• EXCEL - Locking a Cell from User input whilst allowing a Linked combobox?

  I have a Protected Worksheet which is a checklist with a series of checkpoints. Each row has Item and Description cells that are locked. Each row has several columns with its contents to be set by a ComboBox and a text input column. Both i have left unlocked. I have Locked the the Item and Description columns and left only the 'Select Unlocked Cells' checked via Sheet Protection. I have one ComboBox on the worksheet that moves around and adjusts its LinkedCell and its Content list using the worksheets SelectionChanged event. When the user selects a cell to bring up the drop down list, the user is able to type into the cell and the Drop Down Box disappears. What is the best way to keep the cell unlocked so it can be selectable(as 'Select Locked Cells" is unchecked) however stop the user from being able to type in the cell and to allow the cells contents to become modifiable only via the ComboBox?

• MySQL, delete and index hint

  I have to delete about 10K rows from a table that has more than 100 million rows based on some criteria. When I execute the query, it takes about 5 minutes. I ran an explain plan (the delete query converted to select * since MySQL does not support explain delete) and found that MySQL uses the wrong index. My question is: is there any way to tell MySQL which index to use during delete? If not, what ca I do? Select to temp table then delete from temp table? Thank you!

• get n records at a time from a temporary table

  I have a temporary table with about 1 million entries. The temporary table stores the result of a larger query. I want to process these records 1000 at a time, for example. What's the best way to set up queries such that I get the first 1000 rows, then the next 1000, etc.? They are not inherently ordered, but the temporary table just has one column with an ID, so I can order it if necessary. I was thinking of creating an extra column with the temporary table to number all the rows, something like: CREATE TEMP TABLE tmptmp AS SELECT ##autonumber somehow##, id FROM .... --complicated query then I can do: SELECT * FROM tmptmp WHERE autonumber>=0 AND autonumber < 1000 etc... how would I actually accomplish this? Or is there a better way? I'm using Python and PostgreSQL.

  Hi All, I have a bit of code that works with a result set called "result" (original I know) but depending on the incoming variable I'd like to fire the specific query depending. I have the below in an if statement but that just makes the "result" recordset gets those nasty red lines and it doesn't work. • Problems getting PowerPoint Combobox to list items correctly

  I am creating a PowerPoint in which I want users to be able to select an item from a list in a combo box. Nothing needs to happen after this, it is just to provide a record, on screen, of their choice. My problem is that I seem to either be able to populate the combo box and users can select an item but the list gets longer each time the combobox is clicked on (i.e each time it is clicked on the list gets duplicated). Or alternatively, I can clear the combo box, then populate it but in this scenario, the users choice also seems to get cleared. Is there a requirement that cursors be declared prior to procedures? What other rules are there for order of declaration in a pl/sql block?   I want to get the sum of several columns from 2 different tables (these tables share the same structure). If I only consider one table, I would write this kind of query: SELECT MONTH_REF, SUM(amount1), SUM(amount2) FROM T_FOO WHERE seller = XXX GROUP BY MONTH_REF; However, I would like to also work with the data from the table T_BAR, and then have a select query that return the following columns: MONTH_REF SUM(T_FOO.amount1) + SUM(T_BAR.amount1) SUM(T_FOO.amount2) + SUM(T_BAR.amount2) everything grouped by the value of MONTH_REF. Note that a record for a given MONTH_REF can be found in one table but not in the other table. In this case, I would like to get the sum of T_FOO.amount1 + 0 (or 0 + T_BAR.amount1). How can I write my SQL query to get this information? For information, my database is Oracle 10g.

  I have a table with a schema of Table(number, ref, ref, varchar2, varchar2,...). How would I insert a row of data into this table? When I do: "insert into table values (1, select ref(p), ref(d), '239 F.3d 1343', '35 USC § 283', ... from plaintiff p, defendant d where p.name='name1' and d.name='name2');" I get a "missing expression" error. If I do: "insert into table 1, select ref(p), ref(d), ... from plaintiff p, defendant where p.name=...;" I get a "missing keyword VALUES" error.

• How to enable an AdventureWorks database in a web application?

  I am developing a C#/SQL ASP.NET web application in VS 2008. I want the users to be able to select an Adventureworks table and then an input file. The user is then able to map columns from the file with the selected table. This app works fine now in VS. But when I Browse in IIS, it doesn't show any of the tables. I think this is because currently Adventureworks connection string is integrated security (Windows authentication). If I want users to be able to select a table, do I have to change connection to SQL Server authentication? And if so, is the only way to do this to reinstall SQL Server? Or can I just reinstall Adventureworks? And if I reinstall SQL Server, do I need to reinstall VS also for this to work? This could be painful...

  Hi folks! I'm trying to use temp tables to speed up my MySQL 4.1.22-standard database and what seems like a simple operation is causing me all kinds of issues. My code is below.... CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE nonDerivativeTransaction_temp (accession_number varchar(30), transactionDateValue date)) TYPE=HEAP; INSERT INTO nonDerivativeTransaction_temp VALUES( SELECT accession_number, transactionDateValue FROM nonDerivativeTransaction WHERE transactionDateValue = "2010-06-15"); SELECT * FROM nonDerivativeTransaction_temp; The original table (nonDerivativeTransaction) has two fields, accession_number (varchar(30)) and transactionDateValue (date). Apparently I am getting an issue with the first two statements but I can't seem to nail down what it is. Any help would be appreciated. Amy D.

• XSLT 2.0 Header Leaks into Transformed XML

When I transform some xml using xslt 2.0, some of the headers from the xslt leaks into the new xml. It doesn't seem to do it in xslt 1.0 (granted the xslt is a little different). • SQL Query takes about 10 - 20 minutes

  I have a select from (nothing to complex) Select * from VIEW This view has about 6000 records and about 40 columns. It comes from a Lotus Notes SQL database. So my ODBC drive is the LotusNotesSQL driver. The query takes about 30 seconds to execute. The company I worked for used EXCEL to run the query and write everything to the worksheet. Since I am assuming it writes everything cell by cell, it used to take up to 30 - 40 minutes to complete. I then used MS access. I made a replica local table on Access to store the data. My first try was INSERT INTO COLUMNS OF LOCAL TABLE FROM (SELECT * FROM VIEW) note that this is pseudocode. This ran successfully, but again took up to 20 - 30 minutes. Then I used VBA to loop through the data and insert it in manually (using an INSERT statement) for each seperate record. This took about 10 - 15 minutes. This has been my best case yet. What i need to do after: After i have the data, I need to filter through it by department. The thing is if I put a where clause in the SQL query (the time jumps from 30 seconds to execute the query, to about 10 minutes + the time to write to local table/excel). I dont know why. MAYBE because the columns are all text columns? If we change some of the columns to integer, would that make it faster in terms of the where clause? I am looking for suggestions on how to approach this. My boss has said we could employ some Java based solution. Will this help? I am not a java person but a c#, and maybe I'll convince them to use c# as well, but i am mainly looking for suggestions on how to cut down the time. I've already cut it down from 40 minutes to 10 minutes, but the want it under 2 minutes. Just to recap: Query takes about 30 seconds to exceute Query takes about 15 - 40 minutes to be used locally in excel/acess Need it under 2 minutes Could use java based solution You may suggest other solutions instead of java.

• How to reflect over T to build an expression tree for a query?

  Hi all, I'm trying to build a generic class to work with entities from EF. This class talks to repositories, but it's this class that creates the expressions sent to the repositories. Anyway, I'm just trying to implement one virtual method that will act as a base for common querying. Specifically, it will accept a an int and it only needs to perform a query over the primary key of the entity in question. I've been screwing around with it and I've built a reflection which may or may not work. I say that because I get a NotSupportedException with a message of LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'System.Object GetValue(System.Object, System.Object[])' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression. So then I tried another approach and it produced the same exception but with the error of The LINQ expression node type 'ArrayIndex' is not supported in LINQ to Entities. I know it's because EF will not parse the expression the way L2S will. Anyway, I'm hopping someone with a bit more experience can point me into the right direction on this.   I'm trying to construct a query in NHibernate to return a list of customers with no orders matching a specific criteria. My Customer object contains a set of Orders: <set name="Orders"> <key column="CustomerID" /> <one-to-many class="Order" /> </set> How do I contruct a query using NHibernate's ICriteria API to get a list of all customers who have no orders? Using native SQL, I am able to represent the query like this: select * from tblCustomers c where not exists (select 1 from tblOrders o where c.ID = o.CustomerID) I have been unable to figure out how to do this using aliases and DetatchedCriteria objects.
