• can't access SAMBA shares on UBUNTU-server from other computers

The server is connected by LAN. On one computer running windows XP I can see the server but are not allowed to acces them. On another computer on the WIFI-net running win7 I cannot see the server at all but I can ping the server and I can see the smb-protocoll is running when sniffing with wireshark. I don't primarily want to use passwords, computers on the lan and wifi should be able to connect without any login-procedure. I'm sure my config is not sufficient but have hard to understand how I should do. Theres a lot of descriptions on the net but most is old and none have been of any help. I'm also confused by the fact that I can not se the sever on my win7-machine even though it communicates with the samba-server. Would be very happy if anyone could spread some light over this mess.

In Outlook you will see the documents as outlook email items with the ability to preview them. When a document is updated, Outlook will notify you that you have items unread. If you want to edit a file, the corresponding office tool (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) will ask if you want to update the server after saving a change, it is really straightforward. • What packages are neccessary to have sound output from java applets?

  I've got a very minimalistic setup of ubuntu precise, created using debootstrap. So please don't assume that any packages are installed just because they usually are. On that system, I'd like to play some sounds from a java applet. However, this always fails with the following error message: javax.sound.midi.MidiUnavailableException: Can not open line at com.sun.media.sound.SoftSynthesizer.open(SoftSynthesizer.java:1132) at com.sun.media.sound.SoftSynthesizer.open(SoftSynthesizer.java:1036) ... Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: No line matching interface SourceDataLine supporting format PCM_SIGNED 44100.0 Hz, 16 bit, stereo, 4 bytes/frame, little-endian is supported. at javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.getLine(AudioSystem.java:476) at javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.getSourceDataLine(AudioSystem.java:604) at com.sun.media.sound.SoftSynthesizer.open(SoftSynthesizer.java:1066) ... 35 more As the messages mention a soft synthesizer, and pcm lines, I expect that the lack of some midi daemon is not the issue here. As far as I can tell, the alsa kernel modules are loaded, including snd_hda_intel, snd_pcm, snd_seq_midi among others. I've also included the alsa-base and alsa-utils packages in my installation. alsa-mixer looks good, using “HDA Intel PCH” as its default device. What other packages, configuration settings or daemon startups does java require to make its sound output work?

• The Endeca UI Design Pattern Library Returns

  I'm happy to announce that the Endeca UI Design Pattern Library - now titled the Endeca Discovery Pattern Library - is once again providing guidance and good practices on the design of discovery experiences.  Launched publicly in 2010 following several years of internal development and usage, the Endeca Pattern Library is a unique and valued source of industry-leading perspective on discovery - something I've come to appreciate directly through  fielding the consistent stream of inquiries about the library's status, and requests for its rapid return to public availability. Restoring the library as a public resource is only the first step!  For the next stage of the library's evolution, we plan to increase the scope of the guidance it offers beyond user interface design to the broader topic of discovery.  This could include patterns for architecture at the systems, user experience, and business levels; information and process models; analytical method and activity patterns for conducting discovery; and organizational and resource patterns for provisioning discovery capability in different settings.  We'd like guidance from the community on the kinds of patterns that are most valuable - so make sure to let us know. And we're also considering ways to increase the number of patterns the library offers, possibly by expanding the set of contributors and the authoring mechanisms. • Ubuntu 12.04 connected to wireless network but internet not working

  I can connect to my house's wireless network just fine, but when I'm connected I can't browse the web. Firefox starts connecting to a site and then just poops out. This doesn't happen on my roommates' computers (running Windows) or on our 3DSes, so I know it's just my laptop. • Setting up VPS: How to configure name servers

  So I got a VPS set up (LAMP) and have transfered a couple of sites over. Now I want to point my domain names from the old host to the new VPS host, which does not have any name servers yet. On my registrars console I have set the domain name 'www.mydomain.com' domain host settings to point to my VPS's ip address, eg: ns1.mydomain.com = 111.222.3.4 and ns2.mydomain.com = 111.222.3.4 I then lowered the TTL to one hour. I then switched the Nameservers on that domain to these new ones. (ns1/2.mydomain.com) In WHM I then set the servers name servers to ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com. I waited an hour to test...but nothing changed - the domain name still directed to the old host. Have I missed something? Is the some other record I need to change on the DNS? I find this very confusing, does anyone know a resource or can provide a step by step guide on how to configure a new servers nameservers? Thanks EDIT: added image (sorry bout the censoring.   In trusty 14.04 containers fail to autoboot despite all settings being set as 14.04 requires. They show all as STOPPED I have correctly configured 2 LXC containers: calypso encelado They run perfectly if I run sudo lxc-autostart then sudo lxc-ls --fancy results in: ubuntu@saturn:/etc/init$ sudo lxc-ls --fancy NAME STATE IPV4 IPV6 AUTOSTART calypso RUNNING 192.168.1.161 - YES encelado RUNNING 192.168.1.162 - YES The problem is trying to run them at boot. • Read-only lock on a SharePoint site collection, or Why can't I edit anymore?

  Monday morning, the calls started.  For some reason, long-time users were unable to edit list items.  I figured we had a permissions issue, so I popped in to look at the Site Settings -- and found that I couldn't.  A quick trip to Central Administration showed that I was still listed as a Site Collection Administrator, but I had no power at all on the site collection in question.A quick glance at the logs told me that the server had recently shut down unexpectedly (this is a Hyper-V virtual machine).  Apparently, in the confusion, somehow SharePoint decided to lock the site collection as Read Only.  This can be remedied in one of two ways:1)  In Central Administration, go to Application Management->SharePoint Site Management->Site collection quotas and locks.  Once you have arrived, select the correct application and site collection, and you will have the opportunity to view and set the lock status of the collection (it most likely will be set to "Read-only", and you'll want to move that radio button to "Not locked").2)  Fire up stsadm and issue the following command:stsadm -o setsitelock -url http://myportalsitecollection -lock none

• Diablo 3 "freezes" periodically

  I'm running Diablo 3 (start edition, digital download) on the following: Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit (stock Unity, Gnome, etc; kernel version 3.2.0-29-generic) Wine version 1.5.11 (base, from Wine's PPA, game started with setarch i386 -3) Intel i7 920 CPU nVidia GTX260 with driver version 295.49 ("post-release updates" entry within the proprietary drivers tool), dual monitors 6GB RAM Every so often (and what appears to be at random), the game video will freeze up. I can still move the mouse, and it reacts to ctrl+alt+f2 to drop into text mode, but I can't get back to the desktop (which means I can check terminal to see what's going on after launching from terminal, especially since even in windowed mode, the secondary screen gets shut off by the game), and I can't continue to play the game. In order to get it running again, I have to restart lightdm, then relaunch the game (or, in a couple of rare cases, I had to restart the computer entirely, because running sudo service lightdmn [stop/start] doesn't appear to react). Turning down the video settings seems to have helped in some cases, but not all of them. Additionally, this doesn't happen on other games I play and seems to only occur with Diablo 3. Has anyone else run into this issue and know a possible cause or fix, or at least know where I can look (and what to look for) to figure out why this is happening?

• Unity throws SynchronizationLockException while debugging

  I've found Unity to be a great resource for writing unit-testable code, and tests targeting it. Sadly, not all those unit tests work perfectly the first time (TDD notwithstanding), and sometimes it's not even immediately apparent why they're failing. So I use Visual Studio's debugger. I then see SynchronizationLockExceptions thrown by Unity calls, when I never did while running the code without debugging. I hit F5 to continue past these distractions, the line that had the exception appears to have completed normally, and I continue on to what I was trying to debug in the first place.In settings where Unity isn't used extensively, this is just one amongst a handful of annoyances in a tool (Visual Studio) that overall makes my work life much, much easier and more enjoyable. But in larger projects, it can be maddening. Finally it bugged me enough where it was worth researching it.Amongst the first and most helpful Google results was, of course, at Stack Overflow. The first couple answers were extensive but seemed a bit more involved than I could pull off at this stage in the product's lifecycle. A bit more digging showed that the Microsoft team knows about this bug but hasn't prioritized it into any released build yet. SO users jaster and alex-g proposed workarounds that relieved my pain--just go to Debug|Exceptions..., find the SynchronizationLockException, and uncheck it. As others warned, this will skip over SynchronizationLockExceptions in your code that you want to catch, but that wasn't a concern for me in this case. Thanks, guys; I've used that dialog before, but it's been so long I'd forgotten about it.Now if I could just do the same for Microsoft.CSharp.RuntimeBinder.RuntimeBinderException... Until then, F5 it is.

• Android&ndash;Finding your SDK debug certificate MD5 fingerprint using Keytool

  I recently upgraded to a new development machine, which means the certificate used to sign my applications during debug changed. Under most circumstances you’ll never notice a difference, but if you’re developing apps using Google’s Maps API you’ll find that your old API key no longer works with the new certificate fingerprint. Google's instructions walk you through retrieving the MD5 fingerprint of your SDK debug certificate - the certificate that you’re probably signing your apps with before publishing, but it doesn't talk much about the Keytool command. The thing to remember is that Keytool is part of Java, not the Android SDK, so you'll never find it searching through your Android and Eclipse directories. Mine is located in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_02\bin so you should find yours somewhere similar. From a command prompt, navigate to this directory and type: keytool -v -list -keystore "C:/Documents and Settings/<user name>/.android/debug.keystore" That’s assuming the path to your debug certificate is in the typical location. If this doesn’t work, you can find out where it’s located in Eclipse by clicking Window –> Preferences –> Android –> Build. There's no need to use the additional commands shown on Google's page. You'll be prompted for a password, just hit enter. The last line shown, Certificate fingerprint, is the key you'll give Google to generate your new Maps API key. Technorati Tags: Android Mapping

• apt-get doesnt download files from NFS location

  I have switched to unix from last 3 months and trying to understand install process and in particular apt-get. I am able to successfully install and download the packages when I configure my repository on http location in /etc/apt/sources.list file. e.g. deb http://web.myspqce.com/u/eng/rose/debian-mirror-squeeze-amd64/mirror/ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free This command will download(/var/cache/apt/archive) and install the package when i use apt-get install When I change the source location to file instead of http(nfs mount point), the package is getting installed but NOT getting downloaded in /var/cache/apt/archive. deb file:/deb_repository/debian-mirror-squeeze-amd64/mirror/ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free Please let me know if there is any configuration or settings that i have to make to let apt-get to both download and install package when i use (nfs)file:/ instead of http:/ in sources.list. To achieve this, I can use apt-get --downlaod-only and then use apt-get install for both download and install in two separate calls, but I want to know why package is not getting downloaded with apt-get install but only getting installed when used with file:/ in sources.list

  It's been well over six months but I have the same router SmartAX MT880d with Ethernet, and the exact same problem : no internet, even though I can successfully reach the modem settings page by entering 192.168.1.1 in Firefox. I'm a total beginner with Ubuntu. My internet works great in Windows but does not work in Ubuntu. Sorry if I don't use the right (technical) terminology to explain my issue. English is not my mother tongue. For 2 weeks, I've been doing reading on the web and forums and the ubuntuguide.org to name a few, but to no avail. Now I see no other solution but to ask for help. My problem is that I can't find a way to put the right digits in the right place because I don't know what numbers I need to put in what files. E.g.: do I need to use DHCP? or a static IP address? No clue whatsoever. I'm concerned that I might put figures in the wrong spaces. For example, is the modem/router's IP exactly 192.168.1.1 for Huawei Smart AXMT880d modem? Is the subnet 255.255.255.0? Gateway 192.168.1.1? I'm confused as I can also see a different IP starting with 155131*** (is it an account number?) on my contract with Huawei (a Chinese ISP). Apart from calling 911, what other numbers do I need to put in and where? How do I check that all the numbers have been entered correctly in every appropriate space before trying to connect the Internet?

  Is there any way to kill a zombie process without reboot?Here is how it happens: I wanted to download a 12GB torrent.After adding the .torrent file, transmission turned into a zombie process.I tried ktorrent too.Same behavior.Finally I could download the file using µTorrent but after closing the program, it turns into a zombie as well. I tried using kill skill and pkill with different options and -9 signal but no success. In some answers in web I found out killing the parent can kill the zombie, but killing wine didn't help either. Is there another way?   I am currently using ubuntu 12.04 I have acer aspire timelinex 3830tg with 2GB nvidia GeForce GT540M graphics card To enable my graphics card I followed following steps. 1.) I activated nvidia_current and nvidia_current_updates from additional drivers 2.) sudo nvidia-xconfig 3.) then reboot Following these steps I got following errors 1.) my resolution is 640x480...(there is no option of 1366x768 in display...previously there was 1366x768 when nvidia-xconfig command was not entered) 2.) when I open nvidia-settings it shows me following error "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run 'nvidia-xconfig' as root) and restart the X server." Problem need to be solved 1.) Change resolution to 1366x768 2.) Also how to check my nvidia graphics working or not Please some one please help me to solve these issues...I am seriously in need of my graphics card...   I have seen many Sharepoint Newbies cracking their head to create a Console/Windows  application in VS2010 and make it talk to Sharepoint 2010 Server. I had the same problem when i started with Sharepoint in the begining. It is important for you to acknowledge that SharePoint 2010 is based on .NET Framework version 3.5 and not version 4.0. In VS 2010 when you create a Console/Windows application, Make Sure you select .Net Framework 3.5 in the New Project Dialog Window.If you have missed while creating new Project Go to the Application tab of project properties and verify that .NET Framework Version 3.5 is select as the Target Framework. Now that you have selected the correct framework, will it work? Nope if the application is configured as x86 one it will not work. Sharepoint is a 64 Bit application and when you create a windows application to talk to Sharepoint it should also be a 64 Bit one. Go to Configuration Manager, Select x64. If x64 is not available select <New…> and in the New Solution Platform dialog box select x64 as the new platform copying settings from x86 and checking the Create new project platforms check box. This is not applicable if you are making a console application to talk to sharepoint with Client Object Model.

• "Bootmgr is missing...." Upon reboot [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Install/running ubuntu on extarnal HDD with a windows laptop? Ill take you through the steps I did. Sorry if this question has already been resolved, I'm new to Ubuntu and forums in general. I have 2 internal HDDs in my computer, both with Win7. One HDD is my mothers, the other is mine. I did this because she didn't want my games on her computer, and my PCs motherboard took a crap on me, so I set up a dual boot. I also have an external HDD. This is what I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on. I formatted the drive by right clicking it, then selecting "Format". It is now in NTSF format. I downloaded the Windows installer, ran it, and selected "I:/" (my externl hdd) as the install location. The download and installation ran smoothly, and it gave me the reboot prompt. I selected "Reboot now" and my PC rebooted. I was then interrupted by the "Bootmgr is missing. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL TO REBOOT" message. NOTE: I would like to use my HDD for a FULL Ubuntu installation, not the Live (i think thats what its called). I want all my files and settings from Ubuntu saved to the External drive as if it was my only drive. If you need more information just ask. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• What could be causing frequent display freezes?

  I just installed Ubuntu 14.04 two days ago (coming from Win8) and in the two days that I've been using it, my display has frozen four or five times. The mouse won't move but the keyboard does respond so I can use the Ctrl+Alt+Bkspc command to fix it. It seems like it might just be the display freezing because one of the times I was watching a Youtube video and the audio continued playing. I have an Nvidia graphics card with the most recent Nvidia drivers for it enabled. I see that a lot of questions about Ubuntu freezing get marked as a duplicate and pretty much always linked back to a thread about what to do when it freezes. Clearly, I've got that bit figured out already and I did read that thread for further advice. It turns out my laptop uses Nvidia Optimus and I cannot enable only the graphics card through the BIOS. I found out about Nvidia Prime and got it set up using this article. The settings panel which allows you to select the graphics says that 'performance mode' is enabled but when I check which graphics controller is enabled through the terminal, it still says it's using the integrated graphics. I'm not sure if this could be causing the freezes but I guess it's a starting point. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

  The Direct I/O feature has been available for LDoms customers since LDoms2.0. Apart from the latest SR-IOV feature in LDoms2.2, it is worth noting a few enhancements to the Direct I/O feature. These are: Support for Metis-Q and Metis-E cards. These cards are highly requested for support and are worth mentioning because they are the only combo cards containing both FibreChannel and Ethernet in the same card. With this support, a customer can have both SAN storage and network access with just one card and one PCIe slot assigned to a logical domain. This reduces cost and helps when there are less number of slots in a given platform. The following are the part numbers for these cards. • Why does my Canon printer print document pages at ~25% size?

  I'm using a Canon PIXMA MP250, and I'm running 12.04 LTS. The printer's been working fine for the couple of months I've been a Linux user. That is, until today. I just printed a 1-page ODT document from LibreOffice. Instead of filling the sheet, the document occupies only a little less than 25% of the paper, in the top left corner, and the text has also shrunk to something like 5pt. I looked at the paper format settings for the document and printer, which were set to "letter". I changed these to "A4", hoping that would solve the issue. There was no change, however. I tried printing a different document in LibreOffice and got the same result. I tried exporting the original document to PDF and printing it through Document Viewer. Same result. I then printed a web page from Google Chrome. No formatting problems there. In all cases the print preview looks fine.

  I have a Sony VAIO S laptop with the dreaded Optimus and finally managed to get Bumblebee to work fully on Ubuntu 12.04 so that I can utilize both the hardware acceleration of the Intel chipset as well as the Nvidia one via optirun and/or bumble-app-settings. However, the desktop effects don't work. But they should, I vaguely remember that they worked for a while before I had Bumblebee installed. This is what I get with the support test: :~$ /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0". OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ivybridge Mobile OpenGL version string: 1.4 (2.1 Mesa 8.0.2) Not software rendered: yes Not blacklisted: yes GLX fbconfig: yes GLX texture from pixmap: yes GL npot or rect textures: yes GL vertex program: yes GL fragment program: yes GL vertex buffer object: no GL framebuffer object: yes GL version is 1.4+: yes Unity 3D supported: no First of all, I kind of doubt that the chipset doesn't support VBOs (essentially a standard feature in GL). Neither Xorg.0.log nor Xorg.8.log show any particular errors. As for the Nvidia drivers: In order to get them to work, I had to install the 304.22 drivers (older ones wouldn't work). They clobbered libglx.so, so I reinstated the xserver-xorg-core libglx.so in its original place, moved Nvidia's libglx.so to an nvidia-specific folder and specified that folder in the bumblebee.config. That seems to work and shouldn't cause the problem I see here.   Quick one today. Since starting this project, I've been encountering times where Nomad fails to build my app. It would then take repeated attempts at building to then see a build go through successfully. Rob, who works on Nomad at Red Gate, investigated this and it showed that certain parts of the message required to trigger the 'cloud build' were not getting through to the Nomad app, causing the HTTP connection to stall until timeout. After much scratching heads, it turns out that the Kaspersky Internet Security system I have installed on my laptop at home, was being very aggressive and was causing the problem. Perhaps it's trying to protect me from myself? Anyway, we came up with an interim solution why the Nomad guys investigate with Kaspersky by setting Visual Studio to be a trusted application with the Kaspersky settings and setting it to not scan network traffic. Hey presto! This worked and I have not had a single build problem since (other than losing internet connection, or that embarrassing moment when you blame everyone else then realise you've accidentally switched off your wireless on the laptop).
