  • problem in reading output of dd command using pipe

    - by Ummar
I am developing an application, in which I want to redirect the output (progress information) of dd command to my C++ program, but it is not actually getting the output, here is the code FILE * progressInfo = popen("gzip -dc backup/backup.img.gz | pv -ptrbe -i 2 -s 2339876653 | dd of=/dev/sdb","r"); if(!progressInfo) { return -1; } char buf[1024]; while(fgets(buff, sizeof(buff),progressInfo)!=NULL) { std::cout << buff << endl; } but the problem is the progress information is not received in buff, and the output is continuously printed on terminal, and above program halts on while(fgets(buff, sizeof(buff),progressInfo)!=NULL), and as soon as the dd operation is completed, the very next line to loop block is executed. if anyone has any idea why the output is not returned to buff, and its continuously retuned on terminal?

  • reading a line, tokenizing and assigning to struct in C

    - by Dervin Thunk
line is fgets'd, and running in a while loop with counter n, d is a struct with 2 char arrays, p and q. Basically, in a few words, I want to read a line, separate it into 2 strings, one up until the first space, and the rest of the line. I clean up afterwards (\n from the file becomes \'0'). The code works, but is there a more idiomatic way to do this? What errors am I running into "unknowingly"? int spc = strcspn(line," "); strncpy(d[n].p, line, spc); d[n].p[spc+1]='\0'; int l = strlen(line)-spc; strncpy(d[n].q, line+spc+1, l); char* nl = strchr(d[n].q, '\n'); if(nl){ *nl='\0'; } n++; Thanks.

  • Haskell: reading multiple command line arguments

    - by Survot
Hi all, Okay, so I am making a program in Haskell that needs to change certain words based on two command line arguments. I have made the replace function and everything works great, but I am stumped getting it to work with command line arguments. Here is the main code: (replace function not included) main = do text <- getContents (command1:command2:_) <- getArgs putStrLn (replace (read command1) (read command2) text) So for intstance in the terminal I want to be able to type something like: "--- cat textfile.txt | ./replace oldword newword" I know this code is close since I have seen others do it this way. O_o Thanks for any help

  • How to hide div serverside by reading cookie

    - by user338109
I am using following a tutorial from here: http://www.shopdev.co.uk/blog/cookies-with-jquery-designing-collapsible-layouts/ This is the script I use: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> $(function() { // SETUP: // When the info banner is clicked: $('#setup').click(function() { $('#intro').css("display","none"); $.cookie('intro', 'collapsed'); }); // COOKIES // Info banner state var intro = $.cookie('intro'); // READ THE COOKIES if (intro == 'collapsed') { $('#intro').css("display","none"); }; }); </script> The script hides the following div as the cookie is read: <div class="feedback attention" id="intro"> Text goes here <a id="setup" href="#">Ok I get it, please hide this</a> </div> Everything work great but when the page loads the div is shown for a split second. I guess the solution is to present two different pieces of markup serverside according to the cookie info. I have no idea how to go about this.

  • Reading TCP Sequence Number Before Sending a Packet

    - by Sadeq Dousti
I'm writing a C/C++ client-server program under Linux. Assume a message m is to be sent from the client to the server. Is it possible for the client to read the TCP sequence number of the packet which will carry m, before sending m? In fact, I'd like to append this sequence number to m, and send the resulting packet. (Well, things are more complicated, but let's keep it that simple. In fact, I'd like to apply authentication info to this sequence number, and then append it to m.) Moreover, is it possible for the server to read the TCP sequence number of the packet carrying m?

  • CoreData leak when reading a property

    - by Kamchatka
Hello, I have the following code in a loop iterating over the different document objects: NSAutoreleasePool* pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; [document primitiveValueForKey:@"data"]; [data writeToFile:filename atomically:NO]; [document.managedObjectContext refreshObject:document mergeChanges:NO]; [pool release]; The "data" property is a large blob (a 1MB image). And as I monitor the memory with the Allocation Instrument memory usage is increasing. I cannot find where the leak is coming from and how to remove it. Thanks!

  • Downloading and Reading

    - by Jan Evans
First I am a complete novice and need answers in plain and simple terms. I am trying to get the users manual for my Samsung galaxy s4 phone. Samsung "help" sent me a link to click but when I received it it was in Spanish tho the doc I'd said "english". The Samsung support line timed me out because I couldn't type fast enough when I told them I received it in Spanish. I explored the translator and didn't see how to translate a doc. Asked Google how to get the manual they gave a different doc I'd and sent it to clipboards. How can I read it? Now what? Tried to send this message and asking me for a tag and I have no idea what that means so I just clicked one. That's why I need the manual so desperately. It would be so much easier for me to get a paper copy of it but they want

  • Return a Const Char* by reading an @property NSString in separate class

    - by Andrew
I'm probably being an idiot here, but I cannot for the life of me find the answer that I'm looking for. I have an array of CalEvents returned from a CalendarStore query, and for other reasons I am finding the first location of any upcoming event for today that is not an all-day or multi-day event. +(const char*) suggestFirstiCalLocation{ CalCalendarStore *store = [CalCalendarStore defaultCalendarStore]; NSPredicate *allEventsPredicate = [CalCalendarStore eventPredicateWithStartDate:[NSDate date] endDate:[[NSDate date] initWithTimeIntervalSinceNow:3600] calendars:[store calendars]]; NSArray *currentEventCalendarArray = [store eventsWithPredicate:allEventsPredicate]; for (int i = 0; i< [currentEventCalendarArray count]; i++){ if (![[currentEventCalendarArray objectAtIndex:i] isAllDay]){ //Now that other events are cleared, check for multi-day NSDate *startOnDate = [[currentEventCalendarArray objectAtIndex:i] startDate]; NSDate *endOnDate = [[currentEventCalendarArray objectAtIndex:i] endDate]; if ([endOnDate timeIntervalSinceDate:startOnDate ] < 86400.0){ NSString * iCalLocation = [[currentEventCalendarArray objectAtIndex:i] location]; return [iCalLocation UTF8String]; } } } return ""; } For other reasons, I am returning a const char with the value of the location that is found. However, I cannot seem to return "iCalLocation" at all. The compiler fails on the line where I am initializing the "iCalLocation" variable: "Cannot convert to pointer type" Being frank: I am new to Objective-C, and I am still trying to figure points, properties, and such out.

  • Barcode reading method?

    - by Atlas
I recently acquired a Metrologic Barcode scanner (USB port), as everyone already knows it works as a keyboard emulator out of the box. Now my question, how do I configure the scanner and my application, so that my app can process the barcode data directly. That is, I don't want the user to focus on a "Text field" and then process the data when the KeyPress event fires.

  • Reading html with accented characters from a URL on iPhone

    - by lbh
Hello, I'm having trouble extracting the html from a website which contains accented characters. Specifically, there are French characters on the site. Currently I'm using: NSString* html= [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL: [NSURL URLWithString: url] usedEncoding: &enc error:&error]; to get html from a URL. It works perfectly fine for any sites which are all English, but with a mostly English site with French characters it returns nothing. I've tried a few different types of encoding, but none have worked for me. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Reading data from a plist file

    - by K2Digital
I'm trying to implement a Save State for my iPhone App. I've got a plist file called SaveData.plist and I can read it in via the following NSString *pListPath2 = [bundle pathForResource:@"SaveData" ofType:@"plist"]; NSDictionary *dictionary2 = [[NSDictionary alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:pListPath2]; self.SaveData = dictionary2; [dictionary release]; The Plist file has members SavedGame which is a Boolean to tell the app if there really is valid data here (if they did not exit the app in the middle of a game, I don't want their to be a Restore Point. Score which is an NSNumber. Time which is an NSNumber Playfield which is a 16 element array of NSNumbers How do I access those elements inside of the NSDictionary?

  • Reading XML or objects from a Web service

    - by Shawn
This is my first time working with webservices and I am a bit lost. I successfully called the functions, but I only can get one value from the service. I read that the easiest way is to read xml or create objects and then call their values. Currently I use functions that return the desired value but I need to call them 3 times to get all the data witch is a waste of time and resources. I tried to call the service with the URL and use it as a website or getting the service to work the same way without importing into the program. The thing is that i cant find a way to pass the values into the url, because of that i get only blank pages. What is the fastest way to get my data from the services? I need city name, temperature and a flag if the city is valid. I need to pass the zip code to the service. Thank you. My current code wetther.Weather wether = new wetther.Weather(); string farenhait = wether.GetCityWeatherByZIP(zip).Temperature; string city = wether.GetCityWeatherByZIP(zip).City; bool correct = wether.GetCityWeatherByZIP(zip).Success; I tried it that way // Retrieve XML document XmlTextReader reader = new XmlTextReader("http://xml.weather.yahoo.com/forecastrss?p=94704"); // Skip non-significant whitespace reader.WhitespaceHandling = WhitespaceHandling.Significant; // Read nodes one at a time while (reader.Read()) { // Print out info on node Console.WriteLine("{0}: {1}", reader.NodeType.ToString(), reader.Name); } This one works for the yahoo page but not for mine. I need to use this webservice - http://wsf.cdyne.com/WeatherWS/Weather.asmx

  • non blocking TCP-acceptor not reading from socket

I have the code below implementing a NON-Blocking TCP acceptor. Clients are able to connect without any problem and the writing seems occurring as well, but the acceptor doesn't read anything from the socket and the call to read() blocks indefinitely. • Reading PDF metadata in PHP

    - by Mark Trapp
I'm trying to read metadata attached to arbitrary PDFs: title, author, subject, and keywords. Is there a PHP library, preferably open-source, that can read PDF metadata? If so, or if there isn't, how would one use the library (or lack thereof) to extract the metadata? To be clear, I'm not interested in creating or modifying PDFs or their metadata, and I don't care about the PDF bodies. I've looked at a number of libraries, including FPDF (which everyone seems to recommend), but it appears only to be for PDF creation, not metadata extraction.

  • Reading lines of data from text files using java

    - by razshan
    I have a text file with x amount of lines. each line holds a integer number. When the user clicks a button, an action is performed via actionlistener where it should list all the values as displayed on the text file. However, right now I have linenum set to 10 implying I already told the code that just work with 10 lines of the text file. So, if my text file has only 3 rows/lines of data...it will list those lines and for rest of the other 7 lines, it will spit out "null". I recall there is a way to use ellipsis to let the program know that you don't know the exact value but at the end it calculates it based on the given information. Where my given information will the number of lines with numbers(data). Below is part of the code. private class thehandler implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent event){ BufferedReader inputFile=null; try { FileReader freader =new FileReader("Data.txt"); inputFile = new BufferedReader(freader); String MAP = ""; int linenum=10; while(linenum > 0) { linenum=linenum-1; MAP = inputFile.readLine();//read the next line until the specfic line is found System.out.println(MAP); } } catch( Exception y ) { y.printStackTrace(); } }}

  • Reading bytes from JavaScript string

    - by Jan
I have a string containing binary data in JS. Now I want to read, for example, an integer from it. So I get the first 4 characters, use charCodeAt, do some shifting etc. to get an integer. Problem is that strings in JS are UTF-16 (instead of ASCII) and charCodeAt often returns values higher than 256. The Mozilla reference states that "The first 128 Unicode code points are a direct match of the ASCII character encoding." (what about ASCII values 128?) How can I convert the result of charCodeAt to an ASCII value? Or is there a better way to convert a string of four characters to a 4 byte integer?
