• Microphone not working in Windows Virtual PC (on Windows 7)

  I"m using Windows Virtual PC on Windows 7 (host) running Windows XP (as the Guest O/S) I'm trying to get the Microphone working. When I Enable Integration Features: Microphone does not work When I run the Sound Recorder, the record button is disabled. If I look at Sound settings, there are no options for the Mic (it's all disabled "grayed out"). Speakers work Copy & Paste works When I Disable Integration Features: Microphone and speakers work Copy and Paste does not (as expected) Drag'n Drop copying does not work in either situation. What I've Tried Verified that the Windows XP Mode Virtual PC guest also has the same symptoms (Mic doesn't work) and audio out (speakers) do work. I"m going to try (but have little hope) to: -Uninstall and Reinstall the Integration addin for Virtual PC

• Sonicwall SSL VPN: Unable to reconnect once connection drops

  One of my users is having problems with his NetExtender connection. After installing NetExtender from the portal, it connects fine -- ONCE. After that, attempting to reconnect gives Verifying user...authentication fail! and the log on the router shows: [timestamp] | Info | SSLVPN | Auth Failed: No user name in http request (message id: 1079) This seems odd to me because the user name, password and domain are entered on the NetExtender client. After this error occurs, the only way to connect again is to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall NetExtender. He can connect fine to the Sonicwall SSLVPN demo site, and a different user can connect fine to this site from a different PC. Any clues?

  I am new to Linux and trying to set up a server. For this project I need some additional software, but how to install the software I'm interested in is not always obvious. For example, this was my experience with a PHP package called htscanner: There is no installation guide on the website. The website says that the version I used did not have any dependencies, but this is incorrect. "Release 0.8.1: No dependencies registered." There is no configuration guide on the website. After I managed to get it installed it still didn't work. I decided to just uninstall it and find a better solution. Uninstalling isn't straightforward; the best answer I got is to manually look for the files and delete them. What are the basic concepts of installing and uninstalling software on Linux? How is this supposed to work?

• I removed my-freeze.com NetAssistant, but now can't access two websites

  I used "Revo Uninstaller" to uninstall the spyware which left me with a problem using Internet Explorer so then downloaded the free version of "Hijack This" from the website and, not reading the Super User answer correctly, used fix for the general issues it found and saved the log file of the other queries. NetAssistant is completely gone or appears to have - Malwarebytes Malware remover cannot find anything and most Google searches now seem to work correctly. However in removing it I seem to have made an error and now whenever I search for and try to open or try to directly access two sites which I had tried to access via NetAssistant whilst infected IE8 says they cannot be displayed. One of them is Wikipedia and I use both regularly. I am not sure at what point this happened I think it may have been after using Revo Uninstaller and the second section where it looks for references to netassistant (in the registry?). Not sure if this is relevant but I can remember deleting some flags or something relating to Internet Explorer but not sure what. Any suggestions?

• Oracle Internet Directory - Required Schemas already loaded

  After a successful installation of Oracle Internet Directories (OID) I attemped to remove and re-install it with a different configuration. First I ran ./runInstaller.sh -deinstall from the OID middleware directory to uninstall. Then i ran the installer again but it complained on the Specify Schema Database step. Upon connecting to the database, the installer threw: INST-5174: Required schemas are already loaded in the specified database. I connected to the target database and removed the OID schemas I knew of SQL> drop user ODS cascade; SQL> drop user ODSSM cascade; That didn't not work and the error still appears. What steps am I missing? Note: The Database is 11g and it was brand new before installing OID so there is no other data select * from all_users doesn't show any other schemas related to OID from what I can tell, the latest user creation date is OCT 2010

• CheckPoint Endpoint Security VPN client co-existing with Windows VPN

  Hey guys, I work as a consultant for a firm with a Checkpoint firewall. I have downloaded and installed the Checkpoint Endpoint Security VPN client. During the installation, I answered no to any questions pertaining firewall etc. - I just wanted the VPN client itself. However, after the installation, I am no longer able to use any of my pre-existing Windows VPN client connections. It does not matter whether the Checkpoint UI is running or not - shutting down the client does not fix the problem. Uninstalling Checkpoint VPN on the other hand fixes the problem. Does anyone know if it is possible to have both VPN clients work while being installed simultaneously? I don't need them to stay connected simultaneously, just avoiding to install/uninstall the Checkpoint client every time I have to use it is perfectly good. Thanks!

  Possibly related to: SQL Server 2008 Install fails error reading etwcls.mof After manually removing MSSQL 2008 from my system (uninstall failed to remove two instances), I receive the following error when trying to re-install: The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server. This is either because of a semantic error such as an incompatibility with the existing WMI repository or an actual error such as the failure of the WMI server to start. It seems that mofcomp is failing with one of the .mof files, but I'm not sure which, or why. Digging through the connect article gave some indications, but no solution. I've run winmgmt /salvagerepository, which returns "WMI repository is consistent". Currently, I'm unable to install MSSQL 2008. Please help!

• Microsoft Office 2013 Issue

  A few days ago I opened my microsoft office programs and discovered taht they are missing the editing icons at the top, some of them will appear if you scroll over them, but not all. Also, in PowerPoint the slides show in the side window with a red "x" I have tried to uninstall and reinstall office 2013, but I have had no luck. This issue is in every office program (excel, PP, word, access, outlook, etc). I also can't see the text when I type. Its there, I can see it when I print the document, but nothing on the screen. Does anyone have a solution for this issue??

• Cleanup pending installation

  I have an old PC with Windows 2000 that I want to reanimate. Each time I start the PC I see a dialog box "Windows Installer","Installation wird vorbereitet." (Preparing installation). I can cancel that installation and work with that PC. But I don't know what installation was pending. There is a more severe problem: I cannot install or uninstall any other software since I get this hanging dialog again. It lasts forever taking no CPU time. How can I cleanup the pending installations registry to make misexec usable again?

• Windows Explorer is blank

  I am using Windows 7 Utlimate x64. Once a week, or so, when I boot up n the morning and launch Windows Explorer it shows up blank, as the following screen shot show. Clicking on my Computer doesn't load anything. Interestingly, I can go the the Address bar at the top and type in a folder name. This brings up that folder's files and subfolders, but as I drill around the tree of folders on the left only shows the immediate folder and not its siblings. There's no plus icon to expand the folder, etc. My usual "solution" is to reboot, which typically brings everything back to normal, but this is a frustrating remedy. Any idea what's going on and how to fix it? Some Googling turned up this discussion, but the remedy was to uninstall a particular piece of software that I don't have installed (Virtual Clone Drive). • Unable to Turn On Media Streaming in Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7

  I have 2 PC installed with Windows 7 and Media Player 12. I would like to use Play To feature on both PC connected via LAN. Both PC (A and B) run media player in standard user account. I able to turn on media streaming option in PC A (with privilege access prompt) without any problem. However, PC B also prompt privilege access but no response after enter administrator password. Both PC follow same configuration steps. I may use "play to" PC A (in standard user account) from other PC without any problem. But I can't "play to" PC B in standard user account. I can only run media player in administrator account for "play to" to function. I have tried uninstall and reinstall media player via "Programs and Features" in control panel on PC B. However, it doesn't work too. Does anyone has similar experience as me failing to turn on media streaming that running Windows media player in standard user account?

• Trouble installing Lagarith Lossless Codec (Codec Removal?)

  I had been using the Lagarith Lossless Codec with camstudio on Windows XP Pro SP3 for a little while before I switched to Ubuntu. Now I'm back trying to do something on windows and the codec is now missing. I tried to install it via the .exe and even manually with the .inf but it's not being listed by camstudio as installed. I'm wondering if one of the other codecs I installed might have messed with it and yet some of the files are still fine so whatever method the installers use to check for existing files before install is returning positive and not re-installing it. How can I get Lagarith to work again? Maybe I need to know how to uninstall codecs.

  I have an dedicated unmanaged server and added a few IP addresses to it (allocated), and the only information my hosting company has provided is instructions on how to use Plesk to Add IP Addresses. However, one of the first things I did was uninstall Plesk (for numerous reasons). Does anyone know what exactly Plesk does when you "Add IP Address"? Does it just create an alias on the default interface (I currently only have one and the loopback)? I can manage that myself without Plesk, but I was hoping someone might know if there is anything else Plesk does. I also have DHCP Client running (eth0 is static), not sure why my hosting company put that there either, and not sure if they're related.

• SharePoint Upgade Question

  My company will be upgrading our SharePoint 2007 site to SP2010 and I know how to do it. But there is one step in the migration step that I don't. The pre-upgrade checker will give you a list of components/solutions that are referenced in the contentDBs but is not installed on the upgraded sharepoint farm. What do you do if the component is not available for 2010? (I believe the only option is uninstall the component before migration). Even if an upgrade is available for upgraded components won't it have a different GUID and therefore not solve the migration error messages? In other words, isn't it true that "install missing components" advice for 07 components only work if the 07 components works in 2010 (which I think is very few components.). Thanks. Seth

• Linux Ubuntu: Updating the GRUB menu

  So apparently there are 2 versions of Linux on my laptop(I have a dual boot system with Linux and Windows 8 but Linux is the master OS). One of them uses the Kernel version 3.11.0 whose headers + source code are incompatible with my wireless driver. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite with a Realtek RTL8188CE wireless lan.So the newer kernel version is still the first option on the menu and to get to Linux I use the "Previous versions of linux" which is running Kernel version 3.2.0-55. What can I do to update the grub menu so that Linux version with the 3.2.0-55 Kernel appears as the primary option? Do I need to get rid of/uninstall the newer kernel version? How can I do this without screwing up Linux entirely?

  I am trying to install Sql 2008 r2 DEVeloper on Windows 2008 STD. It previously had Sql 2008 Enterprise installed. I first uninstalled SQL 2008. I think uninstall still leaves some crap in registery, and in Program files. Installation fails in the last step of the process - installation, about couple of minutes into it. Can't insert picture for you because serverfault does not allow me to do so. But it basically it: Error message: "Installation failed" I re-installed SQL 2008 Enterprise on this box and we are not going to go to R2 on older servers that previously had SQL 2005 or SQL 2008 on it. Looking at Windows log: Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2\x64\Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.SqlServer_ConfigExtension.dll". • Create a Windows Image for Deployment

  In my company we have 8 laptops that we use to deploy on the field. These machines get assigned to a user for a certain time and run Windows Vista. All the machines are the same model. After the machine is returned, it is company policy to completely format the machine and go back to a predetermined configuration. Right now, what we do is we use the recovery utility in the laptop (we are a small shop so we use the OEM Windows license that the laptops come with) and manually uninstall and change the configuration in order to bring it to our baseline config. I know that there are ways to create an image that gets copied to the hard drive with a specific configuration and with specific software installed (thats what OEMs do right?). I'm looking for a tool or a tutorial or something that explains as simply as possible how to create such an image. Thanks a lot

• HFS for Windows by Paragon BSOD

  Installed HFS for Windows 7 yesterday. Did a reboot. Copied some files from my internal drive to external hfs drive. Did another reboot and rebooted to Mac. Mac worked fine. Then yesterday the battery went dead on my mac and the computer switched off. This morning tried to boot into windows but got a BSOD as soon as I moved my mouse in the login screen. BSOD refeers to an error with service HFSPLUS.SYS Now when I try to boot into mac (pressing alt while restarding) the mac drive isn's shown and I can only boot into Windows 7 Safe Mode. Cannot uninstall HFS for Windows the uninstaller in control panel says: "THE WINDOWS INSTALLER SERVICE COULD NOT BE ACCESSED. THIS CAN OCCUR WHEN WINDOWS INSTALLER IS NOT CORRECTLY INSTALLED". • VirtualBox reinstalling & updating has left me with Too Many Network Adapters. How Do i remove them?

  I have too many network adapters. I have had to reinstall, repair VirtualBox a few times, and I have three NICs in my laptop. I definitely don't need to have 14 bridged networking drivers though, and I cannot uninstall them. I only want to keep the new ones that came with VirtualBox 4.1.20. When I go into the registry there are tons of places with these adapters. I have searched online up to 10 pages of Google, and VirtualBox forums, and no one has mentioned this problem nor explained how to delete these annoying extra network adapters. Please offer some assistance or at least tell me how anybody else has dealt with this. I only need 1 host-only network adapter, 1 bridged networking adapter for each of my network cards. • Notepad++ doesn't launch (notepad++.exe present in the task manager)

  Yesterday Notepad++ was runnable, but today it doesn't. In spite of the notepad++.exe (with its 13 process) presence is the tasks manager, Notepad++ window doesn't launch. I tried to uninstall and re-install the sofware (and the first launch works), notepad.exe is present in C:\Windows and C:\Windows\Sytem32 folders. The last file opened with notepad++ was a xml file which isn't readable by other softwares because of the following error message : The '<' caracter can not be used in a value attribut What can I do please ?
