  • Reading and writing in parallel

    - by Malfist
    I want to be able to read and write a large file in parallel, or if not in parallel, at least in blocks so that I don't use up so much memory. This is my current code: // Define memory stream which will be used to hold encrypted data. MemoryStream memoryStream = new MemoryStream(); // Define cryptographic stream (always use Write mode for encryption). CryptoStream cryptoStream = new CryptoStream(memoryStream, encryptor, CryptoStreamMode.Write); //start encrypting using (BinaryReader reader = new BinaryReader(File.Open(fileIn, FileMode.Open))) { byte[] buffer = new byte[1024 * 1024]; int read = 0; do { read = reader.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length); cryptoStream.Write(buffer, 0, read); } while (read == buffer.Length); } // Finish encrypting. cryptoStream.FlushFinalBlock(); // Convert our encrypted data from a memory stream into a byte array. //byte[] cipherTextBytes = memoryStream.ToArray(); //write our memory stream to a file memoryStream.Position = 0; using (BinaryWriter writer = new BinaryWriter(File.Open(fileOut, FileMode.Create))) { byte[] buffer = new byte[1024 * 1024]; int read = 0; do { read = memoryStream.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length); writer.Write(buffer, 0, read); } while (read == buffer.Length); } // Close both streams. memoryStream.Close(); cryptoStream.Close(); As you can see, it reads the entire file into memory, encrypts it, then writes it out. If I happen to be encrypting files that are very large (2GB+) it tends not to work, or at the very least, consumes ~97% of my memory. How could I do it in a more effective manner?

  • Reading a large text file to memory in C++

    - by NoneType
    Is there a way to read a large text file (~60MB) into memory at once (like a compiler flag to increase program memory limit) ? Currently, ofstream's open function throws a segmentation fault while trying to read this file. ifstream fis; fis.open("my_large_file.txt"); // Segfaults here The file just consists of rows of the form number_1<tabspace>number_2 i.e., two numbers separated by a tabspace.

  • Reading a Text file in xcode

    - by Nicolaj Zefting
    First off, I'm a complete beginner. This might be a stupid question, but here it goes: I'm currently working on an App than contains Latin texts that the users can view and read. I'm using Xcode 4 with the storybord function. Theway the app is built: user selects author - then the book - then app shows the text. I am kind of confused because i need to have various text files, depending on the users choice.

  • Java Scanner class reading strings

    - by Max
    I've created a scanner class to read through the text file and get the value what I'm after. Let's assume that I have a text file contains 1 : Fnjiei : ID 7868860 : Age 18 2 : Oipuiieerb : ID 334134 : Age 39 3 : Enekaree : ID 6106274 : Age 31 I'm trying to get a name and id number and age, but everytime I try to run my code it gives me an exception. Here's my code. Any suggestion from java gurus?:) public void readFile(String fileName)throws IOException{ Scanner input = null; input = new Scanner(new BufferedReader(new FileReader(fileName))); try { while (input.hasNextLine()){ int howMany = 3; System.out.println(howMany); String userInput = input.nextLine(); String name = ""; String idS = ""; String ageS = ""; int id; int age; int count=0; for (int j = 0; j <= howMany; j++){ for (int i=0; i < userInput.length(); i++){ if(count < 2){ // for name if(Character.isLetter(userInput.charAt(i))){ name+=userInput.charAt(i); // store the name }else if(userInput.charAt(i)==':'){ count++; i++; } }else if(count == 2){ // for id if(Character.isDigit(userInput.charAt(i))){ idS+=userInput.charAt(i); // store the id } else if(userInput.charAt(i)==':'){ count++; i++; } }else if(count == 3){ // for age if(Character.isDigit(userInput.charAt(i))){ ageS+=userInput.charAt(i); // store the age } } id = Integer.parseInt(idS); // convert id to integer age = Integer.parseInt(ageS); // convert age to integer Fighters newFighters = new Fighters(id, name, age); fighterList.add(newFighters); } userInput = input.nextLine(); } } }finally{ if (input != null){ input.close(); } } } My appology if my mere code begs to be changed.

  • Reading input files in FORTRAN

    - by lollygagger
    Purpose: Create a program that takes two separate files, opens and reads them, assigns their contents to arrays, do some math with those arrays, create a new array with product numbers, print to a new file. Simple enough right? My input files have comment characters at the beginning. One trouble is, they are '#' which are comment characters for most plotting programs, but not FORTRAN. What is a simple way to tell the computer not to look at these characters? Since I have no previous FORTRAN experience, I am plowing through this with two test files. Here is what I have so far: PROGRAM gain IMPLICIT NONE REAL, DIMENSION (1:4, 1:8) :: X, Y, Z OPEN(1, FILE='test.out', & STATUS='OLD', ACTION='READ') ! opens the first file READ(1,*), X OPEN(2, FILE='test2.out', & STATUS='OLD', ACTION='READ') ! opens the second file READ(2,*), Y PRINT*, X, Y Z = X*Y ! PRINT*, Z OPEN(3, FILE='test3.out', STATUS='NEW', ACTION='WRITE') !creates a new file WRITE(3,*), Z CLOSE(1) CLOSE(2) CLOSE(3) END PROGRAM PS. Please do not overwhelm me with a bunch of code monkey gobblety gook. I am a total programming novice. I do not understand all the lingo, that is why I came here instead of searching for help in existing websites. Thanks.

  • Reading files with Java

    - by sikas
    I would like to know how can I read a file byte by byte then perform some operation every n bytes. for example: Say I have a file of size = 50 bytes, I want to divide it into blocks each of n bytes. Then each block is sent to a function for some operations to be done on those bytes. The blocks are to be created during the read process and sent to the function when the block reaches n bytes so that I don`t use much memory for storing all blocks. I want the output of the function to be written/appended on a new file. This is what I've reached to read, yet I don't know it it is right: fc = new JFileChooser(); File f = fc.getSelectedFile(); FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(f); byte[] b = new byte[16]; in.read(b); I haven't done anything yet for the write process.

  • Reading files in a webservice

    - by mouthpiec
    Hi, I have a webservice, in which I read the settings saved in an xml file. I read the setting by the following command: string dpath = HttpContext.Current.Request.PhysicalApplicationPath.ToString(); XmlTextReader reader = new XmlTextReader(dpath + "Settings.xml"); This is working perfectly when running the application on the localhost, but when I publish the webserver I am getting an error, most probably because the settings are not being loaded. Am I using the right command to read the file ? thanks

  • problem reading a csv file in python

    - by Hossein
    Hi, I am trying to read a very simple but somehow large(800Mb) csv file using the csv library in python. The delimiter is a single tab and each line consists of some numbers. Each line is a record, and I have 20681 rows in my file. I had some problems during my calculations using this file,it always stops at a certain row. I got suspicious about the number of rows in the file.I used the code below to count the number of row in this file: tfdf_Reader = csv.reader(open('v2-host_tfdf_en.txt'),delimiter=' ') c = 0 for row in tfdf_Reader: c = c + 1 print c To my surprise c is printed with the value of 61722!!! Why is this happening? What am I doing wrong?

  • C: Reading file with a starting point

    - by Shinka
    A simple question but I can't find the answer in my book. I want to read a binary file to seed a random number generator, but I don't want to seed my generator with the same seed each time I call the function, so I will need to keep a variable for my position in the file (not a problem) and I would need to know how to read a file starting a specific point in the file (no idea how). The code: void rng_init(RNG* rng) { // ... FILE *input = fopen("random.bin", "rb"); unsigned int seed[32]; fread(seed, sizeof(unsigned int), 32, input); // seed 'rng'... fclose(input); }
