• Submitting a sitemap to take care of inherited Google crawler errors

  I have an awful lot of Google Crawler errors (1000 or so) after I inherited a site that the previous owner migrated without moving much of their content. Would generating a map of the current site and submitting it to Google help fix this? Is there any quicker, automated way to eliminate errors other than clicking each and every site error? Note: I have already tried automating this on my own.

• Migrating from a wordpress.com to wordpress.org blog without harming SEO

  I've had a Wordpress.com weblog for 3 years. And its pages have a good pagerank and are shown in first search results pages. Because of the limitations, I should migrate to my own WordPress. How to migrate safely with the minimum SEO problems? (I know how to export content in wordpress.com and import it to a new wordpress.org blog.) Note 1: links structure and site design are different on the new wordpress blog. (I don't like wordpress.com links structure :| ) Note 2: as you know, it's not possible to edit .htaccess file on wordpress.com. so I can't use 301 redirects.

• ODTUG is Looking for your ADF Feedback

• yet another question about migrating to Java

  Hi, There are plenty similar questions, but maybe responses to this one will save a developer's life :) I want to migrate to Java. The reasons are very clear: all the .NET vacancies are client and windows oriented (Silverlight developer, ASP.NET developer, WPF developer etc.) and none of them are any interest to me. I worked with .NET since it's beginning as our company decided to invest in .NET having C++ stack and all the natual problems, so I was just blindly following and actually enjoyed it as the products were mostly server oriented with mixed C++/C# code. Today I have beforementioned problem - can't find an inspiring job. I'd rather kill myself than start working on a Silverlight or WPF project. Searching Java vacancies shows promising results, however they all require a huge java-related technology stack and experience. The question is is there any chance to find a job quickly and without dramatic salary drop (I know that Java guys are usually better paid, so there must be a kind of a credit) and if not, how must time and effort does it take to migrate (my .NET knowledge mostly includes server-oriented technologies like NHibernate, WCF, threading, sockets, ASP.NET web services, Enterprise Library, NInject etc etc etc, and (still) some C++ leftovers). • How to interpret number of URL errors in Google webmaster tools

  Recently Google has made some changes to Webmaster tools which are explained below: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2012/03/crawl-errors-next-generation.html One thing I could not find out is how to interpret the number of errors over time. At the end of February we've recently migrated our website and didn't implement redirect rules for some pages (quite a few actually). Here is what we're getting from the Crawl errors: What I don't know is if the number of errors is cumulative over time or not (i.e. if Google bots crawl your website on 2 different days and find 1 separate issue on each day, whether they will report 1 error for each day, or 1 for the 1st, and 2 for the 2nd). Based on the Crawl stats we can see that the number of requests made by Google bots doesn't increase: Therefore I believe the number of errors reported is cumulative and that an error detected on 1 day is taken into account and reported on the subsequent days until the underlying problem is fixed and the page it's crawled again (or if you manually Mark as fixed the error) because if you don't make more requests to a website, there is no way you can check new pages and old pages at the same time. Q: Am I interpreting the number of errors correctly?

Question :Are there any extensive compatibility issues, forward or backward? Question :Does your project stick to a particular version till the end ? Question :Does the programming style ,approach change from version to version? Question :If you had to get started on PHP to contribute to a project built earlier versions, would learning the latest version be counterproductive towards this aim?   Diariamente estamos em contato com diversas tecnologias, muitas delas complementares ou realizam tarefas muito semelhantes como o caso dos tablets X smartphones. Não podemos negar o quanto estas tecnologias passaram a fazer parte do hábito diário universalmente, alterando o padrão como consumimos informação, e até mesmo como utilizamos ou utilizávamos o computador.Basicamente existem 2 tipos de inovação:1 – incremental – que ocorre de acordo com as melhorias, ajustas, releituras e evolução de um produto. Este tipo de inovação podemos ver em automóveis, que seguem o mesmo princípio, porém quando comparamos um automóvel atual com um fabricado a 20 anos atrás, podemos perceber as inovações incrementais que alteraram o produto.2 – disruptiva – este tipo de inovação geralmente causar um novo momento, é até uma alteração do hábito de uso dos produtos. Foi o caso da revolução industrial, que automatizou processos de produção, ou da câmera digital que alterou a forma como habitualmente fotos eram tiradas e reveladas.Dentro deste processo existe uma curva de adoção tecnológica, esta curva foi criada americano Everett M. Rogers, PHd em sociologia e estatística.Em seu livro “The diffusion of inovations” (1962) – em português – A difusão das inovações, Rogers apresenta após diversas análises e estudos a curva de adoção tecnológica, Roger´s é o criador do termo Early Adopters muito utilizado nos dias de hoje.Abaixo podemos entender a curva de adoção:2,5% da população são os Innovators/Inovadores – eles possuem acesso á qualquer inovação antes de todos, por questões sociais, influência, conhecimento. São as pessoas que tem acesso a inovação antes que ela esteja disponível no mercado. 13,50 % são os Early Adopters, pessoas e empresa que por uma questão comportamental buscam ter as inovações assim que são lançadas, frente a isso existe uma série de vantagens e desvantagens. Estar à frente do mercado muitas vezes significa utilizar coisas que o mercado ainda não utiliza, por isso este comportamento pode colocar muitas empresas a frente de seus concorrentes mais tradicionais. Há também o risco da inovação não ser 100% aceita, ou passar por algum processo de ajuste, mas certamente os early adopters conseguem explanar melhor sobra visão de futuro.34% são os Early Majority, nesta fase da adoção muitas pessoas/empresas são influenciadas pelos early adopters, bem como inicia-se uma clico “natural” de busca por inovação. 34% são os late majority, ou seja empresas/pessoas que esperam que todos utilizem e adotam quase na última onda.Ao final temos 16% os laggards – retardatários, empresas e pessoas que só adotam inovações porque não possuem mais saída frente as alterações causadas, e precisam de alguma forma sobreviver frente as mudanças.Frente a este cenário onde você este inserido? • User Produtivity Kit - Powerful Packages (Part 1)

  User Productivity Kit provides the ability to create a variety of content types including robust topics on system process and web pages with formatted text and graphics. There are times when you want to enhance content with media types not naively created by User Productivity Kit, media types such as video, custom animations, forms, and more. One method of doing this is to maintain these media files on a web server - separate from the User Productivity Kit player content and link to the files using absolute URLs such as http://myserver/overview.html. While this will get you going, you won't benefit from the content management capabilities of the UPK Developer. Features such as check-in / check-out, history, document properties, folder permissions and more are not available to this external content. Further, if you ever need to move that content to a server with a different name or domain, you'd need to update all your links. UPK version 3.1 introduced a new document type - the package. A package is a group of folders and files that you manage in the Developer library as a single document. These package documents work in the same manner as any other document in the library and you can use all of the collaborative content development features you see with other document types. Packages can be used for anything from single Word documents, PDF files, and graphics to more intricate sets of inter-related files commonly seen with HTML files and their graphics, style sheets, and JavaScript files. The structure of the files and folders within a package will always be preserved so this means that any relative links between files in the package will work. For example, an HTML file containing an image tag with a relative link to a graphic elsewhere in the same package will continue to function properly both when viewed in the Developer and when published to outputs such as the UPK Player. Once you start to use packages, you'll soon discover that there is a lot of existing content that can be re-purposed by placing it into UPK packages. Packages are easily created by selecting File...New...Package. Files can be added in a number of ways including the "Add Files" button, copy & paste from Windows Explorer, and drag & drop. To use one of the files in the package, just create a link to the file in the package you want to target. This is supported throughout the Developer in places such as section & topic concepts, frame links and hyperlinks in web pages. A little more challenging is determining how to structure packages in your library. As I mentioned earlier, a package can contain anything from a single file to dozens of files and folders. So what should you do? You could create a package for each file. You could create one package for all your files. But which one is right? Well, there's not a right and wrong answer to this question. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. The right decision will be influenced by the package files themselves, the structure of the content in the library, the size and working style of the development team, how content is shared between different outlines and more. The first consideration can be assessed the quickest. If the content to be placed in the package is composed of multiple files and those files reference each other, they should be in the same package. There are loads of examples of this type of content. HTML files with graphics and style sheets, HTML files with embedded Flash movies, and Word documents saved as HTML are all examples where the content is composed of multiple files and the files reference each other in some way. Content like this should always be placed in a singe package such that these relative links between the files are preserved and play properly in the UPK Player. In upcoming posts, I'll explain additional considerations.

• Fixing Broken Links to Entries on This Blog

  I just found out that some built in redirects that were in place on the Oracle Blogging platform were removed, and as a result there is a good chance that if you were directed to an entry on this blog that is a bit older you'll get a 404 error. Luckily there is a simple URL hack that you can use to fix this - switch the "year/month" part for "entry" and then remove the ".html" from the URL. So for example instead of :  https://blogs.oracle.com/shay/2010/10/passing_parameters_to_adf_appl.html use: https://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/passing_parameters_to_adf_appl I fixed the links on my "Archives" page so you can also look for the entry by title there. Sorry for any inconvenience.

• What tools should I consider if my aim is to make a game available to as many platforms as possible?

  We're planning on developing a 2D, grid-based puzzle game, and although it's still very early in the planning stages, we'd like to make our decisions well from the beginning. Our strategy will be to make the game available to as many platforms as possible, for example PCs (Windows, Mac and/or Linux), mobile phones (iPhone and/or Android based phones), game consoles (XBLA and/or PSN) PC will have an emphasis, but I believe that's the most flexible platform so that shouldn't be a problem. So, what programming language, game engine, frameworks and all around tools would be best suited for our goal? P.S.: I'm betting a set of tools won't cover ALL of them, and that there will still be some kind of "translating" effort for some platforms, but we'd like to know what the most far reaching are.

• Parallel Installation of Ubuntu, Wubi and Windows 7?

  I have Windows 7 installed on a Notebook. Because I wanted to experiment with Ubutnu without loosing my Windows 7 configuration I installed the Wubi Version of Ubuntu inside of Windows 7. Since things seam to work out well with Ubuntu and my harddisk space is very limited, I want to make Ubuntu my only operating system on this machine. So my question is: Is it possible, to install Ubuntu 11.04 additionally to my actual configuration (Wubi and Windows 7)? And if things turned out well with the native installation of Ubuntu, too, to delete Wubi and Windows 7 from my system afterwards? Why I am asking this is simply, that I am afraid, that if I just format my machine and made the whole harddisk available for the fresh Ubuntu installation, it could be possible, that it turns out, that one thing or an other would not work properly, like it did in Wubi. (Possible Network, VPN, and Firewall@work issues) In this case I'd like the possibility to switch back.

• JavaOne Latin America Opening Keynotes

  Originally published on blogs.oracle.com/javaone It was a great first day at JavaOne Brazil, which included the Java Strategy and Java Technical keynotes. Henrik Stahl, Senior Director, Product Management for Java opened the keynotes by saying that this is the third year for JavaOne Latin America. He explained, "You know what they say, the first time doesn't count, the second time is a habit and the third time it's a tradition!" He mentioned that he was thrilled that this is largest JavaOne in Brazil to date, and he wants next year to be larger. He said that Oracle knows Latin America is an important hub for development.  "We continually come back to Latin America because of the dedication the community has with driving the continued innovation for Java," he said. Stahl explained that Oracle and the Java community must continue to innovate and Make the Future Java together. The success of Java depends on three important factors: technological innovation, Oracle as a strong steward of Java, and community participation. "The Latin American Java Community (especially in Brazil) is a shining example of how to be positive contributor to Java," Stahl said. Next, George Saab, VP software dev, Java Platform Group at Oracle, discussed some of the recent and upcoming changes to Java. "In addition to the incremental improvements to Java 7, we have also increased the set of platforms supported by Oracle from Linux, Windows, and Solaris to now also include Mac OS X and Linux/ARM for ARM-based PCs such as the Raspberry Pi and emerging ARM based microservers."  Saab announced that EA builds for Linux ARM Hard Float ABI will be available by the end of the year.  Staffan Friberg, Product Manager, Java Platform Group, provided an overview of some of the language coming in Java 8, including Lambda, remove of PermGen, improved data and time APIs and improved security, Java 8 development is moving along. He reminded the audience that they can go to OpenJDK to see this development being done in real-time, and that there are weekly early access builds of OracleJDK 8 that developers can download and try today. Judson Althoff, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Alliances and Channels and Embedded Sales, was invited to the stage, and the audience was told that "even though he is wearing a suit, he is still pretty technical." Althoff started off with a bang: "The Internet of Things is on a collision course with big data and this is a huge opportunity for developers."  For example, Althoff said, today cars are more a data device than a mechanical device. A car embedded with sensors for fuel efficiency, temperature, tire pressure, etc. can generate a petabyte of data A DAY. There are similar examples in healthcare (patient monitoring and privacy requirements creates a complex data problem) and transportation management (sending a package around the world with sensors for humidity, temperature and light). Althoff then brought on stage representatives from three companies that are successful with Java today, first Axel Hansmann, VP Strategy & Marketing Communications, Cinterion. Mr. Hansmann explained that Cinterion, a market leader in Latin America, enables M2M services with Java. At JavaOne San Francisco, Cinterion launched the EHS5, the smallest 3g solderable module, with Java installed on it. This provides Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) with a cost effective, flexible platform for bringing advanced M2M technology to market.Next, Steve Nelson, Director of Marketing for the Americas, at Freescale explained that Freescale is #1 in Embedded Processors in Wired and Wireless Communications, and #1 in Automotive Semiconductors in the Americas. He said that Java provides a mature, proven platform that is uniquely suited to meet the requirements of almost any type of embedded device. He encouraged University students to get involved in the Freescale Cup, a global competition where student teams build, program, and race a model car around a track for speed.Roberto Franco, SBTVD Forum President, SBTVD, talked about Ginga, a Java-based standard for television in Brazil. He said there are 4 million Ginga TV sets in Brazil, and they expect over 20 million TV sets to be sold by the end of 2014. Ginga is also being adopted in other 11 countries in Latin America. Ginga brings interactive services not only at TV set, but also on other devices such as tablets,  PCs or smartphones, as the main or second screen. "Interactive services is already a reality," he said, ' but in a near future, we foresee interactivity enhanced TV content, convergence with OTT services and a big participation from the audience,  all integrated on TV, tablets, smartphones and second screen devices."Before he left the stage, Nandini Ramani thanked Judson for being part of the Java community and invited him to the next Geek Bike Ride in Brazil. She presented him an official geek bike ride jersey.For the Technical Keynote, a "blue screen of death" appeared. With mock concern, Stephin Chin asked the rest of the presenters if they could go on without slides. What followed was a interesting collection of demos, including JavaFX on a tablet, a look at Project Easel in NetBeans, and even Simon Ritter controlling legos with his brainwaves! • Microsoft launches two new Data Centres for Azure in US to meet growing demand

  In order to meet the growing demand for Windows Azure in US, Microsoft has launched two new data centres in US – East US and West US. With the addition of these two data centres the number of Azure data centres across the globe has grown to 8 and 4 among them are located in US. The two new data centres are providing Computer and Storage resources and few enthusiastic customers already deployed their applications. The other services like SQL Azure and AppFabric will be offered by these data centres in the coming months. The addition of new data centres is a good sign to Microsoft as the customer demand for their Cloud offering is growing.   Pleased to announce that the Oracle Usability Advisory Board has added a globalization workgroup for 2011. This will be headed up my myself. The aims of this workgroup are: To understand how our customers use translated versions of applications To identify key international support, translation and localization-related usability issues in deployed applications To make recommendations to Oracle usability and development teams about meeting global customer usability requirements in current and future versions of our applications. Issues include: How international users use applications when working, ethnography opportunities, key cultural impacts on usability; multilingual feature usage, localization of forms and reports, language quality, extensibility, translation of user assistance, user-generated and rich-media content like UPK, and international mobile application opportunities.
