  • Chess board position numbers in 6-rooted-binary tree?

    - by HH
    The maximum number of adjacent vertices is 6 that corresponds to the number of roots. By the term root, I mean the number of children for each node. If adjacent square is empty, fill it with Z-node. So every square will have 6 nodes. How can you formulate it with binary tree? Is the structure just 6-rooted-binary tree? What is the structure called if nodes change their positions? Suppose partially ordered list where its units store a large randomly expanding board. I want a self-adjusting data structure, where it is easy to calculate distances between nodes. What is its name?

  • In ASP.NET MVC Should A Form Post To Itself Or Another Action?

    - by Sohnee
    Which of these two scenario's is best practice in ASP.NET MVC? 1 Post to self In the view you use using (Html.BeginForm) { ... } And in the controller you have [HttpGet] public ActionResult Edit(int id) [HttpPost] public ActionResult Edit(EditModel model) 2 Post from Edit to Save In the view you use using (Html.BeginForm("Save", "ControllerName")) { And in the controller you have [HttpGet] public ActionResult Edit(int id) [HttpPost] public ActionResult Save(EditModel model) Summary I can see the benefits of each of these, the former gives you a more restful style, with the same address being used in conjunction with the correct HTTP verb (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE and so on). The latter has a URL schema that makes each address very specific. Which is the correct way to do this?

  • Ttstyledtextlabel does not draw properly when text property is assigned multiple times

    - by user210504
    I have A ttstyledtextlabel in my uitableview cell. It has got some web URLs for images which are being rendered. But since images take some time to download i reload the cell after sometime to render the images if they have been downloaded. The problem I am facing is that during subsequent assignment of text if the size of the label changes, happens when images have been successfully loaded the label does not render properly but rather blanks out. But I see the proper label when is scroll and come back to the cell again. Anyone faced this issue or simply when the following line is executed multiple times, the Styled Label goes blank StyledView.text = [TTStyledText textFromXHTML:[self getStyledText] lineBreaks:YES URLs:YES];

  • Animation of UINavigationController's UIToolbar

    - by Michael Waterfall
    When presenting a view controller that has toolbar items, is it possible for the toolbar to slide in with the view controller (i.e. slide in from the right) as opposed to it sliding from the bottom? In the view controller that is being presented, I've got the toolbar being shown within the -viewWillAppear: method, but the toolbar is being slid up from the bottom of the screen as opposed to it looking like it belongs to the view controller. - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [self.navigationController setToolbarHidden:NO animated:YES]; ... }

  • Why does this TableView code work?

    - by nevan
    I made a typo when creating a UITableViewCell with this code: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"CellIdentifier"; UITableViewCell *cell = [self.tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { NSLog(@"Creating cell"); cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStylePlain reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } cell.textLabel.text = @"Hello"; return cell; } The typo is in using UITableViewStylePlain instead of UITableViewCellStyleDefault. The code worked fine, creating new cells. Why?

  • Getting users latest tweet with Django

    - by Hanpan
    I want to create a function which grabs every users latest tweet from a specific group. So, if a user is in the 'authors' group, I want to grab their latest tweet and then finally cache the result for the day so we only do the crazy leg work once. def latest_tweets(self): g = Group.objects.get(name='author') users = [] for u in g.user_set.all(): acc = u.get_profile().twitter_account users.append('http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/'+acc+'.rss') return users Is where I am at so far, but I'm at a complete loose end as to how I parse the RSS to get there latest tweet. Can anyone help me out here? If there is a better way to do this, any suggestions are welcome! I'm sure someone will suggest using django-twitter or other such libraries, but I'd like to do this manually if possible. Cheers

  • iPhone - a question about @property

    - by Roger
    Hi, I am kind of newbie on Objective-C and I was looking at a code, trying to understand a few things, and I come across with this .h file: there was a declaration like that on the @interface section MyVideoClass *contrast_; then below we have @property (nonatomic, retain) MyVideoClass *contrast; @property (nonatomic, retain) FetchClass *fetchMe; The strange part is that the first has an underscrore after the name and the second one, doesn't. The other strange thing is that the guy has a call to these properties like this: FetchClass *fetchOne = [self.fetchMe contrast]; What kind of call is that? This seems pretty insane to me. I simply cannot understand what is going on here, but the code works. pretty insane. Can you guys explain me that? Forgive the stupid question, but I am still learning... thanks

  • Saving a 'Date' using DataMapper on AppEngine+JRuby

    - by Ryan Montgomery
    I have a a model as follows: class Total include DataMapper::Resource property :id, Serial property :amount, Float, :default => 0.00 property :day, Date belongs_to :calendar end I am trying to select a specific Total from the data-store. class Calendar include DataMapper::Resource property :id, Serial property :name, String has n, :totals def get_total_for(date) return Total.first(:day => date, :calendar => self) end end When I call get_total_for(DateTime.now) I receive the following error on the call to the data-store. java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: day: org.jruby.RubyObject is not a supported property type. Is Date not allowed for usage in AppEngine? Is this a DataMapper issue? I have tried changing the name of the :day property to something else (hoping it was just a name conflict) but it doesn't seem to matter. Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • How to calculate the touch location with convertToWorldSpace?

    - by Paul
    i would like to convert the touch location as a world coordinate in my tile game. With this code, i clicked on the right of the screen (so that my character walks in the tiled game, and the background goes slowly to the left) : - (void)ccTouchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { for( UITouch *touch in touches ) { CGPoint location = [touch locationInView: [touch view]]; location = [[CCDirector sharedDirector] convertToGL: location]; CGPoint test = [self convertToWorldSpace:location]; CCLOG(@"test : %.2g", test.x); The test log gives me : 50, 72, 1e+02, 2.6e+02, 4.2e+02, (and then goes down) 3.2e+02, 9.5, -1.9e+02, etc. Does anyone know why? I would like to calculate the "real" coordinate of the touch, so that i know when the character has to keep going (click on the right of its actual position) or if he has to turn and go backwards. (click on the left of its actual position) Thanks for your help

  • Possible to change function name in definition?

    - by Bird Jaguar IV
    I tried several ways to change the function name in the definition, but they failed. >>> def f(): pass >>> f.__name__ 'f' >>> def f(): f.__name__ = 'new name' >>> f.__name__ 'f' >>> def f(): self.__name__ = 'new name' >>> f.__name__ 'f' But I can change the name attribute after defining it. >>> def f(): pass >>> f.__name__ = 'new name' >>> f.__name__ 'new name' Any way to change/set it in the definition (other than using a decorator)?

  • What is a good way to quantify C++ knowledge and skill?

    - by LoudNPossiblyRight
    I have only recently started to study (with the hopes of mastering) C++, one because i have started to love it and two because it's a good career/profession move. At the same time i wish to quantify my knowledge and skill so as to set my self apart from those who just throw C/C++ on their resumes and fish. Is there an open, industry and community recognized way of quantifying ones knowledge and skill in C++? I have looked at Brainbench, MS C++ certificates, and other online certification sites which offer to rate you at $50-$200 per test however there doesn't seem to be a standard on how to rate knowledge and skill. It's one thing for MS or Oracle/Sun to have certifications for their products but C++ is a standard, shouldn't there be a standard way or rating one's knowledge and skill there in? Thanks.

  • What to read as a good quick review and intro into development process methodologies?

    - by Ivan
    Being mostly self-taught freestyle developer and having no experience of working in teams of professionals in serious software companies, having only a very general idea of how the software development is should really be done, I think I've came to a point, when I begin struggling from lack of order in my work. I think I should get acquainted with professional software development technologies to optimize my own productivity and to extend my choice of work by increasing capabilities to work in teams and bigger companies. What should I begin with? Of course I am googling on this subject right now, but maybe hou have some real experience based recommendations to share?

  • In c++ is there any Events/delegates/interfaces/notifications! anything?

    - by Bach
    Say i have these classes ViewA and ViewB In objective C using the delegate pattern I could do @protocol ViewBDelegate{ - (void) doSomething(); } then in ViewB interface: id<ViewBDelegate> delegate; then in ViewA implementation i set the delegate: viewB.delegate = self; and now I can call in doSomething from viewB onto any that unknown type delegate. [delegate doSomething]; "C++ How to Program" has been the worse read an can't find simple examples that demonstrates basic design patterns. What i'm looking for in C++ is: events ActionScript and java either delegates or notifications in Objective C anything that allows class A, Class B and Class C to know that ClassX didSomething()!!! thanks

  • Downsampling the number of entries in a list (without interpolation)

    - by Dave
    I have a Python list with a number of entries, which I need to downsample using either: A maximum number of rows. For example, limiting a list of 1234 entries to 1000. A proportion of the original rows. For example, making the list 1/3 its original length. (I need to be able to do both ways, but only one is used at a time). I believe that for the maximum number of rows I can just calculate the proportion needed and pass that to the proportional downsizer: def downsample_to_max(self, rows, max_rows): return downsample_to_proportion(rows, max_rows / float(len(rows))) ...so I really only need one downsampling function. Any hints, please? EDIT The list contains objects, not numeric values so I do not need to interpolate. Dropping objects is fine.

  • iPhone: How do I override the back button in a Navigation Controller?

    - by Angelo Stracquatanio
    Hello, In my app I have a basic Navigation Controller. For all of my views, except one, the controller works as it should. However, for one view in particular, I would like the 'back' button to not go back to the previous view, but to go to one I set. In particular it is going to go back 2 views and skip over one. After doing some research I found that I can intercept the view when it disappears, so I tried to put in code to have it navigate to the page I would like: - (void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillDisappear:animated]; //i set a flag to know that the back button was pressed if (viewPushed) { viewPushed = NO; } else { // Here, you know that back button was pressed mainMenu *mainViewController = [[mainMenu alloc] initWithNibName:@"mainMenu" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:mainViewController animated:YES]; [mainViewController release]; } } That didn't work, so does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!!

  • Textures loaded with NSOperation are blank

    - by Omega
    So I call this method: -(void)beginExecution { NSOperationQueue *queue = [NSOperationQueue new]; NSInvocationOperation *operation = [[NSInvocationOperation alloc] initWithTarget:self selector:@selector(execute) object:nil]; [queue addOperation:operation]; [operation release]; } Which triggers this: -(void)execute { [[CCSpriteFrameCache sharedSpriteFrameCache]addSpriteFramesWithFile:@"MyTexture.plist"]; loaded = YES; // This tells me whenever loading is done. } However, when I create a sprite and try to use the texture MyTexture.png, the sprite is a blank canvas. Why is that?

  • INSERT SELECT Statement and Rollback SQL

    - by Juan Perez
    Im Working on a creation of a query who uses INSERT SELECT statement using MS SQL Server 2008: INSERT INTO TABLE1 (col1, col2) SELECT col1, col2 FROM TABLE2 Right now the excecution of this query is inside a transaction: Pseudocode: try { begin transaction; query; commit; } catch { rollback; } If TABLE2 has around 40m of rows, at the moment of making the insert on the TABLE1, if there is an error in the middle of the INSERT, will the INSERT SELECT statement make a rollback itself or I need to use a transaction to preserve data integrity? It is necessary to use a transaction? or SQL SERVER it self uses a transaction for this type of sentences.

  • Call to a member function query() on a non-object

    - by Randy Gonzalez
    Ok, this is so weird!!! I am running PHP Version 5.1.6 when I try and run the code below it gives a fatal error of an object that has not been instantiated. As soon as I un-comment this line of code //$cb_db = new cb_db(USER, PASSWORD, NAME, HOST); everything works. Even though I have declared the $cb_db object as global within in the method. Any help would be greatly appreciated. require_once ( ROOT_CB_CLASSES . 'db.php'); $cb_db = new cb_db(USER, PASSWORD, NAME, HOST); class cb_user { protected function find_by_sql( $sql ) { global $cb_db; //$cb_db = new cb_db(USER, PASSWORD, NAME, HOST); $result_set = $cb_db->query( $sql ); $object_array = array(); while( $row = $cb_db->fetch_array( $result_set ) ) { $object_array[] = self::instantiate( $row ); } return $object_array; } }

  • Testing methods called on yielded object

    - by Todd R
    I have the following controller test case: def test_showplain Cleaner.expect(:parse).with(@somecontent) Cleaner.any_instance.stubs(:plainversion).returns(@returnvalue) post :showplain, {:content => @somecontent} end This works fine, except that I want the "stubs(:plainversion)" to be an "expects(:plainversion)". Here's the controller code: def showplain Cleaner.parse(params[:content]) do | cleaner | @output = cleaner.plainversion end end And the Cleaner is simply: class Cleaner ### other code and methods ### def self.parse(@content) cleaner = Cleaner.new(@content) yield cleaner cleaner.close end def plainversion ### operate on @content and return ### end end Again, I can't figure out how to reliably test the "cleaner" that is made available from the "parse" method. Any suggestions?

  • Exposing a "dumbed-down", read-only instance of a Model in GAE

    - by Blixt
    Does anyone know a clever way, in Google App Engine, to return a wrapped Model instance that only exposes a few of the original properties, and does not allow saving the instance back to the datastore? I'm not looking for ways of actually enforcing these rules, obviously it'll still be possible to change the instance by digging through its __dict__ etc. I just want a way to avoid accidental exposure/changing of data. My initial thought was to do this (I want to do this for a public version of a User model): class ReadOnlyUser(db.Model): display_name = db.StringProperty() @classmethod def kind(cls): return 'User' def put(self): raise SomeError() Unfortunately, GAE maps the kind to a class early on, so if I do ReadOnlyUser.get_by_id(1) I will actually get a User instance back, not a ReadOnlyUser instance.
