• Accessing HttpRequest from Global.asax via a page

  I'm trying to get a property (ImpersonatePersonId) from a page in global.asax but get a HttpException saying 'Request is not available in this context'. I've been searching for some documentation on where in the pipeline the request is accessible, but as far as I can see all Microsoft can produce of documentation is one-liners like "PostRequestHandlerExecute: Occurs when the ASP.NET event handler finishes execution." which really doesn't give me much... I've tried placing the call in both Pre and PostRequestHandlerExceute but with the same result. I wonder if anyone with experience in this would be so kind as to tell me where the Request object is available. My code from global asax is below. • Why an object declared in method is subject to garbage collection before the method returns?

UPDATE: Previously I thought obj is not subject to garbage collection until foo() returns. However, today I find myself wrong. I have spend several hours in fixing a bug and finally found the problem is caused by obj garbage collected! Can anyone explain why this happens? And if I want obj to be pinned how to achieve it? • .NET and XML: How can I read nested namespaces (<abc:xyz:name attr="value"/>)?

  Suppose there is an element in XML data: <abc:xyz:name attr="value"/> I'm trying to read it with XmlReader. The problem is that I get XmlException that says The ‘:’ character, hexadecimal value 0x3A, cannot be included in a name I have already declared "abc" namespace. I have also tried adding "abc:xyz" and "xyz" namespaces. But this doesn't help at all. I could replace some text before parsing but there may be some more elegant solution. So what should I do?   Hello, I've recently set up an ASP.net site (not using MVC.net) to use URL Routing (more on the code below) - when using user controls on the site (i.e I've created a "menu" user control to hold menu information) the page_load event for that control will fire twice when URLs have more than one variable passed over. i.e. pageName/VAR1 : will only fire the page_load event once. while pageName/VAR1/VAR2 : will fire the page_load event twice. *Multiple extra VARs added on the end will still only fire the page_load event twice*. • Best practice with respect to NPE and multiple expressions on single line

  I'm wondering if it is an accepted practice or not to avoid multiple calls on the same line with respect to possible NPEs, and if so in what circumstances. For example: getThis().doThat(); vs Object o = getThis(); o.doThat(); The latter is more verbose, but if there is an NPE, you immediately know what is null. However, it also requires creating a name for the variable and more import statements. So my questions around this are: Is this problem something worth designing around? Is it better to go for the first or second possibility? Is the creation of a variable name something that would have an effect performance-wise? Is there a proposal to change the exception message to be able to determine what object is null in future versions of Java ?

• Simaltaneous connections with PHP and SOAP?

  I'm new to using SOAP and understanding the utmost basics of it. I create a client resource/connection, I then run some queries in a loop and I'm done. The issue I am having is when I increase the iterations of the loop, ie: from 100 to 1000, it seems to run out of memory and drops an internal server error. How could I possibly run either a) multiple simaltaneous connections or b) create a connection, 100 iterations, close connection, create connection.. etc. "a)" looks to be the better option but I have no clue as to how to get it up and running whilst keeping memory (I assume opening and closing connections) at a minimum. • Determining threshold for lock escalation

  I have a table with around 2.5 millions records and will be updating around 700k of them and want to update these while still allowing other users to see the data. My update statement looks something like this: UPDATE A WITH (UPDLOCK,ROWLOCK) SET A.field = B.field FROM Table_1 A INNER JOIN Table2 B ON A.id = B.id WHERE A.field IS NULL AND B.field IS NOT NULL I was wondering if there was any way to work out at what point sql server will escalate a lock placed on an update statement (as I don't want the whole table to be locked)? I don't have permissions to run a server trace to see how the locks are being applied, so is there any other way of knowing at what point the lock will be escalated to cover the whole table? Thanks!

  C++ noob here. I have a very basic question about a construct I found in the C++ book I am reading. // class declaration class CStr { char sData[256]; public: char* get(void); }; // implementation of the function char* CStr::get(void) { return sData; } So the Cstr::get function is obviously meant to return a character pointer, but the function is passing what looks like the value (return sData). Does C++ know to return the address of the returned object? My guess would have been that the function definition would be return &sData.

  This is what it says on the help.ubuntu.com website, but when i go to system settings, it does not have a Launcher & Menus option. I wish I could revert back to the old Ubuntu, I hate this launcher. Does any know a fix plz?   Is there a way to view stack elements like un-assigned return values or exceptions that not assigned to a local variable? (e.g. throw new ...) For example, suppose I have code along the lines of: public String foo(InputStream in) throws IOException { NastyObj obj = null; try { obj = new NastyObj(in); return (obj.read()); } finally { if (obj != null) obj.close(); } } Is there any way to view the return or exception value without stepping to a higher level frame where it is assigned? This is particularly relevant with exceptions because you often have to step back up through a number of frames to find an actual handler. I usually use the Eclipse debugging environment, but any answer is appreciated. Also, if this cannot be done, can you explain why? (JVM, JPDA limitation?)

  Hi, I have a problem, I created a full text search query which return a record(s), in which the paramater I have supplied match(es) in every fields(full-text indexed) of multiple tables. The problem is , when the user.id is equal to ceritification.AId it returns a records eventhough it was not satisfied with the parameter supplied. For this example I supplied a value "xandrick" which return an Id=184, but the problem is it returns two ids which is 184 and 154.What is the best way to return an ID(s) that satisfied of the supplied given value? • node.js with SQL Server Native Client 11 scope_identity not being returned

  I'm having trouble with inserting a value into a database through node.js. Here is the offending code: sql.query(conn_str ,"INSERT INTO Login(email, hash, salt, firstName, lastName) VALUES(?, ?, ?, ?, ?); SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() AS 'Identity';" , [email, hash, salt, firstName, lastName], function(err, results){ console.log(results) } Unfortunately, the console is just echoing [], meaning results is an empty array, I suppose. Does anyone know why the identity is not being returned? Even if it was null, why isn't results then [{Identity: null }] ? Database is on Azure, which does have a "Scope_Identity" function, and the native client also recognises this function. Using node package "msnodesql" Please Help
