  Hi, Which lightweight SQL Server type could I use on my Dev machine for a C# VS2010 project? (e.g. sql server express, sql server ce, full version etc). That is, I'm running on a VMWare fusion instance on my MacBook, and just want something to develop against for a C# VS2010 project. I'm planning on having a simple database (not many tables) but will use Entity Framework. I haven't used SQL Server before so a quick pointer re what is the best database admin interface/app to use for the version you recommend (e.g. to create database, tables etc).

• errors with gae-sessions and nose

  I'm running into a few problems with adding gae-sessions to a relatively mature GAE app. I followed the readme carefully and also looked at the demo. First, just adding the gaesesions directory to my app causes the following error when running tests with nose and nose-gae: Exception ImportError: 'No module named threading' in <bound method local.__del__ of <_threading_local.local object at 0x103e10628>> ignored All the tests run fine so not a big problem but suggests that something isn't right.   The documentation is pretty confusing on this one: The implementation of accessor methods you write for subclasses of NSManagedObject is typically different from those you write for other classes. If you do not provide custom instance variables, you retrieve property values from and save values into the internal store using primitive accessor methods. You must ensure that you invoke the relevant access and change notification methods (willAccessValueForKey:, didAccessValueForKey:, willChangeValueForKey:, didChangeValueForKey:, willChangeValueForKey:withSetMutation:usingObjects:, and didChangeValueForKey:withSetMutation:usingObjects:). NSManagedObject disables automatic key-value observing (KVO, see Key-Value Observing Programming Guide) change notifications, and the primitive accessor methods do not invoke the access and change notification methods. In accessor methods for properties that are not defined in the entity model, you can either enable automatic change notifications or invoke the appropriate change notification methods. • How do I correctly use two Not Exists statements in a where clause using Access SQL VBA?

  I have 3 Tables: NotHeard,analyzed,analyzed2. In each of these tables I have two columns named UnitID and Address. What I'm trying to do right now is to select all of the records for the columns UnitID and Address from NotHeard that don't appear in either analyzed or analyzed2. The SQL statement I created was as follows: SELECT UnitID, Address INTO [NotHeardByEither] FROM [NotHeard] Where NOT EXISTS( Select analyzed.UnitID FROM analyzed WHERE [NotHeard].UnitID = analyzed.UnitID) or NOT EXISTS( Select analyzed2.UnitID FROM analyzed2 WHERE [NotHeard].UnitID = analyzed2.UnitID) Group BY UnitID, Address I thought this would work since I've used the single NOT EXISTS subquery line and it has worked just fine for me in the past. The above query however returns the same data that is in the NotHeard table whereas if I take out the or NOT EXISTS part it works correctly. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong or how to do what I'm wanting to do?

• JQuery cookie access has stopped working for GAE app

  I have a google app engine app that has been running for some time, and some javascript code that checks for a login cookie has suddenly stopped working. As far as I can tell, NO code has changed. The relevant code uses the jquery cookies plugin (jquery.cookies.2.2.0.min.js)... // control the default screen depending // if someone is logged in if( $.cookies.get('dev_appserver_login') != null || $.cookies.get('ACSID') != null ) { alert("valid cookie!") $("#inventory-container").show(); } else { alert("INvalid cookie!") $("#welcome-container").show(); } The reason for the two checks is that in the GAE SDK, the cookies are named differently. The production system uses 'ACSID'. This if statement works in the SDK and now fails 100% of the time in production. I have verified that the cookie is, in fact, present when I inspect the page. Thoughts?

  In my environment, if I create a class in JScript syntax: class test{ } and then save it to a file named "test.js" and run it with wscript, I get a Microsoft JScript "Syntax error" at line 1. However, if I simply, say, write a function: function getInput() { var wshell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell"); wshell.Popup ("Do you want to continue?"); return userInput } getInput() and run it the same way, it works. Hopefully, there is something fundamentally wrong with my class definition. If that is the case, I am excited to find out.

• Error using MVCContrib TestHelper

  While trying to implement the second answer to a previous question, I am receiving an error. I have implemented the methods just as the post shows, and the first three work properly. The fourth one (HomeController_Delete_Action_Handler_Should_Redirect_If_Model_Successfully_Delete) gives this error: Could not find a parameter named 'controller' in the result's Values collection. If I change the code to: actual .AssertActionRedirect() .ToAction("Index"); it works properly, but I don't like the "magic string" in there and prefer to use the lambda method that the other poster used. My controller method looks like this: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Delete(State model) { try { if( model == null ) { return View( model ); } _stateService.Delete( model ); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } catch { return View( model ); } } What am I doing wrong?

• Looking for an algorithm in vb.net or c# but I don't know it's name!

  I'll do my best to explain what the algorithm is supposed to do: There's a class 'Recipe'. Each Recipe can include other Recipes but cannot include itself or any other Recipe that includes it. So, a simple example is we have just two Recipes A & B. If A adds B first, then later on B cannot add A because it will cause a loop. A more complicated example is: A,B,C (1) Recipe C Adds B (2) Recipe B Adds A (3) Recipe A attempts to add C, but can't because of the relationship. C - B - A. I can do this myself, I just wondered if this was a standard named algorithm and I could grab the optimal solution. Thanks

• NHibernate, each property is filled with a different select statement

  I'm retrieving a list of nhibernate entites which have relationships to other tables/entities. I've noticed instead of NHibernate performing JOINS and populating the properties, it retrieves the entity and then calls a select for each property. For example if a user can have many roles and I retrieve a user from the DB, Nhibernate retrieves the user and then populates the roles with another select statement. The problem is that I want to retrieve oh let's say a list of products which have various many-to-many relationships and relationships to items which have their own relationships. In the end I'm left with over a thousand DB calls to retrieve a list of 30 products. Thanks. I've also set default lazy loading to false because whenever I save the list of entities to a session, I get an error when trying to retrieve it on another page: LazyInitializationException: could not initialize proxy If anybody could shed any light I would truly appreciate it.   Let's say we have 2 classes A and B public class A{ private int member1; A() { member1 = 10; } public getMember(){ return member1; } } Class B is also on the same lines except that its member variable is named member2 and gets intitialized to say 20 inside the constructor. My Requirement : At runtime , I get a string which contains a className ( could be A or B). I want to dynamically create an object of this class along with invoking the constructor. How can I achieve this . I don't want to use interfaces for common functionality of above classes Morever, later on I set the properties of this raw object using Propery Builder Bean Util class based on a list of columns . Class clazz = Class.forName("className"); Obj obj = clazz.newInstance(); How I can dynamically convert that obj to className object.

• Sharing code between sqlite-net and servicestack ormlite?

  I am using sqlite-net to store data on my MonoDroid mobile application. I am wanting to sync this data with a server side service as well. Would it be possible to share the code for my Entity objects between sqlite-net and Servicestacks ormlite? The main difference between the two that I can see is declaring the "using namespace" statements at the top of the class for the object. Is it possible to detect the platform and set the using statements based on the platform? The other difference would be referencing the different dlls for servicestack so I suppose on the mobile app it would not compile if there are references to the servicestack namespaces... What would a good approach be to achieve sharing of this code?

• Caching instances in a jee web app

  Hi, Consider the scenario of a typical webapp with JSFs on the front and ejb3, with Hibernate as JPA provider, talking to backend database such as mysql, etc. The main user actions are login and mostly CRUD operations (minus any D(elete) operations). And the App Server is GlassFish of course. Given this scenario, how and where all would one go about providing caching to improve performance? From what I have googled, I have seen that hibernate provides some sort of caching through different cache providers. Is there any sort of caching that can be provided for the jsf pages? How about session beans or entity beans on the ejb side of things? Also, I just read about memcached and was wondering if this was something to consider?

• InvalidOperationException sequence contains more than one element even when only one element

  I have three tables, tblCompany table, tblParts table and a link table between them tblLinkCompanyParts. Since tblLinkCompanyParts is a link table so the columns that it has are LinkCompanyPartID(primary key), CompanyID from tblCompany table and PartID from tblParts as foreign keys. I have tied them up in the dbml file. In code if I write LinkCompanyParts.Parts (where LinkCompanyParts is an object of the tblLinkCompanyParts type) to get to the corresponding Part object I get the "InvalidOperationException: Sequence constains more than one element". I have looked at the data in the database and there is only one Parts record associated with the LinkCompanyPartID. The stack trace reads like at System.Linq.Enumerable.SingleOrDefault[TSource](IEnumerable`1 source) at System.Data.Linq.EntityRef`1.get_Entity() at ... I read about SingleOrDefault vs FirstOrDefault but since the link table should have a one-one mapping therefore I think SingleOrDefault should work and besides "SingleOrDefault" statement is being generated behind the scenes in the designer.cs file at the following line return this._Part.Entity; Any ideas?

  I've created an Area named "Admin". I've created also a controller(Pages) and a view(List) in this areas. When I run my app and enter the url "/Admin/Pages/List" I'm getting an The resource cannot be found error. When I enter /Pages/List, the Action method is hit but the view is not found,because the app is searching in wrong directories ~/Views/Pages/List.aspx ~/Views/Pages/List.ascx ~/Views/Shared/List.aspx ~/Views/Shared/List.ascx the view is in /Admin/Pages/List. • Including File Paths in Ocra?

  I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to include file paths in ocra and still have the application make an exe. I have it set up so that the .exe generated by ocra would sit on the same directory level as another folder. That folder is named 'Place Files Here', and the program simply performs regex commands on text files in the 'Place Files Here' folder. I can run ocra without errors if I use only Dir.getwd, but if I try to add directory = Dir.getwd + '/Place Files Here' it won't run. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

• DllImport Based on OS Platform

  I have a mixture of unmanaged code ( backend) and managed code ( front end), as such, I would need to call the unmanaged code from my managed code, using interop techniques and DllImport attribute. Now, I've compiled two versions of unmanaged code, for both 32 and 64 bit OS; they are named service32.dll and service64.dll respectively. So, in my .Net code, I would have to do a DllImport for both dlls: [DllImport(@"service32.dll")] //for 32 bit OS invocation public static void SimpleFunction(); [DllImport(@"service64.dll")] //for 64 bit OS invocation public static void SimpleFunction(); And call them depending on which platform my application is running on. The issue now is that for every unmanaged function, I have to declared it twice, one for 32 bit OS and one for 64 bit OS. This is a duplication of work, and everytime I change the signature of an unmanaged function, I have to modified it in two places. Is there anyway that I can change the argument in DllImport so that the correct dll will be invoked automagically, depending on the platform?

  Hello, i often work on private projects using the WinApi, and as you might know, it has thousands of named and typedefed structs like MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION. I will stick to this one in my question, what still is preferred, or better when you want to name a variable of this type. Is there some kind of style guide for this case? For example if i need that variable for the VirtualQueryEx function. Some ideas: MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION memoryBasicInformation; MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION memory_basic_information; Just use the name of the struct non captialized and with or without the underlines. MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION basicInformation; MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION information; Short form? MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION mbi; I often see this style, using the abbreviation of the struct name. MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION buffer; VirtualQueryEx defines the third parameter lpBuffer (where you pass the pointer to the struct), so using this name might be an idea, too. Cheers

  I am running JSF 2.0 and the latest version of Primefaces 2.2RC1 I believe. I am trying to create a printer friendly window. When the user clicks on a p:commandLink I want a new window to open and display a xhtml file I have named printView.xhtml. Now I can get the window working fine using JavaScript window.open but when I open the new window it will not render any values it just displays everything as #{myBean.value}. Does anyone know how to properly open a window and extend the current scope of the application into that window so I can call all of my managed beans properly and display the values etc. etc.

• Loading table sections when using headers

  I cant seem to wrap my head around this. I have googled, and overstacked for hours now looking for examples that i can relate to. What I have is two arrays. The name of my first NSMutableArray is "showDates". I have 3 objects in here. Object 0: "Today, May 20th" Object 1: "Tomorrow, May 21st" Object 2: "Saturday, May 22nd" Then I have my second NSMutableArray named "showTimes" I have about 15 objects in there with strings in each object. ( i hope that makes sense? ) Each object is structured like this: Object 0: showID @"98022" eventID @"833" showTime @"1:30pm" showDate @"Today, May 20th" auditorium @"9" venue @"2991" Object 1: showID @"98222" eventID @"813" showTime @"2:30pm" showDate @"Tomorrow, May 21st" auditorium @"9" venue @"2991" Etc, etc, .... I have the headers working great in my tableView, but I cant seem to figure out how to add the objects in my "showTimes" array under the correct header. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Problem showing selected value of combobox when it is bind to a List<T> using Linq to Entities

It is bind to it successfully but when i set the selected value of it from code at runtime to show the selected value coming from db it doesn't select it. For reference here is my combobox xaml.
