  • VS 11 with std::future - Is this a bug?

    I recently installed the Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview. While playing with threads and futures, I came around this setup: #include <future> #include <iostream> int foo(unsigned a, unsigned b) { return 5; } int main() { std::future<int> f = std::async(foo, 5, 7); std::cout << f.get(); } So, very simple. But since there are two arguments for "foo", VS 11 doesn't want to compile it. (However, g++ does: http://ideone.com/ANrPj) (The runtime error is no problem: std::future exception on gcc experimental implementation of C++0x) (VS 11 errormessage: http://pastebin.com/F9Xunh2s) I'm a little confused right now, since this error seems extremely obvious to me, even if it is a developer preview. So my questions are: Is this code correct according to the C++11 standard? Is this bug already known/reported?

  • jQuery Ajax works in Firefox, fails in IE when calling Controller action

In Firefox the async request is sent to the action in the controller and everything works fine, but in IE no request is sent to the controller.   • Strategies for Error Handling in .NET Web Services

    I have a fairly substantial library of web services built in .NET that I use as a data model for our company web sites. In most .NET applications I use the Global ASAX file for profiling, logging, and creating bug reports for all exceptions thrown by the application. Global ASAX isn't available for web services so I'm curious as to what other strategies people have come up with to work around this limitation.   • Win32 select/poll/eof/ANYTHING!?!?!

    Using the standard Win32 file I/O API's (CreateFile/ReadFile/etc), I'm trying to wait for a file to become readable, or for an exception to occur on the file. If Windows had any decent POSIX support, I could just do: select(file_count, files_waiting_for_read, NULL, files_waiting_for_excpt, NULL, NULL); And select will return when there's anything interesting on some of the files. Windows doesn't support select or poll. Fine. I figured I could take the file and do something like: while(eof(file_descriptor)) { Sleep(100); } The above loop would exit when more data is available to be read. But nope, Windows doesn't have an equivalent of eof() either! I could possibly call ReadFile() on the file, and determine if it's at the eof that way. But, then I'd have to handle the reading at that point in time -- I'm hoping to simply be able to figure out that a file is readable, without actually reading it. What are my options?

When I use it without Try/Catch the pages loads normally, but with error messages. Could I ammeliorate the time of response with Try/Catch?

I have many similar methods in a servlet. And I have many servlets too. If I want to disable cache throughout the application, what should I do?     Hello all, I was wondering what is the better method for Casting objects for C#: MyClassName test = (MyClassName)object; MyClassName test = object as MyClassName; I know already that if you do the first way, you get an exception, and the second way it sets test as null. However, I was wondering why do one over the other? I see the first way a lot, but I like how the second way because then I can check for null... If there isn't a 'better way' of doing it, what are the guidelines for using one way or the other?

    I'm in the process of re-setting up my Django development environment after reinstalling my OS. We use django-photologue with our project, which I installed using easy_install. However, I'm getting a template error on every template that has a photologue photo: TemplateSyntaxError at /newsroom/news/ Caught an exception while rendering: (13, 'Permission denied') One example of the line where the error is located: <img src="{{ photo.get_list_url }}"> I'm totally stumped--I've used photologue for this project on many different platforms and have never had this problem. Google yields nothing. I'm currently using Jolicloud (based on Ubuntu Jaunty). I'm working with a pre-existing database, so all of the photo sizes and everything have already been set up.

    I am using VB.NET 2008 Express Edition to access Serial Port which is a USB to Serial port. Since this is removable, the app user can disconnect it at any time in app. I am getting an unhandled exception when I remove the USB Serial Port. After research, it seems like a known problem in .NET (even in 3.5) I am looking for some solution to get this done.   • Axis error about runtime location

    The error is: Exception occurred while reading or writing file {0}The Axis2 facets cannot be installed since the Axis2 runtime location has not been set. Go to the Web Services preference page and set the Axis2 runtime location under Axis2 Preferences. In the preferences mentioned, the location is set correctly and in fact, it says "Axis2 runtime loaded successfully" after loadign the correct runtime location. So what's going on? Any solutions other than re-installing eclipse or creating a new workspace? I am using Axis2 1.4.1 and eclipse.

    Hello, I am using LINQ-To-Entities in C# and run queries against a SQL Compact Server 3.5 SP2. What I try to achieve is a simple group by with an additional where clause which includes a Count(). var baseIdent="expression"; var found=from o in ObservedElements where o.ObservedRoots.BaseIdent==baseIdent group o by o.ID into grouped where grouped.Count()==1 select new {key=grouped.Key, val=grouped}; foreach(var res in found){ //do something here } This query throws the famous exception "A parameter is not allowed in this location. Ensure that the '@' sign and all other parameters are in a valid location in the SQL statement." When I either omit the where clause OR directly enter the expression "expression" in the query (where o.ObservedRoots.BaseIdent=="expression") everything just works fine. Does anybody know how to solve this? Workaround would also be fine? Thanks in advance, Sebastian

I want to access an already created session. this code errors out because of a null exception. string myFile = HttpContext.Current.Session["UploadedFile"]; this creates a null session variable. System.Web.SessionState.HttpSessionState Session = HttpContext.Current.Session; It looks like I can create a new session variable but not access an already created one. Anyone have any idea what might be giving me problems?

    Am I missing something painfully obvious? Or does just nobody in the world actually use java.util.BitSet? The following test fails: @Test public void testBitSet() throws Exception { BitSet b = new BitSet(); b.set(0, true); b.set(1, false); assertEquals(2, b.length()); } It's really unclear to me why I don't end up with a BitSet of length 2 and the value 10. I peeked at the source for java.util.BitSet, and on casual inspection it seems to fail to make sufficient distinction between a bit that's been set false and a bit that has never been set to any value... (Note that explicitly setting the size of the BitSet in the constructor has no effect, e.g.: BitSet b = new BitSet(2);
