• Expanding the Partner Ecosystem with Third-Party Plug-ins

  Oracle Enterprise Manager’s extensibility capabilities are designed to allow customers and partners to adapt Enterprise Manager for management of heterogeneous environments with Plug-ins and Connectors.  Third-party developers continue to take advantage of Oracle Enterprise Manager’s Extensibility Development Kit (EDK) to build plug-ins to Enterprise Manager 12c, such as F5’s BIG IP Plug-in and Entuity’s Eye of the Storm Network Management Plug-In.  Partners can also validate their plug-ins through the Oracle Validated Integration (OVI) program, which assures customers that the plug-in has been tested and is functionally and technically sound, is designed in a reliable and standardized manner, and operates and performs as documented.   Two very recent examples of partners which have beta versions of their plug-ins are Blue Medora's VMware vSphere plug-in and the NetApp Storage plug-in.  VMware vSphere Plug-in by Blue Medora Blue Medora, an Oracle Partner Network (OPN) “Gold” member, which just announced that it is now signing up customers to try a beta version of their new VMware vSphere plug-in for Enterprise Manager 12c.  According to Blue Medora, the vSphere plug-in monitors critical VMware metrics (CPU, Memory, Disk, Network, etc) at the Host, VM, Cluster and Resource Pool levels.  It has minimal performance impact via an “agentless” approach that requires no installation directly on VMware servers.  It has discovery capabilities for VMware Datacenters, ESX Hosts, Clusters, Virtual Machines, and Datastores.  It offers integration of native VMware Events into Enterprise Manager, and it provides over 300 VMware-related health, availability, performance, and configuration metrics.  It comes with more than 30 out-of-the-box pre-defined thresholds and can manage VMware via a series of jobs split between cluster, host and VM target types.The company reports that the Enterprise Manager 12c plug-in supports vSphere versions 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0.  Platforms supported include Linux 64-bit, Windows, AIX and Solaris SPARC and x86.  Information about the plug-in, including how to sign up for the beta, is available at their web site at http://bluemedora.com after selecting the "Products" tab. NetApp Storage Plug-in NetApp believes the combination of storage system monitoring with comprehensive management of Oracle systems with Enterprise Manager will help customers reduce the cost and complexity of managing applications that rely on NetApp storage and Oracle technologies.  So, NetApp built a plug-in and reports that it has comprehensive availability and performance information for NetApp storage systems.  Using the plug-in, Oracle Enterprise Manager customers with NetApp storage solutions can track the association between databases and storage components and thereby respond to faults and IO performance bottlenecks quickly. With the latest configuration management capabilities, one can also perform drift analysis to make sure all storage systems are configured as per established gold standards. • Drawing lines in 3D space

  When attempting to draw a line in 3D space with D3DPT_LINELIST, then Direct3D gives me an error about an invalid vertex declaration, saying that it cannot be converted to an FVF. I am using the same vertex declaration and shader/stream setup as for my D3DPT_TRIANGLELIST rendering which works absolutely correctly. How can I use D3DPT_LINELIST to render some lines in 3D space? Edit: Oopsie, forgot my codeses. Here's my raw Draw call. • How can I get something like Nautilus's "spatial" behaviour in 11.10 and later?

  Until recently, Nautilus had an optional "spatial" mode as an alternative to its usual browser mode. Users could enable it by opening Nautilus's preferences and selecting "Open each folder in its own window." Choosing this option resulted in a stripped down interface, and folders would always open in the same place on the screen. It looked something like this: That checkbox is still there, but it doesn't do the same thing: while every folder opens in a new window, those windows are all the same size and positioned the same way. Nautilus doesn't restore the size and position of each folder, which is what spatial mode was all about. This difference really shows if someone opens a folder in a new window, and then opens the same folder again. Nautilus will create another window instead of focusing the existing window. I help someone who is currently using Ubuntu 10.04, and he will be upgrading to 12.04 in the future. He is very comfortable with Nautilus's spatial behaviour and I think he would be disappointed to lose it. Is there an alternative file manager, or perhaps some less obvious option, that will give him an interface similar to the one he is comfortable with?

• Why won't vyatta allow SMTP through my firewall?

  I am setting up a vyatta router on VMware ESXi, But I see to have hit a major snag, I could not get my firewall and NAT to work correctly. I am not sure what was wrong with NAT but it "seems" to be working now. But the firewall is not allowing traffic from my WAN interface (eth0) to my LAN (eth1). I can confirm its the firewall because I disabled all firewall rules and everything worked with just NAT. If put the firewalls (WAN and LAN) back in place nothing can get through to port 25. I am not really sure what the issue could be I am using pretty basic firewall rules, I wrote the rules while looking at the vyatta docs so unless there is something odd with the documentation they "should" be working. UPDATE Just to see if the firewall was working properly I made a rule to block SSH from the WAN interface. When I checked for port 22 on my primary WAN address it said it was still open even though I outright blocked the port. Here is the rule I used; rule 21 { action reject destination { address 74.219.80.163 port 22 } protocol tcp } So now I am convinced either I am doing something wrong or the firewall is not working like it should.

• Unexpected issues with SessionPageStatePersiste

  Several iterations ago I implemented the SessionPageStatePersister in an application as a way to cut down on the size of the hidden ViewState input on aspx pages.   At first it seemed utterly fantasic. The size of the ViewState appeared to be drastically reduced and the application did not appear to peform any slower than baseline.   Enter the iFrame &amp; user control. I added a user control which pings the web server every 20 seconds in order to show updated application information to the user (new messages, reports, etc.) After releasing this nifty little control into the QA environment I quickly began receiving emails from testers about "post back" related error messages which mostly centered around invalid ViewState exceptions.   At first I dismissed it as something related to all of the AJAX requests happening on the page and considered turning off page event validation. However, upon further investigation I came across the following article:   Things That You Should Watch Out For When Using SessionPageStatePersister   In this article the author specifically states:   If you application uses frames than each frame request will create a new session view state item and as before it will remove items when reaching the maximum, you come into a situation that one of the frames will probably loose it session view state because other frames did post backs.   Oh snap! That is precisely what I am doing. That combined with multiple users on the application equals dropped ViewStates!   The temporary fix has been to disable the use of the SessionPageStatePersister in my application. This results in a bloated hidden ViewState input, but the web server is no longer tasked with maintaing/retreiving it and the app. no longer loses ViewState information.

• GParted in UBUNTU shows entire disk as UNALLOCATED SPACE

  Good day to everyone. I hope someone can help me with my problem. I have a dual boot Windows and Ubuntu system. I recently encountered an hd0 out of disk error and wasn't able to boot Ubuntu. So I booted into Windows, after 2 to 3 times of booting and rebooting Windows, I tried booting Ubuntu but still I get the hd0 out of disk error. I decided to run Ubuntu from LIVEUSB to try to fix my Ubuntu partition using GParted, but when I run GParted, it shows my entire disk as UNALLOCATED SPACE! The strange thing is that Nautilus still shows and mounts my partitions. Also every time I boot into Windows , my partitions exists and I am able to read and write to them. I have no idea what is wrong. Please help! I can't stand using Windows since most of the tools I use are in Ubuntu. I don't mind reinstalling Ubuntu. In fact I already tried reinstalling using the LIVEUSB but I wasn't able to, since GParted or the Ubuntu installer itself does not recognized my partitions and shows the entire disk as unallocated space. I am currently running Ubuntu from LIVEUSB. The Dictionary Represents a collection of keys and values Dictionary<TKey, TValue> TKey : The type of the keys in the dictionary TValue : The type of the values in the dictionary. • Data Aggregation of CSV files java

  I have k csv files (5 csv files for example), each file has m fields which produce a key and n values. I need to produce a single csv file with aggregated data. I'm looking for the most efficient solution for this problem, speed mainly. I don't think by the way that we will have memory issues. Also I would like to know if hashing is really a good solution because we will have to use 64 bit hashing solution to reduce the chance for a collision to less than 1% (we are having around 30000000 rows per aggregation). For example file 1: f1,f2,f3,v1,v2,v3,v4 a1,b1,c1,50,60,70,80 a3,b2,c4,60,60,80,90 file 2: f1,f2,f3,v1,v2,v3,v4 a1,b1,c1,30,50,90,40 a3,b2,c4,30,70,50,90 result: f1,f2,f3,v1,v2,v3,v4 a1,b1,c1,80,110,160,120 a3,b2,c4,90,130,130,180 algorithm that we thought until now: hashing (using concurentHashTable) merge sorting the files DB: using mysql or hadoop or redis. The solution needs to be able to handle Huge amount of data (each file more than two million rows) a better example: file 1 country,city,peopleNum england,london,1000000 england,coventry,500000 file 2: country,city,peopleNum england,london,500000 england,coventry,500000 england,manchester,500000 merged file: country,city,peopleNum england,london,1500000 england,coventry,1000000 england,manchester,500000 The key is: country,city. This is just an example, my real key is of size 6 and the data columns are of size 8 - total of 14 columns. We would like that the solution will be the fastest in regard of data processing.

• Volume group disappeared, LVs still available

  I've run into an issue with my KVM host which runs VMs on a LVM volume. As of last night the logical volumes are no longer seen as such (I can't create snapshots of them even though I have been for months now). • how can I fix error: hd0 out of disk?

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 on a netbook - Acer AS 1410. After a download session, I restarted the computer and it said: error: hd0 out of disk. Press any key to continue... I pressed everything, but it's just frozen there. Any idea what's wrong with it and what I can do to fix it? I haven't been able to run my computer at all since it's frozen like that. Help please! • How to align text at the top left-hand corner?

  I'd like to use stylesheet instead of hard-coding HTML so that text within cells are aligned vertically, ie. text starts at the upper left-hand corner. • Throughput = BS * IOPS?

  I've seen in many places that throughput = bs * iops should be true. For example writing at 128k block size to a SAS disk that can support 190 IOPS should give a throughput of ~23 MBps - 23.75(MBs) = 128(BS)*190(SAS-15 IOPS)/1024. Now when I tested it in a VM against a monster NetApp filer I got theses results: # dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/dd.out bs=4k count=2097152 8589934592 bytes (8.6 GB) copied, 61.5996 seconds, 139 MB/s To view the IO rate of the VM I used iostat and esxtop, and they both showed around 250 IOPS. So to my understanding the throughput was supposed to be ~1000k: 1000(KBs) = 4(BS)*250(IOPS). dd of 8GB is twice the size of RAM of course, so no page caching here. What am I missing? Thanks!

• rEFIt can't sync GPT and MBR after resizing boot camp partition

  I've been trying to follow the instructions here to increase the size of my boot camp partition: http://plonsdale.wordpress.com/2011/06/24/tech-tip-increasing-the-size-of-a-bootcamp-partition-with-free-tools/ I got as far as step 3 when I booted from the rEFIt CD. I selected the partitioning tool and it gave me the following message: Error: Not Found returned from gptsync.efi Now the Windows boot camp partition doesn't show up when I hold alt when starting my mac. Trying to boot into Windows using the rEFIt CD gives me a message saying no Windows installation is found. I then booted off the Windows 7 install CD and the 'repair' option gave me this message: This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows ...and if I try and go install a fresh version of Windows on this partition using the 'Custom (advanced)' option I get an error about the partition saying: Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style

• What DX level does my graphics card support? Does it go to 11?

  Recently I run into a situation that I have run into quite a few times. Someone encounters a machine and the question arises: "Is there a DirectX 11 card in this machine?". Typically the reason you are interested in that is because cards with DirectX 11 drivers fully support DirectCompute (and by extension C++ AMP) for GPGPU programming. The driver specifically is WDDM (1.1 on Windows 7 and Windows 8 introduces WDDM 1.2 with cool new capabilities). There are many ways for figuring out if you have a DirectX11 card, so here are the approaches that you can use, with a bonus right at the end of the post. Run DxDiag WindowsKey + R, type DxDiag and hit Enter. That is the DirectX diagnostic tool, which unfortunately, only tells you on the "System" tab what is the highest version of DirectX installed on your machine. So if it reports DirectX 11, that doesn't mean you have a DX11 driver! The "Display" tab has a promising "DDI version" label, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be accurate on the machines I've tested it with (or I may be misinterpreting its use). Either way, this tool is not the one you want for this purpose, although it is good for telling you the WDDM version among other things. Use the Microsoft hardware page There is a Microsoft Windows 7 compatibility center, that lists all hardware (tip: use the advanced search) and you could try and locate your device there… good luck. Use Wikipedia or the hardware vendor's website Use the Wikipedia page for the vendor cards, for both nvidia and amd. Often this information will also be in the specifications for the cards on the IHV site, but is is nice that wikipedia has a single page per vendor that you can search etc. There is a column in the tables for API support where you can see the DirectX version. Check if it is one of these recommended DX11 cards You may not have a DirectX 11 card and are interested in purchasing one. While I am in no position to make recommendations, I will list here some cards from two big IHVs that we know are DirectX 11 capable. Some AMD (aka ATI) cards Low end, inexpensive DX11 hardware: Radeon 5450, 5550, 6450, 6570 Mid range (decent perf, single precision): Radeon 5750, 5770, 6770, 6790 High end (capable of double precision): Radeon 5850, 5870, 6950, 6970 Single precision APUs: AMD E-Series APUs AMD A-Series APUs Some NVIDIA cards Low end, inexpensive DX11 hardware: GeForce GT430, GT 440, GT520, GTS 450 Quadro 400, 600 Mid-range (decent perf, single precision): GeForce GTX 460, GTX 550 Ti, GTX 560, GTX 560 Ti Quadro 2000 High end (capable of double precision): GeForce GTX 480, GTX 570, GTX 580, GTX 590, GTX 595 Quadro 4000, 5000, 6000 Tesla C2050, C2070, C2075 Get the DirectX SDK and run DirectX Caps Viewer Download and install the June 2010 DirectX SDK. As part of that you now have the DirectX Capabilities Viewer utility (find it in your start menu by searching for "DirectX Caps Viewer", the filename is DXCapsViewer.exe). It will list all your devices (emulated, and real hardware ones) under the first node. Expand the hardware entries and then expand again the Direct3D 11 folder. If you see D3D_FEATURE_LEVEL_11_ under that, then your card supports feature level 11 which means it supports DirectCompute and C++ AMP. In the following screenshot of one of my old laptops, the card only goes to feature level 10. Run a utility from the web that just tells you! Of course, writing some C++ AMP code that enumerates accelerators and lists the ones that are capable is trivial. However that requires that you have redistributed the runtime, so a more broadly applicable approach is to use the DX APIs directly to enumerate the DX11 capable cards. OS on my PC is Win x64,  so I “charge” devenv.exe by using editbin.exe utility – in the VS Command prompt I run following: editbin "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /LARGEADDRESSAWARE This command edits the image to indicate that the application can handle addresses larger than 2 gigabytes. After that FBX file successfully built! Of course, you must put proper path to devenv.exe, depend on your installation path. If you are on Win x86, you need to do additional action – more info here.   P.S.: although now you can build a bigger files, than usual, keep in mind, that XNA have some restrictions on vertex buffer size etc., depend on your current XNA project profile (Reach or HiDef). And if your model’s vertexbuffer size more than 64Mb (with Reach profile), that model can’t be built and raise an error.

Jake Sabulsky started off by explaining that you should be concentrating on the core functionality of your app and letting the framework take care of the features that users require these days.  This is implemented be leveraging contracts.  When Windows 8 was released it included the File, Share and Pickers contracts.  With the release of Windows 8.1 they have added the Contacts and Calendar contracts. There have been a number of improvements to the original contracts. The File URI contract will now automatically detect the size that a new windows should be opened and will also allow you to programmatically influence new window size.  The Share contract has been enhanced by allowing apps to always share screenshots and links to the app in the store. • Rendering Text with the HTML5 Canvas

  In a previous post I walked through the fundamentals of rendering shapes such as squares and circles using the HTML5 Canvas API. In this post I’ll provide a simple example of rendering and rotating text. To render text you can use the fillText() or strokeText() functions which take the text to render as well as the x and y coordinates of where to render it. To rotate text you can use the transform functions available with the HTML5 Canvas such as save(), rotate(), and restore(). To run the live demos that follow click the Result tab in the blue bar of each demo.   Rendering Text This example provides a simple look at how text can be rendered using the HTML5 Canvas. It iterates through a loop, updates the text and font size dynamically, measures the width of the text using the measureText() function, and then calls fillText() to render the text with the desired font size to the screen.   Here’s what the code above renders:   Rotating Text This example shows how text can be rendered and even rotated by using transform functions built into the HTML5 Canvas. The code starts by rendering text the standard way using fillText(). It then saves the state of the canvas performs an x,y coordinate transform (moves to 100, 300 respectively) and then rotates the canvas –90 degrees using the rotate() function. After the text is rendered, the canvas is reverted back to it’s existing state (saved by calling the save() function) by calling the restore() function.
