I tried to run mysql_upgrade to correct the first error, but this command seems to require the server to be started, which is my original problem. Next, it says that the table mysql.host does not exist. I was unable to figure out what this is caused by.

I have multiple servers in WEB cluster (identical configuration for all of them, despite the IP) How do you deploy changes in configs on multile servers? I make the new config, then create config per every server (placing correct IP), and next: upload them on every server, replacing old ones (rsync over ssh) set on every server a job which reloads webserver at the same time (servers use ntp). - this done by issuing commands by script (to save time for logging in) before adding a job for server reload - there's checksum test of the config on the server) - an a notification in case of fail How do you see such method? What should be the "professional way :) ? (I don't say my way doesn't work... it works and saves my time not used for logging on every webserver.) Regards,

My system runs under XP. Another point is that it use to find the addresses in the Outlook Address book and where they wetre not specific enough it would display the matching addresses for selection of the correct one. It no longer does this.

MySQL gzipped Export in PhpMyAdmin has wrong size in Mozilla

That is really strange. I am using PhpMyAdmin 2.11.9.6 on Linux hosting. While I am Exporting databases using "gzipped" compression in Mozilla, I am getting files which have size of uncompressed database, but they seems to be downloading in incredible speed (10 times quicker than is possible using my ISP). So at the end: for database of 10M size I am getting 10M gzip downloaded in miniseconds it has indeed shown 10M size on drive it is corrupted Zip compression is working just fine (I am getting file with cca 1M size with fine content of compressed database) And the weirdest thing: that is happening for Mozilla Firefox (13.0.1) only, Internet Explorer 9 is downloading correct gzipped files... Any hint?

Kubuntu not showing eth0

I just installed Kubuntu 12.04.2 and do not have an internet connection. I also cannot access the Desktop and only have the terminal. When I enter xlcock I get Error: Can't open display:. I believe this is because I do not have the correct drivers and need to download them ... using the internet which I can't access. gmetric data submitted doesn't follow dmax value

I have a custom script that is querying a metric port for an application that I'm running and submitting parsed values to ganglia via gmetric. The script runs every minute, so I submit the data to ganglia using the following gmetric options: /usr/sbin/gmetric -g ec2 -s positive -t uint32 -d 600 -n "$NAME" -v $VALUE -x 60 But for some reason there are still gaps in the graphing data: Is there something in my formatting that is preventing the dmax/ttl of the last metric received from being honored? Is there anyone who does custom metric collection that has run into this problem before that can shed some insight or provide some tips as to how to best correct this?

Stop Time Sync Between Host and Guest - VirtualBox

So I've been googling and I've tried the following commands. I want to stop the virtual machine from having the correct time and just to stick with what time it last recorded. The host operating system is Ubuntu 12.04 and the guest is Windows XP. I've turned time syncing off in XP so it won't do that when I connect to the Internet. However it does appear to take the time from ubuntu and set it as it's own. VBoxManage setextradata XP11 “VBoxInternal/TM/WarpDrivePercentage” 200 vboxmanage setextradata XP11 "VBoxInternal/Devices/VMMDev/0/Config/GetHostTimeDisabled" "1" Both commands haven't work as the time is always set to the exact same as Ubuntu's. I've located the extradata entry in the virtualbox XML file. It states both changes that the commands above are set to make. When I plug an HDMI cable into my MacBook Pro with Retina Display, the resolution of the retina display changes

I had an HDMI cable plugged in for a while that connected to a TV with no power. The retina display randomly flashed blue after a while and then changed to a different resolution (possibly 1080p). I unplugged the HDMI cable and nothing happened. So I restarted the computer to no avail. I was still having issues. So I fiddle with some settings after plugging in the HDMI cable again. Now, the retina display appears fine when no HDMI cable is plugged in, but when there is one plugged in, the resolution changes. I have mirroring turned off (which is what I want). The resolution of the retina display when an HDMI cable is plugged in is 3,360px x 2,100px (according to the size of a screenshot) and the external display is 1,600px is 900px. How can I fix the retina display to show with the correct resolution.

Which ports for IPSEC/LT2P?

I have a firewall/router (not doing NAT). I've googled and seen conflicting answers. It seems UDP 500 is the common one. But the others are confusing. 1701, 4500. And some say I need to also allow gre 50, or 47, or 50 & 51. Ok, which ports are the correct ones for IPSec/L2TP to work in a routed environment without NAT? i.e. I want to use the built in windows client to connect to a VPN behind this router/firewall.

Entity communication: Message queue vs Publish/Subscribe vs Signal/Slots

How do game engine entities communicate? Two use cases: How would entity_A send a take-damage message to entity_B? How would entity_A query entity_B's HP? Here's what I've encountered so far: Message queue entity_A creates a take-damage message and posts it to entity_B's message queue. entity_A creates a query-hp message and posts it to entity_B. entity_B in return creates an response-hp message and posts it to entity_A. Publish/Subscribe entity_B subscribes to take-damage messages (possibly with some preemptive filtering so only relevant message are delivered). entity_A produces take-damage message that references entity_B. entity_A subscribes to update-hp messages (possibly filtered). Every frame entity_B broadcasts update-hp messages. Signal/Slots ??? entity_A connects an update-hp slot to entity_B's update-hp signal. Something better? Do I have a correct understanding of how these communication schemes would tie into a game engine's entity system? How do entities in commercial game engines communicate?

How do I stop video tearing? (Nvidia prop driver, non-compositing window manager)

I have that problem which seemingly afflicts many using the proprietary Nvidia driver: Video tearing: fine horizontal lines (usually near the top of my display) when there is a lot of panning or action in the video. (Note: switching back to the default nouveau driver is not an option, as its seemingly nonexistent power-management drains my battery several times faster) I've tried Totem, Parole, and VLC, and tearing occurs with all of them. The best result has been to use X11 output in VLC, but there is still tearing with relatively moderate action. Hardware: MacBook Air 3,2 -- which has an Nvidia GeForce 320M. There are two common fixes for tearing with Nvidia prop drivers: Turn off compositing, since Nvidia proprietary drivers don't usually play nice with compositing window managers on Linux (Compiz is an exception I'm aware of). But I use an extremely lightweight window manager (Awesome window manager) which is not even capable of compositing (or any cool effects). I also have this problem in Xfce, where I have compositing disabled. Enabling sync to VBlank. To enable this, I set the option in nvidia-settings and then autostart it as nvidia-settings -l with my other autostart programs. This seems to work, because when I run glxgears, I get: $ glxgears Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate. 303 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.500 FPS 300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.992 FPS And when I check the refresh rate using nvidia-settings: $ nvidia-settings -q RefreshRate Attribute 'RefreshRate' (wampum:0.0; display device: DFP-2): 60.00 Hz. All this suggests sync to VBlank is enabled. As I understand it, this is precisely designed to stop tearing, and a lot of people's problem is even getting something like glxgears to output the correct info. I am looking for a way to acomplish the following: Currently users have home drives mapped via AD profile as follow: \\fileserver\users\username However if once a user was able to access \\fileserver\users and view everyones folder, but had no access to them. This is not ideal since we have people saving important stuff to on their drives. How can I restrict users permissions and views only to THEIR home drives? I also saw this solution, but not sure if it would apply to me: ================================================================================ Share level permissions - Everyone full permission and remove all others On the file/folder level set the following: Authenticated users special permissions on the root of the \\server\homeshare\ to Check the boxes next to the following: Traverse folder / execute file List Folder / read data Read attributes Read extended attributes / List item All other boxed leave unchecked and make sure you apply "This Folder Only" Domain Adminsfull rights and apply “this folder, subfolders, and files” This will block the users from accessing other user home directories. When you create the new user and set the home directory it will create the folder for you with the correct permissions.

How to allow simple file sharing on Windows Server 2008R2 through VPN

We are a small, distributed company with a Windows Server 2008R2 installation. I would like to set up a way for our employees to connect securely to this server via VPN and then be able to map a network drive. I have gotten this to work somewhat by installing the Network Policy and Access Services Role on the server and using the default settings. I have also created a network share on the server. The problem is that our connectivity is sporadic (sometimes the service stops listening on the port or simply refuses to authorize correct credentials) and slow. I can always connect through VPN, but mapping is problematic. I would be grateful for the answer on how to accomplish this as well as some guidance on whether I am on the right track. Locale number formatting issue windows 2008

On a project we have multiple servers running windows 2008. The servers are using the Russian locale. We have several programs that use floating point numbers but the fractional part of the number on SOME servers is getting truncated. Through the regional settings each machine has: Locale: Russian Current Location: United States Decimal Symbol: . (period) I've tried distributing the changes through "Copy Settings" and even though the procedure works it seems like the settings aren't actually being propagated. So next I went into the registry. There is a key called "sDecimal" and in all cases on all servers the value in the key is '.' There is no difference that I can find between the servers that DO have correct decimal formatting and DO NOT. Any advice on where I can look for a problem like this?

IIS + PHP + Page with lots of images = Intermittent 403 errors

I am using an up-to-date Server 2008 R2 Datacenter, running IIS 7.5 and PHP 5.3.6/FastCGI On PHP pages with lots of images (60+), some of the images fail to load It is not always the same images-- on each page refresh an image that worked previously may not load, while an image that did not now does Looking at the Net tab in Firebug reveals that the failing image requests are 403 errors All of the images are located on the server in question, and the images directory has the correct permissions I believe this problem is the result of a limit on requests All of my attempts at researching this problem point to maxConnections setting in IIS, yet mine is set at the highest/default of 4294967295 (maxBandwidth too) I am also running a ColdFusion site on the same IIS installation, and it does not suffer from 403's on pages with lots of images I am left thinking that there is another connection limit (in PHP or FastCGI?) overriding the IIS connection limit I don't see anything that looks like a request limit in the php.ini, what am I missing? Any help would be appreciated, thank you

What happens when router has been set to incorrect time?

I have a D-Link router for my home Wi-Fi network. Everyday at least once the internet suddenly goes down. I am simply not able to connect to the Wi-Fi network. If I just restart the router, it starts working. To debug the issue I logged into the admin panel and noticed the time was set to something in 2002. I have set it to the correct time. Will wait to see if that fixes the problem. In the meanwhile I want to know what can go bad when the router has been set to show an incorrect time? What are the kinds of problems expected? My Wi-Fi was working just fine most of the time, but sometimes it lost the connection. Could this be linked to the incorrect time setting?

Intermittent HTTP 401 errors

I am using an Intranet solution which requires basic HTTP login. However, there is an intermittent error which requires me to log in again, and then the server says "Forbidden" whether I give the correct login information or not. To add insult to injury, Safari (and Chrome) seems to show the login dialog for every included resource in the HTML, and it's impossible to cancel this modal dialog sequence, so the whole browser is blocked until I've pressed Esc some 30 odd times. After an hour, I may gain access again, without having really done anything. My questions: What could cause temporal 401 errors? Why do the browsers show the login dialog 30 times per page load (assumedly for every included resource in the HTML from the same domain)?

disappearing emails

I have a few users (about 7 of 400) where their emails are disappearing intermittently on outlook, the emails are however still on OWA in the correct folders. After running the following Shell command in exchange and restarting outlook everything works fine again for about a week. [PS] C:\Windows\system32set-mailboxcalendarsettings [email protected] - AutomateProcessing:autoupdate Then for some odd reason AutoUpdate changes to AutoAccept and the problem starts again. They are all using office 2007 with SP3 but I suspect the problem is on exchange and not on the local machine. any help will be appreciated FrustratedMike

Make download dialog show up for pictures in IIS 6.0

I have a client that is offering picture downloads from their site. They want the user to have to download the picture, rather than having it appear in the browser when the link is clicked. Inserting the text "Right-click to save as" or something similar isn't an option with this client, as everything needs to be done their way. Now, I know I could accomplish this task in PHP or ASP, but I'd rather not have to write an addition to Magento to accomplish this. So is there a way in IIS 6.0 (Server 2003) to send the correct headers for image formats in that it will make a download dialog pop up?

Fail to boot after installation onto ASUS PC 1015PX

My new ASUS 1015PX has the usual Windows on the SDA1 partition - 100Gb, followed by SDA2 - 15Gb - as the recovery partition for Windows, and SDA3 with 183Gb for drive D:\ for windows. ASUS uses SDA4 - 19Mb for it's own use. 11.10 on an USB will load Ubuntu on a try basis and it seems OK, but every time I attempt an install, Ubuntu quickly shuts down and the restart process begins. This repeats endlessly. I've tried 10.04 Netbook Remix but that will not boot at all with the machine reporting - unknown keyword in config file gfxboot vesamenu.c32: not a COM32R image. I've gone through the above about 6 times each with the same results. I have also tried the above with the partitioning unchanged, and using gparted, with SDA3 formatted to ext4, windows D:\ reduced to 8Gb providing a 175Gb unallocated space - all to no avail. Further information: During my attempt to load 11.10, I notice that on the page which offers 3 options of loading, the first in the list includes the statement 'install INSIDE windows...' whereas the on line help shows 'install ALONGSIDE windows...'. (my caps for emphasis) I have double checked that I am using the correct download - not the install within windows option.

Is it reasonable to require passwords when users sign into my application through social media accounts?

I've built an application that requires users to authenticate with one or more social media accounts from either Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn. Edit Once the user has signed in, an 'identity' for them is maintained in the system, to which all content they create is associated. A user can associate one account from each of the supported providers with this identity. I'm concerned about how to protect potential users from connecting the wrong account to their identity in our application. /Edit There are two main scenarios that could happen: User has multiple accounts on one of the three providers, and is not logged into the one s/he desires. User comes to a public or shared computer, in which the previous user left themselves logged into one of the three providers. While I haven't encountered many examples of this myself, I'm considering requiring users to password authenticate with Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn whenever they are signing into our application. Is that a reasonable approach, or are there reasons why many other sites and applications don't challenge users to provide a user name and password when authorizing applications to access their social media accounts? Thanks in advance! Edit A clarification, I'm not intending to store anyone's user name and password. Rather, when a user clicks the button to sign in, with Facebook as an example, I'm considering showing an "Is this you?" type window. The idea is that a user would respond to the challenge by either signing into Facebook on the account fetched from the oauth hash, or would sign into the correct account and the oauth callback would run with the new oauth hash data.

Setting up Amazon Cloudwatch to get an alert when you server is down

I have an instance running on Amazon EC2 that I turned into a webserver. Now I have been looking at cloudwatch, but I do not know if it is the correct tool for the job. Basically I want to get informed when the server is down, for whatever reason. Maybe the server got hacked, or the server shut down for whatever reason, I want to get a notification on that. I have enabled clouwatch, and tried to set up a alert, but I only see things like network in-out or cpu usage, an d metrix. Now I do not know if these will do the trick.
