  I'm using Hibernate 3.2.1.ga, hibernate annotations 3.2.1.ga, and hibernate-jpa-2.0-api. I can't upgrade at this time as I'm working with legacy code. I have this generic method for saving or updating objects ... protected void saveOrUpdate(Object obj) { final Session session = sessionFactory.getCurrentSession(); session.saveOrUpdate(obj); } You can assume that every argument, "obj," will have a member field that is marked with the "@Id" annotation. I would like to change the return type to return an Object that represents the persisted object in the database (meaning if "obj" didn't contain an id before, what is returned is the database object with a populated id. What is the fastest way to do this given my versioning and generic constraints?

The filtering part (in the performFiltering method()) seems to go ok, it fills the FilterResults object just as expected.   I have a timer in my code and the interval is 10s When the timer elapsed, I will do some checking, and it may takes more than 10s for checking and some update jobs. However, if I didn't stop the timer, seems the checking will execute every 10s ...   In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern. • Can you detect if and excel find and replace is active during worksheet_change()?

  Hi I've just crashed excel using amazon spreadsheet to update feed. When doing find and replace [replace all] with 2 cells selected after the first replacement the worksheet_change() function finished with the whole spreadsheet selected. This meant that the replacements took place outside of the original area. Unfortunatly the replcement text included the find text and each replacement re-selected the entire area excel ran until it ran out of space then crashed. Pressing control-break brings up the vba dialog STOP/CONTINUE/DEBUG. DEBUG is greyed out as amazon had protected the sheet. STOP would stop one run but would then continue to crash. CONTINUE would switch back to the current change and continue to crash. Is there any way to detect if a find&replace operation is in action whilst executing excel vba? Regards John

  Hi, I'm dealing with a compromised website, in which hackers injected an htaccess instruction to redirect traffic. I can easily locate .htaccess files that contain the forwarding hack, BUT in cases where the directory already contained an htaccess file, they appended the dangerous instructions, so I cannot just deleted any htaccess file or could harm the site by letting formerly pw-protected directories wide open, or urlrewrite instructions (WordPress) be deleted, etc. I could not find the way to locate files that only contain those 4 lines of redirect hack, could you shed some light ? So far, using find . -type f -exec grep -q targetpiratedomain {} \; -exec echo rm {} \; Thanks !

  Is there a way in PHP5 to only allow a certain class or set of classes to call a particular function? • Hibernate inserting into join table

  I got several entities. Two of them got a many-to-many relation. When I do a bigger operation on these entities it fails with this exception: org.hibernate.exception.ConstraintViolationException: could not insert collection rows: I execute the operation i a @Transactional context. I don't do any explicit flushing i my daos. The flush is triggered by a query. In the queue are 15 elements (all of the same structure). one of them always fails (but it's always a different one (I checked) and always at a different position). • How do I mimic Windows Explorer multi-select/drag-n-drop behavior in a DataGridView?

  I'm trying to mimic the way Windows Explorer handles multiple selection. In a default DataGridView, you can select multiple items using Ctrl-click. But if you release the Ctrl key and then try and drag/drop the selected items, it clears the selected items and only selects the "hit" row. I found the following solution somewhere online. protected override OnMouseDown(MouseEventArgs e) { int hitRowIndex = HitTest(e.X, e.Y).RowIndex; if(!SelectedRows.Contains(Rows[hitRowIndex])) { base.OnMouseDown(); } } However, this causes other side effects. With the CTRL key pressed and mousing down on a selected item, the item remains selected. This makes sense because the mousedown event is bypassed if the row clicked on is selected. From looking at the behavior of Windows Explorer, it looks like the deselection of an item with the CTRL key held is not handled until the MouseUp event. Has anyone tried to do this?

• get data from gridview without querying database

  Hi there I am new at this so please bear with me... I have managed to get the following code to work...so when I click on the "select" link in each row of the gridview, the data is transfered to other label/textbox on the webpage. So far so good, the thing is that everytime I click on select...it goes and checks on the database for the data and there is a delay of a few seconds... I was hoping that the data, since it is already visible on the gridrows, is simply "picked up" and used on other labels/textboxes...without requerying the database. Is this possible ? • Do I really have to call Focus in OnMouseDown of my custom Control?

  I'm implementing a custom control that inherits from Control. I want it to be focusable (it's a kind of list box). In the constructor, I do SetStyle(ControlStyles.Selectable, true); I can now use Tab to navigate to the control. However, when the control receives a mouse click, it does not automatically claim focus. I can work around this, of course: protected override void OnMouseDown(MouseEventArgs e) { Focus(); base.OnMouseDown(e); } But this feels like a kludge that should not be necessary. Is this really the way to go? Or is there some way to tell Control to claim focus automatically when it receives a mouse click?
