones listing of client access classes and their members, most likely autogenerated from the code comments. As I'm interested in building a silverlight client against TFS, I will need access to server side API (ideally the silverlight app will talk to my server (mainly for work items) and my server will in turn talk to the TFS server for the goods. Where is the doumentation (if any) for this kind of TFS integration?

  • Can I switch the Visual C++ runtime to another heap?

    - by sharptooth
My program uses a third party dynamic link library that has huge memory leaks inside. Both my program and the library are Visual C++ native code. Both link to the Visual C++ runtime dynamically. I'd like to force the library into another heap so that all allocations that are done through the Visual C++ runtime while the library code is running are done on that heap. I can call HeapCreate() and later HeapDestroy(). If I somehow ensure that all allocations are done in the new heap I don't care of the leaks anymore - they all go when I destroy the second heap. Is it possible to force the Visual C++ runtime to make all allocations on a specified heap?

  • Quick way to get an NSDictionary from an XML NSData representation?

    - by dontWatchMyProfile
I've loaded an XML file as NSData into memory and parse over the elements using NSXMLParser. Although it works, it's a very ugly and hard to maintain code since there are about 150 different elements to parse. I know there are nice third-party solutions, but I want to keep it with the iPhone SDK for purpose of practice and fun. So I thought: Why not convert that XML file into an NSDictionary? Having this, I could use fast enumeration to go over the elements. Or is it just the same amount of ugly code needed to parse and process an XML right away with NSXMLParser? Would I build up an NSDictionary for every found node in the XML and create a huge one, containing the whole structure and data? Or is there an even simpler way?

  • What is the accepted way to replace java.util.Date(year,month,day)

    - by dagw
I'm trying to do something really simple, but starting to realize that dates in Java are a bit of minefield. All I want is to get passed groups of three ints ( a year, a month and a date) create some Date objects, do some simple test on them (along the lines of as date A before date B and after January 1 1990), convert them to java.sql.Date objects and pass them off to the database via JDBC. All very simple and works fine using the java.util.Date(int year, int month, int day) constructor. Of course that constructor is depreciated, and I'd like to avoid using depreciated calls in new code I'm writing. However all the other options to solve this simple problem seem stupidly complicated. Is there really no simple way to do what I want without using depreciated constructors? I know the standard answer to all Java date related questions is "use joda time", but I really don't want to start pulling in third party libraries for such a seemingly trivial problem.

  • MSSQL / T-SQL : How to update equal percentages of a resultset?

    - by Kent Comeaux
I need a way to take a resultset of KeyIDs and divide it up as equally as possible and update records differently for each division based on the KeyIDs. In other words, there is SELECT KeyID FROM TableA WHERE (some criteria exists) I want to update TableA 3 different ways by 3 equal portions of KeyIDs. UPDATE TableA SET FieldA = Value1 WHERE KeyID IN (the first 1/3 of the SELECT resultset above) UPDATE TableA SET FieldA = Value2 WHERE KeyID IN (the second 1/3 of the SELECT resultset above) UPDATE TableA SET FieldA = Value3 WHERE KeyID IN (the third 1/3 of the SELECT resultset above) or something to that effect. Thanks for any and all of your responses.

  • How should my main web application (A) securely retrieve data from my content storage web applicatio

    - by fonacule
I have two web applications (A) and (B). (A) is my primary web application. (B) is purely for content storage, such as file uploads by users of (A). What's best way to securely retrieve data from (B) into (A) but in a way that does not expose the data in (B) to potential discovery by third-parties over the public internet or nosy users of (A)? For example, if I use a HTML form POST from (A) to (B) to retrieve user data, and have a hidden form field called user_id=1, then someone could simply change this to user_id=2 and see the content owned by another user of the application. That would be a problem.

  • Paypal payments verify

    - by user2800899
(sorry for my english). I have implemented Paypal sdk for android, it works fine! But maybe for my english I don´t understand what i have to do here: @Override protected void onActivityResult (int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { if (resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) { PaymentConfirmation confirm = data.getParcelableExtra(PaymentActivity.EXTRA_RESULT_CONFIRMATION); if (confirm != null) { try { Log.i("paymentExample", confirm.toJSONObject().toString(4)); // TODO: send 'confirm' to your server for verification. // see https://developer.paypal.com/webapps/developer/docs/integration/mobile/verify-mobile-payment/ // for more details. } catch (JSONException e) { Toast.makeText(this, "Ha ocurrido un error, inténtelo de nuevo en unos instantes", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); IrActivityAnterior(); } } } I have read about it but I don´t know if I need to send a proof of payment to the person who has bought my app or if I only need to get this proof and save it. And the other question is how can I verify it? What steps I need to follow?? Thank you!!

  • In which document do file specifications belong?

    - by Andrew
In which document would a file specification belong? Perhaps this file is used as an input to a third-party system. Would it belong in its own document? Or would it be better to put it in the functional or design spec? Or somewhere else? When I say file specification, I mean a description of what format the file is (CSV, fixed width, etc), columns, data types, etc. Also, where should you document how the file is generated? i.e. business rules/algorithms which are used to generate the file.

  • Getting req.params in order in Express JS

    - by Adam Terlson
In Express, is there a way to get the arguments passed from the matching route in the order they are defined in the route? I want to be able to apply all the params from the route to another function. The catch is that those parameters are not known up front, so I cannot refer to each parameter by name explicitly. app.get(':first/:second/:third', function (req) { output.apply(this, req.mysteryOrderedArrayOfParams); // Does this exist? }); function output() { for(var i = 0; i < arguments.length; i++) { console.log(arguments[i]); } } Call on GET: "/foo/bar/baz" Desired Output (in this order): foo bar baz

  • Union - Same table, excluding previous results MySQL

    - by user82302124
I'm trying to write a query that will: Run a query, give me (x) number of rows (limit 4) If that query didn't give me the 4 I need, run a second query limit 4-(x) and exclude the ids from the first query A third query that acts like the second I have this: (SELECT *, 1 as SORY_QUERY1 FROM xbamZ where state = 'Minnesota' and industry = 'Miscellaneous' and id != '229' limit 4) UNION (SELECT *, 2 FROM xbamZ where state = 'Minnesota' limit 2) UNION (SELECT *, 3 FROM xbamZ where industry = 'Miscellaneous' limit 1) How (or is?) do I do that? Am I close? This query gives me duplicates

  • Magento: setup both APC and memcached

    - by snh_nl
Magento: setup both APC and memcached Hi, our hosting party installed both APC and memcached. How do I configure both correctly - so that they dont start caching each other for example. any ideas? I would like the following: opcode for php, so APC is primary cache cache /var/session and /var/cache cache / speedup database requests And we have fullpage cache now, how do we relate this My question - What settings do I need? It is not clear how these two work together ... I did some research and found this: http://www.coeusblue.com/blog/48-magento/65-magento-caching http://magebase.com/magento-tutorials/speeding-up-magento-with-apc-or-memcached/

  • Game Objects Talking To Each Other

    - by PhilCK
What is a good way of dealing with objects and having them talk to each other? Up until now all my games hobby/student have been small so this problem was generally solved in a rather ugly way, which lead to tight integration and circular dependencies. Which was fine for the size of projects I was doing. However my projects have been getting bigger in size and complexity and now I want to start re-using code, and making my head a simpler place. The main problem I have is generally along the lines of Player needs to know about the Map and so does the Enemy, this has usually descended into setting lots of pointers and having lots of dependencies, and this becomes a mess quickly. I have thought along the lines of a message style system. but I cant really see how this reduces the dependencies, as I would still be sending the pointers everywhere. Thanks. PS: I guess this has been discussed before, but I don't know what its called just the need I have.
