  • ASP.NET TextBox verses input type="text" behavior

    I notice with ASP.NET if the server side control TextBox is used with out autopostback it will not submit (or postback) the form when typed text ends with enter, which is different from the behavior for plain old HTML pages. Fine, I can set autopostback to get the behavior I want after the enter key. However, autopostback will also cause submit (or postback) when the typed text does not end with enter but focus has changed (i.e. with tab or mouse click), which again is different from plain old HTML pages. How can I get an ASP.NET page to behave the same as a plain old HTML page with respect to text input regardless of whether enter key or change of focus occurs?

  • Storing n-grams in database in < n number of tables.

    If I was writing a piece of software that attempted to predict what word a user was going to type next using the two previous words the user had typed, I would create two tables. Like so: == 1-gram table == Token | NextWord | Frequency ------+----------+----------- "I" | "like" | 15 "I" | "hate" | 20 == 2-gram table == Token | NextWord | Frequency ---------+------------+----------- "I like" | "apples" | 8 "I like" | "tomatoes" | 12 "I hate" | "tomatoes" | 20 "I hate" | "apples" | 2 Following this example implimentation the user types "I" and the software, using the above database, predicts that the next word the user is going to type is "hate". If the user does type "hate" then the software will then predict that the next word the user is going to type is "tomatoes". However, this implimentation would require a table for each additional n-gram that I choose to take into account. If I decided that I wanted to take the 5 or 6 preceding words into account when predicting the next word, then I would need 5-6 tables, and an exponentially increase in space per n-gram. What would be the best way to represent this in only one or two tables, that has no upper-limit on the number of n-grams I can support?

In my opinion raw data given, has to be normalized into some form. However a discussion with a friend has led to ask me this question here. To expound more on the question, I would say given a set of functional dependencies for a relation or table, is it guaranteed that the table would atleast be in 1NF if not others

I then have a data set for open positions that contains the requisition number and 3 attributes (job function, job grade and job location). For every employee, i would like the three attributes associated with them compared to the same three attributes of the open positions and have the cooresponding requisition numbers displayed for each employee where there is a match.

  • virtualbox instances dedicated-server with custom dnsmasq

    I have dedicated server where I planned to run virtualbox virtual machines. Since the VMs are managed with vagrant/chef I may end up with many different ones. I thought it would be a great idea to deploy a dnsmasq on the server, which is going to dynamically assign the ip addresses to the VMs. Since each Vagrant/Chef recipe is configured to set the VM's host name I can find/reference the appropriate VM by the host name. Finally, the entire infrastructure is not directly accessible via internet, so the dedicated Server is the OpenVPN host. On the Dedicated Server I don't see the vboxnet0 interface but VirtualBox is installed without GUI. Accessing of virtual boxes via ssh works fine. Did I miss smth? DNSMasq must serve the local VMs only, otherwise there is a chance that local DNSMasq start to serve other server's on the network, what I don't want. Because I don't see vboxnet0 I tend to use no-dhcp-interface=eth0 config option. Are there any thoughts on that despite, the fact that a second NW-card (which is not the case), might start serving DHCP-Requests? How should I config the VM's network interface that I am able to access it via OpenVPN and resolve the hostnames using the DNSMasq. I think it should be the host-only network card. Should I do bridging in the OpenVPN config or is it sufficient to use routing.

    I'm trying to block everyone but 1 IP address from my site on a server running apache & centos. My setup is follows the example below. My server: `http://www.myserver.com/` My .htaccess file <limit GET> order deny,allow deny from all allow from 176.219.192.141 </limit> ErrorDocument 403 http://www.google.com ErrorDocument 404 http://www.google.com When I visit http://www.myserver.com/ from an invalid IP, it gives me a generic 403 error. When I visit http://www.myserver.com/page-does-not-exist/ it redirects me correctly to http://www.google.com but I can't figure out why the 403 error doesn't redirect me too. Anyone have any ideas?

    I have a WCF Service that contains the following method. All the methods in the service are asynchrounous and compile just fine. public async Task<Boolean> ValidateRegistrationAsync(String strUserName) { try { using (YeagerTechEntities DbContext = new YeagerTechEntities()) { DbContext.Configuration.ProxyCreationEnabled = false; DbContext.Database.Connection.Open(); var reg = await DbContext.aspnet_Users.FirstOrDefaultAsync(f => f.UserName == strUserName); if (reg != null) return true; else return false; } } catch (Exception) { throw; } } My client application was set to access the WCF service with the check box for the "Allow generation of asynchronous operations" and it generated the proxy just fine. I am receiving the above subject error when trying to call this WCF service method from my client with the following code. Mind you, I know what the error message means, but this is my first time trying to call an asynchronous task in a WCF service from a client. Task<Boolean> blnMbrShip = db.ValidateRegistrationAsync(FormsAuthentication.Decrypt(cn.Value).Name); What do I need to do to properly call the method so the design time compile error disappears?     I have the following function in C#, that I want to pass a MySQL DataReader value/object. If the value of the object passed is a DBNull I need to handle it and return a Null value of that data type e.g null int. Otherwise I want to convert the returned value like Convert.ToInt32(value) or similar. public static T ConvertFromDB<T>(object value) { return value == DBNull.Value ? default(T) : (T)value; } Can anyone offer any help on this ?
