• CSS border and the :hover dynamic pseudo-class

  Hi All, I have built a persistent dropline menu with two levels using only CSS. It is pretty standard. It is a nested set of UL's and the UL's :hover state is what shows and hides the sub menu levels. Something like this: | *Pets* | Colors | Cars | | Cats | Dogs | Birds| Goats | Sheep | | Pets | *Colors* | Cars | | Red | Orange | Green | Blue| Yellow | I then added a 1px border at the bottom of the first level UL element. Like this: | *Pets* | Colors | Cars | -------------------------------------- | Cats | Dogs | Birds| Goats | Sheep | When I hover over a first level item (Pets), and then move the mouse down to the second level (Cats), the entire second level disappears. I finally figured out that the UL's 1px border is not included in the hover area for the UL. Can I add a border to the bottom of a dropline menu level without messing up the menu hovering? Thanks!

• Server crash = How does a TCP/IP (and the browser-client) behave after this?

  Hello Experts, i would be thankfull for an explanation what happens with HTTP(TCP/IP) transmissions when the server crashes unexpectedly, how does the client Browser (Firefox / IE) handle this event. What happens in the following two standard cases: Clients-actively sends data: The TCP/IP Connection has been estableshed and the Client (Web-Browser) is Sending a POST Request with some data and in the middle of the process of sending the server crashes. What does this mean for the client? As far as I know TCP/IP does not "acknowledge" a send data-package so the client does not know that the server crashed. How will the client behave? (Firefox and Internet Explorer)? The Server is actively sending data: As above the tcp/ip connection has been established and the Server is sending a large website to the client (browser). In the middle of the sending-process the server crashes, so no futher packets are sent. How does the client browser react to this event (Firefox and Interne Expolrer) Thank you very much!! Jens

  I'm creating a static library in C++. The static library itself links to nothing. To test the static library, I'm creating a test program in C++ (you know, with a main function). Now, I want that whenever I click Build in Xcode, it compiles the static library first, then compiles the test program and link that test program to the static library, like this: # The steps indicate the order Xcode should compile it # (Step 1) Static Library <----------. | (Step 2) Test Program -------> Standard Library Also, the test program should use the header files of the static library. Can anyone explain me how to configure this in Xcode? Thanks

• Databinding Error when Recreating object

  Hi All, Figure there is a simple solution to this problem but I have been unable to find it. I have databinding in an ASP.Net application to a GridView. This gridview is bound to an ObjectDataSource as per standard usage. The problem I have is that one of my bound fields uses the property DataFormatString="{0:C}" and due to the currency format being displayed when an update is attempted and the object recreated I get a error as such "$13.00 is not a valid value for Decimal." Clearly this is a result of the column using a FormatString and then attempting to bind it back to a decimal property I have in my object called UnitPrice. I am assuming there is some markup I can set that can specify how the value is translated back? Thanks in advance for any help.

  Hello, I'm trying to serialize a very large IEnumerable<MyObject> using an XmlSerializer without keeping all the objects in memory. The IEnumerable<MyObject> is actually lazy.. I'm looking for a streaming solution that will: Take an object from the IEnumerable<MyObject> Serialize it to the underlying stream using the standard serialization (I don't want to handcraft the XML here!) Discard the in memory data and move to the next I'm trying with this code: using (var writer = new StreamWriter(filePath)) { var xmlSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(MyObject)); foreach (var myObject in myObjectsIEnumerable) { xmlSerializer.Serialize(writer, myObject); } } but I'm getting multiple XML headers and I cannot specify a root tag <MyObjects> so my XML is invalid.   I have this Delphi code to set the cue text of a control on my form: procedure TfrmMain.SetCueText(edt: TWinControl; cueText: string); const ECM_FIRST = $1500; EM_SETCUEBANNER = ECM_FIRST + 1; begin SendMessage(edt.Handle,EM_SETCUEBANNER,0, LParam(PWideChar(WideString(cueText)))); end; I want the same effect on a TMemo, but the MSDN document says: You cannot set a cue banner on a multiline edit control or on a rich edit control. Is there a standard way to have a cuetext effect on a TMemo, or do I have to fiddle with the OnEnter/OnExit events and roll my own?

• Why can XSLT not parse this XML?

  Taking the XSLT and XML from this page as an example: http://www.w3schools.com/xsl/xsl_transformation.asp I have an xml file which contains (above example modified): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="cdcatalog.xsl"?> <catalog xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://tempuri.org/"> <cd> In my case, the output contains nothing when the XSLT/XML is processed by the browser. The moment I remove the attributes from the element, it works. Problem is, I don't really have the option of pre-processing those attributes out of the file. Can anyone explain how to force the XSLT to work with the XML as is, please? After all, those attributes seem fairly standard. Many thanks, Matt.

• Eclipse Javascript code assist problem in using WTP

  Hi, I'm new to WTP so excuse me if the solution to this is obvious. When i define and use a class from within the same file i get nice code assist help, i also get code assist for classes from the standard libraries. Unortunatly, when i try to use code and declarations from one file in another file i no longer get t he nice code assist features. I have searched the web and tried a couple of things, making shoure JS is enabled for the project, making sure the folder the scripts are in is added to the JS source folder list and even trying making a new folder with the decleration files in and adding it as a library. I would really like ot get this feature working so any help would be appreciated.

• RTSP streaming and save into mp4 file using VLC

  Hello All let say i am having one RTSP url (rtsp://192.168.0.17/mpeg4). the live camera is setup on the machine which relay live video. i am streaming it using vlc player and i am saving it in mp4 file on some location (i.e. c:\temp.mp4). Now i am opening another vlc player instance and open this file (c:\temp.mp4). but as it is in use and saving live streaming to that file. that will not be played. if if stop the streaming and then played temp.mp4 file then it will play the streamed (saved) video. Now my requirement is VLC player should also stream and save into temp.mp4 file continuously and at the same time that file should be played in any standard player. is it possible to do with any option using VLC player that we can do both this things simultaneously.   I have a list within Sharepoint, using a custom new form i have added a custom list form control ("New item form" for the list) and changed the SaveButton to a standard input HTML button, and added an 'onclick' event that is as follows: onclick="javascript: {ddwrt:GenFireServerEvent('__commit;__redirect={NewFormWizard2.aspx?id=}')}" this works as in saves the data and redirects to the NewFormWizard2.aspx?id= page. the question is how do i get the ID of the created item to be passed to the redirected page? thus once the form is completed it would redirect to NewFormWizard2.aspx?id=23 Thanks in advanced.

• Controlling azure worker roles concurrency in multiple instance

  I have a simple work role in azure that does some data processing on an SQL azure database. The worker basically adds data from a 3rd party datasource to my database every 2 minutes. When I have two instances of the role, this obviously doubles up unnecessarily. I would like to have 2 instances for redundancy and the 99.95 uptime, but do not want them both processing at the same time as they will just duplicate the same job. Is there a standard pattern for this that I am missing? I know I could set flags in the database, but am hoping there is another easier or better way to manage this. Thanks

• IntelliJ and internationalisation: accented characters

  I have a java application which has a GUI in both English and French, using the standard Java internationalisation services. I wrote it in JBuilder 2005 on an old machine, and recently upgraded, which has meant changing IDEs. I have finally settled on IntelliJ, which I adore. However, it doesn't seem able to handle the accented characters in my ListResourceBundle descendants which contain French. When I first created the IntelliJ project and added my source (which I did manually, to be sure nothing weird was going on behind the scenes), I noticed that all the accented characters had been changed into pairs of characters such as v©. I went through the code and corrected all of these, and assumed that the problem was fixed. But I find on running the (rebuilt) project that the pairs of characters are still showing, instead of the accented characters that I see in my code!! Can someone who has done internationalisation in IntelliJ please tell me what I need to do to fix this? Grateful TIA! PS I'm on the Mac, BTW

• MS Access 2003 - Formatting results in a list box problem.

  So I have a list box that displays averages in a table like format from a crossyab query. It's just what I need the query is right, there is just one thing. I had to set the field properties in the query as format: standard..decimal:2. Which is exactly what I needed. However..the list box will not pick up on this. First I typed the crosstab sql into the list box's properties....and then I ran into this problem. So then I actually just created the query object, saved it and set that as the rowsource for the list box. Still won't work....when I open the query it is the correct format. So is there a way to further format a text box? Is there a way tell it to limit decimal places to one or two on returned values? Thanks!

• Win32 select/poll/eof/ANYTHING!?!?!

  Using the standard Win32 file I/O API's (CreateFile/ReadFile/etc), I'm trying to wait for a file to become readable, or for an exception to occur on the file. If Windows had any decent POSIX support, I could just do: select(file_count, files_waiting_for_read, NULL, files_waiting_for_excpt, NULL, NULL); And select will return when there's anything interesting on some of the files. Windows doesn't support select or poll. Fine. I figured I could take the file and do something like: while(eof(file_descriptor)) { Sleep(100); } The above loop would exit when more data is available to be read. But nope, Windows doesn't have an equivalent of eof() either! I could possibly call ReadFile() on the file, and determine if it's at the eof that way. But, then I'd have to handle the reading at that point in time -- I'm hoping to simply be able to figure out that a file is readable, without actually reading it. What are my options?

  Suppose that I am implementing a remote proxy in Java to an object that is likely to reside on a remote server but may reside locally. There's my real object on the remote server, there's the local implementation (the proxy itself), and there's the interface I provide to my program which hides the details of where the object actually is. The local representation may contact a local or a remote implementation of the object. What is the standard terminology in Java for these things? What should I name my interfaces/classes? I've seen the terms Subjects, Images, and Implementations thrown around (probably from the GOF days), but I wonder what is acceptable way to do the naming for a framework written in Java.

• pro*C in oracle XE

  I downloaded the free express edition of oracle, Oracle XE. I couldn't find the pro*c compiler in this edition. I read somewhere that oracle 9i client has pro*C, So I presumed that oracle client for 10g XE should have it too and downloaded it. But to my disappointment, I can't find it there too. :(. Is there a way to download the older oracle 9i and use it connect to 10g XE without any compatibility problems?. Or is it possible to download the pro*C compiler alone?. I don't want to download the standard editions as they are too large(2 GB). Thanks.

• How Do I "open folder in explorer" in Netbeans PHP

  I'm attempting the conversion from Eclipse PDT to Netbeans PHP, and so far I'm really impressed. What would make things perfect is being able to open up a file structure in the standard windows explorer. Say I want to copy in a data file I've just tweaked in another app, or downloaded from a remote server, I have to navigate manually to the folder structure that I already have open in the IDE. It's just about the only thing from Eclipse that I miss in Netbeans. Any suggestions how I can reproduce the functionality?

• How to attach multiple files to a Wordpress post?

  I'm currently working on a project where we are using Wordpress 3.0 RC. The idea is to create custom post types with meta boxes to make the system easier to use for the client. Some of these posts need to have multiple files attached to them, and by attached I do not mean inserted to post but rather we'd like to keep them separate from the post body (in fact, a given post type might not even have text, only files). I'm wondering if there is a standard approach for allowing multiple files to be attached to a Wordpress post? I've managed to add a meta box that allows one file from the media library to be selected, but I have no idea how to extend this to allow an arbitrary number of files. Hope someone can help!

• Submitting a form on 'Enter' with jQuery?

  I have a bog-standard login form - an email text field, a password field and a submit button on an AIR project that's using HTML/jQuery. When I hit Enter on the form, the entire form's contents vanish, but the form isn't submitted. Does anyone know if this is a Webkit issue (Adobe AIR uses Webkit for HTML), or if I've bunged things up? I tried: $('.input').keypress(function(e){ if(e.which == 13){ $('form#login').submit(); } }); But that neither stopped the clearing behavior, or submitted the form. There's no action associated with the form - could that be the issue? Can I put a javascript function in the action?

• In writing games that deal with scancodes, what do I need to know to support international keyboards

  I am writing an input system for a game that needs to be able to handle keyboard schemes that are not just qwerty. In designing the system, I must take into consideration: Two types of input: standard shooter controls (lots of buttons being pressed and raw samples collected) and flight sim controls (the button's label is what the user presses to toggle something) Alternative software keyboard layouts (dvorak, azerty, etc) as supplied by the OS Alternative hardware keyboard layouts that supply Unicode characters My initial inclination is to sample the USB HID unicode scancodes. Interested on thoughts on what I need to do to be compatible with the world's input devices and recommendation of input APIs on both platforms.

• Best way to implement a 404 in ASP.NET

  I'm trying to determine the best way to implement a 404 page in a standard ASP.NET web application. I currently catch 404 errors in the Application_Error event in the Global.asax file and redirect to a friendly 404.aspx page. The problem is that the request sees a 302 redirect followed by a 404 page missing. Is there a way to bypass the redirect and respond with an immediate 404 containing the friendly error message? Does a web crawler such as Googlebot care if the request for a non existing page returns a 302 followed by a 404?

• Jquery Event onChange for Div

  I have a page with the following two divs: <div id="searchResults"> </div> <div class="postSearchOptions" style="display: none;"> </div> Is there any way that I can make the "postSearchOptions" div appear when the "searchResults" div is updated by an AJAX call? I don't control the AJAX calls and I want to detect any change in the "searchResults" div. I tried writing the following JQuery code, but then realized that it requires Jquery 1.4 and I only have 1.3: $("#searchResults").live("change", function() { $(".postSearchOptions").css("display", "inline"); }); Is there any way to catch the event of the searchResults div changing using either standard JavaScript or Jquery 1.3?   Im using the standard java ws implementation shipped with e.g. java6 (javax.jws.*). I have the following: import javax.jws.*; @WebService(name="Widget") public interface Widget { @WebMethod public @WebResult String getGadget(@WebParam(name = "id") long id) throw MyOwnException; } Is this possible? Do I have to annotate MyOwnException with e.g the @WebFault annotation? During my initial tests I also noticed that, on the client side, the autogenerated MyOwnException was renamed to MyOwnException_Exception and wrapped the "original" MyOwnException. Or if this is a bad idea, are there any recommended Exceptions to throw from a webservice like this?

  For those of us that have programmed enough I’m sure we have come across many different flavours of coding standards that you can use when it comes to programming. e.g. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms229042.aspx You might derive your coding standards for the current company you work for or from the original author of the code you’re working on. Coding styles are often used for specific program languages and some styles in one coding language might not be considered appropriate for others. Of course some coding standards can be applied across many different program languages. My question is do you have any good advice/links yourselves to a set of coding standards that you would recommend to others, or best practices to follow? Thank you for your time.
