• Modify database for the SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Search administration web site

  Does anyone know how to modify the database settings for the Enterprise Search administration web site? When you configure the service application via Central Administration, SharePoint just decides to use the default database server and gives a name like Enterprise_Search_DB_Identifier. I want to modify this to atleast give a name that makes scense like SharePoint_Search_AdministrationWebContent, and it might be nice to move it to the database server that is hosting the crawl and property database. I figured out how to move the Central Administration web content database, but this database is not listed as a content database. It is listed as a Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchAdminDatabase. I have not tested to see if the same process would work but because you are doing a RemoveContentDatabase and NewContentDatabase, I would assume not. Any help would be appreciated.

  What are the options for backup software for: HOST - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with HyperV VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Exchange 2010 VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with SQL Express / SharePoint VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Terminal Services (10 users working on it) VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with AD/DNS What I'm looking at is possibility of having an offsite backup thru FTP, maybe copy to usb/esata/lan drives for easy taking backup data outside of company. What I've been looking at: - Symantec Exec Backup 2010 System Recovery has an offsite backup but I would need 5 licenses and it doesn't have granular recovery. - Symantec Exec Backup 2010 seems OK but a bit expensive - Microsoft DPM 2010 requires full SQL Standard and for each machine I would need 4 Enterprise licenses. But does it allow Offsite backup without need for additional license and server outside of company (for doing DPM backup of DPM). What other options? This is 10 people company and so the costs matter but also convenience and security. Offsite backup is requirement.

• How to best migrate one Windows 2008 R2 / SharePoint / Exchange / Terminal Services (All-in-one) int

  Hello, My client has one machine with Windows 2008 R2 and everything on it. By everything I mean AD, DNS, SharePoint 2010 Standard, Exchange 2010 Standard, Terminal Services, Office 2010 and a bunch of additional apps. Everything stands on I7 x 2 and 36gb ram for 7 people total. I've decided that we should virtualize it and split things into 4 VM's and keep host only with Hyper-V installed to host all the machines. What problems should I expect? What good advices can you give. My plan is that when i move everything to VM's i will move vm's to safe place and format the host as it has a lot of really bad things happening on it. But this also means that everything will be wiped from current solution so I have to be sure that Exchange etc will work when host gets wiped. MadBoy

  When attempting to import new AD users (Shared Services Administration Shared Service User Profiles and Properties) I receive an error on the top of the User Profiles and Properties page. "An error has occurred while accessing the SQL Server database or the Office SharePoint Server Search service. If this is the first time you have seen this message, try again later. If this problem persists, contact your administrator." I have tried the following: Rebooted server Checked service account permissions and passwords Checked the MIPSCHEDULEDJOB table to ensure all 6 required entries are there.

• Sharepoint site settings add on ssl port number?

  WSS 3.0 IIS6/WinSever2003 CAG We have several WSS sites on a SharePoint WSS box that talk to the outside, all of which are SSL enabled. So you get a CAG(Citrix Access Gateway) to translate the 443 port to the local ssl port on the server. Everything is set up and works fine until you get into the Site Settings and start rooting around, it seems like a very unstable link library. Links will try to use the local ssl port number instead of the 443 standard; it will try to skip the step. Is that the site? Any ideas on how to fix it?

• SharePoint 2010 User Profile Sync - Remove Disabled Users

  I have SharePoint 2010 set up to sync active directory users and it is working great. I am getting disabled users in the sync though. I have tried what all the blogs say, filter on userAccountControl bit on equals 2 but to no avail, the disabled users are still syncing. I am at a loss on where to look next. My last resort would be to create a ou/folder in AD and move disabled users there and remove that from the sync connector, but I don't really want to go there. Any ideas?

The guides should be focused on the actual web interface side of things such as Permissions, Layouts, Team Sites etc. I have searched high and low for guides and most of them are just "How to install Server 2010". These are useless because the installation is self explanatory. I'm at the stage where I need to learn the config side of things so I can lay my web structure out the way I want it. Has anyone got any good resources?

I have following doubts By default application pools are set to recycle themselves at 2 am in night and because of that we need warm up scripts . But As I was googling on this topic I found mixed reactions on this some MVP are saying its not advisable to recycle application pool daily and some say otherwise so I am confused. Because if I am not doing recycling application pool then I don't hv to use warmup scripts . But as my site is public facing and its all around the globe so is it advisable that I should recycle it daily as it will affect the performance of my site even though I would run warm up scripts once I don't think so it wud be as good as it should be ....Any advice on that?

• sharepoint 2007 access denied when accessing user profiles via ssp

  Guys I have a really strange problem in regards to sharepoint mysites today I go into user profiles and properties in order to setup a property all of a sudden I get access denied. First off I know that I'm logged in with the correct account after the access denied I decided to click on personalization services and permissions I than get An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface.Exception Information: Cannot complete this action. I'm not seeing anything in the server application logs either. So have any of you guys seen this before is there some kind of way to grant a user account the manage profiles right permission using stsadm. BTW all other fucntions of the ssp are working fine so my question is if the user profiles and my sites of a ssp tanks how do you repair that portion of the ssp? BTW the user accounts that I'm using are site collection owners and also they have full control at the web application level. • Sharepoint .PDF contents displaying as 'searchtext.xml' in searches

  Hi Experts, I recently used installed ifilter in my sharepoint farm to enable searching of the contents of .pdf documents. All went well, except if I search for contents of any .pdf file, they appear in the search results with document title "searchtext.xml", and the link to the document gives a giant page of the .pdf contents in an .xml looking browser page. :s I have added .pdf filetypes to the search, so I am unsure why it is reading them incorrectly.. if I search for a .pdf document title such as 'document.pdf' it will display the result as a html page, though the link does follow to a readable .pdf file. Any help?

  I have this SharePoint 2007 document library which has several levels of folders and files. Some folders in the middle of the hierarchy do not inherit permissions from their parents and have their unique permissions defined. It is a huge library and there are many folders like this. I am currently changing the permission model of my library and I want to reset all those unique permissions and have all of them inherit permissions from the library root. (Something like "Replace child object permissions" checkbox available in windows files system security window) If this is not possible, seeing a list of folders that have their unique permissions defined would also do.

• List all documents (webparts) and sites using a certain solution in sharepoint 2007

  I would like to uninstall a Sharepoint application template (GroupBoard Workspace to be exact) but I want to make sure nothing currently relies on it. I don't see any functions within stsadm that will tell me this information and I have even tried SPM which would work, but with such a huge site it's tedious to go through every single web and page to see which features are in use. Is there a way (probably with SQL using the id from stsadm -o enumsolutions) to list everything that relies on a template within a given solution, including webparts on custom pages? If this is not possible, what is the best way to check dependencies prior to uninstalling a solution (especially since GBW is not the only one on my axe list.) Note: I know that stsadm -o deletesolution will stop me from removing something that is in use, but I want to see all of the things that are using a given solution.

I'm really struggling to find the best practise solution. This is the flow: A user can make a request with a title and a description. A mail gets sent to the representative with a link to a form. A representative can approve or reject the request. If approved: A mail gets sent to Board with a link to form If rejected: A mail gets sent to the user with the message that it has been rejected. when the request was approved by the representative, the board can approve or reject the request. A mail gets sent to the user and the representative with the descision of the board. So the list has the following fields: Request title Request description Representative approval Representative description Board approval Board description The user should see the following form: Request title (editable) Request description (editable) The representative should see the following form: Request title (read-only) Request description (read-only) Representative approval (editable) Representative description (editable) The Board should see the following form: Request title (read-only) Request description (read-only) Representative approval (read-only) Representative description (read-only) Board approval (editable) Board description (editable) My questions: What tool is most appropriate for making the forms? Infopath? SPD? VS2010? How do I handle rights to make sure only the board can access the board edit form? What kind of workflow do I use? When do I start the workflow(s)? What do I use to develop the workflow(s)? How do I handle rights when showing the listview with all requests? How can I build the links in the mails sent to the different groups.   What is a Data Connection Library in SharePoint Server 2010? A Data Connection Library in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 is a library that can contain two kinds of data connections: an Office Data Connection (ODC) file or a Universal Data Connection (UDC) file. Microsoft InfoPath 2010 uses data connections that comply with the Universal Data Connection (UDC) file schema and typically have either a *.udcx or *.xml file name extension. Data sources described by these data connections are stored on the server and can be used in standard form templates and browser-enabled form templates. How to create a SharePoint Server Data Connection Library? 1. Browse to a SharePoint Server 2010 site on which you have at least Design permissions. If you are on the root site, create a new site before you continue with the next step. 2. On the Site Actions menu, click More Options. 3. • When to Use workflow engines?

  I'm totally new to this concept from design perspective. I've worked in past on some of the workflow engines as programmer but never had a clarity on why we chose the work-flow engines in first place. And as programmer I know that there are at least 100 ways to do anything when you are writing code but only few of the ways are the best! I still don't understand which use cases are best solved by workflow engines (or rather their concept) than designing a good DI enabled application. I'm looking for any general characteristics of domain-neutral use cases, where work-flow engines are one of the the best options. So my question is: What are general characteristics of a requirement which can be taken as a signal for opting for a good workflow engine and coding around it? Cheers!

  Hi! I created a report in VS using a shared data source which is connected to a sharepoint list. I have created a parameter and when I preview the Report I see the dropdownbox which I can use to make a selection from the Title field, when I do this it still shows the first record, obviously it doens't work yet (DUH!) because I need to create a query somewhere, But! I have no idea where, I tried to include <Where> <Eq> <FieldRef Name="ows_Title" /> <Value Type="Text">testValue</Value> </Eq> </Where> in the the soap request but it didn't worked... I've searched teh intarwebz but couldn't find any simliar problems... kinda stuck now...any thoughts on this? • Sharepoint/WSS Reporting Services Integration woes

  after a number of failed attempts i seem to have successfully installed the Reporting services add-in to my WSS farm. However, I seem to be missing most of the enhanced functionality eg no report library template, no report center site template. the only additional functionality available is the report viewer web part. background: 2 server WSS 3.0 farm with CA (Central admin) WFE (web front end) and reporting services addin installed on 1, and SQL05 SP2 with Reporting services (RS) and all databases installed on other. I have a VM environment set up and have rolled this back and repeated a number of times. I have configured RS within CA and activated 'Report Server INtegration Feature'. Within the 'site settings' I have a 'Reporting Services' heading with a 'manage shared schedules' item/link, not sure if there should be other options? I was of the understanding that to view reports within sharepoint i could either create a new site using the 'report center' template or add a report library to an existing site, neither of which seems available I am at a loss as to what to do, as all online information seems to do with dealing with installation issues/errors, which i seem to have eventually got past

• How to Setup Sharepoint Extranet to authenticate against a dmz AD

  I have a web app which is extended to extranet for our clients to access. We have setup a different AD server and domain for dmz and clients have to be authenticated against that domain. I'm little confused about the setup especially what all web.config files I have to update. Do I have to update the web.config file for Central admin site and the extended web app. According to this blog I need to do update both, but as soon as I make the changes in the web.config for central admin, central admin site stops working.   I have a custom workflow. This workflow removes permissions to items when an item is added (example an item is added by a service account and once added those permissions need to be removed from that item). This works as I have the service account 'hard coded' in the custom workflow. Now I would like to remove this hard coding and when a item is added to a list I would like to iterate through all users that have access to the list item. If a user matches some algorithm then remove that user from the item permissions which will be 0 to many. The piece I'm stuggling with is how to iterage all users with permission to a SPListItem. Any thoughts on how to accomplish this? Thanks in advance!

• Sharepoint Central Administration stuck / high CPU usage

  I'm using WSS 3 and I recently added a new web application to my SharePoint Server. After adding it, I wasn't able to open the Central Administration site. I also noticed that there was a w3wp.exe error (Event ID 1000) in the Event Viewer. The situation now is that the w3wp.exe process is hovering around 50% CPU usage continuously. I installed a program called IIS Peek, and it shows continuous GET requests on the Central Administration site; this happens even if I stop the Central Administration site in IIS. The IP addresses identified in the GET request is my workstation, which is what I used to attempt to access Central Administration after I created the new web application. Can someone explain what's going on and how I might fix it? It seems as if my computer tried to access Central Administration and then it hung, but the page requests that were happening at the time are somehow continuing over and over again. So my two problems are the inability to access Central Administration, and the CPU Usage of w3wp.exe, which I'm assuming are two symptoms of the same problem. I'd like to know if there's anything I can do besides restarting IIS, because we have clients accessing other sites on this server. Thanks.
